Coffee shops like these are popular in Penang as they house many different types of local favourites in one place. Old Green House has the usual suspects, like hokkien mee, curry mee, bak kut teh, lor mee, and some standouts like the porridge with poached chicken. While everything is passable, they are all in no way the best or very good. That's why Penangites really wonder how some stalls can actually be considered by Michelin even. But it is what it is. Oh, do try the poached chicken from the porridge shop. It's a standout.

The porridge & steam 🐔 are the best in PG. Silky smooth meat paired with good quality soy sauce makes it delicious. The wait is quite long for this stall, so have a little patience. The bak kut teh is also good. The famous prawn noodle here is just simply overrated. There's many other better ones in PG. It's a self-service stall & their broth is very light in taste. Expensive & less ingredients.

As far as hawkers markets go, this one was on the dirtier side. I instantly regret trying the raw oysters, when I bit into the first of a dozen and had the most bitter assault on my taste buds. Yes, nobody eats the raw oysters, but I was still curious and they were cheap-ish. But needing to serve them covered with ice, a 10 year old bottle of Tabasco, and a wedge of lemon per oyster should've clued me into what they were trying to hide. The other dishes were underwhelming. From the not quite salty enough kweitiao, to the overcooked oyster pancakes, to the really chewy bahkutteh. Watered down lime juice, lukewarm beer, wash water wet bowls and plates. Anybody is lucky to survive this place without a good night spent lurched over a toilet. And the food didn't even taste good.

Didnt have prawn mee cos sold out at 1140pm. Had oyster omelette rm20. It was alright. Felt healthier than our usuals at kedai kopi seng thor which is crispier and more oil. Dim sum was rm16. 2 nutmeg drinks were rm4. Total rm40 for 2 pax for a satisfying supper on 6/10/22.

The porridge is so yums. Smooth and silky, pairs really well with the poached chicken. A douse of that soy sauce and sesame oil, oh my, comfort food at its best. Great for a little late night supper. I felt the curry noodles were okay. Frankly, we’ve tasted better and it ended up being a little tad spicy for my liking.

I believe the most famous thing from old green house is the prawn noodle which we got. It is not bad indeeed Second to that was the bak kut teh which is of course the herbal kind . The soup I would say is very good However the service of the bak kut teh was a let down and was extremely slow ( over 30 min) and with the flow of people in this place it seems like forever Nonetheless good is good when it finally came

The hokkien mee is gooddddd. But consider a bit expensive for me but its ok since there is one and a half braised egg and huge amount of scrimp in it. The braised egg is a must try item if you order the hokkien mee. On the other hand, the bak kut teh is just normal lah. Nothing special and surprising but overall still edible. The portion for the rice is way way way too small, my friend had to order another 2 extra bowl of rice to fill his tummy.

This place has some great food. I came here after reading reviews on Google maps. None of us were disappointed Great selection of food including some incredible prawn noodle soup and a real tasty clay pot store. Definitely one of the better hawker areas I've been too in George town

Mondays most of the popular places were closed for business in George Town, Penang. So we were recommended to this shop for their 'hokkien mee' or prawn mee as is known as in PJ and KL. Well, would say it's one of the better ones here. Tasty soup base, need to add more chilli paste to enhance the taste. Added the roasted pork belly and braised pork ribs for two bowls....came to rm27. The loh bak and the oyster Omelette was ok only.

With the exception of the oyster and curry mee, the rest were a dismal fail. The so-called Michelin Prawn noodles was a con job in my opinion. The broth was paper thin and hardly any aroma or taste of the prawns. Never ask a kwai loh to judge the quality of Penang food.

Local experience Food: most people come for the prawn noodles but the white curry and porridge is rather good too. Try these if you wanna skip the long queue for the Hokkien mee Environment: busy restaurant. Can park opposite or along the roadside of the residential area (park responsibly) Price: reasonably priced

Came here for the prawn mee but found something else even better here. If you ever visit this place, try the char kuey teow and forget about the over-rated Michrlin prawn mee. The char kuey teow was not oily, yet had the wok hey taste with big prawns and springy kuey teow. Evem the oyster egg is better than the prawn mee!

One of the best hokkien mee at night! Must try with their pork ribs. Not a fan of loh mee and worth the try! There’s bak kut teh too and it’s quite decent as well!

Michelin Star Hokkien Mee - Prawn Noodle Soup really is the magnet that draws everyone here and I can tell you they deserved it. Rm6 only should have added roast pork! Apart from that the porridge served with silky white chicken is another hidden gem here. Rm8 for porridge rm7 for chicken All price are reasonable and lovely serving crew Also added a bahkutteh to fulfill the day Taste above average But this restaurant definitely a gem! Highly recommended and would definitely come back again

This is first time I come to this prawn mee. Very recommended Porridges not recommend Our verdict; F, perfectly cooked rice, fragrant soup with hint of refreshing ginger. Tofu and eggs could be braised deeper though, as the soy sauce is the thin and brown kind. Suitable for people who like original taste and not too heavy seasoning.

Well known for it's prawn noodles. Taste wise is good, the broth has a thick prawn flavour as well. There's no ac and can be rather hot during the day time.

Would advise against ordering the Loh bak. Ordered two strips of lobak, two pieces of prawn fritters and the tofu, was charged a ridiculous RM18 for the plate. Even more expensive than the ochien plate we ordered. Nothing great about the lobak

Serving nice food, price range is mid-high. Prawn mee is nice and can add extra dishes at extra costs. One star * for lobah here! " lobah " is expensive and normal. Dont risk to try.

Had the char kuey Teow - 2 large fresh Prawns were given. However, the noodle itself was disappointing. Lacked the flavour, balance of spicyness wasn't there as well. Cockles were too small, and did not get the taste of wok hei. Had the prawn mee too by another stall, broth was too sweet to my liking, however, very generous amount of baby Prawns given. Served with century egg.

Had penang hokkien mee (prawn noodle), fried oyster omelette, dim sum, chicken...and everything is so delicious! Place was so busy and packed but very well organised. Had an enjoyable and wonderful dinner...Will definitely return! Price is very reasonable too 😊

RM6.50 per small bowl of standard prawn mee. Add non spicy cili sauce to a better touch of taste. Parking can be find opposite it which is in front Him Heang that closed at 3pm.

Very popular among tourists and some locals. More seating at the back end of the restaurant. IMHO, food is just above average per Penang island standard. The curry noodle required the sambal paste added to bring out the real white curry taste. May come back for the porridge.

One of the famous dining place for locals. Always full house and be prepared to spend some time to get seats. Ba kut teh, steamed chicken, porridge, prawn mee and etc. #greenhouse #restaurant #chinese #food #dinner #georgetown #penang

Ordered Hokkien Mee with extra pork bone (RM10). Price considered on the high side due to average taste and (less) thickness of the broth.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
