Very beautiful! It’s worth seeing and learning about the history! Our tour guide was very nice and informative. We even got to see an audition for opera so that was really cool to be able to see in the theater itself.

Just amazing. History on every corner you walk, all the decorations, murals and glass work, every blink you notice something new. You just gotta go to experience this, but only guided tours are available so best thing to do is to go there and choose a date and time. Better this way if you want English or Portuguese guides.

The Teatro Colón (Spanish: Columbus Theatre) is the main opera house in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is considered one of the ten best opera houses in the world by National Geographic, and is acoustically considered to be amongst the five best concert venues in the world. The present Colón replaced an original theatre which opened in 1857. Towards the end of the century it became clear that a new theatre was needed and, after a 20-year process, the present theatre opened on 25 May 1908, with Giuseppe Verdi's Aïda. The Teatro Colón was visited by the foremost singers and opera companies of the time, who would sometimes go on to other cities including Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. After this period of huge international success, the theatre's decline became clear and plans were made for massive renovations. After an initial start of works to restore the landmark in 2005, the theatre was closed for refurbishment from October 2006 to May 2010. It re-opened on 24 May 2010, with a programme for the 2010 season. The Colón theater operated in two buildings, the first located in the Plaza de Mayo until 1888 and the second located in front of the Plaza Lavalle, which took 20 years to be built until its inauguration in 1908. This land formerly housed the Park Station, the first railway station of the Argentine Republic as head of the Western Railway of Buenos Aires.

This is an awesome Opera House and Ballet Theatre, ranked among the finest in the world. The great hall has perfect acoustic. The history of how it was built, taking 16 years and under the leadership of 3 architects, was most intriguing. Marbles of specific colours for various parts of the main entrance, stairs, railings, walls, etc., were imported from different countries in Europe. Beautiful painted ceilings and chandeliers helped to showcase the grandeur of the opera house. It is clearly an iconic landmark of Buenos Aires and worth seeing for any visitor to this city.

Amazing to see and an excellent guided tour. Can strongly recommend visiting for the tour, you may want to book online (very easy process) to ensure you get into one of the English tours (if you're an English speaker). The architecture and history of the building was very interesting and it was all very impressive.

My partner speaks Spanish & had Argentina passport so he got the best price tickets for 2. Despite I don’t understand Spanish in this tour, I still enjoy this theater tour guide & its magnificent structure. We also sat inside Box while watching the rehearsal for couple minutes. Definitely highly recommended especially if u love to watch shows & opera.

Absolutely mind-boggling place! The acoustics are truly stunning. I have performed in and attended orchestra concerts all around the world, but my ears have never felt as happy as at Teatro Colón. What an amazing experience!

This place was stunningly beautiful; it's absolutely not to be missed. When we booked tickets, the woman said apologetically that the lights may not be on in the main hall - which was indeed the case, but was even better because we were able to see a bit of a dress rehearsal. I wish our stay in Argentina had been long enough to buy tickets to a performance. A word about the online booking system: when we searched online, it showed no English tours available, but when we stopped by in person, there were still spaces. So if you find yourself in the same position where the website indicates no English tours, go in person to book instead.

Breathtaking. Magnificent. Wonderful. Astonishing. Stunning Incredible. I'm getting out of compliments for this place because it's simply fabulous! The architecture is mind-blowing and the acoustic is pretty awesome. They even have kinda like a bar area where you can order wine, whisky, champagne, beverages and they even sell alfajores and sandwiches. You can also book a table. If you are visiting Buenos Aires then you MUST visit this theatre. Buy your tickets at least one week in advance, the locals are passionate about their culture and the tickets tend to sold out relatively fast, so expect to see this theatre completely full. The whole experience was magical and beautiful, I'm sure you'll love every single second of your time here.

Beautiful theater. I had a guided tour which was very instructive. The price was a bit steep. It was close to 4,000 pesos. They have a price for Argentinian and another for other passport holder. I didn't like that!

