I highly recommend it to those traveling to Georgetown. You should never miss this attraction. Entrance fee is affordable at RM20 per adult and totally worth the price. We visited at 10am during a public holiday and just in time for a mandarin tour at 10.30am which is very informative. The mansion is so large that it is hardly noticeable from the outside, and I might have missed some areas without a guided tour. In addition, there are many antiques that are meticulously displayed. I really appreciate the effort of the current owner to preserve this historical and cultural heritage, and presented to the public.

Impressive is how I would call this historical mansion. It shows you the grandeur and magnificence of how the rich and famous used to live in Georgetown. From custom sculptures to imported iron posts from Scotland to their own personal temple and a gigantic kitchen, this is a mansion that'll surely leave an impression

It is such a beautiful place jam packed with so much history. The mansion is so huge, you would definitely need to take your time to explore. Bonus: there is a souvenir shop tucked in the back of the mansion. The staff was very friendly and gave us a free short tour of the mansion before we began exploring. The antiques and furniture were well maintained. There are many helpful info boards all around, you just have to keep your eyes out for it. The restoration of the building was done fantastically, making the mansion come to life

This is one of the must visit places when in Penang. It's a historical house that a rich Chinese businessman had built in the late 1800s early 1900s. The businessman was so rich that he also built a Chinese Temple next door, as well as a separate museum, with a dining room and kitchen buildings at the rear. A lovely mansion that is well furnished with beautiful furnishings, and easily takes you back to yesteryear. The Temple, museum and the kitchen are also worth visiting and are all included in the one entry price of 25RM as at Oct 2023. I visited during the off-peak season and it was somewhat busy, but in peak season it could possibly be crowded. The buildings are air-conditioned and this makes for an excellent atmosphere and encourages taking the time to view all that is on display. Allow between 1-3 hours to see everything depending on how much time you wish to spend taking in the great experience and looking at all the wonderful features, details and displays. The history of how he made his fortune, including tin mining, is also interesting and worth reading about. Excellent attraction. Enjoy.

Visited the mansion in the afternoon. We reached the mansion pretty late so it was near closing time. However, we made it for the last tour of the day (English version). The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the history and architecture of the mansion. He showed us and explained to us interesting facts and trivia about various designs and purposes. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

Entrance fee is rm25. Worth the trip and the price. You ALSO get free access to the Georgetown Mansion with the receipt you bought here since they just opened up and doing promotions to attract more tourist. The place is pretty big and has lots to see and read. Many good photoshoot spots. There are English and Chinese tour guides included that start every now and then or when the group is big enough.

We initially came here to beat the afternoon heat but ended up finding an educational and engaging experience. We happened to arrive in time for the 1:30pm English tour, and or guide Henry did an excellent job. The tour (included in the ticket fee, as well as entrance to three museums on the grounds) was light, fun and informative, giving just the right amount of detail to keep things interesting, while being open and knowledgeable enough to answer our questions. Had we toured the mansion without a guided tour, it definitely would’ve been a different experience! Jewellery, antique and/or textile buffs will love the collections here, too!

One of the things I enjoyed the most in Georgetown. The entry ticket is only 5 dollars, but it's a great value because there's a one hour guided tour in English every 30 mins. Our tour guide was a very funny Chinese gentleman who took his time to explain to us the history of the mansion in an interesting way and show us every single room. The mansion has many collectibles and rare artifacts from over 200 years ago, some of them are considered priceless. I totally recommend to add visiting this mansion to your itinerary and get the chance to immerse into it's treasures

Was in the area and came here at first just to beat the heat but had no idea we were in store for one of the BEST museum experiences ever! Our guide Stanley did an incredible job and for 68 years old, commands the english-language well, has a great sense of humour and is full of energy. Left the museum full of incredible information about the Peranakan culture and history about this home and its owners. Highly recommended! COVID-19 protocols and best practices were strictly enforced and adhered to by all making for a safe and educational experience.

Beautiful space - breath-taking and a real joy to visit. The RM20 entry fee is well worth it - it's beautifully maintained and a delight to wander in. I particularly enjoyed the central courtyard and the different tiles throughout the premises, as well as the ancestral hall and the paintings. The pictures don't do it justice - I highly highly recommend you come visit.

