Pros: Location near the old town area, just taking around 10 min of driving. All the staff are full of passion and friendly. Food served all delicious and exquisite. Very courteous for the elite members. Very clean with the room and all facilities Cons: Due to the hotel just opened within 1 month, staff not yet familiar with the process of checking in and checking out, but I think this issue should be solved, just still need to take some time Overall, will come back again

Stayed as a Titanium Elite member. Overall quite a disappointment in terms of hospitality and services, as compared with Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok and Four Points by Sheraton KL Chinatown. Complimentary breakfast and welcome drinks for two at the Gin Library for Elite recognition. Gym facilities were decent, with steam room and sauna. Room was relatively new but already showing sign of wear and tear (level 21). Turndown service is not available even though it was stated in the hotel amenities information. Duty manager (male with slightly bigger built) was constantly on phone even though guests were waiting to be seated for breakfast. Three stars because I would expect better services and hospitality for the hotel price rate. Recommend for business stay if you want to earn points and elite night. Otherwise a big no.

Decided to book 3 rooms for a family trip at this hotel as I read good reviews and wanted to enjoy my Marriott Gold as there was little chance to travel this year. The hotel has much room for improvement due to the following reasons: 1. My rate included breakfast but when we got to the restaurant, we were told that we were not on the list and had to pay for breakfast. Had to “prove” to them that my rate did include breakfast. I was patient on the first day but it happened again on the second day to my guests (who went earlier to have breakfast). And myself later. It was a troublesome and embarrassing experience. 2. Two of my rooms was for 4d3n and one was for 3d2n. The receptionist didn’t bother telling me which was which and this led to confusion on the check out day. 3. Rooms were not made at all on the third day of stay. 4. Zero benefits for Gold members. No room upgrade, no welcome gifts, nothing offered. When asked, was only told that we would get 20% off f&b 5. Upon checkout, I was charged for breakfast (see point 1) even after telling them on both days that my rate included breakfast. The hotel is in a good location with a decent price point. Breakfast was also good but the above made it a poor experience for my family and I. Plus no benefits whatsoever for elite members..

There's plenty of space in our deluxe room, Seaview to every room. The pool was a good length of 30 to 35 meters. Sauna and steam room was steaming ♨️ hot. Roof top bar a bit pricey but certainly worth the service. Awesome breakfast. Be ware of food allergies here. Recommend for family travelers.

Update: After alerting them to the points below, the hotel staff upgraded me to a larger room in the same floor, which is a nice gesture. Worth highlighting though that the hotel tried to explain that in this hotel high floor (18th and above) has different price tag, and was fully booked at that time. That I can understand. However, it doesn’t explain why they have to put me in lowest floor instead of say 17th. The only possible explanation is that the entire level 14-17 is full of platinum, titanium and ambassador members, which I find hard to believe. All in all, the service staffs are GREAT but the room manager needs intense retraining. —————————— You think being a platinum elite member will at least give you a better experience, but nope: - No upgrade at all, which is fine, since upgrade is not guaranteed anyway but considering the occasion (my birthday) I would have expected them to put a little more effort - No city view despite advertised as such. All I can see is pool and the other building. - Asked for high floor during booking and was put on lowest available floor instead. I may sound too entitled, but I chose to stay in Marriott all these while to get to higher status expecting elevated experience. And is it too much to ask them to at least consider my request for high floor with view to celebrate my birthday. This stay makes me think twice about my loyalty to Marriott. Think Hyatt may have better customer service

Checking in was smooth. However checking out at 9am was very slow. Got upgraded to Large Room as I'm a Platinum Elite. Room and bathroom is spacious. However the mirror attached before entering to Bathroom gave me a scare. If one doesn't close the bathroom sliding door, you'll be practically looking at yourself while sleeping. Complimentary breakfast. However the breakfast is not enjoyable. Even the croissant is not nice and a bit on the hard side. As Platinum Elite, we are provided with Coffee, Tea and Juice from 12pm to 4pm which I didn't get to try out. Also complimentary Evening Happy Hour from 6pm to 7pm with Beer or Wine and snack. Just 2 glasses for you and one guest. As we checked in after 7pm, Ms Preet of Gin Library was accommodating for us to enjoy our Happy Hour after our dinner. One of the lady in Jacket was quite rude when we asked for the menu. She replied *no* and just said that only pizza, fries and something else was available. However, she was very polite to foreigners and Indians. Parking is cashless. Just scan your Touch n Go and validate at the Concierge for free parking. Amenities are all provided. Overall good service and had a comfortable stay. Only comment is I don't enjoy the breakfast and the service by the Manager from Gin Library.

