It is a nice place to visit to expand our knowledge about the porcelains. Besides, there are many beautiful porcelains to view. It was a nice experience for my brother and I. The one that assist us also nice and friendly too. Thank you ♥️

Fascinating place to visit and to delve into our history. Hard to imagine some of these artifacts have survived for so many years. You can imagine some of the stories they could tell if they could speak. Hopefully more people can go and appreciate these rare insights into how we lived and how things have evolved. BTW you can claim a cup of coffee with your ticket :)

Very interesting museum! Level 3 displays a good collection of Song, Ching, and Ming dynasties Asian porcelain and artifacts. The most interesting display is Level 2, which shows an array of Chinese Opera Troop costumes! We were very fortunate to have Ms. Christene Leong (daughter of opera troop leader) to explain the history and background of her father's Cantonese Opera troop! Definitely not to be missed!

Really cool museum. So interesting to learn about the progression of ceramics over such a long period of time. I really enjoyed hearing about the shipwrecked ceramics from Kelvyn, the man who helped us. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about everything which made the experience even more enjoyable. Also really enjoyed the exhibition that was on about the Chinese opera and all of the colours and interesting details.

Lovely exhibits from historical wrecks. We loved reading all the curated ceramics and got a sense of how pottery developed through the ages from early dynasties until finally the Qing. Amazing to see how well preserved the ceramics were being underwater for hundreds of years. A glimpse into splendours of trade in the past

Had an awesome time at the Ming Art exhibition in St. Joseph Building Penang! The collection was mind-blowing, giving us a glimpse into the incredible Ming dynasty. Going on the weekend was a smart move, and getting tickets from the Museum on the 3rd floor was super easy. Definitely recommend checking it out!

I never regret stepping foot into the museum. The receptionist was so friendly and guided us when we entered. I never knew that ceramics and porcelains have so much history behind them. I'm surprised to see beautiful and vibrant pieces that were retrieved from ship wrecks. Good job to the team that curated the exhibition! Learnt a lot that day!

An interesting collections of permanent & thematic displays in a cosy ambience. Housed in an old seminary, the building incorporates a non service chapel as part of its legacy & attractions.

When I touched and held the true Shipwreck items, I felt I was in Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasty. It is really good place to visit even it is just a small museum. By the way, the cafe at downstairs is good. 😄

The Straits & Oriental Museum in Penang is a cultural gem that offers visitors a fascinating journey through the history and heritage of the region. The museum holds a significant collection of artifacts and exhibits that showcase the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the area over the centuries. One of the museum's highlights is its representation of the Straits Settlements, which includes Penang, Malacca, and Singapore. The displays provide valuable insights into the trade, migration, and cultural exchange that occurred in the region during the colonial era. For those interested in delving deeper into the fascinating history of Penang and its connections with the broader region, the Straits & Oriental Museum is undoubtedly a destination worth exploring.

Mum and I were interested in checking out this museum since we first heard about it. And we finally found some time today to pop in to have a look. We were happy with the overall experience and got to learn a lot - all thanks to Kelvyn.

It was my pleasure to visit the museum. The Collection is very diverse and shows you a lot about the Chinese history and rich colonial history of both Malaysia and SE Asia. Employees are fantastic and they really know a lot about artifacts and history of them. All in all, it was a very enriching experience.

It's pretty interesting to see more than just porcelain history here, you get to listen to history from the world trade, merchant, pirates too. It's more interesting too when we have a very fun and awesome curator to summarise the things up for us!

Never thought about the history of ceramics and pottery, turns out there is so much to be learned! It’s fascinating to see well made potteries that survive being submerged under the sea due to its excellent workmanship. Would highly recommend!

A private museum inside St. Joseph’s Novitiate, now Gurney Paragon mall. Small with 3 halls but very well set up and documented. Loads of information about the private collection as well as the recovery from the various shipwrecks. Opens daily 10am-7pm. I highly recommend the 40-min guided tour at 11am and 3pm. Mine last month was with Alvin - very personable and knowledgeable. Recommended!

I have a great time at Straits & Oriental Museum. The curator really explain to me the heritage of the item at the level 3. And you should go to the gift house at level 2 and they sell some of the item that is really interesting. Overall, I have great experience here. Fully recommended to those appreciating heritage, arts and culture ☺️

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
