Recommended by my brother, he had stayed at the other hotel owned by the same owner. This is a boutique hotel, with antique decor. It’s renovation is British colonel style with oriental touch. They provide all room amenities, nice thick towel, hair dryer, coffee and tea. The water pressure is strong, good shower. Surprisingly they only served breakfast at 8am. Perhaps they only target tourists.

Lovely small hotel. Rooms are very traditional and charming in keeping with the history. . Very Clean and comfy bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Agree breakfast could be improved but yogurt coffee and toast available everyday. My only small negative was the WiFi very slow but don't let that put you off staying here. Some great restaurants very close to hotel too..

Great location in the centre of George Town. An 8 rooms only vintage hotel. Beautiful old fashion Courtyard right in the centre of the property. Road facing rooms (Superior) tends to be noisy, rooms are non sound proof. Rooms at the back (Deluxe) are quiet. Towels are worn out. Simple amenities provided. Simple breakfast such as bread or nasi lemak, steam broccoli, yogurt provided. Free flow coffee all day.

For a three-star hotel, Nam Keng Hotel can be considered the pinnacle among its peers that I've encountered. It's located on a small street in the heart of Penang's old town, making it entirely possible to explore the old town on foot. Moreover, under the scorching sun of Penang, one can always return to their room for a rest whenever they feel tired. The hotel rooms are small but clean, especially with the central air conditioning, which is very quiet. The breakfast is simple and monotonous, there are basically no options, one can get full but not necessarily satisfied. The staff are very friendly and enthusiastic. Compared to five-star hotels that are less conveniently located from the old town, I prefer this type of hotel that not only guarantees decent living conditions but also offers more convenience in travel, and moreover, it's not expensive. Now about the drawbacks. The room facing street still picks up music from nearby bars and noise from motorcycles passing by. After eating the same breakfast for three days, patience is wearing thin, and by the fourth day, the desire to even look at it disappears.

Loved the hotel and the service, however the room facing the street has the issue of hearing very loud music until midnight due to the bar that's opened up. Something not in the control of the hotel but made the stay a bit more uncomfortable. The breakfast is the same every day and I personally loved it, but others might find the same thing annoying. They also spotted that we had mosquito spray in our room and provided mosquito repellant for the room without us asking which was amazing.

Hotel is 3 stars but service is 5 stars...Great hospitality and staff. Only downside is the stairs. Reduced one star for the noise. Super noisy bar. ❌ Added one star back for the free earbuds and attentive staff who helped me when I told him about the noisy bar. ✅

The hotel is located in the center of Georgetown and very convenient to walk to most of the places in Georgetown, the room is old Chinese style and it is very clean and comfortable, the staff are very friendly and helpful, it’s a wonderful experience living here!

It's our second time staying in this hotel. We loved everything about it. The location is great, right smack in Georgetown, with plenty of excellent food options nearby e.g. Food Streets, such as Chulia and Kimberley, are just minutes away. The room is spacious and clean. We were given a room on the second floor. The bed is comfortable. The shower area is spacious and clean. We slept really well. Even when the mosque nearby called out for the morning prayer at 6am, we were awoken, but we could go back to sleep. The service is efficient and friendly. They attended to our needs promptly and always with a smile. Highly recommended.

If you are looking for a heritage, comfortable, great looking boutique hotel in George Town, Nam Keng is the place to go. It's superbly located, and the staff are very friendly. The rooms are nicely decored and even if its been around for a few years, the rooms and toilet are well maintained. Highly recommended.

Great litter hotel in middle of everything. We stayed here for 2 nights and happily walked around for good foods, arts. Tai Tong Dim Sum and Tek Sen restaurant were just walking distance as well as all street food. Room was super clean, equipped with all necessary toiletries. I would recommend this place for those who enjoy eating and walking to explore street arts. Hotel receptionist was very kind to tell you more details about their surrounding area.

This hotel is beautifully outfitted in a heritage building and is in a fantastic location in the old part of George Town. The room was lovely and very comfortable, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The complimentary breakfast, though simple, was also delicious. Highly recommend this hotel to any traveller! One note: there is a noisy bar nearby, which we could hear at night on Friday and Saturday. This is not the hotel’s fault, but would suggest bringing earplugs if staying on weekends.

Beautiful, quiet. I got a room with courtyard on the ground floor, worth the extra penny. Check prices before booking, hotel's website is cheaper than agoda/booking.com. it's also more than rm100 cheaper than walk in rate, so plan your travel!

