Good food, tasty soup (Entangled prawn), flaming mala chicken wings is a bomb but succulent. Variety on menu with funny names, short menu but quality food and mock-tail. Cafe is cozy and always full. Friendly and helpful staff and owner. Delivery during Fmco. Very recommended!

After walking past Sambal whilst discovering George Town we popped into book as the restaurant looked so inviting and the menu really interesting. The food and whole experience totally exceeded our expectations and we were so glad we stumbled across it. The staff were really good at explaining what the items on the menu were and pointed out which options would be gluten free. We opted for the ginger flower salad, ribs, pork and rice bowl; all were fantastic! We were then given a free bowl of ‘drunken’ clams as we’d spent over 200RM - the clams were a real highlight so we were so glad of this promotion. We had a lovely chat with the owner who told us more about the food and her inspiration for it. She even used us as her guinea pigs and asked us to try to two new cocktails. The tamarind and lime one was INCREDIBLE! Couldn’t recommend this place more for some traditional fusion food and incredible service!

Redefined and upscale local cuisines. All of them are good, especially the char siew rice. Will visit again to try out the rest of the menus

This is a very special place. Good ambience, highest quality food, great presentation. 5 star service from the staff and owner. A very special place for my family to have dinner here. We were impressed by the food serve here, all food we ordered were super delicious. Menu is creative, recipes are really one of it own kind. Complex, tasty, deep, serving like in the fine dining restaurant, worth for the price pay. We will visit the restaurant again when we travel to Penang.

Almost walk off during the sitting arrangement (the restaurant was not occupied till we finished our meal). Mood improved when the food served. We found the clay pot prawn vermicelli very nice given the potion is small. Enjoyed the mango salsa with sea bass and sautéed potato. Lap Cheong rice is quite pricey and salty. But the lard was nicely done, is crunchy and just right. I would say quite pricey for some of the dishes offered in the menu. Service need improvement.

Some of the best food we ate in Malaysia was in this restaurant! We arrived around 9pm and while many restaurants were already closed, we had no problem here. We were welcome by this lovely owner lady with perfect English. We were a two generational group from Slovakia all having their food preferences. The lady owner spent 15 min explaining all their menu and ingredients used. In the end we all found something we liked (including vegetarian) and let me tell you it was wonderful! Food was delightful and we even got a small appetizer on the house. Drinks were great and the whole team stayed slightly after their closing hours just so we could finish. 100/100 We are home already yet still dreaming of the food :) Keep up the good work!

Wow, must be the best food and service in town! We were very disappointed with the selection of food providers on offer in the area until we came across the Sambal!!!! The moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with the warm reception by the lovely staff members. The ambience of the place felt modern and comfortable enhanced by the minimalistic deco. We were amused and entertained by quirky menu captivating our attention. Once again, the experience of the staff offered comprehensive overview of the contemporary fusion of the wonderful tastes and skilful cooking. Every single meal and drink provided a fantastic culinary journey. In summary, we will most definitely come back when returning back to town and most certainly suggest to everyone to try this festival of the foodasty ( food artistry) experience. Must visit !

We had one of the most pleasant dinners in Georgetown here. The cozy atmosphere, paired with extra attention and help in making our choice, plus a complimentary dish of drunken clams were just the cherry on top. Would definitely recommend this place. The food is good, drinks as well & the service is just impeccable. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

The food, drinks, and service at Sambal were fantastic all around. Jenelle’s recommendations were on point, and the fusion of different palates made for a refreshing take on regional cuisine. Double shot cocktails were a huge plus too, and the use of local herb infusions like galangal were just sublime. I’ll definitely want to come back again. For parents of young kids, they do have baby chairs, and their pumpkin porridge (I don’t recall the full name) is really delicious.

Reservations made. Arrived & was immediately attended to by the waitress. Made orders on recommendations. After just a short wait & *Voila* dinner is served! The food was just awesome! We knew that it took time & patience for preparations of the food. Each dish has its own authencity which gives it's tastes & flavor. A must try! From starters to main to dessert... So yummilicious!!!

Awesome food! I ordered some food for take away. It took some time to be prepared. The food tasted exceptionally great and is worth the price. The waitress who is also the cashier is super friendly, the service was perfect. The food is so good that it brought me pure happiness. It's really difficult to buy happiness but I did, with the meal, I just wanted to serve great food to my beloved mum so much. We enjoyed our dinner in great delight. Much recommended! Btw the food I ordered were all recommended by the waitress, if you're not sure which to order, just ask for recommendations from them.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sampal Restaurant, and I must say it was an exquisite experience. From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance was warm. The menu at Sampal Restaurant boasts an array of dishes that are not just delicious but also deeply rooted in local flavors. One standout feature of Sampal Restaurant is the authenticity of the flavors. What truly sets Sampal Restaurant apart is their dedication to preserving local culinary heritage. The way they seamlessly blend traditional herbs into their dishes showcases a deep respect for local culture and a commitment to offering an authentic dining experience.

