This place has an incredible amount of information and exhibits. They have free tours that guide you through the history of aviation, presidential planes pre-1970, quite a few real planes and many more items. It was not busy when we arrived and it wasn't busy when we left. They have a cafe on site (Valkyrie cafe) and although I didn't eat there, it seemed like a basic place to grab a quick bite. My four year old kids enjoyed it. We will likely be back when they get a bit older. The staff was incredibly nice. Overall a very pleasant experience.

The exhibits are great. I have visited twice before and would come back again to see the exhibits. The parking lot has two electric chargers with four parking spots. The charging is slower than my home charger but is at a decent charging rate of about 30 miles per hour. The food court is expensive. Cost about $50 for one adult and two kids for food and drinks. Most ridiculous is that there is NO water station anywhere in the museum. I understood that water fountains are not safe in this pandemic. However, at least the museum should put water bottle fill stations. Other than staying thirsty, your only option is to visit the cafe and pay $2.75 for a bottle of water. In the cafe, there is NO plastic recycling for the plastic package and the water bottles. As a public institution, the museum should do better on recycling.

I haven't been in 25 years. My wife hasn't been in seven. They got a new wing repainted and readjusted the other wings. This is an amazing museum. Lucky to have it so close to us and I love the dog tags! Souvenir finally a souvenir cool and properly priced. It's a must-go

100% Awesome, probably the only government entity with a 4.9 ⭐ rating out of 23,000 reviews. This place is fantastic, it took me 4 hours and I wasn't able to see everything that I wanted. So much cool history and definitely a sense of pride as an American seeing where we have been and I'm curious what will be in the fifth hangar in the future twenty years from now! They definitely need a F16 and F35

As the largest military aviation museum in the world, I had high expectations when coming here. I ended up leaving with my expectations fulfilled and exceeded. The staff helped me in the beginning by guiding me and showing me a map (which I have included photos of in my review). The museum is organized into eras and battles and a few of them are as follows: Early Years, WWII, Korean War, Southeast Asia War, Cold War, Missile Gallery, Space Gallery, Research and Developmental, and Presidential Gallery. These are all divided and everything is clearly marked. Admission is completely free and the whole museum is temperature controlled in the summer and winter. There are several bathrooms spread throughout the museum. If you were to completely walk through and read everything in this museum, it would take you many days. If you’re not looking too much into details, it can be done in just a couple hours. There is a lot of walking, but everything is wheelchair accessible. The museum is very clean and it is a fascinating place to learn about the history of the United States. There are guided tours available and there is also a gift shop that has many interesting items.

This is such an awesome museum. They have so many airplanes to look at. If you are an airplane enthusiast set aside at least a whole day to spend here. There is so much history in this museum. They also have some simulators you can try out, those cost money. Be warned, the cafe is very expensive. If you can I recommend eating elsewhere. The gift shop is awesome and has all kinds of cool things to get.

I had a limited amount of time to view the display. I was blown away by the size of some of the aircraft. You just don't have a true feel for some of these aerospace vehicles until you're standing right next to it. Service is great. The facility was very clean. I took advantage of their free mobility cart because of an injury. I would not have been able to view much of the displays but I was able to make it through all the buildings without being an excruciating pain which is a win-win for me. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful, well planned museum. Stopped by during a visit of friends in Dayton. Spent a few hours wandering among the exhibits, was very impressed. The first thing is the museum is free. Just like any of the Smithsonian museums in Washington DC. Kind of nice for the military/government to give a piece of something back, especially with all the money that has been dumped into the military in our history. Not making a dig on the military as my wife and I are both retired Air Force, just nice to see something that the public can access and that doesn't cost anything to do so. The Museum is laid out in in various very large buildings, that if you follow the guide, take you from the very beginnings of aviation to the present day, with specific buildings/layouts for Early Years, World War II, Korean War, Cold War, etc. You can wander among the exhibits or stop and read all the information until your heart is content. Along the way there are many other "side" exhibits such as the collection of WW II aviators jackets, or the evolution of USAF flight clothing. They do a very good job of presenting history, and even with a couple young children along, there are lots of interactive station for the kids to keep them interested. Another great area for the kids is the motion simulator area, where they have a couple rides. These do cost, currently $10, but are fun for the kids (as well as some of us older kids). There are a lot of "hands on" displays and cockpits throughout the museum that you can crawl into and feel what it was to sit inside one of these amazing airplanes. There are two food areas, a cafe and a "shop-n-snack" available, as well as a very large gift shop, along with a large theatre where they show a couple different :45-:50 minute shows throughout the day. (These cost $10 at this time) Overall, can't say enough good things about this great museum. Would I go back...absolutely! Would I recommend...most definitely!

