I enjoyed a relaxing and cozy stay at The George. The rooms are new, spacious, with super comfortable beds and bathrooms. I booked a double room and felt it was a perfect stay for families and friends. There is a small pool and gym available for use but I think few actually use it. I had a quick look at the free buffet breakfast and I think there could be some improvement to the taste. As for the lounge, it looks really good but there wasn’t information on any snacks between meals. I think some thought could be given to improving the F&B in the hotel since Penang is such a food paradise.

I think that I enjoyed a delicious dinner at the hotel and the food that served for us are fresh. However, the hotel view is very nice, when I am enjoying my dinner, I can also viewing the heritage building view it was a good view. Nevertheless, the room of the hotel is very nice, and the swimming pool is at the middle of the two block of the hotel. Last but not least, I am very enjoying my dinner at the hotel.

The room looks nice but you can hear the club next door for the entire night. The hotel also forgot to give us bath towels on the second day and one of the patio doors couldn’t be closed. If you try to ring the front desk via the phone, no one will pick up. It’s a real budget feeling. We stayed 2 nights here.

I booked rooms for 2 nights and paid 3900 in total. With the premium price paid in comparison to nearby hotels, you would expect good service. Unfortunately, when arriving we were met with an unpleasant long queue to check in. It takes front staff 30 mins to check someone in, the lady was a trainee who was just trying her best to help.We checked in at 4.30pm and was told one of our room was not available. Many guest lining up were complaining about their overbooking, leaving guest with no room available! Other than that the bar, pool and steam room was enjoyable. Hope they consider upgrading gym facilities, not sure why when we came last night we were not able to open the gym door. Will come back only if they improve front desk service, everything else was great and staff friendly. Staff is confused about charging breakfast, first told us it is included. Then told us we need to pay 75 even though our booking says 40. Then told us it will be charged by card after that told us we need to pay by cash. No one knows what they are doing here. Save yourself the grief, go somewhere else for a proper 5* experience.

Worst check in experience. Check in process took me 30 minute and their reply is always “We are fully booked hence unable to let you check in ”… certainly not how a 5 star hotel works. Front desk staff definitely not presenting the hotel in a good light with the poor attitude, just ask us to wait and wait. Gym is super small with very few equipment and you count that as a gym. Certainly, disappointing. Breakfast was equally disappointing. Food not up to standard with very few variety Highlight of this hotel is the good location. Beautiful (sheltered) swimming pool compensating for the horrible gym. Thankfully room was clean. Bed and pillow were all up to standard. Glad I took the basic room as it doesn’t have the noisy club issue despite the poor view from my room.

Beautiful and clean hotel. However, the customer service and front desk staff have a lot to improve on, and a lot more training is needed. There is no system in place for check-in, resulting all guest to flood and wait at the lobby. Some guest told us they waited 3 hours for their room. This is terrible considering every minute wait is a waste of tourist/traveller’s time in the city. It still baffles me that at 4pm, our rooms are not done. And yet we are expected to check-out at 11am. I really don’t know what the housekeeping is doing during this 5 hours, and there isn’t a lot of rooms to begin with. Front desk staff and managers should also present themselves friendlier and with a polite attitude. Overall, since we wasted so much time (all guests in this hotel is faced with the same issue) I would not recommend this to anyone.

It is brand new. Right at the centre of town. Self service laundry is just 2 minutes walk away. There was some issues for the room that was allocated to us. Yet, whoever managed my concern in the middle of the night handled it well. At least, I am glad that I did not need to be upset. Customers were put 1st and people here are friendly. Very down to earth and staff are all willing to be approachable. We are thankful to the maintenance guy and night counter staff. Overall, it was a great stay and we had a good experience.

I was not a guest in the hotel, just dropped in to have a drink and who knows a snack......The coffee house was inviting despite empty and we were promptly told to goto the bar without even being asked if we prefer to sit there or not. That is a question to wonder?? And we were not happy. The place is cooling, soothing, peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Service was not on par with such a hotel. I am a world traveler and I can tell when one is not competent as per required or trained. Not much to complain as I have a minimal usage for now. Would like to try out the coffee house meals and sit by the glass to gaze at the hustle n bustle of Penang road.......hopefully we will not be turned away again.

