Housed in a colonial pre-war shoplot along King Street, This establishment used to be in another place called 1926 along Burmah Road as part of a hotel. Evoking a sense of nostalgia as you walk in and is greeted with the dining room and the traditional room partition which separates the front and the back of the house, the menu also features dishes from a bygone era as well. The standard nonya dishes are all here, and has a few small surprises, do ask the friendly staff here should you be curious about any particular dish. The dining room is a little cramped, due to the size of the room, but still can seat about 70 persons or so. The food is not bad. While some complain about the spring rolls, I found them to be passable, albeit missing the crab meat. The hailam mee was also passable, even though it was bordering a little on the sweet side. I especially liked the jiu hoo char (cuttlefish) which rarely has more than a few slivers of cuttlefish - this one was quite packed with it, and therefore making it really good. Prices are reasonable, and do call or make a reservation before attempting to come during peak hours or you'll be disappointed.

Food we had for lunch quite delicious except for the chicken pie (take away) which also has only a top layer of mediorce puff pastry. They charged a 25% CNY surcharge instead of the usual 5%. Disappointed, there is no display to inform this nor did they inform verbally. I did not want to make a fuss on the spot as do not wish to spoil the mood for other customers as well as ours and the owners Hope the owners will take note of this and make improvements. Another thing is do not know why they charged RM 1 for the foil container for the take away chicken pie when it looked like the pie is cooked in the container.

The restaurant is set in a beautifully restored old shop lot. We went there for dinner and parking was a breeze at night, which was a welcome respite from Penang traffic. The owner took the time to recommend their specialties to us, describing each dish with pride in their cuisine. Our orders came very quickly and they were delicious. The spring rolls are a must, as they have a slightly sweet twist to them. The chicken rice was very flavourful, which called for an extra helping of rice. The fried bitter gourd was surprisingly crunchy, retaining the flavour of the bitter gourd well, nice. Kangkung belacan was good, as well as the asam curry fish. The Hainanese fried bihun came with a bit of gravy, which was different from what I was expecting, nice surprise. I believe they serve their version of Hainanese food, and they've done well to give us diners a pleasant gastronomic surprise. Recommended dining.

Completely disappointed with the basic Hainanese spring roll with its chilies sauce. The Hainan Char just have sugar sweetness. If these two dishes cannot even present their authenticity, the rest of them I do not need to express my disappointment.

Ate here with my family in April. A friend in Singapore highly recommended that we come here to savour what she regarded as the best in Penang. She was right. It was delightful. And the owner George makes his customers feel very much at home.

If you are looking for a delicious and authentic meal option while in Penang among all the other many Penang food options, give this place a try and experience authentic Hainanese food! The dishes here are lovinly home made and there are even rare dishes like the Yam Duck (order in advance!) that you hardly see on most hainanese menus. Their signature appetizer of a Hainanese Spring Roll (Choon Piah) is a good balance of flavors and textures where you can taste all the vegetables. If you don't know where to start, be sure to ask the helpful and friendly staff for suggestions and try not to be tempted to order everything on th menu!

I know it in my heart that the food would be good even before it entered my mouth. We came in at 9.00pm and they took us in, which we are really grateful for it since we were starving. The atmosphere of the shop was very nice and the owners of the shop are very polite and welcoming. The store is clean and well decorated, just come and try and you’ll be amazed. However, we rated it 4 stars before trying the food.

The food is great! We liked all the dishes, especially the fried ngo hiang, curry chicken (really nice with the touch of lime), lamb stew. Special mention to the fried bitter gourd with salted egg. Yummy! The owner, Uncle George, was very friendly and chatted with us and made us feel welcomed. We had a wonderful dinner here. Thanks to Uncle George and his team!

Authentic Hainanese food in Georgetown heritage area. Hailam mee and Ichikabin are must order. Do make reservation in advance if you’re coming in big group as limited space in the restaurant.