I had a great 3 hours in the museum. I wasn't expecting so many air and space craft. It took quite a bit just to walk around. I got an hour tour of hanger 4 from Dennis - and it was AMAZING. Dennis served in the Air Force so he had his own stories but was incredibly knowledgeable about the entire museum and each plane. Just a fantastic experience. A must see!

This is hands down one of my favorite museums. I've been 4-5 times now and love bringing friends and family for their first time. The staff is fantastic and the tours are incredible. You could spend all day here and learn so much. It would be hard to fit everything into one day if you do all the tours. They are free and 100% worth it.

I have loved coming to this museum since I was a child! Now I get to take my own child and pass along the love for this museum. The museum is completely free, which is rare to find these days, and is absolutely huge! You could definitely spend more then a day there if you wanted to but a day visit is also sufficient. Do yourself a favor and check out this amazing museum!

Took my girlfriend here for a surprised trip and we had such a great experience. Since she's a teacher, she enjoyed reading all the history and facts about the planes and about the equipment used in the wars. I love how clean this place was and spread out so it never felt crowded. I recommend spending about 2 days here if you want to get the full experience and read everything. About 1 day if you just want to look at everything. Great gift shop and cafeteria too.

This is one of the finest museums in the USA and it's easy to see why! Need to know: You can carry in bottled water You can not bring weapons You can not carry in outside food The bathrooms are clean and plentiful The seats are plentiful There is more to see than 1 visit will allow They have 2 stamps on the aviation trail The space section does not open until noon on Sunday The food here is pretty good and they have healthy options Kids of all ages will enjoy some aspect Parents - be prepared to walk Mobility scooters available on first come basis The family picture are $30-$35 The virtual simulator ms cost 💲 Free parking Free entrance Gift shop is on par with other gift shops They make personalized "dog tags" a kiddo favorite The air conditioning works All in all this is an exceptional museum, the interactive components and movies provide so much history. You could spend days here just taking it all in. The cell service is blocked on some places so be mindful of you get split up from your party. Fabulous idea for a quick trip from several locations to Dayton!

Incredible place to visit with your friends and family. They have cafe for resting and getting some refreshments, and even lactation pods for mothers with babies. Planes are from the dawn of flying to the space flights. They have mostly US airforce planes, but there are a couple of Russian planes which is great to see. The entrance is FREE of charge, but it would be nice to buy something in gift shop so they could have money to maintain this incredible and huge museum.

This place is huge! They have so many airplanes inside, I was surprised. Loved the way they have arranged all the airplanes so that you can follow step-by-step how the aviation technology developed over time. It’s a good place to visit on a weekend. Would recommend taking kids because it can be inspirational for them. There is no entry fee but they take donations.

FREE and FABULOUS! This is a must-see for any visit to Dayton. You could actually spend days touring the four large hangers filled with planes. They are designed so that you can walk through them chronologically, from the first flight by the Wright Brothers to the modern era. However, you can also just visit one or two hangers depending on how much time you have. You can even tour the inside of some of the planes, including Air Force One used by JFK. Staff are also super knowledgeable!

This is by far the greatest air museum I have been to!! Judging from the other reviews here or any where else, the place totally does not disappoint! You and your family definitely should spend a day and you'll see. It's FREE admission and parking. There's plenty of displays and definitely gives honor to the service men and women of the past and present. I would love to visit again! (When they open the Early Days of flight)

Amazing museum! Hard to believe it's free! There are so many aircraft stuffed in these hangars and yet somehow it doesn't feel cramped. Many vintage and rare birds. You could easily spend days here, so I recommend setting aside at least 3-4 hours to wander around and read all the displays, etc. Electric wheelchairs are available for free if the walking is too much; it is quite a large museum.