This place is awesome! Could not ask for more. We held our private event here at Saffron Dining. The design of the interior is just wonderful. The food is up to standard that we can rarely find hotels with good buffet food. Staff are amazing and very helpful. pre event arrangements are smooth and during the day of event, everything is been arranged. All we have to do is come and attend the event. We would definitely come back here for more events and stays. Good job The George team, keep it up!

It was such a wonderful reunion dinner we had in The George Hotel Saffron Dining Space. The ingredients used were Top notch selection and fresh. We were hosted in the atmosphere like home. Friendly staff and service was prompt. We had “LouSang” and I must say that it was the Best I had so far, not overly dressed and refreshing. The CNY package we ordered came with scrumptious portion and beyond expectation! All dishes were swiped clean and filled with happiness. Superb dining experience, Highly recommended.

Kudos and Bravo to Saffron Restaurant in The George Hotel. We had our CNY dinner there and all of us was happy and satisfied with the food and service. Everything served with the right temperature and the ingredients used were fresh and high quality. The staff may be new but we can feel that they are trying their very best to give the service. We will definitely go back again.

Fantastic hotel room, great experience and design. You'll get what you paid for, totally 5 star standard, even their public toilets have Japan toilet bowl standard. Anyway you can notice the hotel staff still fresh and new, but they are polite and trying their best to help you. Side note, remember to checkout their bar, nice ambient and bar counter design, with 5 star hotel rating you can get cheaper beer than most of the bar outside!

My CNY dinner with my family at the hotel was excellent. The food was delicious and the servers are very helpful. The ambience of the hotel and restaurant are so beautiful with classy interiors and we took many memorable photos. A great venue for gathering and holiday!

Dear Oustanding The George Hotel, Thank you so much for the exceptional customer service and accommodations. I was amazed with your pleasant customer service team (Nicole, Santesh, Dew, and others). I was supposed to check into another hotel, but due to some avoidable reason, I had to cancel my booking at that hotel, and I just walk in to The George Hotel for room availability. I am fortunate that the George Hotel has the room that I am looking for ("a family room with a very reasonable price"). The glamorous aspects of the George Hotel are as follows: 1. Location: very strategic and in the centre of the city (opposite Line Nasi Kandar, 4 minutes walk to Jeruk Pak Ali, 8 minutes walk to Railway Roti Canai, etc.). 2. The George Hotel Building: A white building with heritage looks and a nice place to take photos 3. Parking: underground parking and near the lift 4. Room: Brand new with excellent comfort (the beds, AI toilet, big TV screen, wardrobe, etc.). 5. Coffee House: The room comes with a delicious breakfast. 6. Other services: The gym and steam bath are brand new. All in all, it's awesome! I will come again with my family.

Great location. Easy check in and out. We were provided ice cold towels on arrival, a much needed relief from the afternoon sun. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. A lot of attention was paid to details, right down to the tiling and paint work. Comfy bed and pillows altho some may find it not fluffy enough. We had a room facing the back road which was very quite. Its a great location within walking distance to a lot of local eateries. Ample basement parking for hotel guests.

The perfect definition of a hotel is : The George. The rooms are ultra luxurious and all the amenities are amazing. The gym, the sauna 😍, the swimming pool and evrything is the best. I wish I could stay a bit longer. I can't stop taking about this hotel. The hospitality and the staff were good as well. The breakfast buffet was normal. But rest everything was top class.

Clean, central, great facilities. Bed was super comfy and bathroom was very luxurious. Fluffy hotel slippers and bath towels were also provided. They also had a saltwater pool and steam room that we didn’t get to use but looked really nice! Could also walk to most places and there were a few great spots for food around us. Was about 30 mins from the airport

First of all the hotel is gorgeous and in a great location. Such a pity the staff running this hotel requires much more training and improvement - in particular the front desk staff and manager. Friendlier attitude would be nice. 1) No room card was available at check in Had to be escorted to the room each time we leave. No information given for WiFi access as well. No one informed when the card was ready until we went to ask. 2) Entire floor lost power on one night for a good 15 mins - staff were slow to react. 3) Toilet flush malfunctioned one night, we requested it to be fixed early morning. Came back to the hotel at 1 pm - housekeeping not done, flush not fixed. Argued that our room must be on do not disturb function - which was untrue. 4) If your room faces the road - not so good as there is a club that starts loud partying music from 10pm onwards. Hoping this hotel can improve to be worthy of its 5-stars.

