If you want to work your heart, try Moongate. A very well maintained hiking trail and the good Samaritans has done upgrading work too. Can be reach by the Rapid bus to Moongate entrance and also free ample parking lots for cars & bikes. Go all the way up to No 5 for your hot cup of black coffee & biscuits. Continue after Station 5 to Station 39 to burn more calories, which takes about 2 hours at moderate pace.

There is nothing new to Moongate hikers who have ply the routes in Botanical garden and knows the route at the back of their palm, especially those who frequent this trail. Nothing is new to ardent hikers that they're not aware of, every details of things happening here spread like wildfire among die hard trekkers. Nothing concerning this trail can hide from them, they have built a strong knitted community amongst them. Most trekkers at one time bound to have taken hikes from this vicinity to some of the rest stations situated here. The trail has churned into steps now on certain path, time varies to reach certain rest station differs. Bring a walking stick along for precautionary measures especially during raining season, it may come in handy when needed. The only advise for beginners or starters, hike with trekkers who are familiar with the routes here. Not a difficult route to track, anybody can do with a little will and determination. Be safe and enjoy your foray.

Took the stairs instead of the trail. Cool in the morning despite the heatwave throughout the country presently. Not difficult but fairly short. Took a slow leisurely 45mins going up. It is a bit steep at a few places. The trail is well maintained with lots of friendly local hikers. Easy to find a Grab car to and from Georgetown.

This is a good start point for hikes around the Botanical / Youth Park etc. Best avoid the steps and take the forest trails approx. 100 metres from the Moongate entrance in the direction of Botanical, just follow black pipe up can continue straight up or follow pipe past waterfall, many many paths.

I managed to make it halfway only because I started to feel lightheaded after that and took a long rest, I didn't managed to arrive at the resting area. Wasted opportunity! Anyway, the trail is well maintained and easy to navigate and follow. Managed to saw a few monkeys, lizards n a tiny Komodo dragon. If I'm fit enough, I'd love to hike here again and hope I can make it to Penang hill without fainting.

Enjoyed the hike to Penang gil very much , difficulty is 8/10 , not good for families , elderly or kids , requires good shape. Did it in 1h30 mins without break but I reckon at a normal pace is a 2h30 mins hike . Make sure to bring at least 1ltr of water and towels , is hot and hydration is important ✌️

Great start of a hike up Penang hill. Decent paths. Friendly local hikers. Nice view of the island as you go up. Can get steep in some sections but well worth the effort.

The Moongate5 trail has a huge signboard outside saying how this is one of the entrances to someone's mansion and you can hike there but in reality, that mansion is now a ruin and noone had even bothered putting up any signboards directing to said ruin. Instead if you follow up the stairs you can reach outpost 5 in around 25-45 mins depending on your fitness level and rest over there before continuing the hike all the way up to the peak of penang hill, or, if you're lazy like me turn right back down after sleeping on a hammock there for a while. The hike is pretty beginner friendly but you WILL sweat a lot so, definitely bring a waterbottle with you. And I read some reviews saying that the forest path leads to other trails at the base itself. Oh and once you climb up the stairs, almost towards the end you'd come across a bunch of stairs leading down, don't use those and instead keep going up- you'd reach the outpost in 5-10 mins from there.

Nice starting point up to Penang Hill. Very exciting trail through the jungle. The first part begins with stairs till point 5. From there the walking trail is more nature up and down. The last part to Penang hill you use the street which bit hard to walk up.

Well laid out route because there were no other trails to follow except this one. Hardly any sign posting. Make sure you have Google maps as path is shown accurately on there, just in case.

👍👍 Beneath the golden hues of twilight's embrace, I wander the Esplanade, a tranquil space. Amidst the laughter of locals and tourists near, Nature's symphony and history's whispers I hear. The gentle breeze dances through ancient trees, Whispering tales carried on the evening breeze. As I stroll past...
