The asam laksa is more towards the sour type, the broth is very flavourful and lots of vegetables! Most importantly the owner and her daughter in law is sooo polite they are so kind and sweet! In the early morning they already gave us the positivity that the town is full of people like this! The Char Kway Teow is abit too salty for our tasting and kinda pricy if you order duck eggs, but still tasty laa it can’t go that that bad . We were also told you can bring teowchew chendul here ya they don’t charge extra money , so kind of them

Was told this is the original stall at the famous Chendol cafe up the street. Definitely the laksa taste better than the watery one at Chendol cafe. Do top up your sardines to make this laksa taste even better.

Deliciously spicy and sour laksa, with chewy and firm noodles. If you are a lover of tamarind, then this dish is for you. Flavours are strong, with the addition of mackerel, making this dish a specialty here in Penang. Check out our channel for a full review of our experience: Hungry Two Travel.

One of the best Penang laksa. This aunty used to sell at Joo Hooi coffee shop on Penang Rd. Char Koay Teow is good enough for my Ipoh friends πŸ˜‚ We didn’t order drinks from the aunty selling coffee. We wanted cendol and she went to tapau for us from one of the 2 cendol stalls near Joo Hooi coffee shop.

Best Assam Laksa I had in Malaysia. Sour and bit sweet and bit spicy. Nice pieces of fish. Cucumbers, pineapple, mint and shrimp sauce makes it so delicious. Soft thick rice noodles 🀀 and so cheap!

Highly recommend the assam laksa at this restaurant. The old lady (not sure if she is the owner) is very humble and friendly. She is willing to share the knowledge about assam laksa with us even our Hokkien not good and her mandarin is so so. Restaurant is clean, overall we have a pleasant time with her.

Tasty CKT and Penang Asam Laksa, hits all the right places and checks all the right boxes as you would expect them to. Price is reasonable, boss is nice to talk to and they allow you to order the Penang cendol through them. Couldn't have asked for more.

I really really love this. The asam laksa is slightly sour but the broth is very flavourful. I like more sour taste so this was good. I would've eaten 2 but also ordered the Char Kway Teow with duck eggs. It was not too bad. Don't mind coming back here to eat

Came here 4 years back, it is still as good. Penang laksa is assam laksa alike (just in case, for people with different expectations), it tastes sour and contains just thick bee hoon without meat β€œliao”. Love how soft the bee hoon tastes and soup was great. MUST ORDER- the char kway tiao stall beside has goooooood charred (wok hey) kway tiao. Really worth it. Highly recommended. Both cost RM15.50 (laksa + CKT w duck egg)

    1. Penang Asam Laksa (RM6.50): It was absolutely delicious. A delightful combination of sweet, sour, and spicy tastes. 2. Penang Char Kway Teow with Duck Egg (RM9): Another delicious treat with a smoky aroma. 3. Cendol (RM5): It was refreshing and mouthwatering, perfect for cooling down and satisfying our sweet tooth on a hot day.

Ordered the char kway teow with duck egg and asam laksa, hands down one of the best char kway teow in town, who would have thought that this dish would out shine their house asam laksa haha (in my humble opinion). I would highly recommend it! She jokingly said she would teach for a fee, had a great time chatting with this friendly auntie.

We were recommended to try this place. The aunty cooking here was the original chef for the Teochew cendol shop, however, moved in 2016 due to personal reasons with the original owner who was her mother in law. The laksa was good and the char kuey teow with duck egg was also recommended

I know the shop name says that it's famous for asam laksa, but they forgot to mention it has the BEST Duck egg Char Kuey Teow by far and I'm a ckt fan. You can also order cendol from them that comes from the authentic cendol store down the road. This store run by 3 awesome ladies. Definitely worth a visit. *pardon my blurry laksa photo, I got too excited

Very good laksa, great balance of spicy, salty, sweet and sour. Fresh pineapple and mint add a refreshing taste. Note that this store only sells three items: laksa, chow quay teow and oyster omelette. Other shop owners may come by with a different menu and try sell other items.

not sure what the fuss is about, the Laksa is a bit sour (like Tom yum soup, but stronger). There is no meat that i could see in the soup. I think there is some fish in the soup. Overall, it's not bad. The place does not look very hygiene to me.

Penang laksa is appetizing, char koay teow has good wok hei taste and flavor. Lime and asam juice quench our thirst from the warm weather.

The laksa is delicious and so appetizing. CKT is full of Wok Hei and tastes good even without pork lard (This is a Halal Restaurant). Food is serving fast and no need to wait long for your food to be served.

One of the most recommended dishes in Penang is its Laksa. It's quite different from the Laksa I've had in Singapore. Penang Laksa has a slightly sour broth, giving it a very distinctive taste. We were very satisfied with the Laksa. We also ordered Es Kachang and Oyster Omelet. We even met the founder, an elderly woman who appeared to be in her 70s. She has been running this Laksa stall for over 50 years. It was a great experience overall, with the taste and price meeting our expectations.

one of the best laksa i have eaten. so much flavor. the rice noodle has a likeable chewy texture. the vegetables provide the crunchy texture. the char kuey teow is also awesome. every bite is bursting with flavors. the blending of textures is so good. the prawn has a q texture, very fresh. the milo is foamy and delicious. the staff are very speedy. the restaurant is very crowded and there is a long queue outside. we got our seats pretty fast. the restaurant allows staff from other stalls to show their menu in the restaurant and take orders. so you have to make sure you really like the food before you order.

