Always hear a lot of people saying that Bali Hai food is delicious. This is my first and my last visit. I think all their staff really dislike working there. The way their staff served us was very unpleasant, from ordering food, asking for toilet directions, asking for extra plates. During payment, the attitude of the staff is ok...even though the food is delicious, but I don't like the service...I will not going back because the food is delicious, not tolerance with the faces of their staff .

Very delicious food, fresh directly from the pool, they have all kind of seafood you imagine, different types of crabs and pawns and lobesters and fish too, expensive but worth all the money

We used to love coming here. Unfortunately our last visit left us with a very bad experience. There was a oldish waiter in particular that would just ignore us and serve other tables around us. When we did manage to get his attention, he would just ask us to wait and then walk off and then served other tables that called him after us. At first we didn't think much about it. But it was blatantly obvious he was playing favourites. Disappointing behaviour from an establishment like this.

A decent place for live seafood. Overall, seafood here is fresh and prices are a bit steeper but still reasonable. The eating area was very clean and quite cooling. Tables are far enough from each other to enjoy privacy and we had a very pleasant dining experience. Ordered a small chilli crab (crab was RM75 for 0.5kg) and fried mantou. Although I did request for them to reconfirm the weight and price after weighing/ before cooking, they forgot. But they seem quite honest and did not overcharge us. The crab was delicious but slightly on the sweeter side. Also ordered salted egg squid and shangtang soup vegetables. Both were very tasty and recommended. The portions were very generous for both dishes (quite worth for ‘small’ portion) and good for sharing with bigger groups.

Been coming to this restaurant since it was not this big. Great food as usual but a bit disappointed with the cheese baked lobster. Lots of cheese and not so much lobster meat inside (and we picked a big lobster). We felt a bit cheated actually. Other than that the food is awesome. Will definitely go back but definitely not ordering the cheese baked lobster anymore.

Went over at 2:20 pm. Restaurant closed at 3 pm. Food serve very fast 4 dishes and 3 rice. They cleaned up as fast as we finished. No Time to eat slow as it's closing time. Services worse than the coffee shop. Don't dine in if you want to enjoy your food.

Seafood is fresh and all dishes cooked to perfection. As mentioned by many, this isn't a cheap meal by any means but for a nice setting, great service and live seafood, we couldn't fault it.

Tourist trap. RM400 for 3 pax. Nice ambience but the food was disappointing and really average. The squid, prawns and crab were all overcooked and dry. First time in my life we get charged additional Rm10 for “extra flavour.” Not worth the price in my opinion.

Hands down one of the best places for seafood in Penang at reasonable prices, good spot to enjoy the balmy sea breeze, get your hands dirty and tummy full with some hearty fresh seafood, I love me some lobster sashimi!

Famous tourist seafood place. the prices here are a little bit hiked up, the food is definitely worth it. If you from other countries, should try this empurau (Farm not wild) fish is reasonable price

Ordered two crabs and some other dishes. Tasty but quite pricy. The seafood is fresh, the staff are friendly.

This place is definitely a tourist place with overrated reviews. Their seafood, no doubt, is fresh, but you're paying much more compared to other restaurants. The taste is just average, nothing unique or special about their menu.

Highly recommended seafood restaurant in Gurney! Select your selection of seafood in the tanks in the back and enjoy at your table moments later! The chili crab was divine! I could gave taken home a tub if the sauce! This dining experience is a joy for the tastebuds!

Food was great, ambiance was good. Tried Chili, pepper and salted egg crabs. I highly recommend Chili and pepper crabs. For the Chili crabs is quite similar to jumbo seafood in Singapore but I would say is better, is more spicy and not as sweet as jumbo. My 9years old girl love the pepper crabs, is not very spicy but yet flavourful. Food was definitely fresh for my case. Our server was not pushy on order, very patient on taking orders and when I check my bill as well. Highly recommend.

Good service, but the food was not as good as I would have expected. I've had better fried rice from my usual Chinese delivery, the seafood hor fun was a bit bland, too much noodle and not so much seafood. The deep fried calamari were very good! The price is a bit on the high side compared to other food in Malaysia, but not astronomical. Obviously the main attraction of the place is the many fish tanks with live fish, lobster and crabs. To watch this only is worth a visit, but of course you can just come to watch and not eat or buy anything.

Very very atas seafood restaurant, spider crab is special. However, overall food is only so so - can find a cheaper place with more delicious food else where. This place is mainly for tourists or special events.

Good food, but terrible service. We complete the order process at around 8:15pm, first dish served on 9:30pm. And upcoming dishes served every 15-25mins per dish. End up we only manage to finish our SUPPER (late dinner) at 10:30pm++. The table next to us, they sat and order after we complete our food ordering, but their food served earlier than us and they finished all the foods at around 10pm. The food serving process is messy and unsystematic! - Staff attitude needs to improve! - Business owner/captain attitude is rude! - Overprice, food not worth with such price & such portions! - Food service process unsystematic! Definitely won't coming back again.

I have been to this place few times. Always amazed with the live seafood selection they have. They bring seafood from everywhere.... Fresh vegetable selection is also not ignored- they have it all. Good food presentation and taste, great service and friendly. Although price is a bit high but this is one of a kind place. Its worth it to visit if you are in the area, especially if you are a visitor to Penang island. I highly recommend the place.