The guide tour of theater Colon is fun and highly recommended even if the lights are being tested. We enjoyed the tour so much we came back to attend a ballet. We had parterre center seats. We highly recommend attending a shoe in this beautiful place with a great local Orchestra and fantastic acoustic. It is one of the best things to do in BA.

A wonderful temple of art for all people. The beauty of the building and the wonderful sound create a magical atmosphere of perfection. One can only enjoy being here. The buildings and interior decoration are just as beautiful as it is pleasant to see people who have come here. These people want to join the great classics and I am pleased to be with them. Thank you!

It's a beautiful building with what's claimed to be the best acoustics in the world. The theatre is magnificent. Went on one of the English language tours. Would love to return to see a performance although, we were that we'd need to get tickets possibly months in advance for a show... March is a good time to order per our guide.

Gorgeous place. I ran into a problem booking tickets online using a Visa card but Amex worked, though the exchange rate was much worse. The other option was to buy in person but the lines can be long unless you come before 10 am and the availability for the next couple of days can be very limited.

My group and I took an english guided tour; it was excellent! Our guide was extremely knowledgable, informative, and friendly. She answered even the most niche questions, and it was apparent that she really had a passion for the theater. The theater itself is grandiose and a work of art on its own. The architecture is storied and truly marvelous. This is an absolute must-see location for anyone visting Buenos Aires. In fact, it may be the most important place to visit.

The Teatro Colón (Columbus Theatre) is the main opera house in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is considered one of the ten best opera houses in the world by National Geographic, and is acoustically considered to be amongst the five best concert venues in the world. My favourite part of the Tour has to be sitting in the empty theatre venue.

This is one of the most beautiful opera houses that I’ve been to in the world. I’ve been to about four of the top 10. I would have to say that this is my number one favorite. It has so much art and beauty. The architecture is phenomenal. It is influenced by multiple countries. The stories behind the opera house are wonderful. They have Spanish-speaking tours every 15 minutes. I did the 2 PM English tour. Our tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. This is a must see if you are in Buenos Aires!!! Pictures do not do justice. Absolutely beautiful!

We visited the Teatro Colon 14 years ago and took a tour of the building, which was fabulous. It was about to be restored and there were no shows for a number of years - seven I believe. And so, we waited. We returned in December 2018 and again took the tour (very different, but still fabulous, this time) and we went to a show there. The ballet of Tchaikovsky's 'Nutcracker Suite', which was sublime. Plainish on the outside, it simply splendid on the inside. Take the tour of course, but see a show if you can. Book before you arrive in Argentina if you can, but if not - DO visit the theatre and you will probably be able to book standing room in the gods, which is a great place to admire the interior from - and only costs about $5. Absolutely unforgettable - not to be missed. Really six stars!

I've been there 4 times so far and I love it. It's considered one of the best theaters in the world so is it because I've been at the top for both concert and opera, and the acoustic is just stunning. I go there every time I can. I try not to miss any free concert, I think we should take advantage of that so we'd also be supporting the artists this way.

Not able to enjoy a performance here during our short stay, but we where able to sign up for a walking tour! You can register for a walking (English) tour online, do it in advance, this tour is popular. Tour group is roughly 20 people. Lost a star because multiple tours happen simultaneously, our tour guide was very knowledgeable but very soft spoken, couldn’t hear her at times. The venue and decor is eccentric but it is breathe taking. Wish we could have wandered a bit longer than an hour.

Great venue! I wish we were visiting during their season and I could have seen an opera here. Stop by the venue and get your tour tickets early, they sell out. You receive tickets for a specific time. Then go do something else and come back when it's time for your tour.

