Food was delicious. Portions were huge and they came out one after the other pretty quickly considering it was a huge group of 12 people. Every dish was well cooked, well seasoned and efficiently presented. Good to dine in or take away too.

Such a cute joint next to the hotel and at such a strategic location. Food was satisfactorily delicious. Had the chicken chop (massive portion!) and the yam duck stew (delectable broth). Portions are for sharing. The staff are friendly and helpful that made the dining experience pleasant.

My first visit to Yeng Keng Cafe. It serves Hainanese cuisine, Nyonya and some Western food. We tried the Hainanese Chicken Chop. Taste was good. πŸ˜‹ The Hot Chocolate is served with traditional Gong Candy (Crushed Peanut Candy, or Kacang Tumbuk). Quite a nice combination πŸ˜ƒ Cafe ambience is cozy. It is suitable for events like birthday party, gathering, etc. Reservation is recommended before heading to the cafe. We came back again this year to taste the Hainanese Spring Rolls, Inchi Kabin Chicken, Hai Lam Mee, Gulai Tumis Fish, and Jiu Hoo Char. Love the dishes. We like the Hainanese Coffee too. The Sago with Gula Melaka and Coconut Milk dessert was on-the-house due to air-con break-down. What a courteous way to delight the customers. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Heard about this place from a family friend's recommendation so we decided to drop by for lunch, after calling ahead to make a table reservation and for their chicken pie. The interior is beautifully decorated, with the heritage style given a modern makeover, and the skylight becoming the drinks preparation area to draw the visitor's eye. The food was served piping hot and was quite tasty, although we personally found the chicken chop to be a little on the soggy side. The pie, though delicious, seemed to have more crust than filling. We ordered their desserts too, though no photos, and those were great, especially on a day as hot as when we visited! Overall, a nice place for a gathering of family or friends to have a relaxed meal.

The dining environment was comfortable. I wish I asked for a round table that would make food sharing a bit easier. The chicken chop was tender, the otak otak was nice and the choon piah was yummy. The only minus point that I could draw on is the lack of drink choices. The service was attentive too. The bill came to just under rm180 including three fresh juice. It was on a higher price point but you paid for the comfort.

Went here for lunch and was not dissapointed by the food and drinks here. The chicken chop is traditional batter style served with sides of wedges and green peas. The batter was slightly salty and oily but the gravy complements it well. Perhaps the gravy should be seperated to be dipped when eaten so that the batter won't be soggy. The chicken pie was spot on for both the crust and the filling of chicken, mushrooms, pea, carrots and onion. The sauce complements well with the crust.making it burst in the mouth. The best for my.meal was the Hainan coffee which was thick and sweetness at reasonable level.

##TipsForTrips: Highly recommended for dinner. A beautifully conserved heritage building consisting of the main boutique hotel and restaurant/cafe smacked in the center of town, along Chulia street that is busy during the day and comes prettily alive with nightlife. The restaurant itself has an old charm filled with beautiful furnishings and vivid blue and red. It is cozy, comfortable and cool. A perfect setting for relaxing Hainanese and Nyonya meals. We chose the latter for tonight’s dinner: from the nostalgic creamy yam duck, to the flavorful rendang mutton. The highlight was asam pedas fish that was absolutely tasty, very closely similar to the famous Penang Laksa broth. Coffee could be better though. Nevertheless service was excellent. Special thanks to the 2 staffs manning tables in this packed restaurant.

Some say old is gold. I love this place that serves nice Hainanese food. The restaurant bar is fitted with nice antique looking furnitures. We had their Ju Hoo Char, Choon Piah (spring roll), Hai Lam Mee, Hainanese Chicken Chop and the Hainanese Chicken Rice is a must. My guests from Indonesia were singing praises of their food and it was the perfect place to escape the heat too.

Nicely designed boutique hotel with superb food served. Everything is above average and the environment is just very chill where suitable for family gathering. Service was good as well. I like the popiah. They gave us free dessert somemore! The gula melaka was so damn nice, so i assume their cendol Will be superb. Will come back next time.

A little late post, we were there in Sep 2022 for a family dinner. We enjoyed it thoroughly. The ambience and setting was great. The service was fast and thoughtful without too imposing. And most of all the food was delicious. The chicken stewed with yam and yam gravy was done really well and the Assam curry we ordered was presented as shown on the menu! Will definitely return. Well done.

Interesting Hainanese Peranakan Combi Restaurant - tasty, good quality and generous portion. The hotel and restaurant has been rustically restored, providing convenient private backyard parking for diners and hotel guests.

Went on a quiet Monday evening. Got table with a good view. Pretty pleased with the food quality and prices are reasonable too. Do not charge for cold table water. Was surprised that they did not include any tax on the bill. Easy to order menu with plenty of food pictures.

Order 4 dishes. The popular choon piah is nice. Braised duck n yam is okay only as the gravy is too dilute. Curry kapitan with thick gravy and not so hot despite looking all red chilli and otak2 is quite nice. White rice is too hard n dry.

I arrived without a reservation. Luckily it was not public holiday, a short wait of 20 minutes in the courtyard though unavoidable but bearable. The food is served fast and quick. Fantastic Ulam Rice with salted egg and a piece of fish; Assam prawn heals my craving and the yam duck (Ar O) wow is thick and creamy. Hainam coffee received a thumb up from a hainamese, spot on for all the food.