This place is worth visiting if you are at Georgetown! This mansion is like a living museum, so much to see and learn about the Peranakan culture and history. We were really awed by some of the displays and the interior design. We had an entertaining time when we were there, as we were hosted and showed around the mansion in a guided tour. Our tour guide Stanley, whom himself is a baba, is so knowledgeable, very funny and full of humour! There are both English and Mandarin guided tour. Stanley gave the guided tour in English. I reached here at about 10am, and I was told the guided tour will start, depending on the number of visitors at that time, usually it is arranged in alternate hours. The entrance fees are Adult RM20, Children RM10 Opening hours: 9.30am to 5pm There are limited parking spaces within the vicinity of the mansion, but you can park your car at the open carpark across the road, directly opposite this place which is chargeable.

I visited the Mansion yesterday and was fortunate to arrive just as an English language tour was starting. Our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate about the mansion, its history and the astonishing collection it holds, but was also funny and skilled as a storyteller. He easily held everyone’s attention! I’ve been traveling through SE Asia for almost three months now, and this is one of my top experiences. Where to start - the architecture, the remarkable restoration, the priceless furniture, jewelry, and overall collection within?? And all beautifully decorated for Christmas, what a treat! Don’t think twice, go! You’ll be glad you did!

The owner did a good job at refurbishing and preserving a piece of important history ! The collection was amazing. I’m really glad that I visited this place, as I finally got to see how it looks inside of a heritage building. I’m still in awe of how rich the Peranakan culture is (and also how loaded someone could be). Throughout the guided tour, it’s apparent that some riches are just unattainable 😂 Out of reach for peasants like us… Mr. Stanley was an amazing guide to us - an amazing storyteller. The storytelling was so vivid that you’ll feel as if you’ve travelled time. I’m pretty sure he’d repeated it so many times but his enthusiasm was palpable - through the clap of his hands. Loved it. Highly recommend.

With no hesitation this deserves a five star rating. Magnificent property, beautifully furnished, you can easily spend a couple of hours here. There is also a hidden Temple at the back, don't miss this. The museum which houses many precious items collected by the current owner is priceless. There is one magnificent garment, a head piece, made from the finest feathers of the Kingfisher, and many other gold and jewelled items. There are free 45 minute tours at 10.00am and 1.00pm and our guide "Stanley" was both informative and very entertaining. The entry ticket is valid all day so you can return later if you so wish. Upstairs floor not accessible for wheelchairs. This is probably the best tourist museum/house in Penang.

It's interesting to look at the house of one of those early wealthy Chinese settlement in Penang and how the living was back then. The house is well maintained. An admission fee of RM20 which includes a 30 min guided tour with a choice of either English or Mandarin. You are free to roam around after the tour. Second floor is shoes off.

It's a very historical place for you to get to know the Peranakans as this mansion keeps their heritage in tact for the present generation to ponder. You could have a glimpse of their traditions, lifestyle, customs as well as their antiques and collectible displayed in this mansion. Worth the fees you're paying for if you're interested in their history!

Our 2nd Mansion tour, after Blue Mansion was great insight of Peranakan culture. Still pretty impressed by how a rich man bought over this house & not turned into a museum. Still worth a go! Waited for the tour for a little more in-depth. If not it’ll just be viewing and looking at antiques 🏺(not sure about the tour timing, we went for the 1pm slot)

The tour guide in English was so nice and funny! Sometimes, the accent was difficult to follow as he was wearing a face cover/mask. The house is huge and lots to explore in one hour. Definitely recommend doing the free tour. Otherwise, it's hard to appreciate! What I liked most is the fact that you can sit and touch almost everything, unlike other museums. You can also go in and out as you wish all day. I highly recommend visiting. Bonus points as King Charles and Queen Consort Camila visited a few years ago, and they also do movie scenes there like Crazy Rich Asians!

Thoroughly enjoyed this visit - very highly recommended. It's a huge mansion - when we were leaving one of the guide reminded us to check out the temple, which we'd nearly missed. We thought we'd already seen everything! But the temple (and everything else) was well worth spending time in. A ticket to this mansion gets you entry into the George Town Mansion, too, which is walking distance from here.

Highly recommend for tourists to join the free English tour conducted daily at 11.30am and 3.30pm. The tour was exceptionally informative, and one would benefit so much more from joining the tour than walking around alone.

The Peranakan Mansion was full of history and you can feel it once you step into the place. We went for a guided English tour where the guide told us about the rich story behind this place. You can easily immerse yourself here for hours, the mansion is huge. You need to take off your shoes for the 2nd floor so I would recommend wearing socks.

