Beautiful Renaissance city Gate built in the 16th century. It was part of the city's fortifications and also acted as the main entrance into the Old Town and the starting point for the Royal Route. Originally the gate was surrounded by a ditch with water and had drawbridges. The gate has undergone major renovation work in recent years and now houses a tourist information point. #letsguide, #poland, #gdansk, #visitgdansk, #oldtown, #royalroute, #renaissance, #gate, #renaissancearchitecture, #touristinformation

🏛️A must see when you are visiting Gdańsk and the rest of trcity. Located near the main street, it's one of several entrances to the old town. Surrounded by several magnificent old fashioned-german style buildings, this area gives off an unusual historic vibe...

High Gate is a fantastic historic building. The details of all the arches that were built into it were amazing! You could imagine people in the chains either side of that inner building years ago! Lovely to be able to come in and view it free. I will have to Google more information on it to find out details of it's history. It seemed to be a main entrance to an area, as you can see details in the brick walls mm the outside, that other buildings were connected to it, a larger structure at some point? Enjoyed my visit to it😀

The museum itself was closed when we visited, but we were still able to walk through and have a look at the quirky architecture and ornamental bits of the inside. Shops were still open too.

Free to visit gate where in olden days prisoners were locked up - hence the chains.

Wonderful pedestrian mall. Well, except for the folks trying to entice you into some "pubs" We just ignored them and had a great time.

The Wyżynna Gate , formerly also the "High Gate" is a Renaissance city gate in Gdańsk. Until 1895 it was within the sixteenth century fortifications, between the Bastion of St. Elżbieta and the Kara Bastion. It was the main entrance gate to the city, opening the so-called Royal Way .

It’s very height gate. I couldn’t even touch the top but it’s pointless as you can just go via it and it’s not closed at all and ever. So not sure why it’s here as it doesn’t close. Also there is a parking close by so you can park and see the non cops able gate. It’s like old and things but like gate should be closed some times right? Maybe it’s a sheep gate or for cows? I don’t know but I didn’t see any around so I don’t know really.

Whatever they say about the famous ports in Europe this port in Gdansk must he on the list as well. It is not about tge structure, it is about the view when you enter the old city centre of Gdansk behind it. Walj underneath the Brama Wyzynna and you enter a serious beautifull, well maintained area, only for pedestrians...absolutely one of my favorite city centres.
