Came to Kheng Pin not for the Lor Bak but for the highly recommended Hainanese Chicken Rice that apparently Singaporeans compare to the ones served at Mandarin Orchard. The Chicken Rice was no doubt outstanding, the meat was tender and the balance of sesame oil, chicken stock and soya sauce brings out the full flavour. However, at RM18.00 per large portion (full leg and liver), it is rather expensive.

An old guard of George Town. It still serves the basic local authentic street food. If you are searching for the food soul of Penang, you have come to the right place. One star missing is because i hate the amenities like basic washrooms are generally lack of attention. Good food and reasonable price. Food operators observed very good hygienic manner. All face masks were properly put up. I didn't see any foreign helpers in the coffee shops.

We visited the coffee shop for Lor Bak. But the lor bak has not reach my expection. Not too bad but it is not that special as rated. The coffee and tea were badly brew. It was tasteless and so diluted So unexpected to have this standard of coffee in Penang.

Love the steam chicken rice so much. Tender marinated and smooth chicken. The rice and soup was superb. Good price. The coffee shop is clean and tidy.

One of the better ones in Penang for good old classic Penang hawker food fares! If you’re looking for a place to have loh bak in the morning, this place would surely satisfy your craving and not only that, CKT is also a must order too! Well in fact the other food serves at this place as well heheh Highly recommended!

This old, non-aircon coffeeshop has many stalls selling local food, but the only food that would make me come back again is the Lor Bak and prawn fritters. Char Kuey Teow is pretty decent too!

One of those old time kopitiam in downtown Georgetown, Penang. Most of the stalls are run by old timers. The lobak here is very good. Fresh ingredients, crunchy & not oily. The porridge here is pretty good too. Tried the char kuey teow & is certainly up to par with those famous Penang ckt stalls - good wok hei ! As for the wanton mee, maybe not bad by Penang standards but certainly can’t compared to those wtm in KL but good value though as a small plate cost Rm5 but comes with chicken slices, mushrooms, char siew & wantons. Usually packed during mornings, it’s rather empty during our recent visit during MCO period. Limited seating & tables, not suitable for large groups.

The one place I go to to satisfy my Lobak craving. Just mix and match whatever you want. The items are fried golden brown and serve to you with a starchy black sauce with chilli sauce. The uncle is a very nice guy. You could also do preorders to go, some customers will bring back as far as Kuala Lumpur. Also if you're planning to done in, you will be forced to order a drink, otherwise you pay RM0.50 whether or not you order something to eat. The shop lot is probably managed by them, so the stall owners probably won't cover for the charges. Its strange but it's a norm in Penang for some reason. 🤣

Chicken rice was really delicious! The young girl preparing the chicken rice was really nice to give me some drumstick meat as I wanted some and it was sold out! I ordered two plates!

Old coffeeshop at the corner. Good place to get your hawker food fix. They have ckt, hokkien mee, lor mee, lor bak and wan tan mee. All were good except ckt abit too salty. Prices are reasonable.

Suggested by my uncle, who claims their prawn mee surpasses what we have back home. At 9 am, the stall appeared shut, but it was operational, so appearances can be deceiving! Opting for the dry prawn noodles, the portion was modest yet satisfying, and the flavor was rich. While I wouldn't assert it's superior to our local choice, I'd say it's on par!

The lobak is something you must try. Apart from that I will also recommend the char kuay teow, hokkien mee and the nasi lemak. Basically all foods here looks delicious. Salute to all the old uncles and aunties are healthy to make delicious food for us.

[sibeh holiao] 1) overall - nostalgic-feel open air hawker environment, friendly and fast service, plenty of selection to choose from, cheap price for good food, good choice of food to go for Kheng Pin Cafe 群宾茶餐室 2) Nasi Lemak - plenty of dishes to choose from/economy rice look alike, sambal tasted good, overall dishes tasted above average, potato was cooked to perfection, sambal got a thumbs up from my family 3) Fried kuey teow was served fast and yummy, portion was generous, tasted awesome without much gravy, considered a dried-type of fried kuey teow, it was really good 4) prawn mee was awesome, plenty of fried onion and prawn made the broth marvelously good, portion was big too. highly recommended 5) Lobak was one of the best in Penang, presented golden brown than the normal darker lobak, crispy from the outside but tender inside, deep fried to perfection 6) wan tan mee tasted good too. it was a little wet compared to the typical wan tan mee. 7) porridge was full of flavour, salted egg, minced pork, you tiao, century egg... hmmm... so yum..

We went there twice in 2 days for breakfast. The lobak is exceptionally good 👍🏼 and they have variety of fried items that you could choose from. We also tried their char k teow with duck egg - big prawns ok, and nasi lemak - felt the fried chicken is a little over fried. We also tried the prawn mee & loh mee from the same store. Prefer prawn mee more as the flavour is tasty and not very big bowl. Good for testing with several people.

My frequent breakfast haunt. Went for Lor Hokkien Mee and Lobak today. The Lor Hokkien Mee has 3 prawns inside. A gem these days. It cost only RM5 for a small bowl. My lobak portion were consisting of 3 prawn fritters, 1 lobak and 1 tofu. Lobak cost RM14.50. The tofu was moist and smooth inside. Prawn fritters were crunchy. A hot black coffee drink cost RM1.50. I will return again.