We spent one night at The George in the UNESCO Heritage City of Georgetown. The hotel is housed in a colonial building and its strategic location makes you experience the local culture where diverse and vibrant communities are brought together. Our Colonial Suite was romantic with its own private terrace and meticulously-designed facilities and amenities that give out that sophisticated vibe. We indulged in a fun bubble bath at the freestanding bath tub. We also loved our very spacious balcony and spent most of our lull time there. The buffet breakfast at Saffron Dining was great with a variety of local and international dishes. The overall vibe of the hotel is modern chic and it gives you this feeling of colonial opulence. I've been to Malaysia a lot of times and I can say that The George is one of the best hotels in terms of design and aesthetics in Malaysia.

Old world style in a completely renovated building slap bang in the heart of George Town. Great room, great service and very comfortable stay. The pool is very refreshing. It's cold but the perfect way to cool off after wandering the steamy streets! Did not eat it drink here but the facilities looked really nice (if not a bit quiet)

My parents and I stayed for two nights here, and apart from a small hiccup where my door scanner wouldn’t read my card at 9pm (tech glitch does happen!), everything else was perfect. Love every details of the hotel. Staff was attentive, even told me the story behind the philately decor, the salt-water pool was delightful, and breakfast choices were great. Location was excellent too. Couldn’t asked for more.

We stayed here on our trip to Penang for my brothers wedding. The wedding was at a different location at the beach but we all wanted to spend some time in George Town right before. The hotel is so well furnished and service was excellent. All the amenities are great and thought through. The Japanese style toilets were an added touch. To top it off the staff were so helpful. And a massive thank you to Alan who was so cheerful and caring and when he found out my brother was getting married, he arranged for them to be upgraded as a gift from them. It was really a wonderful experience and I know where to recommend if people as me where to stay in Penang!

Newly open, great location and reasonable price, I only need this 3 when looking for rooms. I don't mind the awful breakfast buffet here, many good local choices around the hotel. I'm also fine with the fact that the staff at the front desk tried to charge me RM 12 Local Gov Fee again during my check-out, which I already paid when checking-in. Sadly this small mistake by the staff can actually affecting the hotel's image. The room is great though.

The Executive Suite was a little underwhelming, living room was too empty lacking a basic table to put keys, wallets etc. Bedroom furniture in quite an awkward position, round table and side table overlapping. Lighting also lacking, no option to make the rooms brighter. Toilet lacking basic rails to hang multiple towels etc., very high tech toilet bowls though. Location of this hotel is great, walking distance to many local attractions. Breakfast is acceptable, but would be better off walking out to fill your tummies with wonderful Penang food.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Beds are OK, definitely not 5 stars but acceptable. That's where the positives end. The hotel experience is a disaster. There is a very loud club nearby so forget about sleeping: all night long, loud basses. The hotel doesn't have double glazed windows (why?) so you will hear it all night long if you're on the street side. If you're on the other side, you will hear your neighbors instead. Security is ridiculous: I forgot my card and room number and asked the front lobby to bring me to my room. They brought me to the wrong room, which I realized only as I got in. Breakfast is included but it's 2 to 3 stars maximum. Some very dubious food hygiene issues going on, and the layout is really weird. For half of our stay, there was no hot water. No compensation or apology. And our room wasn't made up until we asked like 3 times. For a hotel that opened just a few months ago, the rooms are pretty run down already. Some dubious stains on the floor and on the bedside tables, and the ceiling in the bathroom was peeling already. Honestly for the price you better stay somewhere else in Penang. One star review rather than 2-3 stars because the chubby guy at the reception, Allan, is about as interested in solving customer problems as he is getting to a BMI < 30

We stayed here for 3 nights. Rooms were nice and spacious. It was mostly clean, but can improve on removing dusts from certain places like under the bedside table or above the bedhead. Bed and pillows were comfortable. We also really loved the japanese toilets with heated toilet seats. There were a few things that needed to be repaired in my room when i checked in but the response from staff to get things repaired was prompt. A repairman came to my room just less than 10 minutes after calling reception. Service from staff was also excellent. We also loved that they provide pool towels for use of pools or sauna (on top of towels that were already provided in the rooms). Location was great, right in the middle of georgetown with lots of food options to pick from. Breakfast provided could be improved, was a little bland. All in all, we would definitely stay at The George again in the future.

Its the latest trending hotel in town so we decided to give it a go. The overall design of the hotel is nice especially with the match of vibrant colors while keeping in touch with the colonial theme. Very instagrammable! Food was good as we invited some friends over. Overall it was a great experience.
