This is a very old name in the Penang dining scene that serves really great Chinese food at decent prices. The food has quality and please remember to reserve especially on weekend nights as this is also a popular venue for wedding dinners. There’s ample car park behind the restaurant (within the compound - please use the lane before the property (Lorong Singapura) to enter the car park).

Family dinner last months, food are nice but service has room to improve, wait for about 45mins for fish steamboat after we have finished all the food on the table and need to follow up few times to get the steamboat on our table. Maybe is their waitresses are not enough to support peak dinner hour period.

This restaurant is a pretty fun dining experience. It is better to dine with at least four in your group to be able to select a larger variety of dishes. Favourite fish steamboat Penang. I really think everything here is great - the portions, the broth flavour, the quality of ingredients and the service. I've been a regular customer here ever since stumbling upon the place couple of years ago. Never disappointed, it's my go-to for fish steamboat

Updating my review after 3 yrs! This place used to be a cinema before it became a restaurant that serves Chinese food. No doubt the food here is really nice. Been here for dinner which serves different course meal and also to attend wedding dinner and the food never disappoints. Sep 2022 Came to try the famous hotpot and it is really nice! Soup is delicious but once they refilled, it becomes more diluted. Also ordered other dishes and as usual, they are very nice!

Very reputable restaurant, come here every year for Chinese new year dinner, but was very disappointed with the Chinese new year set dinner. The prosperity yu sang doesn't comes with yu sang which is normally fresh salmon. They replaced it with fried fish which looks like large anchovies. Misleading, should not call it Yu Sang. The lobster was served but have doubt if it is real fresh lobster, because the waitress, said they need to take away the shell before we start eating. I ask her why, for recycling? The steam fish so small even the spring onion and coriander garnish was just a handful only. The fish I bought for in the market is twice the size. Terrible 😔, will not come again next year.

Attended a friend’s wedding dinner and each dish were delicious and flavorful; they also were generous with their portions. Servers were also well-mannered, attentive to guests, and quick to clean and set up things. It was an evening well spent and also remembered. Good food, good mood. 😁

Had a Sun brunch with my family. The restaurant was still packed at 1+ pm but because it was a huge place, we could find a table promptly. We ordered golden spring roll, shark fin soup with crab meat, salted egg prawn, minced garlic kailan and fried imperial noodle. All dishes were delicious. The ingredients were fresh. The prawns were deshelled. The waiters were attentive. Our tea got refilled very promptly. Would love to revisit again!

During Chinese new year invariably brings up thoughts & nostalgia for family reunion dinner. Starview restaurant, an old-school family-run restaurant still presenting their dishes in ways that haven’t changed much for decades. The dishes here still one of the best in town, generous portion and taste that lights up your eyes. Supporting them are their loyal customers, this restaurant needs advance booking not to be disappointed. A highly recommended place to toss your “yeesang”, enjoy a wonderful lunch/dinner here. Rest assure, that with their business have not folded during the Covid-19 is a place you can’t go wrong to have a good & satisfying time here.

Wow!… Wow! I’m stuffed… it was a superb meal. The steamboat fish broth was par excellent! Lovely soup with veggies and fresh fish. We took the set meal for 10pax. And we left stuffed to the brim. Tasty food, unless you are a total chinese dishes snob. Service was excellent too. Stand out dishes was the fish soup, the prawn salad and prawn rolls. Will return the next time we are back in Penang

The restaurant is located inside an old building but the interior was tastefully renovated and it looks modern and new. Was here for company dinner. Not sure how much is the bill but the dishes are authentic Chinese and it reminded me the raw taste of the older days. Strongly recommend.

Family favourite Chinese restaurant in town, always back for more. Tasty food, large menu, big clean area and nice cozy ambience. Friendly and helpful staffs. Private room, general seating area or big event. Ample parking is available. Another branch is in mainland. Very recommended!

Grand space & huge, came here to celebrate birthday for my relative. Table is huge / menu is good / food memang sedappp! Classic Penang Chinese style restaurants, is been popular for many years. Used to be a cinema complex but converted into a restaurant now.

One of the waitress was very attentive (sorry didn't get her name). She did a very commendable job. Yes, we were a group of 12 pax in a VIP room for lunch at 12 noon under Mr Kee.

Food: 2.5/5 Service: 4/5 Environment: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Overall Rating: 3/5 Review: Ok overall it's a very fancy restaurant, and I do recommend having a reservation before coming to this place. They will give you free food (peanuts) before they give you the food that you order, and to me, it's kinda the only delicious thing that I tasted this evening. My family had a steamboat dinner, and to me, I didn't really like anything steamed so it wasn't a good experience for me. If it wasn't for the peanuts, then my rating would've been lower. So overall I think that this restaurant is okay. Not the best, but not the worst I've visited.

Pretty good old school Chinese restaurant. Old style Chinese dishes are good, loads of parking at the back of the restaurant. Really like the pork knuckle and the Chinese chive prawn balls

A very lovely restaurant serving good food at reasonable prices. With tea, nuts and wet tissues thrown in, our 5 dishes meals came up to $341 ringgit. A very enjoyable dinner

One of the two better restaurants from the past century, the other being Maple Gold. Starview had its roots in the 1970s at the Ambassador Hotel on Penang Road and was twice relocated until settling in at the former Federal Theatre at Dato Kramat. Ample parking and recommended, expect to pay >RM100 per person.

This restaurant keeps up with its standard of banquet lunch/dinners. I love its yam basket, seafood soup without sharkfins, spring rolls, and prawns salad. Fresh food, tasty and quality food. Service is OK except the person who took the order was rude expecting all customers knowing to read Chinese when we are from overseas.

Food was average at best. Portion was ok. But not enough dishes for special menu selections. Service was very good.. some dishes have a lot of msg.

We always choose to dine here during celebrations or events ever since their shop was in New World Park. The quality of food had not change, still the best compared to other Chinese restaurants, although others are not bad. They are famous for their fish hotpot/ steamboat. Their ala carte and course meal are good as well. The price is reasonable for restaurant standards, slightly lower as compared to other Chinese restaurants. Normal days might be easier to book a table, Chinese New Year or auspicious days for banquet are usually full, advise to book a lot in advance.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