Amazing! We spent 4 hours and walked the equivalent of nearly 5 miles. Tons to see! Benches are many and dotted throughout if needed. Loved that some planes you could actually go into especially the Presidential AF 1 planes and cargo plane. We were very disappointed in their Cafe though. High priced for pre-made and kept warm burgers and fries. Very little variety of menu. Our suggestion is pack a lunch and cooler for beverages and eat somewhere in the Memorial garden area in front side of the museum along the parking lot. It has shade and benches and is peacefully beautiful. We will be back and bring the grandsons who will love the simulator rides! If you travel with an RV like we do go to the far right when entering the parking lot then way to the back. Plenty of space when we arrived mid week mid day.

This place this incredible! To begin its 100% free! How can you beat that. Besides that this place is a history bombshell! Tons of history in this place beyond just military. They have stuff dedicated to the beginning of flight. Then they progress through flight throughout history starting with world war I moving to world war II then the Vietnam and korean war and moving to modern flight. The end is space flight and presidential planes. Awesome place. Interactive for kids and more information than you can take in for a single visit. Will have to return.

Awesome place from start to finish! The lady at the beginning who helped show us things on the map that we wanted to see was VERY helpful. This is an incredible place for aviation enthusiasts, people interested in history, little kids amazed by big vehicles, etc. Everyone should try to make it here at least once. Even the bathrooms were good, the facility was clean, and the gift shop had lots of good quality fun things to choose from. We'll definitely be back!

I love that place. If you like history and military, no matter what age you are, you will felt like child in the playground. A huge amount of aircraft - since Wright brothers, through WW1 and WW2 (with real B-52! WOW), cold war till modern times with Reaper drones. You can also experience the space programs like Apollo 15 capsule, Titan rocket or replique of space shuttle. Also you can see a couple of Air Force Ones for different presidencies. You can enjoy the full day there. If you will take your family they will also impressed.

We were here for 3 hours, and it wasn't nearly enough time. We saw maybe a quarter of the displays. You can go on some of the planes. There is so much to see and learn. You can bring in water, but that's it. There are handicap scooters and wheelchairs available inside for free. There was no charge to get in. We didn't look around the grounds at all.

You can get a sweeping view of Air Force and military aviation progress at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the world’s largest and oldest military aviation museum. There are more than 360 aircraft and aerospace vehicles on display, many rare and one-of-a-kind. In addition, you’ll find thousands of historical aviation artifacts. If you love the Air Force, aviation or the military in general, you will want to visit. We have been to several service national museums and this one is one of the best. Highly recommend visiting. Would definitely suggest to plan to visit with 4-5 hours available. Museum admission and parking are free (fee for theater and flight simulators).

Simply incredible, and FREE to enter. So many amazing planes. Probably the only place you can see 2 different SR71 models in the same museum. Some other favorites there were the YF 23, F 117 and the B2. The prototype planes were neat too. It took me about two hours just to look at everything and read maybe 15%. If you are near and have more than 2 hours you need to go

I truly enjoyed my time here. There was so much to see. The museum is enormous. There are plenty of seats and lots of room to roam. It’s a pity that we weren’t allowed to board any of the airplanes because of COVID. A good time was had by all on this America History Adventure. You must bring a bottle of water with you because the water fountains are closed to the public. Admission is free so you can make this a two day event like we did. The staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable and friendly. They enjoy answering all the many questions with a smile. The gift shop is a must see bonus at the end of your visit.

Allow the whole day and be prepared for walking on concrete...made more interactive with technology but with knowledgeable curators for help.Masks required in the building the day we were there.A lot of hidden gems besides the obvious (Memphis Belle...)...like the Half Trak totally restored in the Korean section. Hard enough to find the four 50 caliber guns but the hours and attention to detail to put back into service shape was incredible...maybe the day you visit Air Force One will be doing Touch-And-Gos also!