Great little boutique hotel (8 rooms only) on a street just off the happening Chulia strip. Our standard king was a little compact but cosy, well appointed and spotless. Despite being on street level it was very quiet and we enjoyed a restful sleep on comfortable bedding and linens. Breakfast was a simple buffet spread comprising a good mix of continental and local fare. Staff was friendly and personable; wifi was fast and there was a decent selection of cable tv channels. Easy walking access to eateries, pubs and many street attractions.

Fantastically located boutique hotel. All GT key points are available by foot from there. It's very clean, spacious comfortable rooms with comfortable beds. Beautiful interior and a very intimate atmosphere. Perfect for visiting George Town. They served local breakfast but you can easily find a nice food everywhere outside. Staff is kind and helpfull. Price is good point of this hotel.

Excellent stay in the heart of heart of Penang, George Town which is a heritage town. This is a small,8 room hotel which was an old shop house- probably over 100 years old, converted to a boutique hotel. Rooms are just spacious enough and well furnished. The wooden furniture adds a particular charm and decor. The room, linen, toilets are clean. The hotel has a small cafe which is now closed due to covid but there are many eating places around the hotel. The chulia road comes to life in the evening and this is a convenient place to enjoy the night life. Very close to bus stops and ferry points and walkable to almost all attractions and shopping centres including KOMTAR. Convenient buses are available to the beaches and other attractions. The service is friendly and prompt. Both the front office staff, boy and girl are both pleasant and helpful. Will surely come back to stay the next time in Penang.

Lovely boutique hotel, quiet and comfortable. Great location with easy access to markets, restaurants and bars. Staff were very helpful, made us feel welcome and helped with transport and tours. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Very nice boutique heritage hotel. Restoration done very well 5 stars. Detail was put into every aspect to maintain heritage. Rooms small, but overall comfortable. Beds are firm with hot showers. Need to switch on the hot water heater. Breakfast is small treat of penang peranakan desserts and savoury stuff Street food just bought from local stalls. Small portions just right. Well worth the visit to stay here. Staff friendly. We arrived late and receptionist was waiting for us at counter. 8 rooms only. Second floor rooms no elevator are larger. High ceilings make the room more comfortable.

Quiet boutique hotel due to pandemic period but I really like the room that I booked which is clean and balloon decoration for birthday complimentary. This boutique hotel looks gorgeous with the painting but not really recommend for having the breakfast at here due to very normal breakfast but still overall is fine.

Great hotel in Penang! If you're looking for a stay in Penang with a great location that's walk-friendly to most tourist destinations of the city, with fantastic rooms (with a hint of Baba Nyonya vibes), and top notch service, then this is the right place for you to stay!

There are many historical and boutique hotels in Georgetown but only a few are worthwhile to stay in. The Nam Keng is a small hotel in an old shop house that is nicely renovated, has very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and fast WiFi. The location is close to the tourist attractions. Pubs and restaurants are in walking distance but far enough to have a good sleep.

Amazing service from the staff from check-in, throughout our stay, and to check-out. Historically restored townhouses with modern amenities and comfortable rooms. Superbly maintained and quiet for being right in the middle of George Town. Location was central and within walking distances to multiple attractions. Highly recommended hotel for those looking to experience old world charm with comfort and friendly service.

A very nice and very quiet hotel. The rooms are big enough, and I have a view of the street and plenty of light. I would definitely come back here. I'm in room 203. There's lots to see and do around here in the old part of Georgetown. A simple breakfast is served, don't expect anything too fancy, but that's what the street cafes are for.

Nice small hotel. Like the design. Staffs are kind. Good location, not far from morning market and night market. Although breakfast is included, I would recommend to eat at the morning market.

Excellently located & authentic antique hotel in the heart of Penang. The staff, especially Taran, were soooo friendly and were probably the best part of our experience! They gave us plenty of great recommendations for good food near the hotel (like Hameediyah) and beyond! Breakfast of roti canai was delicious too. Would definitely come back here again - felt like home.

Among three nights stay in Penang in three different hotels, this is the best hotel. Overall the hotel is clean and well maintained. The room is not large but neat. The room has a strong Aircon, the bathroom is neatly laid out with good shower water pressure. The shower gel, shampoo and body lotion is so nice that I use it(normally I don't because most of the time they are lousy). The towels are clean and not worn out like the other two hotels I stayed at. Their breakfast is simple yet very nice. Love they prepare in small bite sizes so I can try different food without food waste. The staff there are very quiet but friendly. If you are looking for a pleasant hotel experience, this is the hotel for you.

