4* definitely NOT for chicken ghee roast 😜as I have tasted even better in other restaurants. Chicken ghee roast is over hyped dish here. We didn't feel it like awesome or out of the world. It tasted good that's all. Also the cost of one plate chicken ghee roast gave me slight heart attack(650rs) 🙄I mean, I don't know what to say..its left to you guys!! We had ordered Chicken ghee roast- 3* Anjal fish masala fry - 4.5* Banjara chicken - 5* Butter nan - 4* Chicken Tikka masala - 4* Quantity is good here, you will have enough left over dishes for parcel as well 😜 Not to forget, hospitality is great. Like staffs are very courtesious. Hygine is maintained very well in the serving area. Not sure about the washrooms. One big issue here is NO parking space available. You need to park road side and it's painful as it very narrow road and lot of vehicles would be traveling there. I always wanted to visit this place for the good name that holds in and around udupi/kundapura. It didn't disappoint me in terms of food. But cost is definitely on the higher side. Once visit place if you are in udupi but think before ordering chicken ghee roast 😁

Taste was good but found it very expensive for the quantity and quality served. Chicken ghee roast costs ₹771 and Mutton ₹815. Earlier ghee roast used to be served with cashews and curry leaves as garnishing, but even that is missing now! Mutton manchow soup costed ₹204 but on menu it's not yet updated. If you're willing to shell out good amount of money for the sake of popularity then you can go ahead, else won't suggest this restaurant.

Visited this place during my stay at Kundapura after hearing that this is one of the most famous restaurants. Was a little doubtful about the ambiance, but the family section is good enough. Ordered a beer and got some nice boiled peanuts to accompany it. Tried the Rava Fried Seer Fish here and it was excellent. And nothing to beat the OG Ghee Roast Chicken here. It was delicious. Its a must visit place if you are travelling around this place.

Does not live up to the hype. My husband and I went mainly to have their famous ghee roast, but I have eaten better ghee roast with more quantity at the same price in Mangalore. It was sweet, instead of tangy or spicy 🧐 We also had Anjal (seer fish) Tawa Fry, which was also okay, not great. The place is also too pricey for the quality - we spent 1450 for just these two dishes plus neer dosa and buttermilk!

True to its name, Shetty Lunch Home serves authentic coastal cuisine. Good place for lunch and dinner. The food quality is good and the ambiance is also great, well done interiors . Price is bit high and they take much time(around 20-25 mins) to serve the orders. Other than that everything else is good.

My 4th visit to this place. As always, the food was awesome. The chicken ghee roast and prawn ghee roast was lip smacking. The taste never changes, and apart from the above recommended dishes we ordered a lot of other sea food such as anjal and crab. All of them were equally good. The place has a good ambience and very prompt service. Chicken ghee roast + a cold beer takes away the tiredness of a long drive to this place. Will recommend a meal here to any foodie who is exploring the Udupi region. Be sure to call an hour in advance to confirm your order of ghee roast as this takes an hour to prepare.

A good friend recommended this place and specifically suggested we call them up and ask for a plate of ‘Chicken Ghee Roast’ to be prepared. Little did we know what this dish would offer! I was totally blown away by the dish and the tender chicken pieces roasted in ghee and the flavourful masala. The AC dining hall has a dark ambience and the restaurant does offer liquor along with food. We loved the food overall and would recommend the place especially for the chicken ghee roast. Parking is a big pain and other than the limited parking space available in front of the restaurant, you’ll have to part the car next to the court building and walk. Pricing is on the higher side - we ended up spending Rs 2400 for a lunch for 4 of us. Please visit this restaurant if Kundapur is in your itinerary or even if you pass by this place (like we did).

Pathetic hotel!! First of all people fall for their ambience and visit the hotel. Believe me that would be the last time as well to visit that hotel again! The food they serve neither have spice nor salt. We bought both non-veg food and veg food. We took 'Chicken ghee roast' as recommended by them. It cost around 800+ rupees and believe me it was the worst chicken ghee roast I ever had! Price of all the items are very high but sadly their food won't worth it👎 Quality as well as the quantity of the food need to be fixed!!! Couldn't take pics of all items, here are some-

Visited the famed Shetty Lunch Home during our visit to Kundapura. The place being famous for sea food and some of the native food items, this place is definitely a heaven for non-vegetarian food lovers. We were able to reserve and got adjoining table for 12 of us. The ambience is good but a bit low lit. Coming to food, we ordered Tandoori Chickn Ghee Roast as well as their Chicken Ghee Roast. While I liked the masala a lot, there was something amiss with the chicken. I liked the tandoori ghee roast better than the normal one. We also ordered Prawns Sukka along with neer dosa; couple of other fish items as well. The place was packed for the Saturday night and hence service was a bit slow but nonetheless can't complain. We also order Masala Papad, Peanut masala, Soups - Chicken Manchow, Sweet Corn and Hot n Sour. The soft beverages are either the soft drinks or lime soda/juice and mocktails weren't available like their Bangalore outlet. They have liquor options as well. Staff behaviour is good and friendly. Parking can be an issue although they have valet options. I found the taste a bit different from their Bangalore outlet. Overall a good to visit place at least once when you're in Kundapura.

