The rating and review is personally based on my friend and I experience there. Firstly I don't understand what kind of concept it is that we have to remove shoes and walk up two floors to the reception. I personally found that ridiculous. Second point was the room my friend stayed the aircon was not working but when we raised the concern the person told us need to wait about 1 hour for room to get cold which we found it to be ridiculous but agreed. After 2 hours same problem and we complained and they changed the room for us eventually but told us the room my friend booked which is more expensive is sold out. So we got a downgraded room which was really small. Third issue which I was seriously very upset was we got charged tourist tax which was RM12 per person. We told them we are Malaysian and even showed our IC. The person said this is the normal charges in Penang. When we did our check out another lady was there and I asked for the receipt for the RM12 tax and she was shocked saying the charge for locals was only RM2 per person. We requested for a refund which we got eventually. As for the room downgrade we also got a refund but was informed by the lady there were rooms available as per my friends previous room. Totally regretted staying here. Only good part of this place is the location

Hi all, we are 2 female traveller visiting this heritage town. We booked this room via agoda as it stated down there’s a free carpark at the hotel premises. But apparently the so call free carpark was the public carpark by the road and a small parking space behind the building where you need to pay for it per entry. Parking space was so limited there. We end up have to park our car 2 street across this hotel. This hotel is located at 2nd floor. Which means you need to climb up the stairs with your luggage and belongings up the stairs. Upon verifying the carpark issue with the reception staff, we were bring ignored and they spoke in their own language among themself. After 2nd enquiry for the car park, we were being told with an unpleasant gesture that all the guest have to use the public carpark or the paying carpark, they don’t have free carpark service. The service from the staff here was mehhhh as they were not helpful. Although the room was well decorated and with a large space, but the sound prof was bad as we could hear the music clearly across the street and baby crying from the other rooms. Furthermore there privacy from their suite toilet needed to be improve as it is just a plain glass door shape rating the room and toilet without any blind. You literally could see through into the toilet. There’s also a big gap from the bathroom window and it able to view from the common space and walkway which shared along the guest there. We did not stay there for the night yet we checked out right away after realising the bathroom privacy issue and safety issue. Upon checking out, the staff did not even ask what happened and the way they presented were not polite. Tried to tell them the issue we faced but they told us that they had actually upgraded our room to that suite, but we were not informed during check-in. We felt something fishy here. Think twice before you book this place! Don’t be fooled by the picture from this hotel!

    1) Booked a suite room - defective aircond and apparently many ppl have complained before. 2) staff came back to room to give us second access card, didn’t even knock the door just tagged and open the door. 3) shoes are to be removed, but they make us walk barefoot through dirty areas to the suite room. 4) night staff tried to short change us by charging additional tourist tax of rm 24 although he knows we are locals. We took refund the next morning from the morning staff and only paid rm2. 5) ID of this place is nice but definitely need to improvise on maintenance.

Certainly there are pros and cons in Tien Hotel. It is a good choice if you prefer it’s strategy location, everything is within walking distance. The hotel owner has done their best to place a better DGU window to reduce the noise by the external. The only minus one star is lacking if small table and chair, hairdryer in the room.

Environment and location is no doubt really good. Best part of the experience in this boutique hotel is the shower head that’s able to connect Bluetooth (NK-B2415) and play music while showering. On the other hand, some highlights of dissatisfactions are there’s no elevator and you need to climb the stairs to the third floor to check in. You will have to climb the stairs with your all belongings if you are travelling alone. The heater is not working very well. Cause while taking a shower at night the heater is not working and is forced to shower in cold water. The room is not cleaned properly, floor is very dusty. Wore slipper and the slipper is not disposable slipper, instead it’s reused and worn fur balls are visible (not sure if they washed it or not). No toothbrush set is provided. Worst of all, no faucet. TV have nothing to watch and the air conditioner gets cold really slow and water are dripping from above. Really big pantry but no microwave. Which is kinda disappointing. But hands down, staff is very friendly and helpful. Kindly note that there’s a claimable parking at the back of the hotel near the temple. The parking assistant man will ask for RM8 for the parking and will reserve it for the rest of your stay. Do not worry, cause the money is fully claimable upon checking out. And all staffs off duty at 8pm. But the receptionist will leave her phone number to you to contact in case if you needed anything after 8pm (Although not really responsive, understandable cause everyone needed rest).

Positives: The location is pretty good, next to a lot of nice things, I also really liked the smart tv, although it was located at a weird angle in the room, the staff are fairly nice and friendly too. Negatives: The toilet, it's practically inside the room, with no door and no ventilation. The only thing between the toilet and the bed is a curtain. I literally had to go across the street to a restaurant to do my business, as the hotel has no toilet outside the rooms. Also, the toilet doesn't have a water bidet, nor are toothbrush sets provided, which is basically a standard in every hotel. Lastly, it's in a noisy area in town, so some sound isolation would have been necessary.

