If you want dine in here, better make reservations if possible. Else you have to wait the queue for it. This place has been the greatest place for dinner to local as well visitors. The staffs are friendly and responsive fast although they are superb busy. They patiently explain and take orders. After the warm and hot queue, having a glass of soy bean with jelly grass drink was refreshing. 😊 The food is served fast and all ready at the same time. Today the staff keep recommending the burger and we tried it. It is awesome. It is good if you come in large group and can order and shared. The queue is still long even after we done our dinner.

Yummy local dishes. Place was bustling with alot of tourists. We were able to get in on Thurs evening 6pm for early dinner without any reservation but a long queue formed behind us soon after. It is recommended to reserve if you want to dine at normal meal times. Favourite dishes of the night was the fire roast pork.

Been going to this place over the years and the food quality has still remained of top notch. Seafood is fresh, service is fast and food is deliciously good. There's always a queue during peak lunch and dinner hours, try to make reservations earlier if you can, but if you're willing to wait for a short time then avoid the rush hour.

I had a low expectation of this place considering it is famous with tourists, it turned quite good and delicious. For me it is worth the wait, as need to queue for roughly 15-30mins. The staffs were quite talkative, verbal communication was good. The serving time was also quite fast. On the evening we went, they also asked whether we wanted to try their cheeseburger, turned out really good.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the food here! ❤️🧡💛💚💙 Really thanks to my local Penang friends recommendation. They have wide range of menu and everything seems yummy so you will have a hard time deciding what to order. 😅 - Sweet & Sour pork is amazing! Crunchy and tender inside with a very well balanced sauce. I repeat 2nd plate. - Lala is very very small but surprisingly they taste sweet. - Fried Roasted Pork is also great and goes really well with the rice. - Sambal Four Seasons Beans with Prawns is one of my favorite. Not too spicy yet has a strong sambal fragrant. - 鹹蛋苦瓜 Bitter gourd with salted egg is also my favorite! It has lots of egg yolk + minced pork. Goes really well with rice. SO SO: - Assam Fish was just alright. The gravy seems a little thin and lack of flavor. -Assam Prawn, the sauce is quite yummy but the shell sticked to the prawn and hard to remove. - FuRong omelette was standard. Overall we were all very satisfied with the dinner here and definitely will be back!!!

The service is quite well organized, efficient and fast. The dishes are very tasty. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, the belacan fried chicken (crispy outside, tender and juicy inside) and the roasted pork (sweet salty and chewy texture). My parents really enjoy their lunch, although they have to wait half an hour standing under the hot weather, they quickly made new friends while waiting in line. We really enjoyed our lunch experience and would love to try other dishes as well.

Great local join! This place is all hustle and bustle - food is tasty with great chef favourites. Price is very reasonable. Open for lunch and dinner but closed in between. Make sure to come early as tables are taken up quickly with both locals and travellers.

You can get authentic Penang food here. Their stir fry roasted pork is the best. Pricing here is a bit expensive but is definitely worth it. Overall the toilet is clean, staff is friendly, and most importantly is comfortable.

Really delicious! Recommended to try the double roasted pork and the tamarind prawns. They were really good. The drinks were great as well! The staff is polite even though the restaurant was packed and busy. Price is also reasonable.

We waited for almost an hour to be seated. It must be good since the queue was so long. The food was not bad, nice zhi-char style. Except for the last dish, deep fried squid. Not very fantastic when we ate it. 4 out of 5 of us ate it and all 4 had mild food poisoning the next morning with diarrhea and vomiting. We had to stay indoor whole day on our 3rd day of holiday. This was a small episode of our encounter in Penang.