Reasonable priced seafood with variety choices. Also located near coastal area of George Town which is a good location. I ordered salted egg crab (exceptionally good flavour with very sufficient salted egg) and Chilli LaLa (also taste good and spicy). OverThe only reason why I rated 4 was crab was not properly cleaned, crab mouth was still visible and that was not edible.

Nice food, but the price actually higher than any other seafood restaurant around Penang, the average costing per person would be around 300-400 RM at least, but much more seafoods can be choose.

Spent about RM700 for 3 pax. 1) Chilli Crab with 6 piece mantou 2/5 - Sauce was good but crab wasn’t fresh, meat were all sticking to the shell and part of it tasted sour. Mantou was underwhelming too, not well fried. 2) Kam Heong Lala 3/5 - Not flavourful enough, felt like the sauce and the lala were 2 different dishes. 3) Salted Egg Squid 3/5 - Squid wasn’t fresh (fishy taste), batter didn’t stick well with the squid and there were so many crumbs. Could be more generous with the salted egg. 4) Stir Fried Garlic Asparagus 3.5/5 - Normal stir fried asparagus, nothing much to comment. 5) Tofu 3/5 - plain fried tofu with scallions topping, nothing much to comment. 6) Sharks Fin Soup 5/5 - for RM88, this was probably the dish that was the most worthwhile, flavourful, fragrant and you could see the ingredients 7) Bali Hai signature claypot chicken 3.5/5 - spicy, can be slightly a bit more savoury as the overall taste was quite plain, went well with the lotus root though. 8) Nyonya Style Grouper 3.5/5 - fish was fresh but lacking in taste, sauce didn’t complement the dish well as it was quite plain, could be more savoury to pair well with rice. Had to wait a long time to get the server to come order the dishes as only the captains could do ordering, while the other servers could only take drinks order. Waited a long time again to make payment, we had to ask twice before one of the server went to get someone who could take payment. Place is not bad, food variety is also quite wholesome but just lacking in overall taste and not worth paying so much for.

Had king crab, is fresh from the tank. Had it steam with no garnish and steam with garlic. Both are fantastic. Will come back again.

Great seafood at this restaurant in Penang, but make sure you photo the seafood as its being weighed as the price can really add up.

Great variety of seafood and very fresh. Good service especially table service- removed used dishes as we went not like most Chinese restaurants that just clean up once! A bit pricey but then you pay for quality.

This is one of our go to restaurants whenever we have guests with us. The restaurant displays a wide array of seafood options in their aquariums which is fascinating. The running water from these aquariums cools the whole place and gives off a relaxing vibe. Food is exceptional although a bit on the pricey side. It is always full so better make a reservation before coming here.

Great place for seafood. Although locals will say price point is on the high side, it's the overall fun experience of eating there.

  • 4/5 Lydia F. 1 year ago on Google
quite expensive here so make sure when you order you mention the exact weight you want for every sea dishes you want lobster porridge was fine, but would expect there could be more fillings aside from the lobster itself. Their satay is good, and must order the one with their speciality spicy sauce, must try!

First dinner upon our arrival in Penang. Such a delightful seafood restaurant. Quick and efficient service. Fresh and delicious seafood at reasonable prices.

Delicious and fresh seafood. Point and pick what you want to eat from a fish tank with live seafood. Definitely not cheap but prices are reasonable for foreigners. Ordered 3 crabs, Boston lobster, clams, 4 scallops, 4 tiger prawn, fried rice, and bucket of tiger beer for $2000 MYR.

The food here is top notch and also the price. If you're prepared to part with your wallet, then you'll have a good time. It will get quite crowded during dinner, so come early. Seafood is really fresh. Had oyster, bamboo clams, crab.

The food was fantastic. Definitely recommend the steamed grouper and most of the vegetables. The only negative is that it can be pricey, but if you can afford it, it is definitely worth it.

Lots of choices of live seafood, we didn't go for luxury dishes, but the food are quite nice. Seems quite popular as crowded til late.

First up. Live seafood is probably not cheap. But it sure is delicious. Every single dish is full of flavor and blow u away. We enjoyed this meal very much. But it did hurt the pocket a bit. So if you are coming here for live seasfood, must have some mental preparation.

looks like a tourist spot, good is great though...price a bit steep

  • 4/5 Shawn 5 years ago on Google
Came here to eat the seafood. There’s so many people and it’s always full. The price is slightly on the high side but the food is great, only thing would be the service of the staff. Wasn’t as friendly. The seafood is fresh and nice. Total cost amounting to 300+MYR for 5 people as there were 7 dishes. Would come back again still as the food is good.

  • 4/5 Yosuke 4 years ago on Google
You can eat fresh seafood. Staff are very attentive. Place is open, airy, clean. But price is very expensive, it's for tourist.

  • 4/5 Brendan 4 years ago on Google
Food here is great and taste good. Service was nice as well. Prices are expensive and do seem to be catered for tourists. Dim sum in morning was decent though not the best. Better to go night

  • 1/5 Barry C. 3 years ago on Google
The Dim Sum is not recommended... the HK Chee Cheong Fun is super big size but no Chee Cheong Fun flavor... The environment is good for yamcha though...