A new and simple hotel. Its in the heart of Georgetown, Penang. Easy access for my family and I, to drive and walk to places where we wanted to eat 👍😊. We were here for 4D/3N. Our rooms are spacious and clean. Friendly staffs and good services. Thus, the foods can be improved wisely in taste and selections.

it is a very decent hotel, but devil is in details: room cleanness is ok but nooks and crannies are not so clean. Breakfast options are decent, but actually a little bit limited. Service is warm, but the staff is not fully trained & informed of local travel options. Elite member treatment is good: as a Titanium member I got room upgrade (one tier, not to a suite) & great welcome gifts. Overall is a pleasant stay, but much can be improved.

Powerful AC, big bathroom but green moth growing on tile cracks in shower stall, poor quality hair dryer. Spacious room, great view but slow wifi, comfortable bed though. Hotel restaurant in the lobby is short of staffs, food so so. Pool bar not operational, Gorgeous Gin Bar also doesn’t seem operational…. A few cafes, a bakery & Japanese restaurant in the same building-decent. Perfect location! Walkable to food/hawkers & cafes, Georgetown & amenities. Excellent service- housekeeping & bellhop.

This is one of the latest Marriott property in Penang, however alot of improvement required for this hotel. We made a reservation a week ago prior, however upon check in, the staff mentioned they did not find the booking. Funny part was we received the booking reference and confirmation email with our app. As a platinum member you are not treated differently here, they treat you just like a normal guest. The reception team seems like all fresh intern, the front desk manager doesn't greet guests. The staff here definitely requires alot of training and to know their brand wisely. You have to request the room with view, else they place you in any back yard view. Breakfast was like a buffet style, they have 6 selections and you may order. The room we had was quite spacious, the only small comment would be the smoke light on top of the wall keep blinking the whole night, if you have young kid, they might feel discomfort other than that the room are equipped with newly furnished furniture.

Stayed here for two nights. Driving into the hotel parking was easy as there were adequate signages. Be wary that this parking only accepts cashless payments so have your Touch N Go ready to enter. Lifts were clean and fast. Check in was quick and easy. Rooms were new and spacious. Bed comfortable and shower had good water pressure. Recommended to stay here if you are in Penang.

Clean room with 5-star amenities and gorgeous view. Despite there is no bath tub, we totally love the clean and spacious bathroom. We love the bed and we slept through the night (including our toddler). Love the room that is child proof and they have provided a comfy baby cot for our toddler :) Swimming pool was alright. Services were top notch and location is superb. The only thing that need improvement is the bathroom window that was quite hot especially when the sun is out.

I spent three nights here and was glad to leave if I’m honest. The hotel room was gorgeous, really liked it, the location is fantastic, lovely powerful shower & the staff were friendly. Alas that’s where my positivity ends! The mattress is very hard (down to preference), the pillows aren’t very supportive, housekeeping didn’t come until 16:30 so told them not to bother, the linen felt like sandpaper - so coarse! I found the A/C wasn’t that good either. I wouldn’t return to this hotel.

It's hard to review this hotel cause in Penang, there aren't many choices to stay so it's really tricky for marriott bonvoy members. The hotel is at a good location, the facilities are really good and there are nice people but they should improve their receptionist service and cleanliness. When I entered the room I was sure they gave me an unready room. It was so dusty especially under the sofa it wasn't just a day or two's dust it was a pile of dust and the amenities in the bathroom were empty

The hotel is new and nice. Room is spacious enough, the view is quite spectacular too. As a new hotel, the facilities is really new and nicely maintained, i.e. gym, swimming pool, sauna, etc. The restaurant is good too. Marriott is a promising brand afterall.

4 stars to room. Everything in room is good except replenishment of the amenities. 2 stars to service. Calls to the hotel using internal room phone never get answered. i have to use my handphone to call. At the end I left the text messages at Marriot app for room dining etc. Staffs in this hotel are very fresh including the seniors. 4 stars to the location as you have to walk some distance to food. Basically surrounded by hospitals.

Very comfortable rooms and excellent service with daily housekeeping. Showers are very good pressure and fully stocked bathroom in room with anything you might need. Bed is comfortable and room had a nice view. I only wish the location was a bit more convenient for Penang sightseeing.

