This cafe has a lovely ambience even with its size. Also, the staffs are quite friendly and attentive to your needs. Parking seems to be the biggest challenge for customers as you will seldom get to park in front of the cafe. This will deter people who don’t like to park some distance away and walk. The food we ordered (omurice and sushi) was not perfect but it was good enough for our standards. I have to say the blueberry cheese cake was delicious and the only drawback is that there are not enough dessert variety to choose from. Price-wise, it is pretty reasonable for what we are getting and that gives us an incentive to come back again.

Cozy ambiance and food are nice, highly recommended for their taofufa and thai laksa mee, a good place for friends and family gatherings.

Japanese fusion cafe that is a great hit among young adults. The menu is pretty simple and straightforward (sushi, omurice, curry rice) Sushi- Soft shell crab, Smoked duck (imho both are not up to par on my both visit) you may skip this Omurice- Not in the picture however the taste is good. Basically an omelette on top of the rice and drizzled with Japanese curry with chicken cutlet/karaage Curry katsu- Good Drinks- Overall (I had sampled 5 types of their drinks but only Fire Sugar stands out) Fire Sugar is coffee mixture and top with a flambé top resembling creme brulee concept) Notes: First come first serve basis, only walk ins. No reservation allowed. Not suitable for big crowds as the place is rather small and difficult to maneuver around. Not suitable for old folks/children as I think the menu and taste is more geared towards younger generation however that I'd my two cents.

A great place for omurice. The side dish sushi is very interesting and tasty.. Very crispy seaweed wrap. I love the one with octopus

2 tea bags for each tiny pot of tea. Good n bad: flavour may b too strong; have to keep refilling if one drinks fast but it's value for money RM 10.90 pricey. Mocktail, Refreshing, is good but for d price of RM 16.90, it's too tiny a cup. Ambience is good but d it's really pricey for a new start-up at this area. Didn't try their dessert as d price is really too steep for douhua - RM 10+

Great dining spot. Delicious food. We had the salted egg curry rice with fried chicken, ham and cheese & salmon rice bowl. The staff was very thoughtful and reminded us that the salmon was raw asked us if we wanted it fully cooked as we had young kids with us. Good portion and friendly service. Recommended to go early to get a table.

Omurice is a must try! Their fried chicken is really tender and juicy... the omellete is slightly overcooked, but it doesnt affect the overall taste...one of the best omurice you can get in penang

They serve a very nice Japanese curry rice.especially with salt egg based. Only recommended to those who like concentrated curry,l. if u prefer lighter or dilute curry, then sorry, this doesn't suit you at all. you may try on something else like their omu fried rice

Formerly one of Penang old and popular bookshop World Bookshop 世界书局, Sugar Tang is a cafe selling food and drinks. A bit small to actually feel comfortable with minimum to nail decoration. Good for one time experience.

The decoration is quite nice, some corners for fantastic check-in photos !!! About food, it’s just so so. The salmon tuna avocado don is described raw but not raw anymore, the quality is not good. The signature dish Sugar Tang Curry Don is so so too. In all the dishes I ordered, I like Mentaiko Gyoza the most 🤪 The drink has fancy color, I like Pepermint tea only!!! Still don’t have chance to try the dessert!!! I will come back later!!

Saw a lot of good reviews regarding the food here. Tried omurice with salted egg curry and Thai Laksa ramen, maybe is not to my taste. The curry was too thick and sweet (probably that’s what Japanese curry should taste like and I’m not a fan of Japanese curry 😅). Sushi is good! Haven’t try the dessert. Otherwise, staff are friendly and comfortable ambience. #cafe #sugartang #food #japanese #georgetown #penang #coffee #dessert

Nice environment with good food. Improvement: maybe reduce rice portion and add more potato and carrot for the omurice curry.

Clean and inviting environment along with good desserts and high quality tea. The tauhua is smooth and silky and comes with various condiments and sugar options.

Fried chicken with omurice! Great. The fried chicken is good, not too dry, just nice with the egg and rice. The only complaint I have is that the omurice without any other side dish to balance the taste can be overwhelming and it makes you feel like not eating egg for 3 days. There is one meatless omurice option too. The soya bean crud is OK, don't expect too much.

Food here are really nice. Need to wait a bit during a Saturday evening. Omurice salted egg curry is nice and each bite is really flavorful. Yuzu coffee tasted like lemonade americano haha. Taromisu is soft and creamy and tasty👍🏻

Nice cute coffee/tea/ meal restaurant. If you like tea, you are definitely right here ! The omelet was nice but plain same with the rice. The curry souse was tasty.

