Trucker Life! Pulled in to Love's for my 10 hour reset and I saw this shed right across the street. A front yard BBQ joint!! Decided to try it out and did not disappoint. It's good to see something different than the usual same food choices you find in the truck stop. I am a BBQ fan, who isn't? I visited late noon so they were out of BBQ chicken. That's alright - pulled pork, briskets, ribs, sausage will do just as tasty 😋 For $20 you will have leftovers for the next meal. I just bought a BBQ sauce for my truck pantry just in case I will come across a place like this, and today I get to try my sauce. Good dinner and a belly too full.

This place has been a staple for me since 2016 when they opened. Their back story is very cool, and the food is amazing!! Don't let the little shack fool you, you couldn't imagine whats in there. And yes they take credit/debit although you get a slight discount for cash!! TRY THAT GUMBO!!!!! This is a half slab of ribs, and the 2 meat plate. Brisket and Boudin sausage, with a small smoked gumbo, total 37$

Area is super unassuming and the definition of a hole-in-the-wall. Thank god for google maps otherwise I might have missed this gem! Owner was super sweet and quick to complete our order. 25$ for a sampler platter that had insane portions. Comes with baked beans (normally not a fan but these were great! especially with the meat) and potato salad and toast. Definitely restaurant quality and I'm surprised this place isn't already large scale in different states, I would love one in NJ ♡

Outstanding! Any time I stop at the Love's across the street I will be getting a plate. Prepared quickly, good on price. My plate was heavy and couldn't even finish it all. honestly I don't think I've had better, and it's always great supporting a small business. 👌🏼 Update: I went back again several months later, STILL hits the spot! Just as good as the first time.

Did a ten hour break here. I ordered the half slab ($15.00). The meal included potato salad, baked beans, two slices of bread and two small cups of BBQ sauce. They do have drinks available for purchase. I’ll start with the ribs. They were very moist, tender and great smoke flavor. A bit on the salty side but the bark and the moisture blend the salt nicely. The ribs have no dry rub. It’s different from Kansas City BBQ and refreshing to the taste buds. The temperature of the ribs was spot on. Really good portion for half a slab and I felt I got my money’s worth. I alternated between eating a plain rib and then drenching a rib with the BBQ sauce. It was so good! Now the two sides. The baked beans were hot! Temperature wise. I like food when it’s meant to be served hot and baked beans, in my opinion, should always be served this way. The potato salad was cold and seasoned well. It had the right balance of Mayo and a splash of mustard. It also married well with the main choice of meat. Overall the meal was great. The food is fresh and the service was fast. I was the second person in line and didn’t wait long for my order. This little hole in the wall is literally right off the highway across from the truck stop. All I had to do was walk over and place my order. They take plastic as well as cash. I will definitely be back to try your chicken and other meats. Great job and a spot on place to have customers come to you.

Across the street from Loves Travel Stop. If you don't stop here then you are missing out. All prices include tax. I got the 5 meat sampler and it's delicious with large portions. The sauce is on the side. It's a must stop on the food list for me.

I consider myself a BBQ lover and I’ve eaten a fair share in my travels from sauced up to dry rub and all in between. I’m going to attempt to rate this BBQ shack as fairly as possible. They don’t over sauce the meat , service was prompt and friendly. I got the combo plate to taste a little bit of everything. The chicken and the smoked sausage were my favorite. The smoke on the chicken was great and you can tell it was slow cooked by the texture , color and moisture. 9/10 for the chicken. The smoked sausage was not heavily charred but still had smoke flavor 8/10. The ribs were decent , one of them was a little dry , but nothing not edible. 7/10 for the ribs. Brisket and pulled pork was pretty basic for flavor typical stuff 7/10. The sides seem like they could be store bought didn’t really enjoy them much but I don’t go to a BBQ place for sides. The meat was good I would come back again for sure. This place sure beats eating at McDonald’s any day of the week !!!

I’m new to the area and I live about 10 mins away from Mr. D’s my sister has been raving about it since she found out I was going to a diff bbq joint in town.. long story short I’m glad she told me because the other places have nothing on them. The customer service was amazing! The smoked gumbo like nothing I’ve ever tasted im from Louisiana so I know a good gumbo and when I tell u it was worth every mile. I knew when I pulled off the exit that it was going to be good because I could smell it before I could see it! 🥳🥳

Yummy!!! Don’t let the exterior of the small, rustic building stop you from eating at Mr. D’s BBQ. The ribs were delicious and meaty. Potato salad and beans were delicious too. They didn’t have brisket today so hubby got a full order of ribs and he wasn’t disappointed.