(Translated by Google) The first Teatro Colón, designed by Charles Pellegrini, was acquired by Banco de la Nación Argentina after 30 years of service from 1857. This building, which still serves as the Banco de la Nación Argentina Headquarters, closed its doors to the art life on September 13, 1888. Thereupon, the law numbered 2381 was passed in 1888 and it was decided to build the new Teatro Colón. The entrepreneur Angel Ferrari, who won the tender, had the opera designed by architect Francesco Tamburini and the foundation was laid on May 25, 1890. Originally the goal was to open the opera on October 12, 1892, to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America; However, in 1891 Tamburini died. It was replaced by Victor Meano, who also designed the Argentine National Congress Palace. In 1894, construction was halted due to financial difficulties. With the death of Meano in 1904, the government appointed Belgian architect Jules Dormal to finish the project. Dormal changed the theater design a bit, adding French influence. The first lease agreement was signed in 1907. The opening of the hall took place on May 25, 1908, with Giuseppe Verdi's opera Aida, which coincided with Argentina's national holiday, after the main hall was completed, but before parts of the building were completed.

Awesome acoustics, absolutely clear and transparent, regularly ranked amongst the top five worldwide (I still haven't heard better yet). Also a beautifully opulent Bel Epoque theatre with lots of charm. They offer a great YouTube channel with many of their productions harking back to 2016, which is defintely worth checking out, to while away the years whilst we're in lockdown. They are very eager and competent theatre, a very good orchestra, excellent chorus. Very good ballet too and a very good hand at casting soloists of some (international) calibre. Also, an aesthetically astute art direction, lots of taste and all that. Performances are usually on a par with good or very good theatres in Europe. It's generally not difficult to get good seats, dress code is relaxed but elegant (unless it's an opening night). I'd recommend the dress circle, it affords the best views and good legroom.

The best theatre 🎭 in the world. The building is amazing and the acoustic can't be better. One place that you cannot miss. The Opera and Valet options are spectacular. This is a must see without a doubt.

Really just the most beautiful. I am biased since I practically live in this theatre but still, every time I walk onto stage I am overwhelmed by its immense beauty. This place is truly magical.

Wonderful tour of the opera house. Truly a stunning building and a must-do in the city. However, cost of guided tour for only 1 hour was very high especially for non-locals (2000 pesos more than for local residents). As revealed on the tour, this doesn’t seem in line with the cost of the performance tickets, which apparently start from as little as 1-2usd.

The theater overall is beautiful. The tour gives a lot of history to the different parts of the theater and the guide was amazing.

It is just a stunning, unbelievable precious building! It is a must even if you can not attend a show. The tour is worth it and unbelievable amazing to look at and take pictures of. The outside is beautiful but the inside is breath-taking.

Had the guided tour on a Saturday morning. What a beautiful place! I recommend this tour to everyone. Interesting for children and adults to learn about the history of this building.

What a beautiful theatre. I've always wanted to go to a performance and finally was able to do so. It is definitely one of the most beautiful theatres in the world.

Better than the guided visit is to enjoy a play, ballet or music show at the theatre. Get you ticket and blend in the local crowd. We went to a ballet and it was tremendous. The acoustics is perfect. We could hear the musicians turning the pages by the fourth floor.

Had the fortune of catching a Ballet during our visit to Buenos Aires. Such a magnificent piece of history and I was amazed at how much love and care has gone into its preservation. Many younger grand theaters in the world are not in this beautiful of shape.

Wonderful guided visit !! Getting the tickets at the theater took 15 minutes only. 50 minutes with a great guide seeing on of the best acoustic opera house in the world . After..a nice appetizer at the fancy bar..

The guided tour may be your only way to see the grandeur of this stunning theatre up close and personal. The restoration took years to complete and its stunning. If you get a chance to grab even a standing ticket for a show, you should ! The acoustic is sublime.

BEAUTIFUL historic opera house. Amazing architecture wish they were in season when we visited, price of ticket would be well worth the opportunity to hear beautiful music in it's natural setting. English language tour guide was engaging and informative, so happy we bought the tickets ahead of time!