We had a two night stay and just loved the hotel. Our room was very nice with a great view of the harbour and the level of detail in the room is beautiful. First class. And the bed and sheeting, to die for! Breakfast is excellent with a large choice in the provided buffet. The swimming pool is stunning as is the gym/sauna/steam room. Lastly, the staff, beyond compare in their greeting you and attending to what you may need. Highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel is in good location walking distance to attractions yet in quiet place. Most importantly is staff- Mark arranged our taxi and provided valuable advice as to local traffic. Mark also arranged for our lunch at Teksen a local famous restaurant. The line was very long when we arrived and not having to wait in direct hot sunshine was wonderful! I was unable to reach the restaurant so I do not how long it took Mark to do so- many thanks!!! The hotel restaurant had excellent breakfast and manager is welcoming and treated us to juice when we arrived. Overall, the staff is what makes this hotel outstanding. I wish staff in North America and Europe could learn from them!

Well, the room design was nice and pretty clean but the service standard can be improved. Service was not great. Staff was not attentive. Went to the Penang Kitchen for breakfast, one of the staff asked if we would like to have coffee or tea and we informed him accordingly on our orders. However, the coffee and tea were not served at all by the end of our breakfast (about 1 hr later). Why bother asking if you are not going to serve it ? On another occasion, I requested for a buckwheat pillow and a memory contour pillow that were available in the pillow menu. The attendant came and passed us 2 pillows that were neither contour memory pillow nor buckwheat pillow. It can be tiring for guest to keep putting up request just to rectify the initial mistake that was done. I dont think i will be back again.

The hotel is really good. The hotel staff are really friendly.. I hope the hotel that gets better and better. Can feel the Malaysian hospitality. There are many hotels in Georgetown Penang. One of the few global hotel chains in Georgetown Penang. If you're looking for an international standard hotel in Georgetown Penang, This is the best place to go. It is more suitable as a business hotel than a luxury hotel. One of best business hotel in penang. If you are a foreign business visitor,,, I think this is the most optimized place in Georgetown Penang.

Good hotel, but very lousy service. I’m a business traveler, I always stay hotel.. This is the first and the last time I’ll stay in this hotel. Today is 21/01/21 1.No signboards from car park to lobby. 2.Need company letter to check in, if I just stay hotel for fun? Cannot check it? 3.No staff standby at counter. I parked my car using Touch n Go, it’s normal need to validate my card before go out.. but the problem is, no staff standby at the counter..

New marriott hotel at Penang, started from September, 2020. Property by Tropicana. Hotel is rather new and front desk staffs were very friendly to welcome us. Hope they keep up the good service. Includes dry and wet sauna, pool and gym. The rooftop bar is still under construction.

We had a wonderful Dulang set-lunch here yesterday. Went there again this morning for an amazing Create Your Own Breakfast at only RM19.95. When the fam felt hungry around noon, I instinctively drove by to pick up lamb shank briyani and high-tea set. Need I say more? Kudos to the Management and staff at Courtyard! .. While waiting for my food to be ready, I was served a complimentary mango lassi. I am one delighted customer, obviously.

My friends from K.L are staying there; due to unexpected crowd the staffs have to rush a fair bit. Understand that the rates are fair; it's only a 4 star set up. Had a meal at the coffee house ... Food served was average and prices a bit on the high side.

Stayed here end of June 2023. Wanted to commend Sushil from housekeeping who found my white gold earrings. Thank you! Found the location great for going for local food and central for corporate events. Our guests were pleased with the location too. Rooms were new and clean. I didn't give 5 stars only because I arrive at about 9pm and was told all restaurants were closed. I later found out that there is a rooftop bar serving F&B till late.

It's a very great experience spending time here. Their morning breakfast is good. Taste great and fresh. Besides that, what i love most is the view of this hotel and the Gin library. The drinks there is absolutely great, nice cocktails and nice ambience. It is worth on every spend here. Rooms are clean just that the pillowcases is smelly but after requested to change, it is being taken note immediately.

Went to hotel to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Pre booked via Ms.Kavithra and had some arrangements. It was the first time ever Courtyard was having a seafood and BBQ buffet. Staffs are very friendly and very helpful. The ambiance was so calm and nice. The Manager Mr.Izzham was so good. Also the BBQ guy was funny and joyful. Not forgetting Ms.Fatin who did all the cake and pastry was so sweet and due to less crowd had good chat with almost all the staffs. Overall it is a good bargain. Since it is their 1st time and 1st day there are some delays and hiccup which expected. Thank you for the great time. - 10th years and the first day -

Took 2 adjoining rooms with breakfast. Breakfast selection was good. Local and continental breakfast selection is available. Rooms were clean and basic. Basic amenities and bottled water is available. Do suggest people to pop by to the Gin Library for a night cap or sunset viewing if you like. Location wise is quite strategic with space for grab drivers to drop off and pick up. Parking is available for hotel guests as well.

