Curry mee was delicious here. Slight above average. 3 stars Lam mee was recommended. Simple and nice. Soup was good. RM5 per serving. 4 stars Prawn mee was delicious. Soup was fantastic. Ingredients with pork slices, small cut half prawns, egg, vege and pork skin. RM5 per serving was value for money. 4 stars Yee mee also worth trying. Taste was good and noodle was well done. Generous ingredients. Value for money. But just lack of wok hei. RM6 per serving with extra egg. 3 stars Wan tan mee taste just so so, slight above average. But, the ingredients was generous that pull crowd. RM5.50 with 3 fried wonton and 2 steam wonton and 1 thick fishcake and slices of charsiew really very worthy. Wonton is upside of normal wonton elsewhere. Taste is 3 stars but ingredients add another 1 star. 4 stars Fried fish bee hoon was done nicely. Not over cooked and with slight wok hei. Adequate fish. 3 stars Just outside the coffeeshop, a van near the coffee shop that sell bread with pork dried meat cum floss. Ask the boss to put more sauce. 3 stars Indian apom besides the coffeeshop also worth trying. 3 stars

New Cathay Cafe has been a breakfast venue of choice for locals for decades. Famous for its unique Penang Pan Cakes, Indian Apoms and the Curry Mee, this Kopitiam operates only for breakfast only. Of late, locals tend to also like the Mee Jawa and Sar Hor Fun stalls. New Cathay is usually packed and you have to wait to snatch a seat. Recommended 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

This place served very nice local coffee aka "Kopi O". It is a must if you visit this shop. They also have bread toast and half boiled eggs. This place is very relaxing. This place usually crowded with locals and travellers during breakfast. Fried Koay Teow here also not bad. The boss is very friendly and helpful.

Great coffee shop with many delicious hawker food. We ordered takeaways on Hockkien Mee (HKM), Koay Chiap (Duck Flat Noodle) and infamous Apom. The notable dish is the Apom which is the taste of coconut milk which makes it milky and delicious, both variants either the regular type or the single egg on the Apom is wonderfully and savoury made. For the Koay Chiap (Duck Flat Noodle) the gravy or soup is delicious but the noodle is kinda hard or grainy in the middle. As for the Hockkien Mee (HKM) it was average fanfare due to it's soup which was NOT thick, prawny taste and aromatic or fragrantly brewed. The soup is kind of diluted and too sweet for me as it tasted sugary sweet.

Highly recommended place for breakfast. Located near our hotel and we went for breakfast at 8 am before our trip to Escape Penang. We had Wan Tan Mee, Kuew Teow Soup, Char Kuey Teow, Hokkien Prawn Mee and Apom. The food is nice but would recommend the Kuew Teow Soup, Apom and Prawn Mee. Service is prompt. Parking could be difficult.

Best local coffee in town. Visit this coffee shop twice during my trip in Penang. Service is good and fast, staff very friendly. The coffee, the toast and the half boiled eggs are perfectly done. A very good place to relax after long walk in the surrounding.

Always like this place for breakfast! All stalls are handled by the owner for many many years and everything is good. Highly recommend the pancake, char kuey teow, prawn mee, apom and many more. This place is always packed, so you will need to wait for seats.

A very old and established coffee shop. I was craving for hokkien lor mee and not many coffee shops have such stall. So I was kinda happy when I just happen to pass by this place and saw there is a hokkien mee + lor mee stall. So I went ahead and ordered it. Also top up extra sio bak (roast pork) and total came to about RM10 for that one bowl of hokkien lor mee. Not exactly the best one that I have tastes as I feel the soup is a bit diluted and not that flavorful enough but still happy as manage to solve my craving at that time. There are many more different hawker food available at this coffee shop and they all look nice so definitely can visit and try. Parking can be a bit challenging as there are limited road side public parking space.

A wide range of varieties of Penang hawker foods here. Foods are generally very good. I particularly like the Pan Mee(板麵) , Char Hor Fun(炒河粉), Char Koay Teow(炒粿條), Curry Mee(咖哩麵), Fish head Bee Hoon(魚頭米粉) and Apom here. Sitting inside the store is a bit hot. Sitting near the drainage feels much cooler and more pleasant.

Everything is tasty here, the fried kuey teow, the roti. As for the coffee, not as good as our Ipoh white coffee la 😂😂😂 but still a very good coffee ❤️ two sets of roti& 1 iced coffee at only RM7.00++ , can say that the price is very affordable too. Wanted to comeback here for breakfast on our 2nd day but it's closed on Sunday. Too bad. Will come again next time!

(Translated by Google) The century-old tea house, Come and enjoy Hainan coffee. Recommend charcoal toast, The traditional approach is very particular, Roasted crispy and soft; Soft-boiled egg whites are tender and tender, The egg yolk cream is very smooth, Can be called a standard. Disappointed ice coffee milk tea, Adding ice cubes tastes very light, Plastic cups are very deductible, Although paper straws are environmentally friendly, But it is super difficult to suck after softening. It is recommended to order hot drinks, Using traditional coffee cups, It retains flavor. The nasi lemak is spicy and delicious, Fried Kway Teow looks ordinary.