Local Kafe at the mainstreet corner closed to the hotels. You will find generally all local food, which are all good, clean and affordable. This is not a chain kafe, so u have to go find your own table , order drinks from the server who approaches you and shop around different dishes u like. They will bring the dishes to your table where you will pay. Go talk to Annie who is very friendly and she sells very good 'Nesi lemak' too

A one stop shop of goodness in my opinion, this place has a lot of great food from chicken rice to Lor back to Hokkien mee. Just be sure to get there before or after the lunch crowd. Highly recommend checking this place out as it’s sure to check many of your Penang food boxes

Food quality dropped drastically Loh bak no longer to die for The new hokkien mee stall, is bad. The broth is so watered down. Tourists dont mind i guess but as a Penangite i cannot accept the less authentic hokkien mee that doesnt taste prawn doesnt taste pork ribs Maybe it's cooked from the processed mixture paste Nasi lemak remains, not bad. Overall, go with no expectation then you are fine

Very friendly service from Lorbak stall owner compared to alot of places in Penang. Had a few bad encounters elsewhere but this one last coffee shop we visited changed our impression of Penang. All the food from every stall there is delicious as well, especially the charkueyteow, lorbak, and chicken rice! Just fantastic!

Very nice lo bak, probably the best in town! Beside lobak there is also chicken rice ( the chicken is tender and juice, some claim that the lady boss is very fierce but to me she is fine), porridge, hokkian mee etc . Worth the visit

The coffee shop owner very dishonest. 2 glass of drinks charge RM6.20. Ask for the breakdown, kopi RM3.00, chrysanthemum tea hot RM3.20. This is the most expensive warm chrysanthemum tea I had and the taste was weird! If u choose to dine-in without order drinks, RM0.50 will be charged. Think twice before enter the coffee shop.

A kopitiam that has been here way before I was born. Famous for its Loh Bak and chicken rice. Chicken rice is probably the best you can find in Penang, super flavorful and aromatic rice, smooth chicken. Get ready to queue though. Loh Bak had very well fried prawn biscuit, Loh Bak, and delicious tofu, though the dipping sauce is disappointing, but still satisfactory. Good luck finding parking and a seat during lunchtime.

As a thoroughbred Penangite, I am always happy to revisit Kheng Pin Cafe endlessly as the place has all the Penang food you need and remember (or will remember!). Below are photos of some of the food at Kheng Pin Cafe — with details to follow.

Good lor bak & fried taufoo. Decent prawn mee (extra prawns added). Decent char kuay teow. All the aunty's and uncle's running the food stalls were very patient and nice inspite of the crowds. One downside - drinks are diluted and not served hot (as it should be for hot drinks) as per other reviews. A shame for a chinese coffee shop. Make an effort and carry your own morning coffee to avoid disappointment ;-) Photo of drinks area.

Local coffee shop vibe with many locals here. Ate the lobak and it only costs 6 ringgit. Also had the prawn noodle which is very reasonably priced. Lobak was very good! Should try it

Did not plan to come here but decided to as I was around the vicinity. Loh bak is good -ordered prawn fritters, tofu and lor bak only. All crispy and tasty but Tan Jetty's specifically lorbak still tastiest in my opinion. Agree that the dark sauce is overly starchy but I like that the chilli is not overly sweet. Rating 8/10 on Loh bak. As for the wantan mee, the noodle was way too soft far from being aldente. Green chilli also was soft, not with the usual crunch. Sauce was too watery and tastes/smells weird with the slight sesame oil. Rating 3/10. Perhaps he overblanched the noodle. Uncle was very generous when I asked for more chilli, service wise, I give him 5 stars even if food wasn't great.

The oldie vibes is strong here. From the chairs to the cup and the surrounding. Lobak was good stuff! The person who take order isn't the friendliest. U basically tell them the siZe u want but what's damn weird is they dnt give u everything. Some items need to add on, they dnt encourage you ask banyak2. The wantan mee was decent. More sesame oil taste topped with wantan, mushroom, char siew and chicken slice without a bowl of hot soup. Hokkien mee was a little diluted; the CKT wok hey seems a little lacking.

Offer various menu from stalls within the kopi tiam. I recommend the Nasi Lemak, Char kiew tiaw, Lobak.. and the hot drinks seems infuse with gula melaka. Dont miss this place in your visit to Penang

Had to try the famed lor bak place when in Penang. When we we there, we ordered the wan ton mee (dumplings with noodles) and hokkien mee (prawn noodles). The lor bak tasted more like shrimp than pork to me. But I find it to be quite ok still. Not sure if they were out of tofu or they don't have it at all. Another item to look out for is the shrimp crackers. The wan ton noodles were pretty standard. The hokkien noodles were da bomb tho. Pretty happy to have come across this shop. The coffee shop is located at a corner of a street. Parking enforcement is pretty strict though, so you'd might want to consider parking at a proper place. Also seating is pretty limited, so you might have to share a table with someone. Overall this little collection of a few hawker stalls should be enough to keep one happy.

The best Chicken Rice and the best Lobak in town. A must visit. Better to be early than to be sorry for the food. They have other food as well that is tasty.open for lunch time only. Enjoy

The lobak is crispy, but I disagree with it being the best lobak. Firstly, the ingredient is just average, the sweet sauce overly starchy and it is rather pricey. The ambra drink was lousy and expensive.

Such a yummy find! Loved the prawn mee with pork ribs, wonton mee and char kuay teow are all very good also! We got there around 11:30 and there was a few tables left, but it got really busy at 12!

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
