Hosts are very kind and have a lovely family and dog. The dinner was amazing and all free of charge. The host provides a cooking class before dinner each night and then everyone gets to eat the prepared food. Didn’t try breakfast or lunch. Unfortunately the food and kind hosts were the only saving grace for us. The private rooms are in a very bad state. The smell of mold was so strong that we considered moving accommodation. All of our belongings were damp in the mornings and so we’ll have to do an intense laundry session after staying here. Even the money in my purse was damp. There were curly hairs between the bed and wall and the window was so filthy. Paint chipping and ground-in dirt on the floors. And the bathrooms…. Very unclean and often without toilet paper. No soap provided. Scum on the shower hose and cobwebs everywhere. If there is daily maintenance on the bathrooms I would be very surprised. Instead signs on the doors telling guests to clean the floors with the bidet… just really unhygienic practice. I think this place is run by lovely people and they provide great meals and care for their guests. But the hygiene issues are very bad and regularly show up in reviews for this place, they’re just never at the top of the lists for some reason. Can’t speak for the dorms but for the sake of your lung health, don’t book a private room.

Great hostel with a good vibe. Staff is nice and friendly. Rooms and toilets are clean. The pool and the terrace are great common areas. A little fit outside the core of Kandy but easily reachable and in a quiet area. No way of getting local food in the nearby but different options of delivery and a well equipped kitchen for guests.

We liked the peoplw but the room was extremely dirty. The wall was covered in mold and the aircondition smelled very very sour. While sleeping the bedsheet came off and we woke up on a matras full of stains and mold. We felt disgusting… see the pictures.

We really wanted to like the place. The staff is very nice, free cooking class, beautiful view and awesome social area. BUT in our private room all walls were covered in black mould. This is very unhealthy and needs to be renovated. We understand the situation is complicated and the people are running out of money. But this is not recommendable and needs work as soon as possible. Please come to Sir Lanka and help those nice and friendly people out of their pitty!!!!

A place of utmost hospitality. Food is very delicious too. This place is run by very nice people who are not greedy for money. Truly a home away from home. Wish them success.!

Friendly, great service, very attentive and considerate. Accommodated to our personal needs. Walking distance to the town, about 5 min walk, nestled in a quiet green place amoungs birds and nature. Conveniently located near all amenities.

The family and their dog offer a warm welcome . The air conditioned rooms are small and to need some improvements . I wish that there was space for a locker . Pool was great as was the cooking demonstration . People enjoyed themselves . I would like to see an end to the plastic bottles and a smoke free area . I liked the place as did many travellers but there is room for improvement . Which would not be difficult . The worker was very helpful

Privat Rooms are moldy and have a disgusting smell. Free Cookingclass but the food was quite disappointing. Breakfast is ok. We booked through hostelword and the woman at the reception tried to charge us 5000R more. I do not recommend to stay here.

Great stay. Would stay there again if we ever go back to Kandy. Mandju made us feel at home when we arrived. The highlight of the stay was the cooking class and dinner (included in the price, although it felt right to leave a tip). Also loved the morning swim in the pool and the dog DJ! Thank you for everything! Max & Steph

Going in with recomendations from a friend, we have arrived at a lovely accomodating environment, with a local family providing a lovely hostel stay experience. Not only you get a room, but also a breakfast and dinner included for a really good price! They also have a swimming pool and a rooftop workout area. At dinner you can learn how to cook the dishes, with detailed explanation of recipe.

Stayed in a private room which has no issues. Enjoyed a wonderful cooking demonstration and shared the free dinner with the other guests. Swimming pool seemed clean although we didn't use. A great place to stay.

Rooms are very small, there was a disgusting smell in the room, bathrooms are okay but one shower was broken. The included breakfast was everyday the same and it‘s quite far away from the city center.

Good and cheap hostel. You can have a good stay there. Beware, the beds are to short if you are toller than 190cm!

The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the cooking class and dinner are great!! However, cleanliness could be improved, and there was no soap in the bathroom. My private room was quite old, smelled a little bit damp and there was no bedside table, just a bed. But for this cheap price, it’s what you get!

We loved our stay at backpackers hostel in Kandy. The rooms where comfortable and clean. The food was amazing but the star of the show was the staff! Staying at their home stay really made un feel like a part of their family, and getting two home cooked meals along with a free cooking lesson was god send after traveling for a long time. Would recommend this place to anyone and next time I´m in Kandy I´ll stay there for sure. Thank you for having us!

