1/4/22 Update: Annalakshmi now charges on a per pax basis of RM10 (RM12 Fridays) per entry. The buffet concept is still the same. Food is still as delicious 😋 -------------------------- Penang's most underrated Indian vegetarian restaurant. Everything is voluntary. The cooks cooking the dishes are voluntary. The guests/customers eating the food also pays a voluntary amount. Yes, that's right. Food is laid out in trays, claypots, and bowls. Queue up, scoop your portions, and eat. Do note that each cup is for a particular dish and Annalakshmi volunteers would appreciate it if guests didn't scoop curry into small bowls/cups meant for dessert/water. Place your donations into the empty cheque cover near the kitchen counter. I'm almost here on a weekly basis. My favourite is EVERYTHING from the fragrant rice to the curries, fried vegetables, and dessert. I have nothing but ❤️ for Annalakshmi. 😋

Here you get a home-cooked Indian buffet with many vegan options. Set within a quiet small temple, this place offers a daily changing buffet spread. The dishes are delicious and you can eat until you’re full. RM15 (~3€) per person as of November 2023.

Coming to Annalakshmi for lunch is like coming home to share food with family. I was very welcomed and was kindly informed which foods are 100% plant-based (no ghee, milk or paneer). They even made separate chapatis without ghee for me, which is very considerate of them! Oh and they are delicious! The food is rich in flavor and contains many healthy herbs and spices. No food was too spicy for me, it is all well-balanced. If you are sensitive to salt (like me), try out little portions of each dish to compare, as they can differ quite a lot sometimes. The atmosphere is very peaceful, has nice decorations and calm background music to enjoy your meal. You'll get a lot of smiles from the staff and all the help/info you need. We will come back here each time when visiting Penang for sure! <3

Now they have the RM9 set lunch concept, which is an improvement. In the past when we pay by donation, is difficult to estimate how much we should pay. Is 100% vegetarian food, and the food has a unique homey taste. They have many ideas in cooking vegetarian dishes. We are served with so many variety of dishes, including coffee, tea and cold drinks. I love the atmosphere here, serene and homely, embedded with Indian culture.

Probably serves one of the best authentic Pure Indian vegetarian food in the country. I couldn’t post other pictures of the food as too engrossed eating it. So only manage this photo of my lassi instead . But believe me , to get an amazing food outside India is impossible but this place probably next best thing , For malaysia standards of coz . So it situated inside a place called Temple of Fine Arts , an NGO organization in KL & Penang . U can Google them !! They are popular!!

Hi. Nice environment, very classy yet traditional. Honestly this is my first time here in this place and google did not indicate me that this is a vegetarian shop. As i brought in mcd porridge for my 1 year old son, the staff did not notice it when i enter the place. I sat at the last table and was feeding my son. All of a sudden a lady informed me that 'this is a vegetarian restaurant and how come you not aware of that and you can't feed non veg to your son here'. I'm totally fine with this situation but the lady could have informed me in better manner and hopefully the management look into this issue. I would suggest the management to put up vegetarian board or no outside food board for some first timers like myself. So we can be alert. Luckily my son did not throw any tantrum when i stop feeding him suddenly. Just imagine about some kids and the parents situation if their kid throw some heavy tantrums. Not all the kids will accept when we stop feeding them only after 3 spoons of food. Thank you.

Very nice and accommodating people and interesting experience dining barefoot, because the place is located next to a temple. 12 ringgit for all you can eat. Food was a bit too salty to my taste, but delicious. They showed which dish was vegan and which not after we explained them we don't eat any animal product. They even made chapati without ghee for us💕

Pure vegetarian Indian food served in a peaceful ambience. Have the concept of pay as you wish where the money will be going for the charities. During festive seasons, various Indian classical arts can be enjoyed and weekly classes are also going on to promote such arts. Now they have the concept of fixed price for certain items which is extremely fine as we may sometimes feels confused on how much to pay considering quality of food served. Food is prepared and served in homely atmosphere and delicious too away from the city life.

Visit on 22 July 2017: Went there for the daily "Pay What You Want" lunch buffet. According to my mum, the spread is less and not as good as it used to be. Still, food is fresh, well seasoned and balanced. A nice peaceful Al fresco dining area by the garden, nice and compassionate vibe in a residential area. Nothing fancy, not a huge selection of food, just home cooked style Indian vegetarian food. Helpers here are all volunteers too, and they are friendly and hospitable toward everyone. Parking usually isn't a problem.

Garden type large seating area at the back of an old style building.. Serves great home style South Indian vegetarian fare. Less spicy to suit patrons most of them non Indians. Great customer care goes with it. The volunteers are very kind and welcoming. Well worth multiple visits.. Highly recommended

The environment is calming and relaxing. Nice chapati, also got to try something never tried and new, reasonable price with unlimited refill. Service was superb, very friendly, helpful and polite. Nice indiam vegetarian place, worthier than banana leaf set anywhere else.

Great atmosphere and environment. Daily fresh food are served for lunch. However, the spread is less, its overpriced (even for TFA students to take-away lunch) and the food is not as good as it used to be. Student rate should be charged for take-home lunches too, for TFA students. Overrall, its okay, and these aspects could be further improved in future. In future, I hope they also consider opening the restaurant for breakfast and dinner too, for the students who attend classes at TFA and for the parents who wait back for their kids - especially during Navarathiri performance practises where TFA students have to stay back late for extra classes.

A wonderful temple dedicated to fine arts where you can eat from the wonderful vegetarian buffet. Delicious generous food where you can eat what you like and what ever you give goes a long way towards supporting the activities of Annalakshmi & her sisters concerns... You may be helping the lady who washes the dishes to educate her child... Or you may be helping a child who looks longingly at the temple of fine arts’ dancers or musicians, wishing she could be part of them but not daring to burden further her financially stretched parents... Or you could be helping the the organisation to treat patients at Klinik Derma Sivasanta, who come to the centre knowing fully well that they will be treated with tender loving care.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
