Exterior architecture is beautiful. Went on the Adelaide Haunted Horizons Ghost Tour tonight, the guide was good she was funny and presented the tour well. Disappointed that I thought the building itself would be bigger. Experiences: Something touched my foot. Something tried to take a friend's walking stick, injured her hand and left a mark on her hand from where the strap was resting. I felt like I was being followed the entire time with this overwhelming feeling of guilt and shame - to the point it made me cry, twice. Other people had a couple of experiences of being touched etc. Would be interested in coming back for a history tour to learn more about the patients.

A great ghost tour experience. Kag and Karen were excellent guides. No ghosts spotted this time, but a creepy and fun experience.

We did a ghost tour of Z ward with Haunted Horizons and even though we didn't see anything and no one got grabbed it was well worth while. As Haunted Horizons says they keep it real with no scare tactics, if things happen it's not because of them, we can highly recommend the tour and will definitely be coming back again and will also be doing the old Adelaide goal tour soon and hopefully we'll see something or someone will get grabbed there. 👻

Spooky tour, full of history and spine tingling stories. Jenna was an excellent guide! I highly recommend the paranormal investigation following the tour. Far better than typical ghost Hunter TV shows, given how much activity happened here in a short period of time.

Loved it! Great tour of the heritage listed building and it's former inhabitants. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and had many fascinating stories to tell of Z ward and other institutions in Adelaide like the botanical gardens. Great Sunday afternoon outing.

Better signage is needed to get to the building. Very interesting tour with great tour guides, Karen and Cag. Many great stories told.

This is a unique space with interesting history and a lot of character. Go on a tour (a history tour not a fictional ghost tour) to learn all about the building, it's clever design, and who was sent there. The story of George Brown, the only person ever to escape from Z Ward, was particularly interesting.

Another great experience. Well presented, laced with hope, expectation and sensory enhancing activities. Thanks for a great evening immersed in the history of Adelaide.

I've been there quite a few times and yes, the place is without doubt HAUNTED. It was not active the last time I went but don't be surprised if you do hear footsteps, voices and see things as well. Adelaide Haunted Horizons also conduct investigations there so if you're looking for a fun night, give them a go.

Did a ghost tour here. It is a very creepy place with a ton of interesting, disturbing and unfortunately some sad history. 10/10 do recommend ghost tours here.

You get sensationalised stories from your guide about how a lady run away after 90 seconds because the place was too creepy, or how 10% of tour participants leave early, you get shown photos of poeples scratches followed by more sensationalised stories of people being attacked or contacted by ghosts. What do you get on the day? Nothing like that. No one left. No one saw ghosts or anything. I'd personally rather get more history of the building and opportunity walk around than be shown laminated A4 pictures of a "totally legitimate scratch a lady received when she walked into this cell"

This was my first experience of ghost hunting in the real world and it was exhilarating, words cannot describe this experience and pale in comparison to the feelings and emotions of the night. We went for the tour and the hunt with tools and equipment devices. I strongly recommend both but if you can't handle the length of the tour just go for the hunt with equipment. The hosts are knowledgeable and have experienced unexplained events in the facility. I personally would like to thank Kag and the girls she was training sorry can't remember their names but I'm sure they wear black and follow the group for more than one reason hahaha. Such a good night to go solo, duo or in a group!!!

My partner and I have just done this tour and it was amazing! Best ghost tour I have ever done, very eerie feelings and stories to hear, partner loved being locked in the cell for 5 minutes and saw some very unexplainable beings! Definitely recommend this tour for anyone who’s not afraid of the dark 😋

Love this place! Gorgeous Building. Full of history. Haunted Horizons do amazing tours and have a lot of knowledge on the history of the building and past prisoners. Have been on both the tour and many investigations. Have had quite nights and some intense nights. Highly recommend both the tours and investigations.

The ghost tour was fabulous. I felt no ghosts tonight but I felt myself having to breathe more deeply then normal when shut in the shower cell, in the dark. Not too scary but very creepy.

We took a tour with haunted horizons and did the extended paranormal investigation. They're great storytellers and the architecture, atmosphere and acoustics of the old Z ward is just the right mix as night closes in. You'll get wrapped up in its hair raising dark history even if you're a sceptic. Later when the instruments start to flicker and speak while you try to communicate with spirits you'll find yourself lured deeper into the investigation dying to find something more.

The z ward itself is a great piece of South Australians history. Although it's quite a small building, it's a shame that there's no original furnishings still there and that some of the cells were being used for storage The actual ghost tour wasnt what we expected, we attended as a group of 4 and unfortunately we all found it a little tedious. FYI Dress Warmly. Our tour was on a pretty cold night and it was freezing in the z ward. Would have loved to hear more history and the day to day runnings of the Z ward. Perhaps learning about some of the crimes that the prisoners had committed, or talking about certain prisoner events that occurred in specific cells/ areas of the Z ward would have been a bit more engaging, as we found it a little repetitive as a lot of the tour focused on talking about ghostly 'happenings' that had occurred on previous ghost tours.

Attended a day tour - was disappointed by the lack of interesting information about the day-to-day operation of the site, the patients/inmates or the psychiatric practices of the day. The tour focussed mainly on the architecture which although interesting became a little monotonous. There was little information to read anywhere so we had to rely on what the guide wished to share with us. Overall, didn’t meet our expectations at all.

Beautiful heritage location with interesting and unique architecture. The past cruelty and absolute lack of scientific knowledge and care for fellow man is still apparent and well preserved within its walls. Visiting on a cold night is recommended to see just how awful it would have been back in the day. Went there for a ghost tour, while the stories were okay, I found them unnecessary against the backdrop of genuine cruel history within the place. It was scary enough with what had actually happened.

Average daytime tour, if you want something historically based with informative guides and a slow paced walk around, the daytime tours are you best chance. Other than that, the nighttime tours are a tad more interesting. Historically speaking, wonderful building with resonating screams of past patients and the walls bleed with images of those once incarcerated here. Worth a tour if youre interetsed in historical healthcare.

Loved the cuisine, ocean views and service was excellent. Our suite was extremely comfortable, and the rubber bedpans a very fun touch, love the group ultimate frisbee games! Overall, an excellent experience for the whole family to enjoy. Would recommend for any events, especially for an extra special birthday for the kids! Our only regret is that we didn't choose this as our wedding anniversary venue; next time!