Have been there a couple of times in the last 12 months. The Chun Piah (Hainanese fried spring roll) quality and size has gone down since April - diameter reduced and quality gone down. The jiew hoo char is still tasty. The asam pedas will be better if it had the β€œoomph”!

Thanks for our local friend bring us here.So far the best food quality I had here. Options in Menu not a lot but every dish is up to standard and quality.Compare the price of the food quality,it is definitely worth it. Also the restaurant locates in a heritage hotel.Decoration has a mixed of feelings with western cafe but provide Asian cuisine. Service is good and also very efficient.Food serves after 15 mins of order. Definitely recommend to everyone who visit penang.

Nice traditional Chinese and Colonial ambience. Restaurant is part of a boutique hotel in Chulia Street. Busy when we had dinner on Saturday and reservations required. Although we were dining at 7.00 pm it was disappointing to find out they had ran out some of the items on the menu. Food tried was average although the Baked Alaska was a show stopper but beware it is huge. A good option to consider on rainy evening instead of braving the nearby hawker centre.

Overall all the food is excellence.. the place deco was nice and able to cater for a crowd of 10. Most of the dishes are nice especially the macaroni pie ..delicious ..however I felt the inchi cabin chicken fall short.. the price of the assam prawn per piece rm 15 is kind of expensive in my opinion.. definitely to go to place again ..

Nice ambience, pretty good food & free parking in the heart of town. Although located in busy Chulia Street, the cafe with its surrounding courtyard & trees exudes a tranquil setting. We had the Hainanese chicken chop, chicken pot pie and fried springrolls or choon piah. Both the chicken chop (a huge piece) & chicken pie were good but the choon piah was nothing to shout about. The cafe was almost full during RMCO and we were lucky to get a table without reservation. The foreign waiters were attentive & polite.

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Environment: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Overall Rating: 4/5 Review: The chicken chop here is really amazing. The chicken was really juicy and tender, and it goes well with the sauce. However the chips (in this case potato wedges) portion is very unreasonable for RM20, and I only got less than 10 pieces of chips. So it wasn't the best chicken chop in terms of the chips, but at least the chicken was amazing.

tasty food, nice place and most importantly always feel satisfy after eating there. there are plentt private parking spaces at the back of the hotel, so parking is not a problem. walking from parking lot to restaurant, you will go thru a bamboo pathway. it is a beautiful scene. in short, Yummy.

What an experience. Nice ambient set in a heritage building, great attentive service, and great delish nyonya Penang style food that I like. Ordered the chicken Chop, square bean with chincalok, assam prawns, fried popiah, inchi kabin and stir fried radish. All of them delish! My favourite is the prawn. Sour enough to titilate the palate, and fried to charred-caramelised-sour perfection! Popiah is unique, and pairs well with the special dip. Chicken Chop is the traditional Hainanese style, big portion, tender inside and with green peas and wedges sides. Pairs well with chilli sauce, as I was used to. The square bean has a great spicy kick to it, and crunchy. My kind of greens. Inchi kabin is well charred and tasty. Thibk of bbq chicken with a slight sweet burnt and savoury at the same time. All in all, a great experience. Will be back for more!

I had the pleasure of arranging a dinner event for my colleagues from out-of-town here. The owner, Bok was an excellent host from my engagement with him during reservations and throughout dinner, making recommendations and adjustments as necessary to accommodate our needs. The setting which is in a heritage shop house provided a unique ambiance which served to heighten the nyonya cuisine experience. Everyone at dinner enjoyed the nyonya dinner immensely, and only had praises for the taste of the food. The tamarind prawns are a must try with succulent, fresh prawns and a fantastic balance of tangy, sweet and savory tamarind sauce. I ate the whole thing including shells and head πŸ˜…. My vegetarian guest also loved the specially prepared vegetarian food. If you're in this part of town, you owe it to yourself to come in and enjoy an authentic Nyonya food experience.

Best Nyonya food resto in town, family favourite too. Semi outdoor or indoor seating area, sea view, and cozy ambience. Love the fish asam pedas, Asam prawn, lorbak, juhu vegetables, inchi kabin etc. Tasty and quality food, full of flavour of Nyonya spices, even the dessert are good too. Quick serving, good service and friendly helpful staffs. Ample parking is available. During MCO, it offers delivery on set menu or ala carte. Very recommended!

We always dine in Hainan Town restaurant everytime we comes to Penang. This time the restaurant no longer operate in Hainan Town but had relocated to Yeng Keng Cafe at Jalan Chulia which also attached to Yeng Keng Hotel. They have also revised their menu to focus only on their signature dishes We ordered 4 dishes jiu hu char, popiah roll, Asam Tumis fish & asam prawn along with 2 watermelon juices plus white rice for 2 persons and the bill came at MYR 198 which was a bit pricey but the food was very tasty, the asam fish was very fresh too The only downtime was the waiting time. We were the only customer but they took about 35 minutes to cook the dishes

The place to be for authentic Hainanese cuisine in Penang. They have wide variety of food choices : western, local fares and rice dishes. Price is very reasonable in proportion to the big serving size. Service by the waiters were really attentive too. We tried the hainan mee, hainan chicken chop, spring roll, mushroom soup, sago gula melaka and hainan coffee - all for RM89

We went here yesterday for dinner and the place was quite full. We ordered several dishes and all were very tasty. The service is good, the food is great, the atmosphere is awesome and the prices are fair. We have been coming here for over a year and have never had a bad dish, or bad service. We really enjoy it and we will come back often. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