Nice foods and drinks. Fast serving too even is quite crowded the hours we went. Just we sit at the corner a bit hot. Nice place to catch up will frens. But the place is not really big, so when is full house will be very pack

Drinks are fantastic and special, omelettes were very good. Very very difficult to get parking if you're travelling by car. Pork Roulade was very very disappointing, it was overcooked and tough to chew. Spicy creamy curry was bland, only tasted chilli powder taste. About RM29 for a plate of omurice is on the more expensive side. Overal 50/50 experience, will only visit for the drinks next time.

nice places , chill and relax I ordered coffee mojito. It's nice, refreshing and smooth. One of my recommendation Main course I ordered a salted egg curry don with fried 🍗, the curry was creamy and with a great smell of salted not too spicy. And for my last ending I ordered a peanut grass jelly with taro ball with Osmanthus sugar, it was yummy and had a smooth texture for the tauhua👍

This a Japanese fusion restaurant with a nice ambience. Staffs are very courtious and will offer ahead of prior customer asking. This is actually very thoughtful. Food is nice, we that their signature omurice (Japanese Omelette Rice) and their Tomyam mentaiko squid ink seafood (pasta). For the drinks we had the TieGuanYin series (3 drinks based of the famous Chinese tea). The place is also pork free and pets friendly

A nice place with good atmosphere to hang out in the heart of Georgetown. A bit pricey but the overall experience was great. Ordered: Tomyum Mentaiko Squid Ink Seafood Pasta (love this!) Omurice with Original Japanese Curry & Nam Yu Fried Chicken Melon Peach Tea Coconut Latte

The food here is awesome, especially the salmon mentaiko Don, stir and mix all the ingredients to enjoy the rich taste. The omurice is also good. You can choose from Various curry bases and fried chicken as well. I chose the typical Japanese curry and Fu yu fried chicken, which tasted awesome. Oh ya, the chicken rice sushi is a must-try! The basic lemak sushi has sold out, but I want to try it on my next visit. The sashimi is good, but can be better. The tau Hua is melt in the mouth. Overall, the price is acceptable with the food served.

Good option for Japanese cuisine in Penang with excellent dining ambience and service. Menu included a variety of coffee, tea and dessert. Ambience: Shop is well decorated and renovated, giving a good dining ambience. Food: Unique and creative dishes beyond the regular Japaenese Restaurants. Recommend Unagi Butter Rice Don, Japanese Curry Don and Omurice. Chicken Rice sushi taste like chicken rice, unfortunately chicken is dry.

Sushi - the rice is too sticky, 2.5 stars Spaghetti- good, but prawn not fresh, 3 stars Curry rice - good, chicken is tasty, 4 stars Dessert - soft but expensive, 3 stars - hard to find a parking spot - environment is not too bad Recommend to have a first try but not coming back.

Very difficult to find parking to this place but, the trip was worth it. Food choices were limited, they No longer have those Japanese style menu like curry chicken or those omu rice, which was a disappointment. The Star for me was the hoji cha latte and tofu dessert. Both were super rich in flavor and texture.

Came here for an afternoon tea snack and got the famous drunken tiramisu. The alcohol taste was stronk 😍😍😍 Pricing was decent. However, I wished the taste of the coffee came out stronger 🥲 However, the main dishes portion do look quite small (looked around at other peoples table) so just take note if you are planning to come here.

Great food great interior design. Came to taste the Japanese food before they remove it from their menu. Recommend to book ahead.

We go for their Japan curry rice but they don't serve it anymore😑(Super disappointed). We ordered the taco n sandwich. The taco really good n their toufu pudding is the best👍👍👍

The omelette on top taste bland but the rice below is great especially mushroom fried rice. Best fried rice I've ever had. Too bad they won't sell it anymore and will only concentrate on beverages and bakery products. Beverages are expensive and it's a small glass not worth the money spent.

All food we order if very delicious. Except the garlic mayo fry chicken not very my type too salty or sour don't know how to explain but the chicken is tender. Salted egg curry Don very recommends. Desert I will recommend lychee short cake not too sweet but strong flavour. Service is good but very hard to get car parking.

Presentation of food : 8 - 9/ 10 Value for food : 3/10 Taste of food : 4 - 5/10 Ambience : 7 - 8/10 For main course, you're stuck with japanese curry rice, I don't see any other opt (unless I missed out ?) Drinks from coffee to tea and juice. Tau fu fah also, but ........ not my cup of tea, my personal opinion. Don't order it. There's no booking ahead (asked the waitress in it), very luck based? Don't try to hit the cafe when it's crowded, as the cafe is small and the waiting time would guaranteed to be 30mins and above. (not inclusive of any random crowd that might be in line before you, as I have personally tried going at random intervals and only to be informed with long waiting time)

There's a wide selection of tea here ranging from loose leaf tea to various cold mixes. The food is Japanese, so there are sushi and curry rice. I love the curry rice with karaage though I find the amount of curry to be lacking. Environment is great apart from several noisier crowds, which is not the fault of the staff.

🫤 Overrated. Tried pork leg rice, Penang loh mee and Penang style CCF, all were subpar. Pork leg rice - Quite bland. The egg used was not even a proper lu-dan (soy egg), just a plain hard boiled egg. They did not even serve it with salted vege. Not good and not authentic. Penang loh mee - I'm a...
