A wonderful gastronomic journey of specially crafted menu with a local touch. The Cognac and Hay Aged Duck is a must try, but do remember to preorder 2 days ahead. The presentation of the duck is very special. Starting by showcasing the roasted smoked duck in a wooden chest, the aroma is tantalizing. The duck breast main dish is simply delicious. It doesn't end there, you are given the duck drumstick for your breakfast the next morning. The mouth washer is worth mentioning - Magnum Sorbet. A very unique creation with local touch. Will definitely come back to try other menu. Well done, team Au Jardin. A small recommendation: it would be great to offer coffee or tea to end this amazing culinary experience.

Taking a bit of time to write about this post today. Met Chef Su Kim Hock many years ago when he did a pop up in Fullerton Sg. He came back to open his flagship restaurant Au Jardin in his birthplace Penang. He was trained in UK and his signature has been always to infuse local Flavors and ingredients in his cooking. He never fail to amaze me on how he can incorporate local spice and herbs such as lemon grass, raja ulam into his French classical methods. He would do what Andre did for Sg food scene back in the days. Penang has always been my favorite goto place for makan and street food but never fine dining. I’m confident that he will single handedly bring up the fine dining food scene in Penang. After all there are so many rich people in Penang! Enjoy at least to see some of his creations here. Be prepared to spend some money though, if your know what I mean 😊.

I had the holiday set menu. The presentation of the food was excellent, and I enjoyed trying Malaysian ingredients with more modern dishes. The spare ribs were amazing, and the tomato chutney butter was the best fancy butter I ever had. I wish the menu overall had leaned more on the Malaysian flavors. The non-alcoholic pairing was interesting, though most drinks were too sweet. The staff was efficient, but they need to work on customer service. I arrived 8 minutes early (they had messaged me to tell me not to be late), and the hostess turned me back at the door and literally told me to go outside for a walk. They didn't even allow me to wait in the air conditioned lobby.

I went for dinner here alone, and got the vegetarian menu. It was the best meal I’ve ever eaten. It was a 10 course menu, and I also got the matching non alcoholic drinks menu. The dishes were straight up incredibly delicious. The atmosphere was modern and chic, the vibe was just right. The chef and his team are so knowledgeable and professional, you can really taste that they are passionate about they’re work. For what you get, the price is incredible. If you want an experience you’ll never forget , I highly recommend this restaurant.

Restaurant Au Jardin combines fine technique, a fierce respect for local ingredients, and thoughtful, attentive service for a dining experience possibly unrivalled in Penang. The food is creative, well executed, and often just downright delicious. A must-visit.

This place is such a treat! The building itself makes the first impression - luxe interiors overlooking a lovely indoor garden set inside a warehouse-like structure. The food was eclectic and drew on plenty of influences (French and Thai to Indian and Japanese), including the flavours of Penang itself. The dishes were creative, delicious, and perfectly executed. The service was also fantastic. Our server Alvin was warm, attentive, informative, and very accommodating including of our multiple requests for more of the amazing “thosai” bread and tomato chutney butter. This place shines even in a food haven like Penang. Pay a visit if you can - you won’t regret it.

Gotta say that they have not changed their quality one bit. Was a long time customer before their Michelin Star achievement. The way they take the simplest of local ingredients and turn it into a masterpiece is plain genius. Servers were quite well trained and courteous. Will definitely visit again if ever we're in down.

I could not believe my eyes when I first learned about this restaurant. A fine dining restaurant located inside a building with corrugated iron on its exterior? Surely it is worth checking out? I am so glad I did. With my trusty Google Maps, I managed to find it after a brisk walk from my hotel. The walk did wonders for my appetite and I was ready to eat a horse (figuratively speaking, of course!). The interior is simple yet classy and belies the external facade. The food is amazing and their service is really good. I am definitely coming back for dinner and cocktails the next time.

Paid a 5-star bill for a 2-star experience. First impression: decor was cheap. Terrible furnitures & fixtures, why would a place like au Jardin uses laminated tabletops that belong to a kopidiam? Also never had paper towels for napkins at a fine dining restaurant before. Food was okay, some fancy combinations, but nothing really stood out in terms of taste. Had better food at other semi fine restaurants for half the price. Dessert was bland. Paid 500+ each for the lunch(without wine pairing) quite disappointed.