This place is an absolute incredible attraction. From the minute you walk in the doors and you talk to one of the people that work here I was impressed. The staff and exhibits were all very nice. I would tell anyone that plans on coming here to give yourself 4 hours of time to make sure you can actually see everything. 2 hours is not enough time and you will miss a lot if you don’t give yourself a lot of time. Make a day of it. Highly recommend coming here and will be returning myself in the future.

Almost speechless! After we went through security, we got a map (the place was HUGE! Plan on several hours to maybe all day depending on how much of a history buff you are and how much energy you have!). For those who need, they have wheelchairs and strollers- free. While there are two levels, there is an escalator and an elevator as well as stairs. If you get hungry, they have two decently stocked cafeterias, but bring extra $$$ or eat hearty before you go in! (if we had known that cost beforehand, we may have called ahead to ask about "in/out" allowances...and just eat a mid-day meal out in our car, then go back in for more sights). They have planes to view from the Wright Brothers inventing them and all the wars using them. There's a few Presidential planes and many things to see with space ships and rockets! You'll be amazed! There are some interactive opportunities (see one photo of a VR experience), also being allowed on some of the planes! Don't forget to bring a little extra $ for the gift shop. Nice place, lots of stuff for every age. We really enjoyed this! Wish we could have spent a longer day here! So much to see and do...for FREE!

Lot of history and plenty of planes to see. It's definitely a place for all age groups, especially for those who love history and big planes. The place is huge so I'd encourage you to carry plenty of fluids. The entry into Air Force One was great, although it's not a newer plane. I would plan for a full day visit so you get ample time to see everything. Don't miss the theater show and be sure to check the show timings ahead of visit.

What a fantastic experience. The museum is massive with so much to see. The docent led tours in each gallery were very insightful and helped in understanding each aircraft and their purpose. This museum had it all! Growing up in an Air Force family, born on a base myself, I have always loved anything Air Force. What a breath of fresh air to see all the planes frozen in time for all to see. Some hanging, some grounded…simply remarkable! Scenes set up to lead you into a story of sorts. Even a presidential section including Air Force One. A space shuttle that can be walked into. What is also amazing is that there are pieces of history mixed within. The Berlin Wall, pieces here and there. The Holocaust, a story in history that tells its own tale. I could easily come back again and again and always see something different. Whether it be something I have never noticed before or even just a totally different perspective. If you love the Air Force, aviation or the military in general, you will want to visit.

Wow. So much to see. I am sure we barely touched the surface. There were so many things to hear and read about. The museum is donation based only. There is a simulator you can pay to ride. Undoubtedly one of the best aviation museums in the world. The museum offers an unbelievable amount of pieces in pristine condition and chronological order, covering all historical eras from the early military aircraft to rockets and the mos sofisticated drones. The collection of aircraft is literally endless and one day might not be enough to cover all the different hangars. My favorite one was the famous B17 Memphis Belle which occupies a predominant place in the exhibit and it’s in a perfect state of restoration. Definitely a must if you are an aviation enthusiast or your are in the area looking for a good plan.

This place is huge and has so many planes! It's very informative of all the wars and how the planes came about. I really liked that it had places you could stop and watch a video of people speaking about their experiences. The air force one planes were tight! If you are claustrophobic I do not recommend :D They were setting up for an air force dinner ball and everyone that came looked amazing! Gift shop had a lot of fun things you can purchase.

During my visit to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, I was captivated by the rich history and impressive displays. The museum boasts an extensive collection of aircraft, artifacts, and exhibits that chronicle the evolution of aviation and the U.S. Air Force. From the Wright Brothers' first flight to modern fighter jets, I was able to witness the remarkable progression of aviation technology. One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the various aircraft on display, including iconic planes like the B-17 Flying Fortress, the SR-71 Blackbird, and the Space Shuttle Crew Compartment Trainer. The museum's interactive exhibits and informative displays provided valuable insights into the bravery and innovation of those who have served in the Air Force. Moreover, the museum's commitment to preserving and sharing the stories of veterans and their contributions to national defense was evident throughout my visit. It was a day filled with admiration for the dedication and sacrifice of the men and women who have shaped the U.S. Air Force's legacy. Overall, my trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton was an enlightening and memorable experience. I highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in aviation history and military heritage. What made the visit even better was the fact that entry was free, making it an accessible and enriching experience for all.