Excellent hotel in the Peranakan style, tastefully renovated, with super friendly staff and charm. The only issue is the Internet, which isn’t always fast. They offer airport pickup and drop off, which will save you the hassle of a a bus when there are no taxis running at the airport.

This hotel is such a lovely gem in the heart of Penang. A beautifully renovated heritage house, with comfortable beds, kind staff and just a couple of rooms. They provided daily cleaning in excellent quality and always gave bottled water. There are only 2 drawbacks but you can live with these: the wifi is truly very poor, basically you can barely use it. However there is an ethernet port in the room, and reception is happy to provide a cable for you and with that internet is fine. Also the hotel is just behind the mosque so most probably you are going to wake up in the morning for the prayers. Nevertheless, amazing place, I would stay here again!

Super charming hotel right in the center of Georgetown. The rooms are decorated with taste and are spotless. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the 4 nights we spent there, thank you very much!

We love the convenience of where the hotel is situated because we could walk to many popular touristy places! Although small, but the room is not too cramped! It’s cosy and the overall design is lovely :) We enjoyed their mini breakfast buffet too + the receptionist Taren (hope I spelled his name correctly) was so welcoming and helpful! He wrote down a list of all the good food places to venture to and always greeted us with so much warmth and energy! Overall, extremely pleased with our 3d2n stay at Nam Keng! 😊😊😊

Great location, lovely property with a homely feeling (with a courtyard), good variety of breakfast topped with excellent customer service makes this property more than worth a stay. We stayed for 3 nights and all the key areas to visit in Georgetown are within 10 -15 mins walk with access to the main street 2 mins away. Room and bathroom are very clean, modern with the heritage touch. Highlight was the staff and their customer service with an attitude to help us in every possible way.

A great place to lay low for some days. The location is good, next to hawker stalls, close to little india. The rooms are clean, spaceous. Bathrooms are clean and daily room service is included. The staff is available 24/7, helpful and friendly. There is a mosque nearby, prayer calls in the morning can be loud, bring ear plugs and it's no issue. Overall a good experience

Now this is really a fine place to stay in Penang. Lockated in a quiet sidestreet in Georgetown one can reach easily the various sights of George Town by foot. The rooms are spacious and furnished with old style furniture, which makes the stay there quote unique. The beds are very comfortable. The receptionists extremely helpfull. I will surely stay there again at my next Trip to Penang

Nam Keng Hotel’s location is great as it is within walking distance to everything - street food, cafe, malls, street art and other tourist spots. At the same time, it is on a relatively quiet street. Hotel building has lovely Peranakan features and the room is clean & adequately-sized with high ceilings, clean and everything important to me works well (wifi, aircon, water heater & pressure and blackout curtains!) 😘 Bed mattress is firm with soft pillows. Breakfast was a plate of ham & sausage, scrambled eggs, mushroom, tomato and a lovely selection of local desserts (Nyonya kueh, samosa & vadai). Above all, we had friendly and thoughtful hotel staff (Santhiran, Tharan and Priya) who gave excellent recommendations on places to visit and eat at.

Excellent hotel. Located right in the middle of all the famous eating shops n restaurants. The room is clean, the double bed is comfortable, the aircon temperature is just nice n the water pressure is excellent. Will definitely stay here again when I’m back in Penang.

Top notch service. From the front desk up to the room. Didn't expect 5 star service from a small hotel. And I haven't even talk about the rooms & halls decorations. Really made you feel like you're in the 80's chinatown luxury vibe. 5/5 would come again! Thank you for making our stay memorable 😊👍🏻 P/s: parking is really tough to get. I would recommend dropping your luggage, then proceed to park at TnG area (around 100m distance) during the day; while night time, no problem parking at the side of shoplots.

  • 5/5 Denna A. 1 year ago on Google
Nam Keng has such outstanding service provided by their excellent staffs, especially Priya, the hotel receptionist. I was never their guest there but an incident took place at Nam Keng Hotel and my safety at that time was in jeopardy. Priya bravely tackled the situation and everything ended well. I applaud Nam Keng Hotel for having such admirable staffs especially someone like Priya. Awesome experience, and I shall make an effort to stay at Nam Keng Hotel one day!