This Kopi Tiam has been around for a long, long time. It has relocated to the present premise at Leith Street from Hutton Lane. It used to be a late philantrophist's favourite breakfast place every morning. This is a typical Kopi Tiam serving toasted bread with good coffee. It is still drawing the crowd as an iconic Kopi Tiam. So tag someone to have good toasted bread and coffee. Bon Appetit.

Finally got to try this hawker after coming for the third time! Come early, as it wa quite crowded and some stalls have run out of food or preparing to close on 11.00 - 11.30am The hawker has wide selections of food, including the one you rarely find on other hawker like the Pan Cake (not the American type of pancake) What i had : * Wan tan (dumplings) from The Wan Tan Mee stall was yummy - meaty and full of filling. The soup was so bland, though * Pan Cake was sweet and nice, with banana and egg. It reminds me of Oh Cien, but sweet version and without oyster for sure 🤣 I requested without raisins and had to wait a while for the next batch. But it didn't take that long. * Apom with egg on top (RM 2) from The famous Sai Ram Apom. Love love love this so much! The sweet and thin Apom and the runny yolk with a little bit of soy sauce and pepper. You should try this!! Btw the short-haired lady from the beverage stall is so friendly and funny. Will visit this hawker again for brunch and try other stalls. **Updates** Came here again and tried : * Wan tan (dumplings) RM 8,5 - this time requested dry ones, seasoned with soy sauce, just like the Wan Tan Mee. Still bland, but much better than with soup * Xian Bing (meat pie) RM 3 - so good! Crispy outside, a little wet inside, the meat filling was so generous and packed. It tastes peppery and tasty. Many other hawkers don't offer this menu. Should try. Come early because they will be sold out around 10/11 am.

Crowded although on weekday. Hokkiean Mee, Nice as per Mum. For me: WanTanMee- bit normal but the FriedWonTon&Dumpling pretty ok, would advice if the greenchili able to assorted with vineger. Apom- nice serve in hot, but abit exp. RotiBakar- only butter option and is soso.

I like the Jawa Mee very much! It's safe to say maybe u wouldn't find it in any reguler hawker center. It's kinda similar to Hokkian Emie with peanutty flavor in the umami gravy. I thought the broth is really delicious, and has a depth of flavor. Served on top of wet noodle, rice vermicelli, potatoes, taukua (tofu), and half an egg. I would like to ask for a whole egg (since it has no meat) but uncle and aunty couldn't understand me 😂 The Sai Ram Sweet Apom is maybe one of the best apom in Penang! It has this subtle sweetness and crispy edges. So nice to pair it with coffee 😍

🔵Hokkien (prawn) mee - Fantastic 🔵Curry noodle - Delicious 🔵 Sai Ram Apom - Fluffy and fragrant 🔵 Meat pancake - Aromatic but nothing too special Wantan mee and jawa mee looks appetising as well but my stomach can only take so much food 😂😂😂. Will definitely come back again next time. Parking is limited so it's better to park further away and walk over here.

Densely packed kopitiam serving breakfast to both the locals and tourists. Food prices can be slightly on the higher side due to tourism. Highly recommended the Lam Mee; soup is flavourful and price is compatible with prawn and noodle portion. Wantan mee is good too but you should let the lady know how you like your noodles to be; I like it al dante so I remind her not to cook it too soft. Fish meat vermicelli is flavourful as well. The fish meat is fresh and tasty. Personally, I feel the apom by the road is very very expensive. The taste is just so-so but the price is almost double the price other sellers in Pulau Tikus/Tg Tokong/Tg Bungah. People sell RM3-4/5 pieces, this one selling at RM6/5 pieces. It’s ridiculous! 😌 Patrons should remember to put parking tickets, otherwise you’ll have to pay MBPP fines for illegal parking.

New Cathay Cafe is one of my favorite breakfast in Penang. Glad to be back here in July 2023 after 3 years of pandemic and lockdown periods. Already know this place for years but ended up having the same favorite dish : Wantan Mee Soup or Kweetiau Soup. Its really good having the tasty and warm noodle soup in the morning before any activities. It will boost your mood. Glad to know that after a while the taste of wantan mee is still as delicious as before. They have also good coffee, black and sweet to make my tummy happier. Happy tummy happy me 😁😁

The apom balik near the kopitiam is very delicious ! We ordered the special apom balik and it only costs Rm2.50. We also ordered the half boiled eggs and a sets of roti Bakar. The roti bakar was meh, probably because I’m not too familiar with the bread + butter taste. KL usually comes with kaya. Overall it’s a nice kopitiam ! Has plenty of choices here

Apom - try the one without egg and another one with egg - is good!! It’s the right amount of sweet so that it doesn’t overwhelm you. Coffee is thick and tasty too. My friends said that the curry mee is good, but I didn’t get to try it that day. Prawn mee was pretty good (but didn’t blow my mind) - got roasted pork inside which was a nice surprise.