Came here for company department team building. I am quite satisfied with the room, everything is there and ample. The roomkeeping service is also timely and done professionally. The checking in and out processes are fast too. Didn’t have much time to use the facilities but the gym is quite small and the swimming pool is of normal standard. As for the breakfast, it is typical hotel food. It’s good to live here because certain local food stores are just walking distance away. Taking Grab to tourist spots wouldn’t cost much as well. Hence, would recommend to choose this hotel for its excellent service and location.

I just had a great two nights stay at the Courtyard, Penang. While it may not be as comparable to some luxury properties that Marriott has to offer, it definitely exceeded my expectations. The room was quite spacious and the decor was nice. The only that annoyed me a little was that the water could leak out of the shower quite easily. Pool was a little bit small. Also, it would be great if you could get rid of the squealing sound coming from the boom gate barriers. Service was great (especially Ariel) and even better (frankly, much better) than some of the five star properties in Penang. Definitely a safe property as well because they have lots of securities in the building. Would definitely consider to stay here again.

The room was nice, the bed was comfy.., that night me and family slept like babies. Their staff, particularly front desk staff, very attentive to details, neat and professional appearance. For breakfast, they had a menu with limited choices..I liked their red velvet muffins and yogurt. Butterscotch muffins and apple pie was dried and hard. if they stop serving semi-buffet, I will definitely return:)

More like a Westin than a Courtyard both service- and amenity-wise. Friendly staff who go out of their way to help and great location, a short stroll from all the key sights in Penang. Good high-floor gym/pool and modern rooms. Solid treatment as a plat (good upgrade; free wine/beer + soft drinks in the beautiful Gin Library until 8pm; US$10 F&B voucher per day) and great value redeeming points (8k/night vs US$120 cash)

Overpriced for the size of the room we got, I guess it is because it’s “by” Marriott. However, location wise is great and parking is complimentary. Room is clean, bathroom is spacious (could’ve gave some space to the room instead making the bathroom huge) and bed is comfy. Didn’t have their breakfast so I can’t judge it. Walls are thin, so keep your noises down.

New hotel smack in the middle of town along Macalister Road. Good service and nice big room with comfortable bed. Standard amine ties. Shower is 1st class. Attentive service, staff is top notch. Being on Macalister Road means food is never a problem.

Staying n the King City View Guest Room for 3D2N, the room is spacious, clean and very cozy. The hotel location is very strategic, easy to access to most of the Penang UNESCO heritage attraction. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel's facilities were impressive, i particularly loved the well-equipped fitness center with locker, sauna, and steam room. For those traveling by car, parking was a breeze thanks to the convenient carpark validation camera system. One aspect that truly stood out was the dining experience. From the delectable international buffet breakfast, satisfying lunch, to the delightful tea-time set at Penang Kitchen, wrap out your day with the exclusive dinner at Gin Library x The Ostrea at 23rd floor, every meal was absolutely delicious. Don't miss out on the Courtyard Chicken chop at Penang Kitchen and the Scallop pate at The Ostrea, they were absolutely delicious. We highly recommend Courtyard by Marriott Penang for their warm hospitality, comfortable rooms, excellent facilities, and outstanding food.

Spacious, clean, bright, highly functional room with sleek modern decor. Excellent shower, ample closet space, comfortable bed with fresh clean bedding. Loved our room! The hotel staff are terrific and the doormen consistently provide a warm greeting. Although we never used the pool it was a nice facility with poolside eatery, three cushioned cabana type loungers and lush greenery. There was also a fitness center and both steam and dry saunas in the mens and ladies changing rooms. Very clean hotel with a good location. We used the Grab car service app to get around the city. Very affordable and dependable service. Breakfast buffet has everything for everyone and good quality food! We thoroughly enjoyed our daily breakfast and found it hard to choose what to eat with so much excellent food to select from! The staff are highly attentive, kind and helpful. Especially Jonathan who was a such a pleasure to talk to and who always gave correct information and good suggestions for seeing Penang. The hotel only serves coffee from pod machines so there is no true fresh coffee. Found this disappointing as a person who wants a good strong coffee to start the day. I found a place for great quality coffee that was about a three minute walk from hotel named Koffe Penang at 45 Jalan Anson. We had dinner in the hotel lobby level restaurant one night. We feel the chicken rendang dish was unsuccessful as the ginger & flower curry was too bitter. We suggest it either be renamed as it is nothing like rendang or, better yet, removed from the menu. The small bar lounge and restaurant on the 23rd floor a lovely rooms and the restaurant offers an interesting menu. We highly recommend staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Penang hotel. We would stay here again without hesitation!

