Sardaarji - Flavours of Punjab

👍👍 I had been looking for a good north Indian biriyani in Penang for over a year and I'm thrilled I finally found my new favorite! Most biriyanis in Penang are too mild for my liking but that's not the case here: full of flavor and not oily. The dal makkhani had a very nice fresh and home-cooked taste,... People often mention chicken, good, service, taste, masala, butter, naan, Penang, mutton, Sardaarji,

I had been looking for a good north Indian biriyani in Penang for over a year and I'm thrilled I finally found my new favorite! Most biriyanis in Penang are too mild for my liking but that's not the case here: full of flavor and not oily. The dal makkhani had a very nice fresh and home-cooked taste, not too heavy. I loved the raita and appreciate that it's thick and not sweet. Finished with masala tea that was also very good. I found the portion sizes to be larger than average and good value for money. Will definitely be back.

“Sardaarji”..the name sounds familiar globally !! Yes!!! we were on a trip to Punjab yesterday Had authentic punjabi lassi, Paratha’s,dal makhani ...”😋” and back to Malaysia for Malaysian day2020.If you like to travel the same way I did , then all you need to do is sit in a car and on the waze app. Key in this name “sardaarji - flavours of Punjab“ @ Penang. Me, Varun & sumedha went for a food hunt to Penang, where we explored this sardaarji restaurant - you can get the real feel of Punjab (The place for colour , food & celebration 🍾..) we ordered for fish 65, malai kabab, lassi, Maharaja Naan , dal makhani , mutton curry and Their special sizzling tandoori chicken .. We specially love their tasty fish 65, succulent chicken malai Kabab, lassi, Naan & Paratha’s .. we ain’t not like their mutton curry. Their special sizzler .. will not disappoint you.. & it’s instagramable .. Staffs in Sardaarji’s 👳🏼‍♂️👧 restaurant are friendly and serve their dishes with happy face. Their interiors are simple yet colourful in vibe to reflect Punjab .. you should definitely try this place bcoz gastronomic voyage begins here .. 🍁

I love the Ghee Chapati and the Chai were great..The Chapati is made with pure atta whole wheat flour and not the normal maida flour. The service is excellent too.

Authentic Indian/Punjabi food. Can feel the original taste in every bite. Ambiance is cool and service is good too. They understood that my baby is eating slowly and allowed us to eat even after closing time great empathy...

Waiters not smiling or being super friendly isn't really a big deal breaker to me. As long as they serve the food in a timely and polite manner. The food I had as picture below was very nice, flavourful and aromatic. In terms of value for money, I'd say its pretty expensive. The menu is quite extensive.

Ordered the cheesy garlic naan, chicken vindaloo, and plain biryani and boy was everything tasty 😍😍😍 cheese naan was out of this world!! Vindaloo made you sweat but was still delicious! Biryani was flavorful and good. If you’re craving Punjabi cuisine, this place has a higher sticker price, but I think it’s absolutely worth it.

Whilst in Peneng we wanted to try a curry but were abit unsure where to go. So we decided to take a look at Google reviews. we choose Sardaarji and we wasn't disappointed. The restaurant is family run, throughout our meal it was busy and the service was great. The food was amazing and felt the portions were a good size. Beware the resturant is closed on Mondays but Google has it set as open. I mentioned this to the staff they were very apologetic. They have been trying to change the opening times but had problems with Google. Highly recommend coming here for food

I sadly had to drop a star because of the misinformation they gave me. I called twice to confirm their opening time on a Sunday and they told me both times 4pm. I had to wait till 5pm because they only opened at 5. Such a mistake shouldn't occur. Fortunately I enjoyed my meal. The decor is simple and doesn't distract you from your food. The menu is extensive and ordering is via qr code The chapati and naan was delicious but the parotha a wee bit like oily. I enjoyed the pani puri and the masala tea was nicely spiced without being overly sweet. The kebab was well cooked and the meat moist while the butter chicken and palak paneer was above average. I found the Gobi manchurian a bit too wet. I prefer mine a bit drier. The taste is also unbalanced. The lassi was delicious but a little watery in my opinion. Generally, I did enjoy the meal and the environment, and would be back for a repeat visit.

Really good north indian food, tastes homemade which really brings a very comforting feeling to the soul and of course the stomach. Masala tea here is to die for. Aunty that makes the drinks is super friendly and so are the wait staff. Definitely see myself coming back again for more!

Exceptional. Definitely a must go if you are visiting Penang. Recommended dishes: mutton biryani, salted lassi, butter chicken, fish tikka masala, sardaarji dhal makhani. Quiet weekday lunch, relax, clean and cosy ambience.