Beautiful theater/opera house dating to 1908 and well preserved and restored. Excellent acoustics and good sight lines. Incredible that it hasn’t been destroyed for a tasteless skyscraper. Kudos to BA. Well worth a visit and the tour. We did the tour and got standing room tickets for Swan Lake, a lovely day!

We loved Teatro Colon! Strongly recommend finding and buying tickets to an Opera if you have the opportunity. The quality of the productions is amazing. It’s an extraordinary theatre that should be experienced!

Impressive! It's worth going even if you are not particularly knowledgeable or even interested in ballet, classical music, or opera. The sheer size, architecture, and sound quality make the Teatro Colón a memorable experience. We had a chance to go to the ballet Caravaggio and could only get tickets for standing pretty much touching the ceiling (termed ironically, I suppose, "Paraíso"), but it was still worth it. Next time we visit, we'll make sure to get tickets ahead of arriving in BA to get the full experience.

I cannot entirely express how proud I am of this site. Amazing in every possible way! I absolutely recommend visiting this place either by taking the guided tour or by attending a performance. I specially recommend it to Argentinian people. I have got the strong feeling that we, natives here, are unaware of this cultural wonder of ours. ♡♡♡Let art move you!☆

My favourite opera in the world! Excellent acoustic. The experience is unique. The Argentinian audience is so grateful after each opera. Last time with Anna Netrebecko, the ovation lasted more than five minutes. You can do the tourists visit. It could be difficult to get tickets, but not impossible. You can try the same day.

Took the guided tour and loved it. The theater is marvelous. I bought the tickets online, and for what I could see it is a good ideia, since they were sold out the Day I went there.

The Colon Theater is one of the most important opera houses of the world. Its rich and prestigious track record and the exceptional acoustic and architectural features of its building place it at the level of theaters such as La Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera, the Vienna State Opera, London's Covent Garden and the Metropolitan NY. Many outstanding performers have graced this stage including Enrico Caruso, Claudia Muzio, Maria Callas, Régine Crespin, Birgit Nilsson, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, dancers such as Vaslav Nijinski, Margot Fonteyn, Maia Plisetskaia, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Barishnikov, and conductors such as Arturo Toscanini, and Herbert von Karajan. In its first headquarters, the Teatro Colón functioned from 1857 to 1888, the year it was closed for the construction of a new room. It was inaugurated on May 25, 1908 with a production of Aida. In its beginnings, the Colón hired for its seasons to foreign companies; from 1925 it had its own stable bodies -Orchestra, Ballet and Choir- and their own production workshops, which allowed the theatre, from the 1930s, to organize their own seasons funded by the budget of the city. Since then, the Teatro Colón has been defined as a theater of season or stagione with the capacity to carry out the entirety of an entire production thanks to the professionalism of their specialized scenographic bodies.

The prestigious opera house of Buenos Aires. It is possible to get a guided tour. This seems to be popular. No operas or other productions were on when I visited in November. My main interest in the opera house was it was the location of the world premiere, in 1911, of Italian composer Pietro Mascagni's 10th performed opera 'Isabeau'. It was part of his successful South American tour.

November 2023 It is the best theatre in the world. Number two is in Viena. You must buy tickets at least six months ahead of time. The price for the best seats is 42 USD as of November 2023. Before you go to the performance, I would strongly recommend the tour. This way, you will appreciate it more. There are separate tours for Spanish and English-speaking people. The tour is about an hour.

I 100% recommend this tour for anybody coming to Buenos Aires. Please please please get the guided for to be able to maximize the experience. The opera house itself is super beautiful, but the guide really made me realize so many things about it, including how the floor, ceilings, hallway, all worked to reverberate sound. It's considered the best opera house in the world. The only shame is, it's so hard to get tickets to see anything!

Breathtakingly beautiful. If you are there to see a show, have a walk around during your interval(s). The art and architectural structures are in perfect harmony. Just wow.
