The
main
attraction
of
Hostel
Uppelink
is
its
architectural
situation.
It's
housed
within
a
very
old
and
charming
building
with
wooden
floors
and
detailing
throughout,
and
the
view
from
the
kitchen,
dining
rooms,
bar,
and
upper
level
dorm
rooms
is
truly
phenomenal.
The
location
cannot
be
beat.
Plus,
the
inexpensive
breakfast
is
well
worth
it
if
you
book
in
advance
at
the
discounted
rate.
Finally,
the
kitchen
is
very
well-equipped
(however,
without
freezer
space)
and
the
wi-fi
is
strong.
My
only
criticism
(and
it's
a
serious
one)
is
that
all
common
areas
shut
down
around
10:30
or
11
p.m.
in
the
evenings.
At
this
point,
the
front
desk
reception
closes
the
kitchen,
dining
room,
bar,
and
common
lounge
and
leaves
the
reception
vacant
for
the
remainder
of
the
night.
Since
the
rooms
are
not
meant
for
socializing,
the
nightly
closure
of
all
common
areas
forces
all
guests
off
the
property
in
order
to
socialize.
I
could
understand
if
this
were
the
case
at,
say,
2
a.m.,
but
10-11
p.m.
is
unacceptable.
The
result
is
that
the
hostel
doesn't
feel
like
a
truly
communal,
shared
space
that
encourages
socializing
or
interaction.
To
prevent
partying,
there
are
other
measures
that
could
be
put
in
place
-
if
that's
the
desired
end-goal.
However,
in
this
case,
as
the
rules
currently
stand,
I
cannot
recommend
Hostel
Uppelink
for
its
social
life
or
"nightlife"
as
it
effectively
closes
at
a
very
early
hour.
Given
that
a
primary
goal
of
many
hostelgoers
is
to
socialize
at
night
with
other
guests,
myself
and
my
friends
at
the
hostel
were
very
disappointed
to
learn
about
this
rule
and
I
hope
measures
are
undertaken
to
correct
it.