The Dayton Air Force Museum is an absolute must-visit for anyone with even a passing interest in aviation, history, or the U.S. Air Force. This museum is a journey through the evolution of aviation and the incredible achievements of the United States Air Force. Upon entering, you're greeted by an array of aircraft, from the early Wright Brothers' creations to the most advanced and iconic fighter jets of today. The collection is impeccably maintained, and the attention to detail in the exhibits is impressive. What sets this museum apart is its commitment to storytelling. The exhibits are not just about hardware; they're about the people, the missions, and the impact of the U.S. Air Force on our world. The personal stories, dioramas, and interactive displays engage visitors of all ages. The fact this place is free is INSANE. It is massive, and has so many incredible aircraft’s, artifacts, and informative plaques. we only spent 2 hours here (only visiting the area and in a bit of a rush) could have easily spent 2+ more.it is so spacious! And packed for the brim with things to see. My husband is a history nerd and loved it all, they have very unique things here. Museum is very well kept and clean, and there is plentiful staff if you have questions.

We had a great visit with an air force veteran. Most of the museum is accessible except for the space shuttle and Air Force One exhibits(the elevator to the upper level of the shuttle was out of order and the Presidential planes feature tight corridors you have to squeeze through). The Museum is well laid out and flows from one era of aviation to the next. Well worth the visit and you could definitely spend more than one day there to absorb everything there is to see.

I love this place. I am an avid lover of planes, and the air force, and since it is about a 100 miles from my city, we usually go here for a day trip. I had high expectations for the biggest air force museum, and it was fulfilled. I saw the exact plane JFK was carried on, and the first ever air force one. Very good place, and also admission is free, except for the simulations and stuff, which they are 5 bucks a head.

Always a great place to wander and learn. Each item reminds us of the many people who went to war in the creation and maintenance of this nation. Military and national history can be told through the stories of these people

I've been going here since I was a kid. My grandparents brought me when I was 3 and I've always had a love of aviation. Literally the largest aircraft collection/museum in the world. I have memories of going here for birthdays, school trips, and just because. They have a nearby restoration area and take great care to cherish the exhibits. There is so much here to learn about and from. Also, there is a great gift shop with gifts and toys for all ages. There are events that they sometimes do with community organizations and guest speakers. There are motion simulators and a theater. Just all around an amazing place to go. It is so easy to spend an entire day here.

Amazing museum with amazing pieces of history in it. Pretty well everything the USAF has ever flown can be found here. It's not like most other museums where they only tell you about that specific type of plane, they tell you about the history of that specific airframe and you really reflect on the fact that the plane you're standing in front of shot down "x" Luftwaffe aircraft, etc. Really an amazing place that you could spend the entire day at and still enjoy. Highly recommend, especially to those interested in aircraft of any type.

to be honest i was scared but i was helped by one of the staff members any way so i went here because i heard it was haunted i am into paranormal stuff so i went to go look at one of the aircraft´s of some thing like that i don´t really know anyway i heard a loud scream (btw it was a mans scream) and i hear a loud bang it seemed like a explosion i was in shock to see what was in front of me a 5ft man crying with an burn mark to the head i see his wife or sister or mom behind him does it really matter i did´t manage to get a pic of the man as soon as i picked up my phone he vanished but i have to say that gave me a real spook and the service was great.

