What a quaint and lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Georgetown. Park your car, check in and begin the exploration of heritage city by foot. With a comfortable walking shoe, you are able to cover almost all sightseeing places, picturesque streets and plenty of excellent eateries the city has to offer. The hotel is also a gallery by itself. Every corner is thoughtfully design and the room is exquisite. Cleanliness is done at an excellent level with very high quality mattress and bedding sheet used for a comfortable rest. They deserve more than 5 stars for the hospitality and human touch in every aspects. The owner run this place with full of enthusiasm and soul. He genuinely recommended many of his favourites restaurants and they are all outstanding. You get the best spots from local while avoiding all the skinning tourist traps. I will strongly suggest everyone to spend your time here and slowly explore the charm of this island.

Small Boutique hotel that is well decorated with nature. Trees and greeneries inside hotel, and I love the outdoor Garden upstairs. Recommended for those who wants to relax and chill. It is walking distance to hawker stalls and restaurants too.

Have stayed at Macalister Terraces for 3 times so far! Definitely my go-to accommodation whenever I visit the beautiful island! What keeps me returning: friendly and professional staff, convenient yet peaceful location - near (and walkable) to everything I need yet away from the noisy, maddening crowd, ease of commuting - safe and secure complimentary parking right in front of the hotel and is also fairly easy to find a Grab, clean and spacious room with good shower water pressure, comfortable mattress, and a very relaxing, tastefully decorated lobby. They also provide air-filter upon request! Hands-down one of the best hotels on Penang island in terms of hospitality and pricing too! I love how they try to support local businesses - instead of run-of-the-mill Nescafe and Lipton, Macalister Terraces provide complimentary sachets of the Salute Brand 海军牌 and Boh tea bags in the rooms! They also showcase Malaysian artists... with their artworks adorning the walls. I also appreciate how they still provide bottled water (on top of water dispenser on every level) and bathroom slippers - which most hotels stopped providing so as to be environmentally friendly. The one and only gripe: the pillows are still too soft for my liking :D Think will start requesting for extra pillows next time! Also, there are some minor signs of wear and tear, such as the bathroom door locks and shower heads... which did not affect my stay at all.

Clean, quiet and spacious room with a high quality bed. The manager Bill was also very helpful in food suggestions, including for those who aren’t interested in overly touristic areas. A relief to return to the room each night to cool off in comfort!

Very good service from the staff and concierge! They will help you get your bearings right and provide maps for destinations to go. Very useful for travellers of all types. The location is central enough to walk to alot of destinations. But it can be peak hour and have jams.

The room is very clean. Informed them about my daughter having eczema and they immediately provide me with air purifier. It’s my daughter first time travelling and they ease my worry a lot. They even provide us room near the lobby so it’s easy for us to transfer our things. By the way, wanted to apologise to the owner for accidentally burned the ironing board. Already paid to the one of the staff. Hope you can buy a new one. Thank you so much for the great hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay :)

Booked for 2 nights and was so appreciative that we were able to change to a more quieter room as our first room we were given had a child crying in the next door. The room have so many power sockets which are so convenient. And there is a super good nyonya restaurant just in front of the hotel. Will come back again.

Absolutely love my 2 night staying experience with Macalister Terraces hotel. The ambience of the hotel are so beautiful with classy interior. Clean and comfy bed! Bill, the owner of the hotel and his staff are all so friendly and helpful. Definitely will be my pocket list to stay when I visited penang again.

This hotel was nice and convenient. The staff we spoke to were really friendly and knowledgeable. Gave us good recommendations for places to eat and see. The room itself had no window but was comfortable and clean. We did book a room with a window but was told they had overbooked. On our last day we had a late flight and requested for late check-out to which the staff member declined in case they sold the room, however the room was still empty when we returned in the evening. They allowed us to keep our luggage there and freshen up after a scorching hot day.

Went on short stay with my baby of 4 months. I am overall impressed and will stay again for sure! The hotel is tucked away from busy roads but it is literally nearby all places. My baby slept well & no noise from the room at all. The room has led light from bathroom which is nice. Down at the ground floor u have a space to just lepak and they provide free coffee / tea & snacks and I feel like I have my own space which is so nice… Parking : The hotel provide some double parking outside for free. Food : Outside the hotel nearby there is a walking distance for grabbing coffee & some hainan chinese brekkie. Ask over the manager Bill he is so accommodating & helpful Plus point : I came with baby and Bill was so kind to provide me room at ground floor. We also got some free pack of teas and kopi and the kopi is so good! Not to mention the ambiance , the designs of modern + colonial look. It’s a gem for me!

Location was really convenient. A number of famous makan spot was also within vicinity. If you drive, there are also parking spots too in the hotel compound. Room was exceptionally clean and comfy. 10/10! Rooms were spacious too. Overall no complaints, we really enjoyed our stay.

Location of the hotel is located within 10mins walk to New Lane food center, Komtar, 1st Avenue shopping, Chowrasta market and Kimberley street. Room is very spacious and clean, service is very personalize as it's not a big establishment but rather consist of less than 20rooms over 2 levels. Would have been a 5 star if not for unpleasant incident involving other guests as the lobby is right outside the room, expect to hear loud noise if other group of guests are not considerate enough and chat or laugh loudly. Not suitable if you are a light sleeper. Had expected the front desk staff to tell the guests to tone down their volume after certain timing but disappointingly it's probably just a job and he does not care as well.

