I recently visited Bar Turystyczny in Gdansk for breakfast and found the food quite satisfying. The prices were quite reasonable, which was a pleasant surprise. However, I faced a bit of a language barrier as there were no English-speaking staff members available. Overall, it was a decent experience, but knowing some basic Polish phrases would have been helpful.

Great cantine-style place for having a quick lunch when exploring the city center. They have a lot of traditional polish (and not only) dishes for a very low price). Everything is written and spoken in Polish and the queue goes very fast so be prepared for a quick decision on what to order. ;)

My favourite milk bar in poland! Prices are very reasonable. Got the pork schnitzel, rice, pork ribs and sour cabbage with compote. All were amazing! Standouts was definitely the sour cabbage (I got an extra portion thereafter) and the pork schnitzel which was huge. Place was air conditioned and staff were friendly and conversational in basic English. Be wary of long queues during peak hours. Will definitely visit again when I’m back in Gdansk!

Must visit a quick food and cheap in Gdansk. It is a bit challenge to understand every menu since it is only available in Polish. Yet there are some menu photos that you can point out. Food is good and serve warm. It is chill to hangout as well. So many local dine in here.

Ok, this is yet ONE MORE place I've passed by many times, thought nothing of before, and finally been in. It has taken me, I think, ten years (!?) to actually get though the door, but today was the day. Ohh! I have just found my new favourite eatery in Gdańsk city centre. Sorry to my previous favourite, but you raised your prices too much, and now you've been knocked off my top spot! Welcome to you, Bar Turystyczny! Enjoy your reign as my new "Food King" of Gdańsk city centre! If you've never been to a "bar mleczny" (milk bar) before in Poland, then they are a dying breed. This one is a rather nice modern version of the old "classic". It has all the classic Polish dishes that you'd expect at very reasonable prices considering its location and prominence. It isn't a back street place either, and there is even an upstairs part (I didn't see up there). Forget the other overpriced tourist rubbish along the main street of Gdańsk. Come here and get fed! BIG portions too! You won't go home hungry!

Very unpleasant service. I went there with my mom and stood next to her. I could hear when she ordered her meal with no potatoes but she wanted to add a salad on the side. The woman who was serving her had a very unpleasant and rude attitude and claimed that my mom said that she doesn’t want anything on the side so “She got what she wanted. And the bald man is without anything." I do not recommend this place. There is so many good and even great restaurants in Gdansk and this post communist and rude attitude is not what my mom and I deserved as a customers.

Great place to eat up on affordable Polish food. It is not fancy but quick, clean, filling and tasty! The servers do not speak much English but they understand simple descriptions and “point to picture” language. =) Recommended to try if you are around Gdańsk Old Town area for a trip. But you may have to wait a little bit due to the queue.

Excellent milk bar in the old Gdansk town. Big portions, low prices, excellent taste. Full course for ~£10 per person. One disadvantage is a missing English menu but the staff is helpful and friendly with tourists and assist to order in plain English.

This place was manic, and unlike the locals I had no idea what to order. However what I did come away with was both tasty and substantial. Bit of a fight for a seat, but food (pork escalope with mash potatoes, mushroom sauce and sauerkraut) was good value when you work out the menu, or lack thereof.

Great selection, great prices, and huge portions! Staff speak some English and can help you if your Polish is terrible.

Not bad, I've had worse food in similar 'milk bar' places. I wanted to eat proper lunch before my afternoon flight but all other places served breakfasts before noon. The worse part of my meal were potatos, supposed to be mashed but there were huge chunks of potatos inside. Good cucumber soup.

I had an office in the past just a minute walk from this bar restaurant and that time I was quite visitting there. I came back after yearls and nothing has actually changed. Still tasty. Of course prices are higher now and you pay 25% more in similar places outside Old Town. However still it is one of cheapest places in area.

One of the famous Polish Milk bars that serve generous portions of comforting home-cooked style food. The food tasted awesome and was very economical.

We spent 60 zl for 3 meals and dessert. Good place to try local food for cheap price. Just keep in mind that omlet dish is more of a pancake that is enough for 2 people as portion is massive. Cashier understood English. I suggest to use Google lens to translate menu.

Authentic Polish food. Price also very cheap. Recommendation - go with your dishes decided in advance if your polish is not so good, they dont speak much English

Traditional milk bar you take your tray and ask for your veg/ salad then mash then the meat. Really good value for city centre. Food wasn't as good as down in Katowice but the q was out the door. The compote drink was full of fruit and refreshing

Tried the traditional Polish “milk bar” or in America we would call this cafeteria. The meal typically goes with potato and a choice of salad. We opt in for some cabbage and they were cooked nicely. It had a lot of flavor - salty and slightly sour. It really went well with the pork.

Really good home cooking lunch place since 1956. Any dish you pick will be great. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Gdansk! The prices are also really good.

Good, basic restaurant on the cheap. Staff was friendly and food was tasty and abundant. Considering the price, it's a good option.

I stayed in Gdańsk between 17th - 21st November and Bar Turystyczny was an integral part of my trip. The staff are lovely and the food is delicious and very heart-warming. It was a real delight to be able to experience this on my trip, I truly felt like I was in Poland! I was only able to go three times but the staff remembered what I liked to eat by the end of my trip and I wouldn't even have to say anything! Nice atmosphere and humble setting. 10/10. Also - fantastic value too!! Dziękuję bardzo i dobra robota!! :)

I'm polish living in UK for some time now. I visit Gdańsk with my fiancee and wanted to show him tasty polish cuisine. I was not sure about Bar Turystyczny as it is more kind of cantine style restaurant but I couldn't be more wrong. The food was so good, it taste like food from childhood, proper home style and delicious. And ridiculously cheap. My English partner loved the gołąbki ♥ next time in Gdańsk we will visit again

During my short stay at Gdansk, I went this bar mleczny for lunch twice, and they were all great:) I really like stuffed cabbage. Anyway, does anyone know where can I get that pretty orange pendant light in this bar?

Very polish, very authentic, a bit stressful if hou don’t speak the language... but still worth a visit, it was good fun and the food was good, too. Really good scrambled eggs. They have a large selection of traditional dishes and the interior is quite nice. Very budget-friendly.

👍👍 During an epic roadtrip in the Baltic we found ourselves in Gdansk needing a beer. We popped into Billy's while walking and enjoyed a burger and ribs. Good service and good atmosphere with a nice view of the river.