Absolutely amazing place to visit, and very well put together. Seeing planes that fought in all the different wars, and stories told made it a very enjoyable visit and well worth the 10 hour round trip drive I took to see it. Only thing I would like to see added is a second floor walkway to get you closer to items up in the air, and to be able to see the planes from above, like they have at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center Air and Space Museum in Virginia

Love passing the traditional of taking my grandchildren to this museum. Careful of the volunteer supervisor who walks around being the direction police. He pulled us aside when our grandchildren were going in two different directions and we were successfully corralling them to give us a lecture of the one way traffic system in the museum (which until he lectured us was non existent from what we saw). Other than this one person, wer love coming to the museum.

I started going to the National Museum of the USAF in 1973. 80% of the planes sat outside in the weather. Still so interesting, today everything is sitting in the hangers that went from one hanger to four. I'm proud to be an Air Force Veteran. I also grew up an Air Force Brat, so this is a museum of my childhood. Thanks to all the volunteer's for the professionalism.

Plan on at least 2 days to see it all and maybe 3 to read not just about planes, but also about the wars they served in. Finally, visit the missiles. Located 15 miles Outside of Dayton, Ohio is the absolute BEST FREE Museum that I have ever been too. Just now getting able to share, I took over 400 photos and have been editing to narrow it down some...It took Tony and over 5 hrs to tour this self paced amazing exhibit and still can't believe it's free!!! So is the Parking and the WI-FI and there are plenty of staff around to answer questions. Some planes you get to climb into like a huge cargo plane and several Presidential Retired Planes belonging to Pesident Eisenhower and Johnson. There are Missles, Bombs and more. Uniforms and Astronaut suits, medals, awards and more. Plenty of bathrooms mixed around the 4 huge hangers. If in the area definitely go, if not then plan to go. I am happy we found this AMAZING LOCATION!!!

What an incredible place to visit. Still hard to believe that this is free to the public. Came here in 2008, and I believe they have since added a new wing. If you wanted, you could spend 3-4 days in here if you want to read everything. I spent 3.5 hrs which was enough time to enjoy it and not get too burnt out. Arrive early or you'll be walking a long ways in the parking lot. Glad to see so many people enjoying this great place.

Hands down one of my top 3 favorite museums in the country! I couldn’t even believe how massive this place really was, and how much they have to see and experience here! It literally took our family 2 days to truly get through everything, to really soak it in and appreciate it all. From the older planes/equipment, to the newer updated stuff, to the walk-through experiences, and sheer amount of beauty here, it was truly amazing! Everything was sooo well taken care of, clean, and well preserved and it made it a wonderful experience. I really truly recommend everyone go here when in Ohio, and to make sure to give yourself a few hours, as it takes a lot of time! Lastly, don’t forget to get some neat gifts on the way out of the museum… 10/10 experience at the National Museum of the US Air Force!

A nice place to spend your day. Probably should have interest in aviation and space when going. The staff is SUPER here. They have numerous handicapped spaces. They also have free electric vehicles for you to use. Maybe bring a light jacket for some areas. These are huge hangers. Children can experience sitting in cockpits. There are also some simulators there. Definately bring an umbrella stroller for kids. You have alot of ground to cover Bathrooms throughout. Theres a cafe about halfway. Great gift shop at end. I loved being able to board past presidential planes and seeing how they flew. This air museum is in our opinion better than the Smithsonian's. Enjoyable day.

This place has an incredible amount of information and exhibits, they are as follows: Early Years Gallery World War II Gallery Korean War Gallery Southeast Asia War Gallery Cold War Gallery Missile Gallery Space Gallery Research & Development Gallery Global Reach Gallery Presidential Gallery Air Park & Memorial Park They have free tours that guide you through the history of aviation, many of our aircraft and aircraft used by adversaries, many more items US aircraft and the Migs. It was busy with many families; however it’s big enough it never felt as if you were being rushed by a group. They have a cafe on site (Valkyrie cafe) and although I didn't eat there, it seemed like a basic place to grab a quick bite. My wife ,1 year old, 8 year old brother, and I enjoyed the museum . We will be back as we did miss 2 of the exhibits due to time . The staff was incredibly nice. They recommended us to go to the Presidential Gallery when we waited to get into the cockpit of one of the aircraft. Overall a very pleasant experience, will be back and look forward to it!

