A different outlet from Chulia Street without the discouraging PORK FREE sign along one of the most famous streets for pork soup indulgences at Hon Kei. A good rendition of Hainanese art of Western food in a pre-war setting.

Overall dining experience was very good. The mushroom soup was a bit too creamy. The oxtail soup was excellent and the cheesy garlic bread was certainly innovative. The almond crusted fish could do with more flavour and the black pepper chicken was well done and tender. The carbonara was also quite creamy and the presentation with the smoked duck was covered by the sauce.

First timer visiting this restaurant with limited table, but cozy ambience. Chicken chop is nice but salmon is bit too dry, I would avoid salmon next time. Overall experience is still ok and set lunch is offered for week day only.

The oriental chicken chop was amazing, oh and so are the mushroom soup and the cheesy garlic bread and the refreshing tomato plum juice. Serving portion is generous, not to mention the very hospitable restaurateur. One happy and full customer here. Definitely a must-try if you’re in Penang.

I recently dined at a restaurant in Malaysia, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. The food was outstanding, with generous portions that left me satisfied. The flavors were simply exquisite, making each bite a delight for the taste buds. What truly stood out, however, was the remarkable staff. Their hospitality and attentiveness added a special touch to the dining experience, making me feel truly welcome. Overall, if you're a fan of Western cuisine in an Asian setting, this restaurant is a must-visit. It's a fantastic place that delivers on both food quality and service excellence. PS: You should try the tiramisu, it's to die for!

Oxtail soul is flavorful and better paired with rice in my opinion (it comes with a bun), the carbonara is good but average. Same goes with the brownies. However, while food is average to above average, I’d probably return for the ambience and price point.

Love the ambience of the Xii Chan restaurant, cozy. Located downtown in Eastern hotel and there is a paid car park nearby. I would recommend cheesy garlic bread to start followed by oriental chicken chop, cheesy gordon bleu and finish off with tiramisu for dessert. Memang sedap! 😎👍

Found this hidden gem Xii Chan restaurant next to Eastern hotel. Looking at the restaurant decoration, one could tell the owner put in a lot of love and care into it. The restaurant gave out a sense of warm, cosy, comfy and Christmas spirit. I especially love the little light bulbs hanging from the ceiling grill. A very enchanted and charming little restaurant. We ordered Aussie Ox tail soup, which I was told the Ox tail soup slow boiled for 24hrs before it was served. I took one spoonful - wow! The soup was rich, thick, full of flavour. The after taste had a spicy kickback that leave you wanting more, another spoonful of the Ox tail soup. The ox tail meat was very tender, literally melt in your mouth. Served with soft bun and I dipped into the Ox tail soup, a perfect combination. Another hit was the cheezy garlic bread with tartar sauce. Normally we dipped fried batter fish into tartar sauce. Not this time, this uniquely cheezy garlic bread created and perfected by Xii Chan owner in the year 2020. Within the garlic bread it was filled with melted cheeze, and when one bite into it, the warm cheezy will oozed out, your palate will be assulted with salty and garlic flavour, add to the mix you dipped into the tartar sauce that add a tangy sweetness to it. So yummy!!! Some love the cheezy garlic and tartar sauce so much that they bought in bottles. Next the ordinary ice lemon tea, we requested no sugar. The tea was so rich in tea flavour not diluted, and we literally could taste the lemon flavour with the tea, genuinely became a great ice lemon tea. Simple food and drink prepared by a person with love and passion for it - make it extraordinary! Xii Chan I will visit again!

I’ve been supporting this shop and found them moved to this new place recently. Like the new place inside Eastern Hotel at Chulia Street. Crispy Almond fish is my favorite always. My lunch partner had chicken cordon blue and tasted good too.

Best oxtail soup in town... Hearty, wholesome, thick oxtail soup. Everything taste good as well. Awesome service... You are seated and waited at your table. Food and drinks come fast. Nice atmosphere and you get hotel lounge music (courtesy of the hotel next door)

An affordable western cuisine with a vast selection of menu. Taste wise is above average (Definitely better than JF's chain). A good recommendation if you crave for western food but wouldn't want to spend so much. There are 2 locations, almost back to back from each other. You can enter through Oriental Hotel.

Good dining experience with a friendly service crew. Separated into 2 separate shop lots on different streets linked by an alleyway. Tried the mixed grill which was really good and reasonably priced. The dining environment was clean and quiet too.

The grilled chicken cordon blue comes in good portion, but the salad a bit not so fresh and the french fries a bit burnt. The food presentation is to be improved. Overall taste average. The restaurant is inside a hotel, relaxing ambience is a plus point.

Love this little quaint & cosy place. Staff was very friendly & helpful. We had the oriental chicken chop & carbonara together with their homemade mushroom soup. All tasted delicious ! They also let us try samples of their homemade cookies and we couldn’t help but purchased some, as they were simply delicious ! Will definitely be back for more !

Friendly staff, reasonable price, cozy ambience AND tasty food at Xii Chān! Their black pepper chicken chop with homemade sauce is so good! Almond topped fish fillet is crispy and flavourful, very special 🤩 We upgraded to set meal at RM9.90 for their homemade mushroom soup and latte. Best choice ever. Will come again soon!

Not bad! Love the environment and service, food is quite good too ! Ordered Chicken Parmigiana and they gave generous amount of cheeese, love it! Tiramisu soso. Plain water is refillable. Maybe waitress can wait longer to keep all the plates, seems a bit rushing to keep our plates. But overall it's a good place for gatherings above 10pax

Parking was a bit hard to find as the area gets quite crowded with locals and tourists. The atmosphere was really nice. Food was served shortly after we ordered. Their fries were delicious; crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Most of the chicken and fish menu are grilled, I was hoping for more fried chicken options but it's alright. Their chicken chop was big and tasted good.

Nice cozy ambiance to chill. The food is OK, the price is reasonable. Bruschetta, fish bites and fries are good and recommended. Mushrooms Soup a little too milky for us.

Had latte and cheese toast. The cheese spread is own recipe. Nice. Theres parking behind the restaurant. Was not busy when I was there after 2pm…just before they close at 2.30pm. They have set menu where one can mix and match.

Cozy little restaurant that serve western food. The chicken chop is in good portion. The chicken meat bite is juicy but the fish bite is a bit dry. Great place for quick dinner.

Nice cozy place indeed. Food was nice but the sauce on steak tends to be overwhelmed it. Mushroom soup n the cheese bread was 👍 New location, waze seems to show their old place.