Highly recommend a visit to this mansion and join a group with a guide in the museum that is included in the entrance ticket available in Mandarin and English. So rich in history and also gives a good visual representation of what it was like in Penang in the past. The links with China and also England, and also trade with European nations are seen in the objects and design of the mansion. Good to go a little earlier in the day as after the guided tour, there’s time to go around to take more photos and have a closer look at the extensive collections of antiques that tell their stories.

I think it's fairly an old hotel from the way it looks inside. Neat and tidy though. All amenities are available and the standard room is a good sized one. It's centrally located and near a shopping mall. There is also a moderate sized swimming pool and gym. Good for a family stay. There are many small departmental stores nearby so it's convenient if u need any quick eats or drinks. Lots of street foods just a few minutes walk away. The front desk staff are very courteous and there is also a large spacious cafe in the lobby area. Would love to come back again.

This is one of the most beautiful museums I have ever seen. You can feel the ancestors walking with you as you stroll through the mansion. It is so well preserved and the contents, stunning. We were lucky to meet a 5th generation descendent, Michael, at the entrance. What an honour, Sir. I highly recommend this museum.

RM$20 for full day admission (multiple entry is allowed according to the guide of the place). I have been to this place several times but this visit was the best because I manage to attend the free guided tour at 11am and got an enjoyable 45min English tour by Stanley. Cheerful and detailed guide. There are many fine work on exhibit and the jewel display is really impressive. A great place to visit if you are in Penang.

Review is based on pre covid experience. Very educational and interesting experience. You are able to join a group where the tour guide will then lead you thru the various part of the mansion for storytelling. After the tour group, you can stay behind to explore the mansion on your own. Ticket is valid for multiple entries. So, we went out for lunch and came back again for another visit as it is a very interesting place.

Well worth a visit. Display traditional nonya life and culture, early day Chinese migrants family. There are regular English and Chinese guided tours, inclusive in the tickey. Quite amazed by those intricate carvings and paintings -- those are easily art pieces. Quite a large space spanning many lots, both ground and 1st floors. I wish they have more writings explaining the background of displayed items. No AC so can be hot during humid days.

Absolute beauty of a house. English tour is recommended it adds so much to the experience. Built in the late 1800s. Rich Chinese lived well back then. Many masterpieces, like the kingfisher blue jewelry, all the old time Chinese artisan master craftsmanship architecture, furniture and treasures.

What a gem! To think this was a family house back in those days. The house is very big and it goes from one room to another. It was endless. After you figure out the size, then next you are amazed at the level of detailing of the architecture. So rich and layers upon layers of details. One of the hidden gems is the temple that you access behind and external alley. Most people never went there as I don’t think they even knew about it. We were there for almost 20 mins alone while others parts of the house had 10-50 people at any given time.

Very rich heritage and beautiful place! ❤️ I love taking selfies and the place is just a gem! They do have free guided tour in English or Chinese speaking. Not sure how frequent the guided tour is because I didn’t join one. I like to roam on my own and enjoy what I see:) Recommend to go at least once if you haven’t tried. RM25 for per pax.

I was in Penang for holidays and visited the Peranakan Mansion. It was slightly crowded with many foreign visitors like myself. Lucky there was a guide who speaks English and he was very knowledgeable of the history behind and also quite humourous. Mermerizing is the only word you can explain about this place. It is so well done and preserved that you will be in awe. Kudos the management as well as our guide Mr Ricky who did a wonderful job explaining the intricacies on the building and history.

A beautiful 2 storey museum housing Peranakan artifacts and antiques. Formerly the home of a 19th Century rich tycoon named Chung Keng Quee. If you are into photography, or if you simply want to experience how crazy rich asians lived back in the day, this is definitely a must go. Our full review is on Instagram (@monk3yseendo)

A must visit in Penang. The guide (Ricky) was informative and answered all my questions during the tour (included in the ticket). Several hours can be spent here fast. I really enjoyed it and knew more about Malaysian Chinese and Malaysia.

It is a "must visit place" when in Penang if you are interested in the local culture and people. Amazing collection of fascinating objects, beautifully presented in a superb house, exceptionally well restoured. It was a delight to visit and the English speaking guide Ricky made this experience unforgettable. It was a delight, and at only 20 ringgits, an absolute bargain. Strongly recommended.

An excellent place to learn the colourful history of Pinang Peranakan Malaysia. It will take you back to 200 years back in time. Lots of real historical goods on display.