While in Ohio, I had the opportunity to visit the National Museum of the Airforce. It was a beautiful day for it. It's pretty conveniently located. Free admission and plenty of free parking. You could spend a whole day there as there's so much history and information to take in beyond the incredible views of the aircraft. It was really busy, but there's so much space that it's easy to stroll along at your own pace AND find opportunities to capture full aircraft without anyone else in the picture. You can get incredibly close to the aircraft compared to other measuems. My favorite aircraft were the B2 and F22 Raptor. Visit if you have the opportunity. It's well worth it for the whole family.

Visiting this museum was a truly fascinating experience for me. I had the opportunity to learn a great deal about history, particularly presidential planes. The museum provided an abundance of awesome information on the technology and mechanics of aircraft made in the past and used in various scenarios. It's an inspiring and educational destination, particularly for children and high school students, as it ignites a spark of interest in them. The entry fee for such an extensive exhibition is quite reasonable and offers great value for your money. I recommend planning ahead because this museum is vast, and there is an abundance of captivating exhibits to explore.💯

I have been visiting for 35+ years and it never gets old to see the history and exhibits. A must do for all ages, some things may not appeal to everyone, but you will be bound to find some amazing things to look at and even go through some of the aircrafts. Having grown up going to the Dayton Air Show, this museum brings back those fond memories of the different jets and planes I got to see in action. Another special moment for me was seeing the cutaway view of a GE F110 engine and being able to see the same parts that I machined inside! You can always skip through some of the buildings, if you don't have time to view everything. While you are in the area, visit another local gem, Young's Dairy, for either a good meal and of course some ice cream!

We've been here several times. Simply an amazing experience each time. There's so much to see that it's impossible to cover all the hangers adequately in a single visit. The people that work/volunteer at the museum are so passionate about what they have to share. Some of them have flown on or worked on the aircraft. A must see for anyone wanting to experience our military history up close.

This is a wonderful Ohio attraction to visit. For the ones interested in (US) Military History and Aviation History, it is must-visit museum. You can spend a good few hours in this museum, going over the exhibits in the 4 hangars/buildings. The exhibits cover the start of aviation history from the times of the Wright Brothers, till the present Space Age advances. And the best thing about this - all Free to visit. There are a few paid simulator rides, that lloked interesting, but I did not have the stomach for it, or the patience to queue up 😀. Ample parking spaces on a regular weekend. Highly recommended!

  • 5/5 Laurie P. 8 months ago on Google
I don't know how many days it would take to see everything in this museum. We took several tours to help us because we only had one day. The tour guides were great. They're all volunteers who have experience with planes (veterans, engineers, etc.). One of our tour guides engineered some of the technology in the aircraft he showed us. There are exhibits about everything, such as the origin of flight, the Holocaust, the Doolittle Raid, the Space Shuttle program, and many more. If you get a chance, go to this museum!

  • 5/5 Sam S. 7 months ago on Google
It was an amazing experience! The museum is so huge, and there are so many different aircraft to see! Lots of experimental and hard-to-find aircraft, and from so many different time periods. There is also a large collection of presidential aircraft which you can walk through and a missile collection. An outstanding collection that you could easily spend a few days looking at. Great place for history enthusiasts and aviation nuts. Would highly recommend.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, offers an unforgettable experience for history and aviation lovers. I recently spent an entire day exploring the vast collection, and I can't recommend it enough. Parking: The museum provides ample free parking, making it convenient for visitors. The parking lot is well-maintained and close to the entrance, ensuring a hassle-free start to your day. Experience: The museum's exhibits span a wide range of periods, from the early days of aviation to the present. It's a chronological journey through history that offers a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of air and space technology. The immersive displays and expertly curated exhibits make the past come alive. It's not just about seeing the planes; it's about understanding their significance in various eras. Free Guided Tours: For those seeking a deeper insight, the museum offers free guided tours led by knowledgeable and passionate guides. These tours provide fascinating anecdotes and context, enhancing your understanding of the exhibits. It's a fantastic opportunity to engage with the history and stories behind the aircraft on display. Food Options: Exploring the museum can be a full-day adventure, and you won't go hungry. The cafeteria-style eateries offer a variety of food, from quick snacks to full meals, ensuring you can maintain your energy levels as you explore.