A very famous eatery among tourists from all over. U will never get to dine without a queue during dinner hours. I'm a Penangite, but i still love having my meals here. I choose to have lunch instead to skip the queue. It's still crowded, but there's more possibility of getting a table without waiting. They have a lot of recommended dishes. My all-time must order is their tamarind prawn. It's huge & very fresh, fully coated with the tamarind sauce. The flavour is so good. Another dish that won't go missing will be the curry stingray. It's definitely good to go with rice. The sambal potato leaves look simple, but it's the star of all. The sambal taste is very strong & fragrant. Fried together with pork lard, it brings out the taste even more. I've also tried many other dishes, but today it's these 3. Just 2 of us cannot order too much. You will always get a satisfying meal here. Their service is also good. Though crowded, they have sufficient staff on the floor, so u will get attended quite fast. Waiting time for dishes to be served is acceptable, not too long considering the crowd. Prices are on the higher side, but u will get quality food, so it's worth the money u pay.

Today, I finally got to taste the meals at this always-crowded restaurant. As a vegetarian, I opted for their vegetable soup paired with steamed rice, accompanied by a hot Milo. The waitress, an aunty, was exceptionally kind, polite, and helpful in selecting a soup that suited my vegetarian preferences. Kudos to her! I arrived at 11:40 am, and within 30 minutes, the restaurant started to fill up. It serves Chinese cuisine and also offers cold beer for those interested.

Good chinese food, deserved the Michelin for sure, reasonable price. Wait quite long after we order, that's probably one of the reason there is always a queue outside during normal lunch or dinner time. Packed with tourist from all over the world.

Average environment and there are too many tourists there waiting to be served. A little bit noisy if you are looking for a place to have a quiet talk with your friends. Most foods are typical Chinese dishes and are not too pricy. If you haven’t tried Chinese food in Malaysia, this place will not let you down, at least. It’s acceptable.

Great food, but be prepared to queue. Went for dinner, arrived 15 mins before it opens but the line has stretched quite a bit. Ended up queueing for about an hour. But it was worth it! Everything was so delicious and fresh, especially the pork with chilli padi. Sweet, spicy, fatty, goes perfect with warm white rice. The fish curry also stood out to me as it's also very refreshing and not heavy like your typical curry. Soup was also excellent! The other dishes we ordered were also wonderful, fried chicken was piping hot and crispy when it arrived. Atmosphere can be a bit chaotic and hot but it's part of the dining experience.

Truly an amazing restaurant that’s been in business for over 60 years. This was our favourite budget meal in Penang coming out to $50 USD for 6 people. We all ordered the items highlighted with “hearts” on the menu. Our favorites were the stir fried veggies, silky steamed tofu with shrimp and sprouts, fried chicken with plum sauce, and double roasted pork. We also tried the prawns with tamarind sauce which was delightful. The only dish we could have done without was the stingray curry. You won’t regret coming here!

[holiao] 1) overall - clean environment, spacious seating area, expect queue during peak hours, limited parking, reasonable price, Chinese food offered by Tek Sen Restaurant 2) Double roasted pork tasted so good, the pork was caramelised with all the sweetness and it was good to pair with many bowls of rice :P 3) Buddha's delight aka lo hai jai tasted above average, the smell and the taste of the fermented bean curd used for cooking was top, portion was just alright for the table of 10 4) assam tumis (curry) grouper fish fillet was again so good, not as spicy as it looked, the fish fillet was very fresh, hence, the broth was equipped with the fishes sweetness 5) braised pork belly with preserved vegetable was alright 6) fried bittergourd with egg was special, the runny eggs with not-so-flavorable bittergourd was surprisingly welcomed by the kids as the bitterness of the bittergourd was completely washed off by the cooking skills. marvelous 7) deep fried homemade tofu with light soy sauce and local dried anchovy topping was my favourtie. superb taste, must order! crispy tofu skin, but so soft from the inside. the mixture of crispiness of anchovy and softest tofu in your mouth with lightly salted soy sauce was not jokingly good.

Came by for lunch - arrived around 12.15. There was no queue when we got there but it was starting to build up when we left. Must have - their double cooked pork w chilli 😋 it wasn't spicy at all, the chilli just added another kick to the dish as a whole. Spent about 300 for 10 of us.