Love the food here, made only on order so you've got to wait a little if it gets busy but super fresh. Staff is so friendly and kind enough to give suggestions and even helped me get a grab back to my hotel. The ambience here is so chill that we say here for a few hours didn't even realize time passed by. Such a lovely time, will definitely come back and this isn't our first time but it only gets better!

I was excited to try their recommended menu item, dhaal makhani, but it turned out rather plain and a little too hot out of the stove that it nearly burned my tongue. The butter chicken however was on point - not too sweet and spicy enough, so I'd totally recommend it. Masala chai and paratha were also memorable. The rest, pretty standard.

Good choice for indian food in town. Try the cheese and garlic naan with black bean masala, spinach masala and butter tomato masala. Naan and masala, all were really good. Yummy!! The mutton biryani is also good but it will be better if it has more flavors. The rice is well cooked. Reasonable price, big portions and good service.

Discovers this place when searching for food in Little India. It is located at the junction of Lebuh China and Lebuh Pantai. This place is truly a hidden gem for North India cuisine. Enjoyed the pani puri that is offered here. The briyani mutton and garlic Nan is tasty as well. Worth of a visit if you haven’t tried

Great service, nice interior and an extensive and colourful menu. Great that they’re now more popular due to their recent listing in the Michelin Guide. Prices have been going up since the day they opened but food has been great and consistent over the years. They also provide catering services - contact them for more details.

The food is awesome. Can give 💯 but abit pricey. The service is good. Lunch set is the most affordable. The tea is watery but have the North Indian tea taste. They might need to check on the pricing as the item on the menu is available in few restaurants nearby at cheaper rate. The rest all ok. A must try place.!!

Food was decent. Drinks are overpriced. An orange juice was not from fresh juice but pre-mix cordial drink for that price.

Atmosphere and service are great but the food has significantly dropped in quality since last year. I had their butter, maharaja and mozzarella naan, butter chicken and tandoori briyani. Only the butter naan and butter chicken was worth the money, everything else had little taste and disappointing. This used to have the best punjabi food in penang

I was craving pani puri and Dahi bhallay hence came here . They didn’t have dahi bhallay. I ordered Pani puri, Veggie pakoras, Lahori chicken and Chicken tikka masala. The pani puri and pakoras were awesome. The lahori chicken and Tikka masala was very average . The interior was nice though. Would I be coming back , May be not . Halal

This is used to be our family favourite restaurant before this. But in my recent visit I am not happy with the food. I am confused with the food because all looked the same. We ordered chicken butter masala, lahori chicken curry and lahori fish curry all looked n taste the same. Besides that the room was so hot and can't feel the air-con. I hope the service will be better...thank you.

My recent visit to a Hindu restaurant in Georgetown left much to be desired. Despite the promising aspect of cordial service, several significant drawbacks overshadowed the overall experience. The portions served were disappointingly small, leaving one hungry even after finishing the meal. Moreover, the inflated prices, nearly 50% higher than neighboring restaurants, felt unjustified given the mediocre taste of the dishes. The flavors lacked the authenticity and vibrancy expected from a cuisine known for its rich taste profiles. The most disheartening aspect was the state of the restroom, which was not just dirty but appeared despicable, detracting greatly from the dining ambiance. This glaring issue significantly impacted the overall impression and comfort of the visit. On a positive note, the service was commendable, with staff members displaying great cordiality and attentiveness. In conclusion, while the restaurant offered polite service, the small portions, inflated prices, lackluster taste, and dismal restroom conditions left a lasting dissatisfaction. Improvement in these critical areas is essential to elevate the dining experience and warrant a return visit.

Delicious Indian food! My wife and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Sardaarji during our trip to Penang (on holiday from UK). We had paneer curries which were rich and tasty, along with perfectly cooked naan/rice. The menu was reasonably priced, and the large servings were good value (the prices included taxes/service charges, which made a nice change from the usual "++" approach used by most restaurants in Malaysia). The restaurant is very cute, with colourful drapes and comfortable settings. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Thank you Sardaarji for a lovely dinner; we hope to see you again!

Loved the Chicken Vindaloo and the Tandoori here. Great hospitality and food selections are reasonably priced. An easy recommendation.

I was on a Michelin Food Adventure in Penang, and we stopped by Sardaarji, located just less than 5 minutes from Hotel Prestige where I was staying. It was a delightful feast, savoring a range of Punjabi classics. We ordered their signature cheese mozzarella garlic naan, paired with Dal Makhani gravy. Additionally, not to be left out in any Indian meal, we tried the Chicken Tandoori. For a vegetarian option, we ordered the Palak Paneer, which was exquisitely flavorful and cooked to perfection. However, the real star of the evening was the Mutton Varuval, bursting with robust spices and tender chunks of meat. It is no wonder that Sardaarji has earned its place in the prestigious Michelin Guide. Photo of the owner attached.
