👍 The chicken rice here is very fragrant and the chicken is tasty and quite moist. I had both the roasted and steam chicken and both are lovely. The chili sauce is good too. Parking here though can be a challenge but luckily I was staying across the street so was an easy walk over. Nothing much to expect, overrated chicken rice with overcharged price. Michelin is a bad joke. Rice tasted bland compared to most of Melaka chicken rice. Chicken has no char/ fragrant at all, purely relying on the soy sauce. Melaka Chicken Rice tastes better.

Stumbled across this restaurant while walking towards Mugshot cafe. Tried their roasted chicken rice and it was a good decision. The fragrant rice is absolutely amazing and the soy sauce on the chicken taste great as well. I wouldn't think you are crazy if you were to eat it as a soup. Reasonably priced as well.

Ordered a drumstick chicken served with super fragant rice for just RM7.50. Friendly lady boss. Total satisfaction.

Clean environment with friendly staff, the service is fantastic but the chicken is alright. Rice & soup are not the most aromatic, but the chilli and chicken (sauce) is good. Tender meat with fresh cucumbers and chives. For MYR7.50 it is a decent plate of chicken rice.

Love their steamed chicken rice! Taste legit like the Hainanese version! I’ll say is better than Singapore’s! Suitable for solo traveller! Not awkward at all!

I must question, how do they get Michelin recognition? Their food, the chicken rice to compare with Vietnamese Com Ga Tam Ky (Cơm gà Tam Kỳ) Tam Ky Chicken Rice, the Vietnamese Tam Ky Chicken rice is way better. The portion is super small and taste has something like bitter. And the service is super slow, I had to for more than 30 minutes to be served. A white man who came in after me even got served first. After the guy left I have my food. But one good thing is that the staffs are not rude which I like.

Prices are a bit on the heavier side but personally love it because the rice is so fragrant and the chicken is the right kind of salty. Everyone there speaks English so that's a plus for expats. :)

This was recommended by our hotel. Great chicken and rice. Very local. Great chili sauce with garlic as a side sauce to use to your liking. Chicken was very tasty. Went there twice and the owners welcomed us back with a big smile. Probably were surprised that we returned as we clearly are not local! Cannot be beat for 6 RM!! But it is not just inexpensive it is very good. When a restaurant has only one thing on the menu it tends to be very good.

Hands down the best chicken rice I've ever had! The chicken was incredibly tender and flavourful, and the rice perfectly fragrant and fluffy. The portion sizes were generous, and the accompanying sauces added just the right amount of kick. If you're a fan of chicken rice, this place is an absolute must-visit!

The taste of chicken is just normal chicken rice, but the owner is very rude, she didn't even listen to what we order and give us whatever there is leftover. Deeply overrated and not recommend for anyone.

Food is decent but shopkeepers charges a premium for tourists as compared to locals. The pricing is rather arbitrary and I do not appreciate paying a Tourist tax.

Delicious roasted chicken, perfectly tender and well salted. Service was subpar, mostly because it’s too crowded especially at lunch time. Portion for a single person is too small in my opinion. The soup was too watery. The rice was ok, a bit hard and dry for my taste.

Best chicken rice I’ve ever eaten so far!!! ❤️ We got the steamed one and it was heavenly. Chicken was very tender, and the sauce was flavorful without being too oily. The hainan rice was fragrant enough for me. Chili sauce was amazing; slightly sweet and really garlicky, a good complement to the overall dish. Soup tasted really clean and light yet still has that chicken broth flavor. As opposed to some people would say bland, I would say the soup was flavorful at the right amount; just right to help clean your palate after eating the hainan chicken rice. Quite sad we forgot to get the chicken liver. A must-try when visiting Penang especially if you love chicken rice. Would definitely come back here when I get to visit Penang again!

Quick service and good food! We got veggies, rice, soup, chicken (roasted and steamed) and some liver. We ended up having leftovers as well because the portions were quite large! The ladies working were friendly and efficient. This place hit the spot!

It's just okay. I'll try other outlets in Georgetown for my final verdict to determine whether it's one of the best. If any consolations, the auntie is nice and friendly.

Exceeded expectations, come hungry , leave satisfied! Very tender and flavourful chicken. Absolutely delish!! Best lunch in Georgetown

I love the sauce of the chicken and the chili sauce! Very worthy the price with portion given. Business so good and the shop is crowded during lunch hour.

Both the roasted and blanched chicken are exquisite, well complemented by the soy sauce while the rice has good texture and flavour. A well deserved listing on Michelin's Penang guidebook but I'd argue they should get the "bib gourmand'. Not that the Michelin adjudicators are actually skillful in Malaysian cuisines. Taste factor: 9.3/10 (as goods as chicken rice gets) Return factor: A recurring visit

Stumbled upon this chicken rice eatery about a year ago when looking for something decent to feed my family. It is now our must visit whenever we are in Penang. Third visit since then and it is still serving the same delicious chicken rice. All agreed we will be back again for more.

This chicken rice place is amazing. And for good reason too. They have a work system that is efficient, they have consistent quality, and the people there are awesome. THE SOUP OMG. Its smack dab in the middle of Georgetown so parking is going to be a little difficult yes, but i assure your patience will be rewarded. The coffee is good too.

Old style Hainan chicken rice. Famous among local! Just only parking limited around that area if you come by car.

  • 2/5 yanni H. 8 months ago on Google
Prime food offer is Hainan chicken, meat texture is too soft, no taste of chicken that oughta be. Rice taste good and not oily but the raw grain quality is damn poor. Service is minimal, might as well skip this if not for curious.

Juicy tender chicken and fragrant rice. The sauces were also a perfect compliment, very garlicky and savoury, not the sweet styles in many other places we’ve tried which isn’t as authentic. Place is also clean and comfortable. Staff are friendly and attentive, and efficient - classic old school 😊

The best chicken rice i ever had in Penang!! Portion quite generous eventho I asked for Ayam Tambah 😅😂. Im so starving that's why I asked to add more chicken. The portion for Ayam Tambah is enough for two person. It cost me RM 13.50(Nov 2023). The stall owner very friendly. She so kindly to entertain me. There is no Pork serving here, just Chicken. Highly recommend. Please do try it whenever you are at Chulia Street Penang. Definitely will always coming back. Thank you, Aunty for Having me. Im enjoyed my meal so much 🙏

Still one of the best if not the best chicken rice in Penang. Have been eating this chicken rice since I was a kid. Do come early on the place may be very packed.

We’ve been coming here almost every single day since we arrived in Penang. The place is always full of locals. One of the ladies who works here is very sweet. Roasted chicken is always served hot, moist and tender, nice hainanese rice and veggies. All makes up for a very wholesome meal.

  • 5/5 Melody C. 1 year ago on Google
The rice itself tastes very good. The steamed chicken is good but the roasted chicken for me was abit overcooked. Soup is good, not as salty as the typical soup from other kopitiams. The strange thing is that the chili sauce is more salty than the soy sauce 😅 but overall, still worth to try, i'd come back for the rice and steamed chicken alone.

Taste OK, not too expensive, but the chicken served got plenty of bones tho, unlike others chicken rice served by others with minimal bones

Take away 1 packet of normal set chicken rice cost Rm5, cheap and delicious no doubt.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