God put this place right where it needed to be. I parked my truck as far as I can from the barbecue hut/house/shack. A pretty lady with dreadlocks and a very Texas accent looked like she was waiting for me. She asked if I saw someone who she had prepared her meal for. Lucky for me that person walked off. The meal coincidentally what I would have got off the menu. Ribs, chicken and chopped brisket. It was perfect. Everything was. I was going to walk back over there to get a plate for the road but caught a case of the ITIS. (if you know you know). I will definitely be stopping here every time I pass. It's hard to get a good meal as a truck driver and this is a great MEAL! This was that perfect passed down cook book BBQ. Keep up the great work!

So first the BBQ sauce was a little vinegary for what I normaly go for but was still very good sauce. When I got there it was later in the day and items was out, not there fault it was mine. I got 2 chicken quarters and smoked sausage and both was very delicious. The beans was also super good. Glad i got to stop in and have some of this home smoked food and will be back next time I'm in the area. Super good thank yall so much

This place has become a have to stop for me. With all the prices going nuts anymore, this is a hell of a value. I got a 3 meat platter and a large gumbo for $29. The Gumbo is amazing and is a regular item for me. Sometimes, get two so I can have leftovers tomorrow. Mrs. D is always very polite and welcoming. Amazing little hole in the wall. Highly recommend.

All I can really say is Wow!! This is some amazing BBQ. I got the three meat plate and was super happy with the amount of food I received. I'm not usually a big fan of ribs, but I was in the mood to try them out. And I'm glad I did. They were loaded with flavor, and I really enjoyed them. The potato salad was also very good. I will be back!! 😀

I don’t remember how I learned about this establishment. But I’m glad I did. It’s about 1 1/2 hours from our home. I knew we were going to be in their area soon after learning of them. After reading the reviews I knew we had to go there. Man o man let me tell you. The food was cooked to perfection and delicious. The service was exceptional. When I was at the window to order (over a walkie talkie 🙂) I was so excited that I bumbled my order twice. When I told her of my excitement which was creating my confusion I bumbled the order third time. By the third time she had gotten an idea of what we wanted. She called out what I actually wanted and said “I got you no worries”. Boom boom bam. She hit it right on the nose. *Large Smoked Gumbo *3 meat plate: Ribs, Double Brisket, Baked Beans and Potato Salad *Sample Plate: Brisket, Pulled Pork, Smoked Sausage, 1/4 Chicken, Ribs, Potato Salad and Baked Beans. I apologize for not taking a picture of the food. We took a few bites while it was hot then hit the road. Prices were fair, food was delicious and service was excellent. Highly recommended. Thank you Mr. D’s BBQ

Got the 2 meat plate!!! Ribs were big juicy meaty bones, brisket was great portion, and AMAZING smoke bomb of flavor, both super juicy and yummmm! Potato salad was good. The beans...I need a bucket of the beans! Same goes with the BBQ sauce. Also got the gumbo, flavor was super delish, only thing was that it was much too salty for my tatse You don't want to miss this little road side smoke BBQ joint

Let me just start by saying that I love the idea vehind this place! That being said, I must also say that the meats weren't that bad either. The only downside was that the brisket was chopped and very greasy on my sandwich. The meat combo was delicious!

I was stopping for fuel and a bite to eat at the loves travel center across the street. From the moment I opened my truck door I smelt that delicious Texas barbecue in the air. So after getting my fuel I followed my nose to a tiny little unassuming barbecue shack across the street. Ordered myself a Tumi combo plate with brisket and Boudin. I ended up only paying $17 and had potato salad bread barbecue sauce and baked beans that came with the dish and let me tell you that is some darn darn good barbecue right there. I highly suggest the next time you’re in the area stop by and get this place a shot your nose will lead you right to it. I’m incredibly sorry I didn’t catch your name to whoever was serving me but thank you for such an amazing meal

I bought the 4 meat plate so that I could sample a little bit of everything. I ended up with a lot of everything. This is some of the best smoked sausage ever. The ribs were good and falling off of the bone. The chicken was smoked to perfection. The brisket was ok, not the best but still good. Overall, 8/10 I would definitely go back, but I wouldn't order the sides next time, just the meat. Thanks for a great lunch and dinner.

If there is a heaven for barbecue, then it's here. In all my 40 years on Earth, I've had really good barbecue in many different places. Nothing compares to this. All of the items were absolutely stellar. On top of it, great service. Mrs. D is one phenomenal cook and such a sweet person. It's such a treat to eat here! I'll only eat here for barbecue from now on! Love you guys!!

The Brisket and Pulled Pork were outstanding! The only tragedy was that she was out of ribs when we were passing through. Great little place with fair prices.

Pay no attention to the engine hanging from a tree in the front yard, I just ate some ribs that melted in my mouth and blackened the inside of the box. The gal in the booth was helpful, and very friendly. Not horribly priced as barbecue goes, My arteries clogged just walking up to that place. It will most definitely shorten your life, but some things are worth dying early for. I'll be back for another five years off the end.
