Just had a wonderful time staying here. The room was spotless, the overall vibe was on point, and we respected the no frills mindset and affordable price point that came along with it. The team running the place were super friendly and accommodating. I will definitely book here again next time I’m in Penang!

The ultimate deal breaker was the mosquitoes. Not sure how and where the mosquitoes are from and I could not sleep at all due the the constant mosquitoes attack. It’s sad because I really like the whole space especially in the day. Cozy and clean. Hope the owner can do something about it :/

i found frenz republic in airbnb. Best deal to stay in Penang. the hostel at Lebuh Melayu, near from komtar, and many tourist place. Easy to find food and drink. The host is very responsive and helpful. The room very clean and comfort. The shared bathroom is clean too. There is pantry to refill your water or make some coffe or tea. Any common room. Very nice place, thank you!

There were mice in my room every day even though I didn't bring food in my room. There was a sticky mat outside of my room to catch critters so I watched a mouse struggle to live for over 24 hours before they cleaned it up and put a new mat down :(. The sound proofing is non-existent so you will hear everything from your neighbor watching Netflix to the people on the street having a conversation while they walk by. It wasn't a restful stay for me due to these things. The drywall falls off the wall as the people above you walk through their room. However I will leave a few stars because the location is great, the bed was comfy, and the Aircon worked well. I just think that they should lower the price to put the price/quality ratio more in balance.

There is most probably very little about this place that I would change. It's exactly like how I expected it to be, staying true to all the other Sekeping retreats that I have been. There are however a few things that I thought could make the stay even more memorable. For one the wifi connection here is exceptionally slow. Most probably a mistake sharing the same network as the cafe downstairs, which also host live gigs on weekend afternoons at the area directly below the open air courtyard. Could stand between you and a good nap if that's also what u need to freshen up after a full day of exploring.

I really enjoyed my time here. George Town is a UNESCO heritage site and Frenz is an old building that has been very smartly converted to accommodation. It's design aesthetic is really unique. I saw a review here, giving out about the walls of the room 🀣 Don't stay here if you're not up for quirky, old and unique! The house 'rules' are standard and common sense and etiquette in a shared space. Safety: I'm a solo female and felt very safe in the property and around the surrounding area. Location: 10/10 You are within walking distance to everything GT has to offer. Great coffee shops, restaurants and bakery on the same road. Room: Comfortable bed, air con and enough space for your bag and personal items. Shared bathroom. Be aware: As already outlined in the description of this property, the walls are not sound proof. You are relying on self aware and considerate neighbors. Cleanliness: 10/10 spotless. Value for money: 10/10 Highly recommend.

Rustic, Decent place to stay without bursting your pocket in Penang Island. 10min drive form Penang ferry terminal. Limited parking can be quite a hassle due to its location. Suggest to get the daily parking coupon at RM6. Food and places of interest is within walking distance around 5km radius. Clan Jetty. Armenian Street. Canon Square. Best discover Penang by walking

Amazing interior, very comfy beds, good showers, great communal area, great facilities, great location, great value for money. Only bring ear plugs and eye mask if sensitive to noise and/or light as the curtain is cream coloured and translucent. Noise is just normal noise you will get almost anywhere in Georgetown however.

Tried the burger on their lunch set menu..the chicken was not fresh and dry..the waiter forgot about our salmon burger order and we had to wait for so long..the shop and the deco is unique and nice but my lunch experience there wasn't really good

Great environment, a little hard to find as the company was separated from the cafe below. Lots of flies and mozzies. Unless you get bathroom attached or is from lower bedrooms, bathroom can be a little hard to access. Only two of it amongst many shared bathroom rooms. Can be a little noisy when cafe below is operating.

Stayed here during my last trip and love the simple and minimalist concept. No frills and no fuss and yet, we felt very comfortable. The whole place is clean and quaint. The cafe below is opened from 9 to 11 and the food and drinks are good.

Had a light and quick refreshment. The price is reasonable for a cafe. The taste of the food is good. The ambiance is nice and they have a unique interior too.

Bed bug infestation. A potentially good experience, but don’t expect a soundly sleep, as the windows don’t fully close, and it faces a busy road. But, if sleep is not your priority, it’s a fun place. Be aware of bed bugs.