Truly exceeded my expectations! Location : Right smack in heart of all the action. Just minutes away from everything that is important. Facilities : Love it! Much thought was taken to design and decorate the place. Very clean facilities. Not a single plastic bottle was used in the hotel. Bonus points for that! Hospitality : could not have asked for more. Requested for an early check in and they accommodated. Fell in love with their toiletries and they happily supplied me with extra tubes to bring home! The free suite upgrade was a bonus! Thank you Raj and team for making our stay so memorable!

Wow, what a beautiful place, just a shame I can't post 10 stars!! Not your normal hotel experience, so unique & just oozes quality. Staff are brilliant, on hand if you need them, are so friendly & helpful, rooms/shared areas are well designed, with no expense spared in the facilities. Make sure you use the shared areas that include a kitchen that can be used 24/7, 2 roof terraces that have been designed for you just to have a chill out & so quiet even though you are just off a busy main street. A must stay, right in the heart of Penang with plenty of places to eat & drink very close by. A true oasis in the middle of what can be a hectic place.

Very good location! All the popular eateries are within 10 mins walking distant. Staff are friendly and they have good recommendation. Place is well designed, there's a living room for you to meet with other traveller! I won't suggest this place if travelling with old people; stairs is a problem for them!

Location- great as in accessible to all attractions, if you are beer lover, this place hv good vibe, all angmo gather at this area Room- good side>> Bedding is super comfy and clean. Aircon is strong. We booked a small room and the bathroom is just next to the bed but they use curtain to separate out the area (smart one)! Room come with Samsung smart TV, shower rope. You have to remove your shoes at the main door. Down side>> room 101 is facing the main road! For those who have light sleep, please reconsider! As mentioned, the place have many bars, Friday and Saturday night are crazily noisy and last until 2-3am! Thanks god Sunday night is quiet but Monday morning is super noisy as well! Service- I only saw cleaning staffs around, you can use their kitchen and dining area, they provide sharing fridge and water dispenser.

The hotel is built on second & third floor of an old building. The location is nearby old George road street, which got alot of bar and restaurant around. For the hotel room, it is clean and well maintained. Big television, cold aircond, only there is no door but a curtain to separate bathroom and bed which is quite strange to me. In night, beware there might be noise come from the nearby bar. That is a coffee shop "The Mug Coffee" around 400m from the hotel, if you are caffeine person, you can buy their coffee in the morning.

One of the best hotels to stay and immerse in the city’s night life. The hotel staffs are very accommodating. Shoutout to Redho and colleague for the amazing hospitality! From the first day itself, the hotel has been very pleasing to the eyes and soul. Very comfortable and pretty. I love the outdoor settings upstairs. It was a lovely stay. Life’s very hectic but coming to penang and staying in Tien was wonderful!

I really loved the decoration of the place and the furnitures are really pretty, makes you feel cozy. My 4 star is due to the very hight price, for which I would appreciate breakfast included, and the lack of elevator to the top floor, with my luggage it was a real problem to get around.

I had a wonderful experience at Tien Hotel. The room was clean and very comfortable. The staff went over and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting George Town in Penang.

Incredible place to stay with great amenities and ambience. Plus, the location is unbeatable! It's right in the center of everything you would want to do in Georgetown. Highly recommend making a reservation with them.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The location is excellent - right in the middle of the active zone of old Georgetown. While this means it can be a bit noisy, the rooms are well protected from the sounds of bars and traffic. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The room was very modern, clean and comfortable. I'd highly recommend staying at Tien if you're visiting Georgetown.

This place is so preety and luscious. Hotel is super convenient, close to awesome night places just a walk away like the Pokok for live band. And if you walk to the left you get to buy authentic nyonya kuihs at Moh Teng Pheow in the morning. Superb. Less one star because there is no water bidet at the toilet. The toilet is being designed western style where you just gotta use toilet paper to just wipe 😅

We couldn't expect better in Penang : quiet, comfy, decorated with taste and cute swimming pool on the roof! Special thanks to the lovely staff that made us feel at home 🙏

You don't expect it to be nice and comfortable upstairs when u see the entrance. Like their common space, the pantry and the garden, just outside of pantry. Wonderful experience.

A great boutique hotel at the very cool location of Chulia Street! Hotel rooms, especially the suites are very nice. Thought a bit pricy, however, it definitely worth it!

Disappointing experience. I had made a reservation well in advance for a 4 day stay, only to have my booking abruptly canceled without any proper explanation or alternative arrangements provided. The lack of communication and assistance from the hotel was extremely frustrating, leaving me scrambling to find suitable accommodation at short notice. This unexpected change in plans caused inconvenience, stress, and disrupted my vacation. Moreover, the cancellation lacked any form of apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused. It's disheartening to see such a lack of professionalism and customer service. This incident has shaken my trust and confidence in their ability to handle reservations and provide satisfactory service. I cannot overlook the impact it had on my travel plans. I encourage potential guests to exercise caution and consider alternative options until the hotel demonstrates improvement in their customer service.