One of the most famous establishment in Penang serving traditional Chinese food. Queue was long but moves pretty quickly and you can order whilst queuing. The food tasted like home cook food which is great! It was reasonably priced too for the portion you are getting. Food - 9 Service - 8 Vibe - 9 Price - $$

Favorite Chinese restaurant in Penang! The stir fried kangkung with sambal and prawn has flavors unlike any other place, sooo addictive and delicious. The double roasted pork belly is to die for, perfectly caramelized on the outside, cut in bite sized pieces for the ultimate satisfaction. Another must try is the Nyonya fish head, with generous amount of fish meat and amazing Nyonya curry. Love how they elevate simple everyday dishes with such flavor (and a ton of wok hei of course). Prices are very reasonable too. No wonder it’s always popular and loved by locals and tourists alike.

The portion size is quite large, which means you get a lot of food for your money. Not only that, but the food is incredibly fresh and bursting with delicious flavors. Every bite is a delightful experience for your taste buds. It's definitely worth the 30 minutes you might have to wait in line to get your hands on this amazing food.

Serves very tasty food. Fried chicken is crispy outside tender inside. Prawn and fish are fresh. The assam pedas is my favourite, sourness and spiciness just nice. Expect very long queue as it is popular among tourists and locals, thus it is advisable to make reservation beforehand. Crowded and narrow inside the restaurant, kind of noisy too. Highly recommended for its good food.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Tasted amazing good. If you’re looking for chinese food, this is legit and a must try! Trust me this is so freaking gooooddd! I’ve been their loyal customer for almost ten years. I’m from Indonesia, and everytime I visit Penang, this place will on my list. But, I do remind you to make sure come 1 hour earlier before opening or you will face a very long queue.

You have to make reservation otherwise be ready to wait in line for long time in Malaysia heat! This restaurant is popular among local and tourists. Luckily we made reservation and came on time. Service is rushed, seating is super tight, and if you’re sitting close to the door, it does get quite hot, so don’t expect a luxury experience. Price is reasonable for a sit down restaurant, but food was tasty, all local Chinese dishes, everything we ordered were good, no complaint there.

One of the two 5 stars i gave during the 4 days eating circuit in Penang. We were fortunate to have reservations. Otherwise, the amazingly long queue during Dinner would be quite a turn off. Enjoyed every dished the local host ordered for us in advance. Most remarkable were beancued in green peas gravy, steamed fish curry. Not to be missed!

Came here on a Thursday evening and it was crowded. We didn't make a reservation but turned up at the restaurant at 6pm, and were lucky to get a table for 2. We were ushered to our table quickly. We ordered some of their signature dishes, the Assam Stingray, Stir Fried Morning Glory with shrimp paste and prawns, salt and pepper squids, braised deep fried tofu with dried scallops and prawns and a plain omelette. All of the dishes were really good, the Assam Stingray was a winner for me. The broth was so flavourful, really nice to eat with rice. Price wise it was quite reasonable too. Only downside was the squid, which was very average. It's definitely worth a stop. But you need to either make a reservation beforehand or show up at the opening time.

We came to the restaurant 15 minutes after it opened and people are lining up already. We waited for awhile for our turn and the waiter lead us to our seats. The waiting for the food wasn't that long and the atmosphere in the restaurant is lively. The roasted pork was definitely the highlight of the dish! It was perfectly cooked, light amount of sweetness and tenderness. Also the kangkung really helps balance all the flavors. Overall, it's really worth the wait! Definitely will come and visit again.

First of all there was a huge line for getting in it toke us almost an hour to get a seat, when we order it toke them 15 to 20 min to bring the food to our table staff was friendly and respectful they explaining to us about the food and the portions, we order the chilli pudi fried pork which was not to my taste and it was cold when it was served, chicken with sour plum sauce was not bad nothing special, we order some vegi wasn’t that bad, Fried rice was good and delicious, but it didn’t worth the wait. The place itself was old and the chairs were supper uncomfortable.

10 days in Penang and this was an absolute standout. We first visited for lunch and were so impressed we went back for dinner a few days later. There was a long queue for dinner but the efficiency and good humour of the staff turned the wait into a piece of street theatre. The menu is huge - we went for the recommended dishes (easy to spot) both times. The double roasted pork is to die for. The vibe is busy, the service super efficient and both food and drinks are very reasonably priced.