Lovely, clean and comfortable boutique hotel in the old town. Booked the Vintage suite, it was quite spacious, able to put our 2 huge luggages in the room and located on the ground floor. No window though but toilet comes with mood lighting. The shower was great! Walking distance to nearby shops, restaurants and market. Around RM5-10 Grab taxi to Gurney and E&O hotel. Hotel amenities include toothbrush, room slippers, good shower gel and complimentary coffee and tea. Lovely rooftop indoor and outdoor chill out areas however outdoor furnitures are showing signs of ageing and one with broken seat. Quiet neighbours enabled us to have a good sleep. A pleasant stay overall.

We came for Penang Thaipusam and was fortunate to get hold of this hotel. The room was great and the bathroom had this mood lighting which was superb. Overall, it was a wonderful stay. Parking is available and the street is quiet so parking is not an issue if the hotel is full. Mr Bill, how can I miss him? Such an attentive and friendly manager. I’ll definitely be back for my next visit to Penang. Totally recommended!

We had a very pleasant stay for 4 days. This is a very cosy and comfortable family suite with two separate rooms connected. There is parking space, there are restaurants all around, and famous attractions are within 5 to 15 minutes of walking distance. The most important thing is that the hotel owner, Mr. Bill is very nice, and the front desk service, Ms. Lisa is also enthusiastic, and the attractions she introduces are also top-notch. With her highly recommended Blue Mansion Indigo restaurant fine dining and her kind of helpful booking, we granted the best services.

It was a pleasant stay. Superb location, with carpark provided. The staffs are very friendly too. I love the arts vibe of this boutique hotel, i can sit on the sofa of the common area and just gaze on the paint. Bed is comfy, shower is great, room is clean. The only drawback is the wooden closet is kind of old so it smells abit. And the aircond perhaps need some service. Despite all that, me n my boyfriend enjoy the stay alot. 😊

We have checked into this unique boutique hotel recently. We love the refine interior design, a fine combination of classic and contemporary. The location is strategic, walking distance to many attraction places in Georgetown. The room is clean and comfortable, very importantly there are parking space for the hotel guests. Highly recommended !

The hotel owner, your behaviour are really immature indeed. Pls, you’re in service line... the attitude and the way you behave / talk are so rude. I don’t think service line should act / behave in this way, don’t waste your time arguing with all the customers here, pls ask for better advice from other good hotels and learn from mistake. Listen to understand, not listen to reply.

It was my 1st time meeting this kind of “owner” with rude attitude and bad service. We did not even spoiled/ broke any of their stuffs and they just simply blamed on us. Terrible service ever...

I have bad experience here, very bad attitude and service from the owner, especially the lady. I won’t revisits this place again and not recommend to anyone to go.

31st Dec 2020, we had a private function at lobby area. We met the rudest hotel owner I have ever come across. Our group of friends had booked 6 bedrooms with the hotel and had spent a sum of money for additional item and his response was "I'm not even want to do your business". The worst place I have ever stayed with very rude boss.

Lovely place, well maintained comfortably sized rooms, good facilities, and very friendly and helpful owner. If you're walking the city just factor in that it's not in the *dead centre* of town but that does mean it is quieter if that suits. I didn't find it a problem, especially if you have tours planned, or are taking taxis most places. Rooms are well appointed with effective air conditioning, fridge and safe, plus space to hang clothes. Bill the owner (I think!) Was extremely helpful, hung around until almost midnight while every mode of my transport was late, had lots of suggestions for what to do and was helpful in arranging things. Highly recommended.

Stayed there for a night, love the amazing hospitality from Karen and Wei. Nice ambience, great interior design (it feels like someone's house, super homey), the bed is comfortable, tiles in the toilet are nice. Will definitely come back again. The location is close by to most of the attraction.

I’m very like this hotel. the hotel is located at a strategic location which can access to different famous restaurant or tourist spots by walking distance or few minutes drive. The room itself is clean and nice, also the owner and staffs are very friendly and helpful. will definitely stay this hotel when I go Penang again.

I don't know why it has less than 4 star on overall review. For me, the stay is very pleasant, very proper boutique hotel with reasonable price. In Georgetown, I believe i can never find anywhere else better than here for the same price paid and quality expected.

Our fabulous stay at Macalister Terraces Hotel was perfect. It was a weekday staycation so it wasnt so crowded. Our room (Vintage suite) was spacious, with super comfy bed and a nice bathroom .Friendly staff at the reception. Checking in and out was smooth. Will definitely stay here again.

Lovely boutique Hotel. Way beyond what I expected for the price that I paid. Location is great. Check in and took grab / walk to visit any eateries or attraction. Would definitely stay here again for my next visit.

Nice ambience with extremely comfy bed. Special deco and beautiful sofas near the reception area. Most importantly, the attached bathroom is extremely clean. Ample parking for hotel guests is provided. Would definitely consider to book a room at this hotel again if we were to pay a visit to Georgetown again. Walking distance to nearby eateries.

Fantastic location in Georgetown, easy accessibility to cafes, heritage sites, and shopping centers. The hotel room is beautifully done up with excellent room cleanliness. The Sealy Mattress is absolute magic, I never fell into sleep that quickly before. Overall experience was fantastic, highly recommended!

Enjoyed our stay in this quaint boutique hotel thanks to the great hospitality extended by Johan. Near to places of interest and easily accessible to foodie joints. Bed was comfortable, rain shower was good, free coffee/tea complimentary of the hotel and water filter to refill your drinking water. Parking was free, right in front of the hotel compound. Would love to return and stay on our next visit.
