Nice rooms (other than the urine smell from the toilet) but the staff were cold and unfriendly. We had a late night bus and the receptionist cast us out at 7:55pm with all our luggage simply by saying “I want to close”. There was no care as to what we’ll do for hours in the dark with our huge backpacks, he just wanted to go home. The only other downsides were the loud music you could hear until 1am and how loud the housekeeping staff were every morning. Other than that, the beds were comfy and the location was good. The deposit of 100RM was pretty excessive though.

Stayed here 3 nights but considered to pick another hotel after one night. The room wss really small with no windows. The bed was just a matress on the floor, no real bed. A few spots in the room were really dirty (shelves above eye height for example). And it's a really noisy hotel. At 8 am the cleaning service starts and they are super loud while working but also a lot of people coming home at night after partying was quite bothering. Service at the desk was minimal 'here is your key. Please give us the deposit' were approximately the only words they said to us. No word too much. Also the wifi sucked, it didn't work at all. We had to sit in the lobby for some wifi and even there it didn't really properly work. Only plus in my opinion was the location. Wouldn't recommend at all.

Great hotel IF you don't need a table, chair, hooks besides in the bathroom, hairdryer, and windows! It's contemporary with the design and has an indoor space that has open air with a drinking coway drinking water station. There is a separate door up to the rest of rooms if front desk isn't there (8am to 8pm) $100 Rmd deposit isn't refundable if not requested for 24 hours in advance

We stayed in a private room. The pros: - Location of this hotel is better than great. It was close to pretty much everything. The best part was the choices of foods in the area. Very short walking distance to all the good foods around. Yet, on a very quiet street. - Cold and hot drinking water provided pretty much everywhere in the hotel. And they don't provide bottled waters which is great for the environment. Instead they give you a big stainless bottle so you could fill the water up as you wish. - Bed and pillows are very comfy. The bed was perfect. Not too soft, not too hard. The pillows were wonderful to me. You know, when you always expect the pillows to be super high in a budget hotel but it wasn't like that here. - Vending machine stuffed up nicely on the ground floor. Got everything from water, other drinks, beers to snacks and instant noodles. - Staff was nice enough even though we only saw her twice during check in and check out. The cons: - Room was poorly designed and badly equipped. Especially the ladders going up the bed. It was super steep. I bet there'll be accidents coming. You would hurt yourself at least once in this place. At best you kick something, your head hit the ceiling. At worst you fall down the steps and break something. The couch was also probably the worst one I've seen, they could've just put a wooden bench there and it'd feel exactly the same. The water pressure was almost sad. The rain shower was lovely but without the pressure it was almost useless. And there's no other amenities like tissues, not even a bath mat was provided. - 3 night stay but none of the housekeepers in sight. We don't mind if the sheets or towels aren't changed. We are okay if the room isn't cleaned. But no one came to fill up toilet papers nor the shower gel. And the reception only opens between 8am-8pm. We were always out during that time. If you don't offer cleaning service at least calculate how much toilet papers we'd need for 3 nights and put some spares? And maybe check if you're running out the shampoo and shower gel in the room? - Despite the heaviest door ever, there's no soundproofing. You could hear every single thing around you. People outside walking, people downstairs talking. (and again, you either risk it and go down talk to them on your own or just forget about your sleep. Like I said, no staff between 8pm-8am) - Internet was as good as no Internet at all. Never worked on any devices we had with us. In conclusion, we will have to think about it real hard whether to stay here for our next visit or try another hotel. (we've been to Penang many times and compared to all previous stay this was probably the least pleasant one... Sorry!)

Great location but the no window scenario was too much after 3 nights I checked out. Clean and comfortable but bed not suited to disability or elderly people

What an absolutely horrendous experience!!!! The room and place itself is fine (besides the lack of windows and the extremely steep stair to get up to the bed) but the staff are just awful! I’ve never come across more aggressive or rude people working in hospitality in my entire life! I overslept (completely my own fault of course) but when I made it to check out they were screaming in my face, accusing me of being drunk(?!?!), and threatening to call the police if I didn’t pay a fee for the late checkout, which I of course paid. I was originally going to extend for one night but this experience had me leave Penang early. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else.

Excellent in all aspects, especially with online offers. A traditional shophouse retrofitted into a compact but cozy hotel. The staff was really helpful in customer service and was prompt in answering my questions even before we had set our booking, polite and efficient, even contacted us after we checked out to inform us about some items left behind in the room The cabinets were abit dusty on the hangers but the room overall was really clean and comfortable, although the sound insulation is kinda poor but still bearable. Hotel has no lifts and we had to walk up to the third floor everytime even with our luggage but it was fine by us. Location is definitely a strong point when considering this hotel as it was really convenient for us to call GRAB around the whole island, would definitely recommend this place 8/10

Very central, love the location. Walking distance to a lot of good food. Minimal and comfy. Common area is beautiful and water filter is available. Very convenient. Appreciate the loungey area and space beneath the elevated bed. Water pressure is great but no shower glass, the whole toilet is wet after shower. Not suitable for older folks, as you need to climb a ladder up to bed (like a camper van) Noise cancellation is non existent. Can hear the sound of water flushing from pipe, and the commotion early in the morning at the walkway.