Long before Michelin came to town, Teik Seng was already popular. I recall eating here (and the now defunct Sin Kheng Aun on Lorong Chulia) with my family as a teenager. (SKA had the most delicious Assam Pomfret - my late mum’s favourite. Mine was the Bean Sprouts with Mergui Salted Fish.) Apparently in the hands of their younger generation, TS’s popularity has increased even more, featured prominently by Tripadvisor for years now. The queues before the pandemic were already quite long. Then came Michelin’s Bib Gourmand! Surprisingly TS has embraced the recognition with savviness without sacrificing authenticity - dovetailing nicely into this personality combining the new and old. The spirit of Nanyang is still evident albeit better polished and a tad commercialised. Tonight’s dinner is part of Gastromonth Malaysia - where over 40 renowned establishments featured in the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang 2023 will present specially curated menus.

this review MIGHT ruffle some feathers but…the food here didn’t blow my hair back. THAT SAID…my mom absolutely LOVED it (especially the pork in the photo). Spicy tofu was good too. Definitely worth a try.

Super packed restaurant. A queue was formed before the restaurant was opened. Got there at 6.10 pm and had to queue to 25 minutes. Ordered 6 dishes. All were good except for the chicken with ginger and spring onion which was just OK. Our favorite dish was the 5 spice powder pork. Very flavourful with good taste. This is the third time that I am eating here. The experience during the last 2 times 5 years ago was much better. However, this is one of the restaurant that you must come to when you visit Penang.

Nice place to try famous Chinese cuisine in Penang. There's always a big line of people in front of this place. The food was good and after waiting that long I was expecting something more spectacular. Double roasted spicy pork belly was good - but wasn't any better from the street foods around, and cost twice as much... Deep fried homemade tofu with shrimps was seriously delicious, but double boiled soup with pork ribs and melon was just pain and bland.

The dishes are served in good and fast manner, the waitress and staff are well knowledgeable on every dish you want to taste. Overall the foods are delicious and variety of dishes for you to choose. However, there is a long queue to wait for at least an hour half in order to take your turn to have the meal in the restaurant.

  • 5/5 Martin F. 1 year ago on Google
A really excellent Chinese restaurant. Note the opening hours and be there early - it's always very crowded. If there is a small queue at the entrance, just wait - it's worth the time. Although full to capacity, we got our food very quickly. We tried Braised Pork Belly with yam slices and one of the Chicken dishes (I forget which) and everything was delicious. Clear recommendation!

A local delight to bring out of town guest for a nice dinner. Good was not too bad. The portion is a little small though. The queue is long and the restaurant shuts at 9pm sharp and the staff will make known time's up.

Tek Sen offer one of the best Chinese cuisine in Georgetown. Overall their dishes is flavorful and fragrant (wok hei), just that it is a bit salty. This is what we ordered and what we think about each dish: Double Roasted Pork with Chili Padi - fragrant and sweet soy sauce stir fry with pork, pair this with rice and it is incredible. Stir Fry French Bean with Pork & Shrimp - good mixture of meat, seafood and vegetable. Steam Fish in Teow Chew style - taste good Fried Rice with Egg and Various Cutlet - strong wok hei, fragrant, delicious and it just goes well with all the dishes we ordered

Used to go there a lot for the past few years, always told my KL’s friends to come n eat their food n for me this is one of the Best Chinese food in Penang. But today the food that l ordered was awful, prawn not fresh, all the food r so so so salty . Some more got a lot of Ajinomoto god thirsty n giddy for whole day. And the service was very very bad. I was only older the fried dry port for additional 2 times for take away, the staff told me can u please don’t order like this way, u r making our kitchen staff in trouble, u wanna order just order one time don’t do one more or one more…… I will never return to this 👎 restaurant anymore n l won’t recommend anymore to my KL’s friends. Now this restaurant became one of the worst in Penang. ( spent for an awful food n. Got the bad service from the sour staff to spoil my whole day mood,