We had Hainanese Chicken Chops, Inchikabin, Hainanese Chicken rice set and spring rolls. Good food! Home made herbal tea tasted like plain water, sorry to say. Didn't wait too long to get our food. Uncle serving was very friendly.

This is my must visit diner whenever I am in town. Started by a family , they followed their parents old recipe for hainan chicken rice and assam prawn. The spring roll is also die for. Most importantly the owners are always nice and kind. Not like some famous outlet. Love it here !!

Our ship was scheduled to depart at 10:30pm so we stopped by to reserve a table for 7:30. Not disappointed! Despite every table filled, including two in the back, our order was taken fast and our Tiger beers and appetizers — delightful and, for us, unusual spring rolls — arrived soon after. Prawns grilled and basted in a sweet sauce, creamy shrimp sauce on flat rice noodles, sautéed flat noodles with chicken, ginger and chili, tapioca with palm sugar and sweetened milk. I couldn’t possibly remember what these were all called, but they were delicious and the Hainan style was quite different from the Chinese styles we typically find in the USA. And our restaurant hosts were simply lovely, taking a group photo, describing each dish in excellent English, and bidding us a safe onward voyage.

This restaurant is more suitable for family or large group Overall the food is okay, fresh ingredients used but tastes does not meet my expectations. - Hailam Mee Taste way too bland and nothing special - Hainanese Spring Roll Crispy skin wrapped and stuffed with fresh ingredients, aroma, freshness and crispiness perfect, just tastes not that good

We had a good dinner here. Spring roll and lor Bak was good. Hainanese Chicken rice was tasty and tender. The chili and ginger accompaniment was just right. We also had asam prawns. Delicious. Nice place

Had a chance to dine here, and one or two of the selection of dishes were surprisingly new to me. The stew, especially lamb, is a must try. As seating is limited, it can be hit or miss, so call in advance.

Hailam noodles was good , the old style hainanese noodles aroma with prawns, chicken and vegetables. Noodles portion was small but the prawns n chicken is generous. Chun-pia ( hainanese spring rolls) was a bit disappointing. more of vegetables with five spices flavor spring roll like lor bak . Chicken chop was average. Overall average taste , vibe are family type restaurant . Saturday was rather empty. Wooden door half close like not open . Price average .

Excellent restaurant that reopened (after the pandemic) in this current location. Serves authentic homely hainanese cuisine, especially liked their chicken rice, ju hu char, and appetisers like lor bak and spring rolls... Very friendly owners and had a nice chat with Mr. Wong on the history of their restaurant...

Satisfying Penang Hainanese cuisine. Authentic Hainanese dishes with specialty homemade sauce. We ordered the homemade Hainanese Spring Roll, Asam Fish, Inchay Ka Pin (Hainanese Fried Chicken)with special sauce and Salted Egg Yolk Bitter gourd. Enjoyed them all very much!

tried a few dishese recently........mixed experience........the so-called hainese chicken rice meat has little fragrance and tasted bland whereas other dishes were acceptable eg popiah, curry fish and lamb. take note the price is not that cheap and slightly above average.

Highlight of my Penang culinary visit. Run by two brothers George & family members. Offering authentic Hainan/Penang food, as they remembered from their immigrant Hainanese father, a chef for an English family, hence small selection with Brits touch, pies & puffs. Everything is good, Hainan chicken, spring roll, satay all sounds standard run of the mill, until it turns up at your table.

Food are tasty but the price are comparatively slightly high. Nice casual ambience with limited free parking slot available just in front of the restaurant. Pork free restaurant, ideal for company gathering if you havs Muslim colleagues.

Really amazing taste every dish. Never expect Hainanese food to be so full of surprises. Such as macaroni and cheese with egg white toppings, chicken chop with fries and etc.

Chicken rice and chicken chop never disappoint. Lor bak was also really good. Great place to get Halal Hainanese food.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