For the hype and rates on food... Was definitely not impressed. The ghee roast is just passable, could definitely use a little bite( chicken n mutton) the mutton plate was a bit more of bones then meat .Sea food was fine... pomfret not that fresh, the Kingfisher was nice , prawns were cooked a bit more then required (all tawa fry)

On my recent trip to Kerala, I stopped at the famous Shetty Lunch Home in Kundapura - a place said to be the home of the Ghee Roast Chicken. Was it worth the hype? Taste-wise, I absolutely loved the flavours of the masalas used. It lives up to its reputation of being absolutely delicious and loaded with ghee. With an appam or neer dosa on the side it is addictive! And the amount of ghee they use in a chicken dish would put a gajar-ka-halwa to shame. Surprisingly, the price of a plate of ghee roast chicken is Rs 770 which is double the price of their next most expensive dish. A way to make money off the most popular item, no doubt. The staff are either not trained well enough or don't care enough about making sure guests' questions about the menu are answered. We asked how many pieces of chicken come on a plate and the server told us 4. Since we were 4 people, we ordered 2 plates and ended up with 20 pieces of chicken. If he had to tell us that there were 10 pieces on a plate, we would have tried something different as our second dish. Regardless, I'd go back! The chicken was yum and I really want to try the ghee roast prawns. I bet that would have been good too. Follow @thatgoangirl on Instagram for more food and travel reviews.

This is a hidden gem for sea food/ non vegetarians, located in a corner of Kundapura. They have a huge setup which includes a seperate family room. The service is descent. The food quality and portion size was satisfying. They are famous for their Ghee roast. Liquor is also served here. Prices are slightly on the higher side. Usually crowded. Gotta say, this is one of the finest restaurants in the town. They accept only cash and card payment methods. Parking is in the open. A great eating experience.

Kundapura's Shetty Lunch Home is a seafood lover's paradise!!! Their non-veg options are also fantastic. The Chicken Biriyani and Chicken Ghee roast is absolutely lip smacking and worth dying for, maybe that's the reason for their high pricing.

We had the fish thali with a separate order of Bangude Rawa Fry( Mackerel) which was crispy and delicious. The fish curry on the thali was good, the rice served was boiled /brown rice adds to the positive experience. They give one vegetable /sabzi, a papad with the thali. We also ordered a buttermilk to wash down the meal. The famous chicken ghee roast and the Anjal ( King fish/Surmai) tawa fry was packed for dinner. These items are not cheap. The ghee roast is 700+₹ and costs so because of the use of ghee. The king fish today costed ₹450 , the price depends on the size/catch and changes daily. The ambience is nothing great, clean and functional. Has a separate section for families. Clean washroom area in the family section.

This restaurant is very famous in Kundapura City. Tourists and locals visit here for their unmatchable taste. This place is located at less than 100mts from Kundapura City Bus stand. It is located on a narrow lane road ( old road inside the city) and City and Express buses travel through this. Parking is what you need to worry here, few cars can be parked in the opposite lane or before the restaurant. "GHEE ROAST" here is the best, bestestttt. It's must try. If you like ghee, then you can eat all alone, else with Neerdose ( thelidosi ) or Parota it goes well, you'll love it! For the taste, quantity and quality the price is worth. But when compared to paying that price for a dish, it is very costly. Biriyani Quantity is less, pricing is more. Similarly for most of the items here. When you're in Kundapura, don't miss to visit this place and try Ghee roast, trust me you won't regret.

I was wanting to go to this place since very long and today I did. This place is a must visit if you want to have the best ghee roast food. Most recommended food- Ghee Roast- Chicken, Mutton, Prawn and Crab Anjal Fry- be it tawa, masala or rawa fry(as I was there only for ghee roast) The restaurant is lil old and the A/C rooms are very dim lighted which make it looks shady (dats why 3/5 in atmosphere) This place serves liquor through out the day and doesn't take payment through UPI its just cash/card payment. Parking 4 wheeler is lil difficult due to narrow roads and limited parking place.

Fantastic seafood, majjige dosa, and chicken ghee roast (the rich flavour reveals more of its complexity with each morsel). Service is prompt and courteous. The ambience is uninspired, but don't let that deter you from savouring their delicacies.

A must visit if you are in South Kanara . The ghee roast items are a specialty here Do pre order in case you are planning a visit so that waiting time is low

Both ac and non ac dining available. Suitable for family and friends. Food was delicious. We ordered kane fish fry, chicken ghee roast and neer dosa. All were delicious. The quantity of chicken ghee roast is massive. 4-5 people can share and eat. One chicken ghee roast will be too much for 2-3 people. Went during weekdays so no waiting. Parking of 4 wheeler is little difficult but some of the staff will help with valet if possible.

Best place to get ghee roast. I usually travel all the way from Goa to eat Shetty's ghee roast. While chicken ghee roast is their signature dish, i am fan of their prawns ghee roast. The service is quick, overall the taste is excellent. Only , i feel the items are slightly over priced and ambience is bar-like. Not really a family restaurant vibe otherwise it's perfect
