The better Char Kuey Teow Lorong Selamat, Siam Road, Ah Leng.. just a few names when it comes to CKT. When in Penang especially the island, almost every nook and corner you can find CKT. So which CKT is the best, you might ask? I don't know how to answer this question.. my vocabulary is not big enough to justify my decision. But I do like it when I eat a good plate of CKT. My second morning in Penang Island and I was visiting Komtar with the family so I looked up my list and Sin Hwa was quite near to my destination. After solving the difficult parking puzzle, we walked a shirt distance here to enjoy one of the most debated dish of all. Located along the busy Jalan Burma, the CKT stall is placed right in front of the restaurant with a fan to direct the smoke outside. A simple kopitiam with the boss frying plate and plate of CKT, one by one.. while an elderly lady (I assumed that she was his mom) was seen preparing drinks. My verdict? It was very good.. enough wok hei, the Kuey Teow came not lumped together, the quintessential cockles were present and 3 rather big piece of prawns (calamari was present too) were given. Flavour-wise it ticked the right box for me, while the kids enjoyed the same dish minus the spiciness. A cuppa of Kopi O Kosong and the day just got better from thereon.

Great plate of penang style char koay teow. Good wok hei, enough chee yau char and the prawns and sihum are just nicely portioned and fresh, plus chinese sausage. Much better then the CKT we had earlier at Ping Hooi and beats queuing up for 1hr++ at Siam road any day. Kudos to my buddy Alvin Chan for introducing this gem!

I have not eaten the Char Koay Teow with Duck Egg for a long time at Kedai Kopi Sin Hwa. I ordered a plate of Char Koay Teow with Duck Egg with Prawns only + Pork Lards + Chives last Saturday noon. I was disappointed with my Char Koay Teow cos a few Chives without Pork Lards. ☹️ I missed the Mixed Laksa (Assam + Lemak Soup) cos was Sold Out ☹️

Not my first time in this kopitiam and used to come here for the Char Kway Teow. However, the quality have recently taken a dip. There's "wok hei" and taste not bad but what went wrong? Firstly it's fried until it becomes too dry, the cockles was overcooked until it was too rubbery and shrunk. Despite these shortcomings, it's still a decent plate of Char Kway Teow and an alternative because most of the famous ones close right after lunch hour. BTW, the kopitiam has that nostalgic 1940s vibe.

I first visited this place in 2014 and absolutely love the laksa and coffee here. I will make it a point to come here every time I visit Penang. Sadly, for this trip on 2 occasions the laksa stall was closed. But the Char koay teow was a gem. My husband fell in love with the CKT here, hence the 2 trips during our 4 days holiday. We had CKT at 4 places, and this is one we would definitely return in future. We asked the CKT boss about the laksa opening hours, and he said their hours are not fixed. Just have to see your luck.

Very under-rated CKT, which comes with local cockles, Chinese sausage and BIG prawns. Can also order with 🦆 or 🐓 egg. Only MYR 7 for small plate. Tasty++. No need to pay big 💸 for the Dato' Keramat CKT, unless you are a devoted follower of hipster vloggers with money to throw.

Great place for a plate of Char Koay Teow. The recipe and cooking style have been passed down the generations and many of us would remember buying from the grandma or father ☺️

CKT (chow kuey teow) galore in Penang, every other stall claims to be the best. It's all about the jet fire and the duck egg, yes you heard me duck egg makes all the calories worth it, among other morsels. This particular shop opposite the police station in Pulau Tikus in my opinion is one of the better ones, a second generation father to son like many other eateries in Penang. There's also an asam laksa stall which is also a passed down business, a twin combo. Makes you wonder will the current generation takeover? It's a gritty kopitiam so don't mind the grit.

Love the duck egg fried kuih teow. But do note it's not the dry type. You can have the option to tambah sotong.

The Char Koay Teow was dry but in a big portion. It was NOT to my liking which I preferred slightly wet with stronger fried aroma. Tried their Local Coffee with evaporated Milk (Kopi Se), quite bland. I felt and tasted the coffee which I felt was NOT roasted enough and the deep coffee aroma is missing.

The hidden gem is the MIXED LAKSA. Assam and lemak mixed together. This is Penang's best ! Always a top favourite. A go to everytime I return to Penang. However, the char koay teow's standards have dropped.. possibly from the change in the soya sauce used and the use of gas stove.. Previously when fried by the mother, it was using charcoal fire and thus had a slow flame to caramelised the molasses... gone were those days.. sadly missed.. 😥

A very low profile kopitiam, a middle shop lot with a Char Kuey Teow stall as being the most notable. Food delivery riders queue here for pickup. Its char kueu teow is not to be looked down as it is full with wok hei, umami being one of the better ones in the island. Price is very reasonable too.

Delicious assam laksa, well balanced with fresh and generous ingredients and garnishes. Love the old school authenticity. Beats the watery and overrated ones they are serving in touristy lane back in Georgetown.

hidden shop in the middle of a row of shops. very old school kind. the laksa and char kuey teow has a lot of flavour. not the typical touristi spot.

Best Char kway teow I ever had. Wok Qi, smoothest rice noodle!

👍 A friend highly recommended me to visit this restaurant when I travel to Penang. No regrets making my way there as the food is amazing and the pricing is also very reasonable. Don’t mind to visit this place again real soon.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