If you like the Asam Laksa that provide you the tamarind sour kick & come with the ginger flowers aromatic floral, subtly ginger-like scent and piquant flavor with citrus-forward nuances. Then you should give a tried on this Asam Laksa. The Ayer Itam Asam Laksa version it taste more towards robust & sweet couple with heavy shrimp paste taste. So is either you like it the sour taste or sweet taste ? I personally prefer this Penang Road Asam Laksa, the broth was slightly aroma, clean infusion of natural fresh flavours that is because the owner have top up a bit more of natural green like mint, ginger flower, onion, pineapple & lettuce as well. Besides, the shop also serve Char Koay Teow, Nyonya Cendol, Ice Kacang & other beverage as well. The owner was friendly & you will not hardly to find numbers of media interview report like: NHK World Japan, Hennessy X.O Food Tasting & etc. been here to broadcast which the owner framed it on the wall.

The legend cafe of Penang Asam Laksa in town. Plenty of tourists or locals visited. Reasonable price, casual cafe, also available char koai teow and drinks. You may order famous Penang Chendol there too without queuing. Pick up on road side or parking space is available. Very recommended!

πŸ“Famous Penang Road Laksa What's your take on the Laksa here? There are quite a number of notable famous 'Laksa' in Penang, and Penang Road's one stands as a favorite by locals.. I love the convenience of having amazing Laksa, and amazing Cendol at the same area..

I'm supposed to try Ewe Laksa but unfortunately it was all sold out before 3pm. Then I read all the online reviews claiming that this place also offered a top ranking asam laksa so I decided to give it a try and the nightmare started. Not saying that the asam laksa is bad but it couldn't live up to the expectations to quality for being the best laksa around as the taste is lacking, fish flakes very stingy in portion and after tasting it, I would say simply any stalls in KL can cook such a standard. Not forget to mention the char kuey teow here is simply rubbish, yes you got it: RUBBISH! The taste is lacking and I see no passion in the way they cook it. The cendol is nothing but complete sweetness while the ABC still considered ok. The staffs here all working with a poor attitude and we don't feel comfortable or welcome with their lousy service despite charging the food and beverages at a much higher price tag. The environment is hot and stuffy which suggest you eat and go before your body suffer from dehydration. It's solely a place to hunt for the negligent overseas patrons but for real food lovers they won't step into this restaurant twice.

Heritage area. Food here good taste. Service fast but lack of staff. I saw old auntie busy preparing for asam laksa. The other staff just looking at her. Environment a bit crowded not many table to sit. Parking difficult to get but paid parking available here with expensive charge.

The fried Kueh tiew was lacking in wok hei whereas the asam laksa broth was not rich enough with fish and flavor. Oysters omelette was good. Was surprised to find out that this is a Michelin star restaurant. Service is fast, staff are friendly and the place is clean. Hopefully they can improve and maintain their food quality.

Food is great. Assam laksa is totally different from the other versions of laksa around the word. This shop has a Michelin star for the laksa but not the char kway teow. They do sell delicious char kway teow if you can’t manage to queue for the famous charcoal cooked one. Taste is good but don’t compare with the Michelin one

I came sharp at 9am on a Saturday and they were not fully opened yet. But the moment their doors opened, it was almost packed. The oyster omelette stall was not open. Their laksa is flavorful and less fishy than normal, good for people who cannot stand fishy tastes. Char koay teow was my preferred dish here, especially with the fragrant duck eggs. Food is served fairly quick and it is not expensive here.

pretty darn good. came in on a tuesday afternoon, not full house yet. tried both the assam laksa and char kway teow. the ckt was fabulous, great wok hey, made me want another plate, the only bad thing is the portion is a lil small for rm9, ordered the one with duck egg. assam laksa was goooood too, not too sour, love the flavour.

Ordered big asam laksa for sharing. The portion size is small. The taste is mild and diluted. If you like strong flavored laksa, this is not the place for you. It tastes below average at best. The only nice thing about this restaurant is that they do help you to order the famous teochew cendul from the stall and send to your table (you can skip the queue if you want to try the cendul)

You can’t leave Penang without having an asam laksa n CKT , you can find both dishes under the same roof w/michellin guide 2023.. I like the asam laksa, the broth not thick enough but very flavorful , the texture of the noodle cooked perfectly. I loved the CKT, a good robust wok hei ,but no lapcheong and cockles as it’s a Muslim friendly restaurant. But overall both dishes were good tbh.

Must try the assam laksa! The balance of sour, spicy making it taste yummy! Will definitely try again during my next visit. We also tried their ochen - oyster omelette, based on my friend, it’s was so-so. Another one is we tried char kuey teow. Noodle is springy, got the β€˜wok’ but the one we ordered doesn’t have siham in it

This is the original Penang Rd Laksa, that was in the Cendol shop. The aunty moved out of the corner shop to here in 2016, the original operator was her mother in law. The laksa is one of the best , as good as the air itam wet market one. It is better than the stall that took over in the corner shop which people mistook as the original one.

Typical Penang food, but I feel that now KL can imitate better or the Penang food is getting too commercial.

  • 2/5 Mar S. 1 year ago on Google
Not sure why its on the bib gourmand list, the laksa was too fishy for me, there were just noodles, some veggies and some thin slices of pineapple. The taste is kinda like tom yum fusion with asam fishead. Ample of herbs and spices and there was no meat or protein. Might order it again next time if there are no lines, but will skip it if there are any.

We came here at 10AM to beat crowed and queue, so we were the only customers enjoying the friendly service from the YouTube celebrity owners. I think many people go to the wrong shop at the beginning of the road where they used to be. If they serve cendol, you are at the wrong place. If you are not greeted by friendly aunties, you are in the wrong place. About the taste, I would say it’s great. And that comes from a Gweilo living in Malaysia for 15 years. PS. The charm of this place is (besides the laksa) the old owner. She may forget what drinks you ordered and (even worse) forget to charge for them. Yet, everything is affordable, that I did my own math and paid for it anyway.
