In Udaigiri caves there are 20 ancient time caves near Vidisha, which is in Madhya Pradesh. These are oldest caves found they seems to be from 5th century CE. In these cases we can see oldest Hindu temples preserved by Archaeological Survey of India. These temples and idols were destroyed by Mughals. This place is associated with Gupta period. This place is one of the India's important archaeological sites. Udayagiri hills and its caves are protected monuments in India and they are managed by the Archaeological Survey Of India.

One of the archeological centre in India. Don't go in afternoon or in summer season. It's very hot in top side. We have to walk for 25 - 40 minutes to cover the entire place in the rock hills. Vehicle parking area is available near to the ticket counter.

A place for nature lovers. Old ancient caves and figurines. Although there is not much too to see but you can go at the top of hill and enjoy the scenic view. Also, the road to reach the udaigiri caves are not good as there is construction of railway flyover is going on, so you might get stuck in the traffic for long time.

Possibly sometime in the early 5th century, artisans began work at Udayagiri under the patronage of the mighty Gupta ruler Chandragupta II Vikramaditya (375-414 AD) creating what is today seen as a cave temple complex. Visiting Udaigiri Caves in the Summer is quite impossible due to too much heat.

Brilliant experience! The site shows the richness our motherland brings to us. We all should be proud of its rich heritage. I was so happy to see all the fossils and artefacts. The view from the top is excellent. The entry fee is 25 per person, and I did not see much of a rush, so you get adequate time to see the monuments.

Sunset is looks awesome, the Caves are not that much big as bheembatika but it's good. Ancient art and sculptures are good to see. Ticket price is Rs. 25 per person, tickets are available in the office, parking space is enough, no access ormf wheel chair inside, all over the place is good to go for a low walk trekking.

Best place to spend your weekends. The place natural ambiance in post mansoon and winter season.after historical caves walk in woody, rocky area is itself fun. The place is extensively wild for trekking though it have very minimal terrains to walk and few spots on cliffs are great to enjoy sunset. The photos are from mid Aug.

These caves are located near Sanchi. It is dedicated to lord Vishnu. If you are visiting Sanchi and you have some time, you can visit here. Caves are locked, you can only view it from outside. It is very difficult to understand and see unless you are an archeologist. There is a climb of 20 minutes. Food and other options are very limited. I would recommend to only go, if you have extra time.

They are very well presrved by ASI. Some sculptures and idols carved on the mountain face of the caves are are very rare and unique. The ganesha carving and engraving near cave no.6 is one of the oldest ganesha idols in the country.

Pro tip: Dont go to the entrance directly. First buy tickets at the opposite end of the parking entrance. Else you will unnecessarily do to and fro. Also only paytm and cash works no other UPI is accepted. This is amazingly beautiful place. It is very underrated compared to its beauty. If you catch sunrise or sunset then you will never forget the beauty of this place. Just seating and diving into the beauty of this place is peaceful as well as romantic if you are with partner. I would not recommend to go in very sunny and hot days. At the same time it is disappointing to see people spoiling such beautiful place with littering everywhere.

It's a superb place where history comes alive. Thanks to the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board for keeping it simple yet clean. Unlike places like Konark Sun Temlple, you'll find no shop or crowd selling souvenirs and food items. So, there is no garbage, no crowd, only History that helps one soak in the Indian heritage and ancient culture presence in a serene atmosphere. There is the longest sculpture of Lord Vishnu found so far and many other ancient sculptures as well. Parking and clean toilet are also available for visitors. Ticket: Rs. 40 per head Parking: Free

Historical site worth visiting for history enthusiasts. Although for the non interested ones it's not as much a recommended place to have fun. Requires walking through a long, though not steep, uphill, that really has the capability of sucking up your energy really fast especially in scorching temperatures. Most of the caves are locked by see through doors but for those interested in historical events and architecture, it's worthwhile.

Udaygiri Caves are 13 km from Sanchi. Rock cut Caves are chiseled out of sandstone, belongs to Gupta period 4-5AD period. There are 1-20 Caves represent Hindu Gods, Buddha etc. ASI has developed ticket window, parking, washrooms opposite Caves in large area. These caves are very close to Sanchi Stupa around 10km,one should visit here while visiting sanchi. Also in close proximity to vidhisha. We visited from bhopal, roads are not great as its one way. There are many caves, with one cave having sleeping vishu's idol around 15 feet long. Small Trek is there for view points above the caves.

This pre historic place is mysteriously exciting and makes you wonder about what is beneath those caves. But the place is spread around vast lands and walking around can be quite exacting. Best time to visit should be during milder temperatures and a nice place enjoyed

Beautiful place, go with people who are not in hurry. Watch on the pavements, there are a lot of semiprecious agates. These agates are found only in Madhya Pradesh and Banda district of Uttar Pradesh.

Situated on a small hill, these caves feature rock cut caves and statues from the Chandragupta 2 era that is the 5th Century CE. These caves feature statues of Hindu and Jain statues. One Ganesha and one Vishnu rock cut statues which are found here are said to be one of the oldest statues in the world. This cave also features Varaha Dev protecting mother earth from Rakshasa, Chandragupta 2, Brahma Dev, Shiva and many more rock cuts from that era. Start exploring from the left side of the caves after entering from the main gate as all the rock cut caves are present there. From the right side you have to go up the hill through the stairs only to see the view around. I'll recommend you not to go up the hill as it's not worth and you'll get tired.

Wanted to visit Udaygiri and Khandagiri , We love visiting historical places , history fascinates us . Forts , palaces , caves , old temples (for the sake of architecture only ) , old houses intrigues us . Udaygiri caves are fascinating , small room like caves where sages / monks still come to meditate . The floors of the caves are built a bit inclined so they can sleep using the uplifted part as pillow . The tunnels which lead to Dhabalgiri are worth experiencing , it is very interesting how anyone ever passed through those narrow passage . A small square hole on the wall which was used to send messages to the soldiers hidden in some tunnel inside some cave was worth seeing . The king , Raja Kharavela took on Jain religion in his later life thus both carvings from Hindu as well as Jain religion can be seen on the walls of the caves . Both the sages from Hindu as well as Jain religion come to meditate here . If you love history and have not been to , you can visit Udaygiri, you will not regret the visit . ❤️

Great place to visit and spent time in nature. Not very sure but the place seem to have not only has archeological importance but also geological importance plus different natural scenic views in different directions. I like the distinctive flora of the place. We also spotted Keeled Indian Mabuya (lizard) there. It is open and worth visiting throughout the year but I especially love to visit in rainy season or a cloudy day. Though, you can spent hours there depending on you, but, if you're in a hurry you can easily cover the place in 1-2 hrs. There is a ticket of Rs. 25/- and it is free, easy and safe to park the vehicle and new parking construction is almost complete there. There is Jungle resort ran by government there where you can also eat and stay if you like. They provide bicycles if you stay there to ride around in the jungle which is fun and exciting too.