Such amazing newly opened hotel ! I would vote 10 stars. Everything is perfect, from the strategic location, the beautiful space design style up to the friendly staffs. The architect did an outstanding job!

This hostel building still new and located central in Chinatown. Room was very clean and tidy. They deserve cold water for the hot day in Penang. Bathroom also very tidy and clean with a soap and shampoo. nearby to Chowrasta Wet Market. Just walking distance you could find breakfast for very easy. and definitely will stay here again when i back to Penang.

The room was so nice.. great concept for youngster ( its a no no for elders n family with kids). I pick double room with toilet inside. Its super clean and brand new. Only the soap n shampoo looks very cheap as they dilute them with lots of water. If you bring car, you have to pay the public parking ticket as the dont provide parking.

I did stay for around 4 Nights at Kooning and I am so happy that I found this little Gem in the Heart of Georgetown. Perfect Location with Restaurants, Bars and Cafes just in Walking Distance. The Rooms are state of Art. Amazing design! Perfect Perfect Perfect! And the Staff working there are Top notch. Kind Friendly Helpful. I even did forget my IPad in Penang and went to Kuala Lumpur for a few days. They replied me very fast on their Social Media Channels and they took care of it until I came back I was so happy ❤️ If you choose Kooning for your Accommodation you will definitely not regret it. Even better you wanna come back every time you visit Georgetown. 100/10 Recommended 🫶

I booked a room through Agoda app, the checking in and out was very smooth and fast. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful as my drink was stuck in the vending machine, I was given the choice to get a refund or even a new one. We too managed to find a public parking nearby the hotel during night time. The room was very clean but I can hear noises when someone passes by the hallway.

Room was alright, nothing bad about it and the bed was very cozy! The location is amazing, being located right in the city center and having one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had right next to it. Unfortunately the staff was very cold and didn’t make no effort whatsoever to make you feel welcome. Didn’t cut much out of the experience for us tho.

Not often I say to avoid a place, but if you're here for more than a night or two you're doing something wrong. The power went out for 5 hours one day, staff sat around with their mobile hotspot not giving a care in the world for guests that had to sit in the heat with nothing to do. No timeline given for the power to return. No offer of a drink or a phone call for when it was back. Rooms are small and cramped. Bathroom had pee stains on the toilet seat. Hot water came and went on a whim. Climbing up and down the ladder from the bed was fun for about half an hour, then it was just annoying. Walls are paper thin so you hear the neighbors at all hours. They provide a metal thermos, but no coffee mugs. Thermos has zero insulation and WILL burn you if you put hot water in it. Wi-Fi was an absolute joke. The only positive is the location.

We stayed several nights. The hotel was modern, clean and in a good location. The loft bed was comfortable and we slept well. The staff was friendly.

Clean budget hotel with contemporary design, close to bus stops, eatery, tourist attractions in Georgetown. Room is a bit cramped though, but it's fine. Drinking water dispenser is available for guests 👍👍👍

Great location in Georgetown, close to lots of food options and all the touristy stuff. The room has a very unique layout with a double bunk bed and the bathroom and seating area underneath. Rooms were clean and everything worked well. Would recommend.

Clean and minimalistic hotel. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. They gave travel recommendations and very accommodative. Only minus was that the wifi was a bit slow at times.

Clean and comfortable room, have to climb up to the bed which is fun at first but can become annoying after a while. Very good location close to good restaurants/cafes/street food. Good value for the stay. Also has a water dispenser on the middle floor which is great! Only issue is WiFi is slow.

Modern and minimalistic hotel. However, you might want to come early to park your car since the parking is limited.

We currently stay in Kooning Hotel and it's quite uncomfortable. The staff is quite loud, unclean, throws water over balconies, etc. They are really the main reason for the bad experience. They smell like cigarettes - which is no problem - but they will just sit next to you all the time watching movies on their phone, when you're sitting, working on your laptop. Beds are pretty hard and the internet connection is too slow to even search something on Google. Not a hotel that I would suggest to anybody.

(+) The bed is comfortable. I thought it would be uncomfortable with the low ceiling, but it turned out just fine. The bathroom is very clean and it has good water pressure. The room has a good hair dryer too. The space for our bags is spacious. I'm also happy that they have water dispenser on every floor. Some of the reviews said that the doors are very loud. Well, it is though. But during my stay, i don't have any noisy neighbors. So we're good! 😊 One last thing, the place is literally in the middle of most of the good food places in town! We just have to walk 5 - 15 minutes from the hotel n u'll find lots of places to eat 🤤🤤🤤 (-) The receptionist was late for my check out. Better to make sure with them the day before if u have to check out early in the morning. If u have any problems, u can chat them thru booking.com apps. They are very fast respond and helpful.