The rm 20 ticket is worth it because the owner has expanded the museum with antique gold jewelry, porcelain and kebaya collections which must have worth over million dollar ringgit. It was a great 1 hour trip and it is truly a unesco heritage experiences with great guide and the architechture is amazing.

The Pinang Peranakan Mansion has a beautiful and extensive display of precious items, and the tour guide Stanley, did a remarkable job. Even though it was his day off, he was kind enough to give us a tour of the place. Thanks so much Stanley! We really enjoyed the tour and visiting this beautifully restored mansion.

This is a 19th century mansion built by Chung Keng Quee, wealthy business man during his days. After his death, it was passed down to his descendants and later was bought by property developers who converted this to a Musuem showcasing the artifacts, antiques of Peranakan. It's part of UNESCO world heritage site, showcasing the architectural style used in 1890s ,which abundantly allows natural light and air into the building. Mansion has huge collection of items, almost overwhelming the space its kept in. There are free guided tours of 45mins length in English and Chinese , which are good to give first level of information about the Mansion. It would have been better if there is more information to read about the stuff. It's infact like a collection of antiques rather than a musuem. We can easily spend 2-3 hours roaming in the mansion, clicking beautiful pictures. Natural lighting and the colour contrast of antiques, makes the place more attractive. Entry fee is 20rm for adult.

beautiful piece that preserves and showcases peranakan history. there's a free tour guide at designated times so try to come around that time, when i came the next tour guide was at 2:30pm. you can explore on your own but there's not much information board available. better to come by grab/walk as there's not much parking space available. kids ticket at rm10.

Excellent example of a typical rich merchants home - full of antiques & access to so many rooms. There are English speaking guides at certain times of the day. Fantastic collection and definitely a house to visit. If short on time go here as opposed to blue mansion where very limited access due to it being a hotel & cheaper entry fee here. Also has a cafe & gift shop.

One ticket is really valuable because you can enter another Gorge town mansion with it also. This mansion is enormous. It may take one to two hours to tour around. You could adore this place if you enjoy antiques. It is excellent.

Old building from the 19th century with lots of antiques and old but valuable furniture and decorations. The mansion is allowed to take pictures, many girls rented the Nyonya costumes and wore them to take pictures inside the Mansion. You may rent Nyonya clothes at the shop/restaurant(Nyonya Palazzo) located opposite the mansion.

Pinang Peranakan Mansion is basically a baba nyonya museum where they display all the heritage northern baba nyonya antiques, jewelry, clothes, history and so on. The best historical museum you can find in Penang and one of the favorite spot for movies filming as well. Worth to go and join the tour guide whereby they will bring you around the mansion and explain the history behind it. The culture were influenced by local Malays, Burma, thais, Chinese and British.

They offer various languages upon entering the place for a quick tour, and you could spend the rest of the time there taking photos or even enjoying the delicacies they have to offer. It is not exactly like a museum, but the antique collector tries to stuff his collection there so everyone can have the opportunity to witness some of these things that you might not be able to see elsewhere. I would say a good place to really take your time and go through the delicate things they have to offer, snap away as much as you could to pay back the quite expensive entry ticket 🎟 with no exception to Senior citizens.

There’s a free English & Mandarin guided tour that starts every hour on the hour and it lasts about 45mins. Highly recommend the tour! After the tour you can take your time to explore the museum & take pics. I’d recommend coming early as well as the tour buses start coming in around 11am & the place will get pretty crowded.

It’s a must go if you come to Penang! Love the nostalgic vibe and so grateful to had a tour guide here yesterday! Some items looked normal in the first sight only after the tour I could know that’s so many details inside!

While we still had time in Penang, my wife and I decided to visit this museum. A guide narrated the origins of this mansion, built by a Captain from China who became very wealthy through his business endeavors in Penang. The mansion is impressively large and showcases an extraordinary blend of Malay and Chinese culture in Penang. It was fascinating to see the antique belongings of the family. We thoroughly enjoyed touring the mansion. It feels like one of the best attractions in Penang; I highly recommend visiting here if you're in the area.

What used to be a private mansion is now a museum dedicated to the Peranakan culture of Penang. The museum is beautifully furnished with over 1,000 antiques. Don't forget to visit the impressive temple dedicated to the Chinese tycoon who once owned the mansion. The temple is accessible via a doorway from the museum. Overall, a unique and immersive experience of a bygone era.

Really interesting place and the man who gave us the guided tour was great. It was pretty busy with large groups of Chinese and people having photo shoots. WARNING- you cannot pay by card if you are paying for one person admission!