The museum is huge and beautiful, AND it's free! We had a great time seeing all the planes and reading about their history. Very reminiscent of Udvar-Hazy at the Smithsonian - the massive airplane barns are just fantastic. We had a great time stopping in on our way through Dayton! If you don't read every plaque, it's easy to do a quick breeze through, which was great for us because we had limited time. Their gift shop is huge, as well! As a bonus, we got an awesome flyover while just standing in the parking lot. (Video attached!)

Awesome. I'm not an airplane buff, but this place was great. It is much better than I expected. The planes are massive. It is wheelchair accessible. Friendly staff. Admission cost is by donation from $0-whatever you want. Planes, jets, rockets, helicopters, bombs, bombers, history, simulators, multiple former Air Force Ones, the least goes on and on. Suggest you plan to spend a minimum of 4 hours. The museum is spaced out over four (4) airplane hangers. 100% indoor. There is a Cafe upstairs with a small selection of hot food, chips, drinks, pre-made sandwiches. This is basically above the gift shop. There is also a smaller snack shop upstairs near the rockets - much smaller. If you are reading this, you will like it. Go visit.

This place is a wealth of knowledge, especially if you take the guided tours. We went and spent over 5 hours and only skimmed the surface. I think the best thing to do is to go and give your full attention to maybe only one hanger, then go back 3 more times and do that for each of the remaining hangers. Don't forget to watch the IMAX, especially D-Day...I think all of our children should be required to watch a documentary like that...maybe history wouldn't repeat itself!

  • 5/5 Casper K. 6 months ago on Google
Well maintained area and plenty knowledgeable staffs around to assist anything any questions that you might have. If you walk fast you could probably finish it in a day, otherwise might want to come back next day and get to gift shop early if you like buy stuffs as they close a bit earlier than the museum itself. Also have parking for EV too if you wondering

This place is amazing. I spent a few hours wondering around taking in the amazing metal shaping and fabrication these old war birds were built with. I couldn't believe the price of admission is free! Be prepared to spend a few hours walking several miles to try and take it all in. If I'm ever passing through Dayton I'd definitely stop in again. You can't learn everything in just single visit!

  • 5/5 Juice 6 months ago on Google
If you are into aircraft of all types or would like to see what was flown during a particular war time period this is the place for you! I really enjoyed seeing the planes, helicopters and jets that I got to see here. I wish they had a larger display for the Tuskegee Airmen there is only one tiny red tail plane suspended in the air. Being a woman that has served in war time I was glad to see the Women in Combat section it made me very proud. I highly recommend a visit.

Absolutely amazing museum to visit, best of all ITS FREE!!! Been working in aviation as a professional for over 23 years, and have to say some of the best looking birds around. A lot of space to walk around freely, they have some birds outside that you can walk up to and around A10,KC130, Specter gunship, C17. They also have a few 32Kw car chargers that are free

By far one of the best museums I have ever seen. Wether you are into history, the evolution of flight or even space travel. This museum has it covered. Most impressive outside the museum on the right next to the entrance is the WALL OF HONER. Each plaque on the wall tells a unique story. Inside the museum the displays are endless. The entrance to the museum is free of charge, also there are tours Inside the museum which are also free of charge. We have spent about six hours in the museum and still haven't seen everything (it's big). I highly recommend a visit to the museum.

The lady at the entrance said that this is the largest museum of the sort in the world, with 4 large hangars full of aircraft and related items. Each hangar is roughly about 700ft long, and generally one must walk one side of the displays and then walk back the other side. If you do the math, it is a little over one mile of walking. Fortunately, they have electric powered chairs if needed. This does not include the airplanes they have on display outside.

We only had 2 hours until it closed, so we looked as quickly as we could. We will have to go back some day when we can spend more time. Lots of history and science in this place. If you are interested in aircraft, this is the place to visit. We loved being able to walk through many of the airplanes to see the inside! Great place!