This shop opens in the morning and shuts in the noon so it's a good place for an early breakfast. The variety of food is good too - hokkien mee, pan cake, apom ($4 for 5), dim sum stuff like siu mai, char siu pau, etc. The roof is quite low so it gets a bit stuffy there and parking is very difficult (we went at 1130hrs). Wish I had found this place earlier!

I am originally from China and have been in Singapore for 10+ years. This is the best Kaya toast I have ever had in this zone! Toast inside very crispy but outside not burnt black. Plus the homemade Kaya Jam having the authentic flavor with no “artificial and strong” sweetness at all. It is the amazing combination! Other local delights like Char Kuey Teow, fried noodle/rice ... all of good quality and at reasonable price. Highly recommend if you are looking for a breakfast/brunch place in George Town of Penang.

If you want to have a good breakfast, you can come here. (Original)

I love the Koay Chiap at this kopitiam. The thinly rolled up rice noodles in this herbal duck broth is just amazing. Garnished with duck-meat, pig’s 'cheong', hard-boiled egg and tofu, topped with golden fried garlic and garnished with fresh coriander sprigs. I takeaway as the coffee shop was busy. Will be back to try their other food.

Popular place for breakfast and lunch, rather crowded, fortunately, the tables are well spaced out according to SOP. Not all the stalls are open but food is good and prices are reasonable. Service is fast. Normally difficult to get parking spaces but today, I have no problems with parking.

Great kopitiam with a variety of great-tasting food. I've tried the Koay Chap, Mee Jawa, Chee Cheong Fun, and Curry Mee—all delicious! Make sure to order from the Sai Ram Penang Famous Apom Manis stall right outside, they can bring your order to your table in the kopitam.

Food tasted ok especially Wan Thun Mee (wonton noodle) drinks soso as abit tasteless. Parking is the major problem. Need park shoplot beside.

Love their Curry Laksa and banana pancake. The Kuih Chap is a bit disappointing as the broth was a bit weak/ not flavorful. If you have problem looking for a place to park, try across the road (behind the bank).

Probably the best hawker I have been to in Penang, for the variety of food and most importantly for the taste. I haven't tried all but the white curry mee, the dry pan mee, the roti babi, the prawn mee and the CKT (not in the photos) were delicious.

A very busy coffeeshop with lots of choices. We tried the pork bun from the roadside stall at the other corner. Took the one with egg, which is the over-hard egg wrapped around the pork meat. Nice. Only I cannot get used to the sweet soft buns with something salty in between. But that is personal. We also tried the apom with sunny side up egg (with a very runny yolk! great!). It is presented on a very thin very crispy pancake which serves as 'plate' for the egg. Something rare, but nothing fancy. It's eating like half-boiled egg and you can also eat your plate :-).

Quite a lot of stalls selling hawker fare here. Very good iced coffee

Revisited this kopitiam for its hokkien mee which is no longer as good. Broth was quite diluted. But I do like the white curry mee here, above average. Apom is as usual, delicious.

We saw a few people waiting for the wanton mee and thought it might be good. Wrong. It was below average and RM6 for small portions. Quite disappointing

Tasted the white curry, apom. Food tastes good. Curry has the right tang, not too spicy, not too sweet. Definitely one of the top places for white curry.

One of my go to places in Penang. Loads of variety to choose from and food are great there. Don’t recommend the coffee there though, quite hard to find good coffee in Penang. Parking might be an issue if you drive.

It’s a busy hawker centre known for its breakfast crowd. We barely found a parking spot around and also just a table enough for the 5 of us. We enjoyed our breakfast there, most notably the Apom manis!

Kuay chap was good. Apom was average - not crispy. Chee cheong fun was decent. Curry noodle was decent. Variety of food available.

Picked this by random coz it's near the Loh Guan Lye hospital, and opening hours are earlier than other breakfast places. Tried char kwetiaw and wan tan noodle, also tried Penang's apom manis. All is middle, not bad, but not so special, However, there's more stalls with various breakfast menus, will come back to taste later.

Tried the Jawa Mee (Noodle) here for beeakfast. Taste : 7/10, ingredient: 10/10 (big portion not only noodles) service: forgetful so have to remind. Wan tan mee taste has dropped. Curry mee very bad compared to the original stall at air itam market.

One of the famous coffeeshops that closed on Sunday (based on comments from others), this place serves a variety of foods to choose from. The famous banana raisin pancakes are a must buy for my point of view. Jawa mee and roti Babi are good to eat too. Cheap and good food. Service is ok as most hawkers apply to self service instead of waiting tables. The place may be overcrowded sometimes, so do come early to avoid long waits. Ample parking for early comers.