Flying the flag for fine dining in food crazy Penang. World class service. Local produce championed. Excellent technique. Very good wine pairing. Head chef is either on the pass or being wonderfully and genuinely friendly to the customers. Love the passion!

I 100% recommend this restaurant. My two friends and I went and enjoyed it the whole way through. We ordered the smoked hay duck 2 days in advance and it was incredible. We also picked the non alcoholic association menu when we got there, which put the lunch at a whole other level. The service was good (even though the drink/dish association wasn’t always very synchronized), the atmosphere very pleasing and calm, the products were fresh. At the end, the hay duck option allows us to get a doggy bag with the leftovers of the duck, a salad, some bread and butter : a whole other lunch or diner ! This lunch was a great way to end our trip. It is pricey, but worth it.

Nice place with good ambiance. The servers are really attentive and they explain each dish to you in terms you can understand. The food is really good too which is what is important. And I like the idea that they vacumm packed the other parts of the duck meat that was not used for the dish for you to bring back. This reduces wastage and they even provide ingredients and recepie on how to prepare it for breakfast the following day. And lastly, they found out it was our wedding anniversary when we asked their help to take a pic and they took the initiative to help decorate the following dish with the wordings of anniversary to add to the atmosphere. Thanks alot! Really impressed.

Definitely worth a try! Every dish with non-alcohol beverage pairing is so creative and in harmonious proportion. We arrived at 6pm and the atmosphere is bright in a greenhouse-like space. Then the dawn followed with romantic lights of the bar at night. The service is also out of expectation. We’ll come back again for different menu in the future.

Fantastic culinary art which of course, taste wonderful. Great creativity combining various ingredients in each serving plate. Truly deserves the Michelin Star accolade Damage : US$120 , it can go up a lot more with full pairing of wine

Made reservations on the night they were awarded with a Michelin star, travelled from KL to PG for the sole purpose of trying them out. Not disappointed. Great experience start to finish. Went with the caviar add-on, hay-aged duck, and foie gras, all great additions to the experience. The duck came with a takeaway set for breakfast the next day, which was a pleasant surprise, really nice touch. Loved how there is some local influence without compromising finesse.

Rather average food and pretentious. Presentation was good but unfortunately flavours were flat. Food composition was inappropriate, for example, the inclusion of nagaimo with mudcrab resulted in a slimy mouthfeel. Slimy seafood brings to mind stale seafood. In the end, too much focus on form over function. Not helped by overly strong perfumes from other customers. Service was, on the other hand, good. Overall a disappointing experience.

My partner and I came here for a New Year’s Eve dinner and was so happy we made it there! Everything about this restaurant was top notch - the food, the service, the ambience I love the fact that the chef utilizes a lot of local ingredients and it was always treated as a highlight when they explain each plate. Each plate was truly memorable, from the amuse bouche, thosai bread and tomato puree butter, to the caviar, super succulent lamb, palate cleanser, dessert. No plate was less than exceptional! Will definitely be returning (when our wallets allow 😅) no questions asked!

Every dish was a hit for me. Surprised that ingredients are locally sourced and yet tasted very delicious. Service was great and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The purple sorbet is made from cabbage. I got the Duck option

We came here during the week for lunch. The one star Michelin French restaurant (with subtle local twist) is located within the compound of trendy Hin Bus Depot. The service and the ambience were all good. The food and amuse bouche were all good too although I felt the steak and duck were just ok. (Lacked excitement although good presentation). The fresh thosai bread with tomato butter was excellent. As an added bonus, they provided us with a breakfast box (see picture) for the next day to finalise the experience. I would score 7/10. Around RM660 per person (without alcohol)

Okay so this is gonna be a lengthy post given how blown away we were by @aujardin. We went in with zero-ish expectations and came out mind blown with how good they are. Every dish that came out from the kitchen was given meticulous care and attention to detail and you’re given a very clear sense of Chef Kim Hock’s personality as you glide through their 6-course degustation menu that amplifies their creativity, finesse & talent that won them that Michelin star they truly deserve. They change 70% of their menu every month and constantly find ways to reinvent themselves. The team’s energy and discipline in the kitchen is stuff that you can only imagine on an episode of Hell’s Kitchen, just a whole lot less Gordon Ramsey and a whole lot more Alain Ducasse. The A5 Wagyu was simply sublime. That was the crescendo to a culinary journey that was well-thought out and made to impress. This, just became my number one in Malaysia. And as Chef Hock quietly mentioned, they’re ready for their 2nd star. Well done guys. Can’t wait to see what you guys do next.

