Along Sri Bahari Road in Penang is this Teochew restaurant. that's still packing in the crowds during peak hours. Parking will be a bit of an issue during peak hours as it competes for space with the other restaurants along the same row. The dining room seems a little lost in time, and that's part of the charm. The menu also features dishes that have been lost to time as well, and presents a good opportunity to be able to savour these dishes. Food is generally good. Go for the Kapitan Pork Ribs. Prices can be a little higher than normal, but with rising prices of food these days, it seems reasonable.

Terrible service. Waitress attitude looks like rushing us to finish up quickly, but we were already having our dessert at 8:30pm but their closing time is 10pm. -_- we brought cake to celebrate birthday, the waitress(Aunty with short hair) she ask us is it we want to celebrate at here then we said yes. She said “then you eat faster la, then I can clear your table.” When she start clear our table she ask us “still want to eat or not” with rude tone. Due to this kind of attitude I won’t visit again, bye.

Good food. Bad service. The aunties have no smile on their face. Looks like angry aunties.

Taste like my grandma used to cook! Delicious home-style Teochew cuisines. Simplicity and not overpowering are at it’s best. The 2 of us had 4 commonly found dishes in any Teochew households and the star was steamed fish which had a truly well balanced flavorful broth. The cooking may take a while during peak dinner time. But it’s a good leisurely and casual dining. Recommended.

The dishes is very tasty but price is little over and still affordable. So I give a 3-stars. However, I am still encourage local people who missing the family cooking style to visit them once in a while.

About food…The CNY set is not worthy. I am so shock when the food is finally served after long waited and the portion is so small! You can compare the photo and menu the braised sea cucumber with minced pork…what I can say is picture only for illustration purpose only. You better consult with owner if you have a big group😀

Grateful that this place survived until today, the taste of the food is very home cooking like, reminds my husband of the dishes his grandma and mum would cook at home when he was a kid. A must visit for any one who enjoy Teochew home cooking and no fuss decor.

Attended a family dinner here last night for 12. It specialises in Teochew cuisine and the all the dishes were very good. This is definitely the higher end of dining and clearly this restaurant is considered very good value for money as evident by the packed house. For someone more used to Western style dining, I found the place extremely noisy and ambience a little too frantic to be able to dine in comfort. It was also rather cramped and the dinner service and setting was towards the basic end. In many respects, it reflects the character and attitude of the Penang foodies culture where the quality of the food is all paramount and supreme. The surroundings is immaterial.

One of the famous Teo Chew restaurant in town. Food is decent, nothing really standout. The steam fish is ok but need more flavour. Overall is ok. Service is good and responsive. Parking however is quite painful.

This place is busy most evenings. Reservations for weekends recommended. The popularity of this place is no surprise by the quality of food that they consistently dish out.

Best Teow Chew cuisine in Penang. Serve authentic dishes, especially yam custard.

The food is good as it is for many years. I returned because my family used to dine here. However the service is horrendous. All of the ladies serving us had an attitude like they were unwilling or unhappy. They saw me waving my hand for tea refill but they ignored and as I was walking in with my glass to ask for tea then they started to come out again with that unhappy expression. They also didn't like it when I asked them to return later as we have not decided on our choice of food. They said nothing and gave a displeased look while walking away. If they do speak, their tone is one like they are forced to serve you. What kind of serving attitude is that when you're gonna charge me a service tax? In penang especially, this is so unacceptable.

Tasty Teo Chew dishes served here, my family are very satisfied with the food. Especially the Toe Chew yam paste, the texture is very smooth, the sweetness is just nice. Parking might be a issue during peak hours. Unfortunately the services need to be improve, the aunties have no smile, feeling like rushing us to place order, not even ask “do u still want to eat?” and start to clear our plates.

The assam fish dish is cooked to perfection and the spinach in century egg soup is flavorful. You’ll need a group of people to try the rest of the dishes. I’m pretty sure they are just as delicious.

Very old established local favourite teow chew Chinese restaurant. With two branches. One on buhari road and another sg nibong. Not very big place has eight or nine tables only.

Not too bad so we went twice, around the corner from cititel. Pretty authentic food but on the pricier side.

Food was mediocre, standards have dropped significantly over the years. The fish was overcooked and the rest of the dishes were bland, the prawn rolls and yam paste are still quite good though. Service was worse, with one of the waitresses looking really grumpy, spilled water on me when she was pouring without even so much as a sorry. Not great at recommending either, ended up with 2 tau kwa dishes that tasted pretty much the same.

Very koh cha bi taste! Recommended dishes are the fish balls, crab balls, curry spare ribs, Indonesian prawns and curry fish!!

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