This is a beautiful hotel with exceptional staff. The beds are a little firm but still comfortable compared to others we have had in other countries. We stayed at the McAlister Mansion (another Marriott hotel) just down the street as well. It was double the price and not as great as this hotel. Highly recommend staying here.

Very nice basic hotel. The only open Marriott in Penang. No executive club lounge but a very nice gin bar open to the public and at the top floor of the hotel. Great view no matter which room you stay in.

Good and comfy hotel. Day 1 got a room with awkward layout and aircond facing bed. Then asked to change room, and much better (and standard layout) room. Location is good, not far from Gurney road, hospital, and also some places to eat withing walking distance. Great views when you get on upper level room. Some staffs seems to be on training and seems confused. Overall an okay hotel.

Room was awesome, and TV quality is good, BBC channel was good. Gym is 24h, good enough for me, for 2 nights. I used my points to redeem both nights. Highly recommended you stay here when in Penang. Next time I’m here, will stay with Courtyard again

We had a wonderful stay at this courtyard! As I didn’t stay at a courtyard for ages I was positively surprised how amazing courtyards of new generation look like. As the hotel is still pretty new staff still needs some training but they were absolutely lovely, caring and super helpful throughout our stay. Would definitely stay here again! TIP: please advise the breakfast staff that when they clean used cutlery it would be great if they provided a fresh one without the guest having to chase it as most guests don’t eat with hands.

Big fancy rooms. Great views. Close to a lot but not walkable. A real sauna. Pool is great, 11th floor with views, clean and good cool temp in the heat. Gym has a pull up bar. Breakfast is good.

The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from George Town. On arrival we were given a high floor as Marriott gold, level 19. However the floors start at floor 14 and go up to 23. Is this considered high when you are already high? The view is amazing in a large King room. However whilst the room is modern and of a good size the air con never went below 20 degrees. Warm! Woke up twice over night because of it and the bed is quite hard. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. If it hadn't been for the issues I would have rated it 4. Room includes a fridge, USB, good size TV and plenty of storage.

I’m a frequent user of their meeting rooms. Facilities are good and staffs are decent. The only thing that frustrates me is at the point of making payment or checking out - super slow and to make payment, it can take from 15-20 min and sometimes even longer. For a brand such as Marriott the service should speak its brand. Just so you know that I’ve used their meeting room more than 10 times in a year and even after numerous feedbacks- still the same. That disappoints me.

Spacious room, huge windows are the highlights of this hotel. Depending on which side of the building your room is, you might get excellent city view. Great gym at level 11, perfect city view while working out. Touch N Go parking, with free validation at counter prior to exit.

  • 4/5 JoonBond 1 year ago on Google
The location is excellent, easy to access the George Town area and Gurney Drive. The car park is also comfortable and easy to access. The room has a good view of the city area with an ocean view. The breakfast is on the ground floor, simple and nice, not too fancy. There are few shops and eateries within the building. The swimming pool and gym are located at the same floor, and the swimming pool is lovely with a city view, children's pool also available.

Stayed here 4D3N. All the staff were friendly, kudos to the staff at the check-in counters and concierge, bellboy etc They will assist with loading your baggage upon arrival and departure. Room was comfy but too cold, not able to control the thermostat. We had 3 guests but constantly had to ask for the 3rd person’s amenities until our last night. Overall, nothing is perfect but they definitely did their best while coping with the newly-open borders. Would return.

Stayed here for my birthday, and was not impressed by the slipshod, slow and inattentive service. Had written in by email in advance to inform the hotel of the celebrations, including my check-in date/time, to which the hotel had acknowledged. When we arrived at the hotel at night, we were told by the concierge that the room we had booked was not available as it had been fully booked out, and we had to be put in another room first, before being shifted first thing the next morning. As much as the hotel was apologetic, we would have appreciated if it could have tried to do some damage control to make things better, and if we had been told in advance that the room was booked out before the hotel accepted my booking, especially given that this was a celebratory special trip and I booked it as a Bonvoy member. Room was also very dusty and my partner had an allergic reaction. The next morning, we requested to change our rooms as was agreed the night prior – unsurprisingly, the hotel was not yet ready to change our room. We decided to head out for the day first and came back in the evening asking if the room was ready to be changed. The hotel took more than 1.5h thereafter to prepare the new room and help us to change rooms, citing the “birthday decorations”, although the decorations they prepared did not seem to have taken very long. One redeeming factor was that they offered an upgrade, which made birthday celebrations slightly better despite the exasperation and disappointment. All in all, not sure if we would go back to stay at this hotel given the unimpressive service which does not match up to its Marriott name. Location is very good though, and rooms are very spacious.