Was welcomed to a very warm and friendly staff. The rooms were basic, decent and comfortable - to the point with the price you pay. However with such a reasonable price you pay for your stay, it includes a wholesome breakfast and even more wholesome dinner. They have cooking classes during dinner every night for the guests. Towards the evening, the balcony cum dinner spot becomes a hot melting pot for all the guests to be social and have a good time. Great vibe, peaceful and they have a cute pool as well.

They have incredibly friendly and smiling staff. Free cooking classes in the evenings will make you feel like you are in the kitchen of a house in Sri Lanka. I can't say the rooms are wonderful, but they are sufficient.

The free dinner class and the food that they prepared for us was really nice. We loved DJ💙🐶. Also happened to meet amazing people from around the world. If you are traveling alone or in a small group of 3 I would recommend you to stay at the dorms instead of the private rooms. In the end, the overall experience was great and the service from the hostel host was one of the stand outs of our stay.

Great hosts and good facilities. The included dinner tastes awesome and creates a great environment to meet other travellers. It is a bit far from the city center though.

Stayed here 2 weeks ago with a couple of friends of mine, only stayed here one night but it was so cheap and an amazing experience. The people were so amazing and lovely. They gave us a cooking lesson and breakfast pretty sure it was included in the price and everything was so amazing. Highly recommend with great vibes.

Absolutely fantastic hostel. The staff really will do anything to make your stay perfect. Gorgeous pool, lovely views and comfortable beds. They include a cookery course every night and breakfast in the morning for no extra charge! Everyone eats their food together and enjoys the lovely view over Kandy.

Great hostel! Clean, well equipped rooms, nice swimming pool. Manjul the owner is super nice, helpful, he took us for a trip to his tea plantation. He also cooks delicious dinners (with free cooking class) that are FOR FREE! Other people working there are also great, always ready to help. Highly recommended place to stay in Kandy!

For a hostel it offers a lot and generally is a great experience. Evening cooking class is a great experience and is a good way to break the ice with the rest of the backpackers. Very kind staff, would recommend

The owner of the place is very nice and helpful. He supports you in anything you need and also offers an including cooking class. He made the stay comfortable. On the other hand cleanliness and tidiness could be improved and the beds are not made for tall people. After 2 weeks travel we can say for the money a good deal.

Not sure if its worth for the amount we paid. Dorms are pretty packed. Meals arent great. general cleanliness and maintenance inadequate. Washrooms are better though. The staff is nice and helpful.

Good value for money, cool cooking class INCLUDED with a very tasty homemead dinner, which makes up for rather simple breakfast. Overall great for the price

If I could, I would give it 10 stars. This hostel has been the best hostel in Sri Lanka by far. Owned by a lovely family this hostel has a lot to offer starting by the pool, a beamer for cinema nights, included breakfast, offered private tours for a reasonable price and ending with the interaction with us backpackers through free cooking classes in the evening. I read some review of people complaining about the cleanliness, this is a hostel and you have to understand that we are in Sri Lanka, although I don't like to say it that way. For this price you get waaaay too much. Can truly recommend more than a few nights here, to enjoy the pool and cooking classes.

Very cozy hostel. Wonderful hosts and amazing Dini, who is very friendly, helpful and always smiling. After restrictions regarding covid a hostel needs some refreshment (it was closed for 2 years) but perfect atmosphere, friendly staff, full breakfast, cooking experience lessons, tasty vegetarian dinner, nice pool, lots of funny monkeys, interesting and friendly guests from many different countries around compensate all. Recommend to everybody and would like to come back again! Thank you for unforgettable experience and the warmth you gave!

This place was amazing! The owners are super friendly helpful and relaxed. There is a communal dinner every night and they give you a cooking lesson all included!!! This was the best Sri-Lankan meal I have had so far. Absolutely amazing value for money and even better vibes. This place is a must. It has a pool, a top roof area to chill and it is clean. Big love for this place ❤️❤️❤️

I want to give 4 or 5 stars, but there were several things I didn't like about the hostel that should be fixed asap. The bed sheets are terrible, they don't stay on the mattress. The bathrooms are very basic and if they spent just a few rupees they could be so much better. The clothes drying area is ok but there's a mess around it. The common area is nice but zero shade. There's another level which has shade but is a mess. Most people seemed to love the free dinner which is a cool idea, but it wasn't for me. The staff are great, very friendly. Breakfast is simple but worked for me (bread and an egg). Location not the best but a 20 min walk into town. Overall, a nice hostel that needs just a little TLC to make it a 4 or 5 star review.