Beyond speechless. The creativity. The ambiance. The service. The whole experience is just amazing. Chef Hock asked me to be honest and name the weakest dish and I couldn’t come up with any. Gotta spoil your palates once in awhile. Can’t wait to go back for brunch tomorrow too!!!

Low key and subtle flavours, just like the location. Dishes are well presented and classy but/and with very non aggressive taste (spicy mustard accompanying the meat dish exempted). Has both Japanese and European influences with some local ingredients added. A welcome component to the food scene, no doubt.

Visited in Sep 2023 Franco-Asian cuisine at its best. Great food. Excellent presentation/creativity. Good service. Even the palette cleanser dish was really good. Would highly recommend people to (a) pre-order the dry-aged duck, and (b) add on the foie gras dish. If you don’t pre-order the duck, you won’t be able to order it in the restaurant. I went with the non-alcoholic pairing which was decent - a couple of good kombuchas. A 100% recommendation for those visiting Penang

Ambience is superb. Service is great. Staff are attentive. Food is pretty good, except a bit on the pricey side for the amount you're getting.... but, all fine dining are like this. Big plate, little food. Nice place for a date, or special occasion dinner.

We came to know this restaurant through friend's recommendation. A cosy and classy restaurant with a touch of serenity the moment you step in. This experiential dining not only pleased our palates but also the eyes, every dish was an artistic creation by the chef.  The staff was well versed with the creation behind each dish.   Wonderful service and food, will definitely go back when I visit Penang again.

Nice food and nice environment. The wine list was good too, could have done better with the Matcha latte dessert though. By the way, parking is a problem so if you’re driving and park inside, most likely you’ll be double parking so please leave your contact on the dash or notify the waiter/waitress.

Au Jardin is a destination restaurant - we were only in Penang for 48 hours but we heard such good things we had to give it a try here. We were not disappointed with the food - from the amuse bouche to the dessert, techniques and taste was impeccable. Highlights include this month’s smoked lamb tartare that even my picky husband liked. Both of us polished off all the curry flavoured butter with some additional crusty bread. We were recommended the non-alcoholic pairing, which made each course a real adventure. We found the magnum sorbet and dessert were pretty but 2 dimensional in taste. If you are booking in advance, try to get the level 1 space if you would like to see & smell the hubbub of the kitchen. Level 2 is quiet and private, with less ambience and interaction. Lastly - I was very heartened to taste such familiar flavours but elevated in such ingenious ways. The marinated daikon, betel leaf, cold crab and even the Vintage Box Smoke Magic Duck all evoked childhood memories of comfort food. Would love to come again.

Creative creation with great use of quality ingredients. It's the first time we tried a non-alcoholic pairing and the mostly tea and floral based concoction were rather impressive. While I was initially very curious by the century egg ice cream dish, my favourite is still the delicious yet light and refreshing dessert and the sorbet palette cleanser Worth a try for sure!

Truly excellent fine dining in Penang. The techniques are French but the flavours are varied, from Asian flavours like soy and yuzu, to western flavours like marmite and Pringles! Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. Service was good. We brought our own wine (corkage RM50) but they do have a drinks pairing (alcoholic and non alcoholic). They made a fully vegetarian tasting menu for me. We sat at the bar chairs to watch the chefs preparing our food.

Every plate is meticulously prepared with love. Eventhough it takes us few bites to consume but I know behind the scene, it takes lots of efffort to prepare it. I see more staff working than patrons the place can accomodate on their ground floor. I especially love their homemade bread to go with a dipping that is uniquely designed with a combination of local ingredients of dal, curry leaf but using gastronomy cooking method. My main was the Flounder Fish. The skin is crispy but the meat is very nicely cooked - juicy, not dry at all. The pairing with the sauce was amazing. Great service, detail in their narration for every dish served. No wine pairing option. BYO wine is RM50 per bottle.