This hotel is located in the bar and restaurant area and is situated across the junction a pub that plays loud music with strong beats until 1:30am. Do not stay there if you want to have a quiet place. Also, there’s no front desk and late visitors may ring the bell. On the first night of my stay, someone rang the bell 5 times after 1:30am. I ended up having to move because of the lack of sleep. When I whatsapped the staff (who was the only one with a WhatsApp number; the other contact, who’s the manager, is only accessible by a local phone number, and there was not a phone in the room or anywhere in the hotel that could be used), the response was slow, because the hotel was short staffed and the on-the-ground staff had to cover a couple of properties and seemed overworked. When that staff told me to meet the manager the next afternoon as she would be there, I found that she was NOT there at all after I had waited for 20 minutes. When I finally checked out and got back my deposit of MYR100 (by the way this was the only property out of the 3 hotels I stayed in Penang that asked for a deposit), I wasn’t repaid the few MYR I paid for the govt tax for the next couple of nights. I did manage to get a refund of the remaining nights, but in the process the manager was slow in her response as if she didn’t care or want to address my questions. To be fair, the hardware and location of this hotel is great, but with so many options out there, do think twice before you book this hotel.

I loved it! The pool on the rooftop is really cozy. The rooms are modern, clean and very beautyful! Definitely worth it & 100% recommended. It is located in the city center, there are loads of restaurants nearby.

Lovely boutique hotel in the middle of Georgetown. Well designed comfy rooms and nice common spaces. Friendly and courteous staff. Probably one of the best locations in Georgetown. Plenty of great restaurants, cafes, bars and street art all within a few minutes walk. Will come back again next time I’m in Penang.

This was a great place to stay. Right in the centre of the action amongst the hawker stalls of Chulia Street and with Love Lane around the corner for drinks. Lots of quality cocktail bars and restaurants nearby too. But rest assured, you'll get a good night's sleep. The rooms are clean, modern and very comfortable with small touches in the room to make it a relaxing stay. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We couldn't have asked for a better stay!

Impeccable service on our stay from 5 to 8 February 2022. The hotel interior is well thought of with modern and retro fittings. Black coffee/tea is provided throughout the stay. Comfortable indoor space with complete pantry, and outdoor space, if you plan to work. Staff were extremely kind to allow us, who were working during the vacation, reasonable late checkout. Thanks to the Owner, Attawan, and the staff who made our stay worry free.

The best hotel ever stayed . Romantic feel rooms. Open bathroom , 60" curved tv with netflix included. Very2 friendly staffs. Swimming pool on roof. The building looks old but when you checkout the inside hotel its sooooo cool and you will be amazed.

When you get out from the taxi you do not expect that much good quality hotel around. Hotel was clean, you can also taste local breakfast there. It is close to the certain touristic attractions, you can visit them by walk.

For a boutique hotel we had a great and enjoyable stay. Room was spacious clean and had great facilities. Manager was very nice too. Only things I’d point out is the toilet bidet is impossible to use, very hard to press and once done, water spurts out like a machine gun. It’s also located right in the middle of a very happening area so expect some music and commotion from outside at night. For parking you’d have to utilize a small makeshift space on the right loosely managed by a cohort of old “uncles”. Let them know you’re staying with Tien and try communicating in Mandarin, canto or a local dialect. They are not great at English, Right below Tien at the corner coffee shop is the best pork rice you can get. Make sure to try that out

We loved our stay at Tien. The manager was incredible and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. She also gave us many great tips about the area which made our stay very enjoyable. The hotel is beautifully designed, with clean and stylish rooms, a lovely courtyard and plunge pool in a great location. Thank you for making our stay so memorable!

Nice Hotel to stay for a reasonable price! It is like a pearl shell, not attracting from the outside but a shiny pearl on the inside. The Hotel is clean and comfy. The staff is really friendly and had some good recommendations 👍🏼 It is on Chulia Street which is crowded with bars and pubs but its also quite central so you can reach almost everything by walking.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in. Incresibly high standard of furnishings, fantastic location. Lovely rooftop and plunge pool. It's up a stair case on the main road but very quiet inside. Staff and communication with them was perfect.

This is an amazing hotel, great rooms, great staff, great price and great location. There is honestly nothing to complain about. The hotel had a cozy and modern atmosphere, and they even managed to put in a pool on the roof! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. When we left the hotel we had to check out before the normal breakfast, so they made sure we had breakfast in the fridge to bring with us. Also extra points to Rynald who was super friendly and helpful. He set up an hour long meeting with us where he helped us plan our trip over to borneo, made a whole map as to where to go and when so we could manage to see as much as possible with the time we had. He even called his friends who live there and asked them for tips! I have never stayed at a hotel where someone helped their customers so much as he did here. He didn't even try to make us stay longer in George Town, since he thought we would enjoy Borneo now that we had seen George Town, which shows that he cared more about our experience in Malaysia than just making money. 100% recommend!! Thank you for making our stay in Malaysia so amazing