Suggest to make reservation to secure dinner slots. Suitable to come in group because the menu lures you to order everything on it. Love their Lap Mei Fan and pork ribs. Must finish the soup of Drunken Clam. 😋

Excellent food. Excellent service as well, full of smiles and always courteous. Really enjoyed the prawn glass noodles and the salted fish pork patty buns. Also liked the mango salsa and potatoes that came with the grilled barramundi. The rice bowl with char siew and pork lard was really flavourful too - great amount of pork lard given. Quite pricey but worth it. Will be back.

This place do provide good tasting fare. Parking is very hard to find on weekends though. Pricing wise it's a little on the high side for me but I have to try it to know. I can't guarantee I would go again due to (1) difficulty of finding a parking space & (2) pricing wise for the amount provided per plate. Go ahead and give it a try. You might like it. Parking still $u¢ks 😁

Chance upon this restaurant in Google map.And decided to give them a message to make reservations and they also went the extra mile to help me buy a birthday cake for my boyfriend. Fantastic food , awesome staff. Lady boss even give us a complimentary bowl of pumpkin porridge. Overall experience is wonderful. This explains the high rating review in Google maps.

When you are craving something different but also with plenty of Malaysian character Sambal delivers - but try to bring a few people as I am sure you will want to try the entire menu. Everything I tried was excellent, and was particularly surprised by how tasty the pumpkin porridge was. Highly recommended if you want to go somewhere a bit special, the cocktails are well worth a try as well. Excellent service as well.

The best fusion restaurant tasted in Malasia. The food was incredible, even the attention was excellent, cleans and quick. The waiter suggested us some of the dishes and she was not wrong. We really recommend the baos (which have a funny name in the menu) and the deep fried fish ( one of them with kimchi sauce which is really good and enough hot). They invite us to a traditional Malasian dish, good detail from the staff.

Food was memorable, the type of place you would bring visitors to wow them. Flavours were bold and intense. Standout dishes for me was the pumpkin porridge which looks deceptively bland but packs a punch, the bihun prawn which left me sweating due to the corn peppers, and the stuffed squid. Each dish came accompanied by its own unique sauce. Special mention must be given to Ika (the sole female crew member) for her enthusiasm - being the first to greet you, give you fresh plates, replenish yr drinks, ambush curious passer bys (HAHA) and her attentiveness - she checks ur seat to see if you left yr mobile device behind...... To nitpick, this is not a place for deep conversations as the music can be a tad too loud.

Great service and friendly staff. Very flavorful. The 豬油渣 char siu farn is definitely one of the best I've had. Keen to check out the sister tapas shop also around Georgetown next time!

Our visit to Sambal was a food awakening for us. Elaine and all the crew are doing a fabulous job here. The salad of green mango, shallot and banana blossom was vibrant and flavourful. The drunken clams delicious. A claypot dish of thin rice noodles with prawns was served in a delicious spicy broth. And finally the pork ribs were succulent fall of the bone tasty.

Impeccable service by the team, with delectable fusion food. The staff was also unimposing in the way he approached and explained the food dishes to me, especially when I hovered outside their door trying to see the menu. I had the Lap Mei Fun, Pot of Gold, and Loaded Empings - all of which ravingly recommended. As an added touch, I also enjoyed the creative names :)

We ended here by chance (the street food stall we were going was closed). Such a happy coincidence. The food here is amazing! Creative and delicious. We were lucky enough to meet the owner, she explained the dishes to us wich so passion about the ingredients and dishes' inspiration. The cocktail was also very yummy - I don't like sweet drinks and they delivered a fresh, clean, delicious cocktail. Totally recommend this place

Walking past this shop and saw a delicious stuffed grilled squid dish in window. After a quick scan of menu had to come in and try it. Lunch was amazing, we ate the Mango Salad, noodles and stuff squid along with the boas. Service was on point. While it's very contemporary and fusing different elements from South Asia, the flavor profiles are on point. Go try it!

Interesting menu and dishes. The server took time to explain to us each item on the menu. Not something I’ve tasted before. Each dish has its own elegance. It came very well presented. Food price can be on the higher side. But still quite worth it for what you get.

Amazing experience! This will be one of the top restaurants in Penang when the word gets out! Hard to express how impressed I was by the food, drinks and service :) The staff are exceptional, explaining every strangely named dish on the menu with enthusiasm and a back story. The food lives up to the hype as well and portion sizes are generous :) Hand crafted cocktails complete the package (other drinks are available), again each promoted with gusto and delivering on the promised flavours with aplomb!

Been wanting to try it for the longest time and it did not disappoint. Tried almost everything on their menu, and their Loaded Empings are a MUST try — super tangy and refreshing. Their Lap Mei Fan and Charsiew BIP Rice were two other showstoppers. If you’re looking for an exciting drink to beat the heat, go for their Passionfruit with Kantan Flower Mocktail. Absolutely amazing. Will definitely be back for more!!

Sad we couldnt inhale more of those tasty food. Definitely would come back for other food choices. The menu is fun to figure out, a bit on the pricey end, but definitely worth it. Had the pork ribs, kerabu salad with prawn, and the char siew bip rice. For 2 pax just nice, because we ordered a mini main. The ribs were *fall of the bone* tasty, could be morr juicy(maybe), but good enough as it is. The kerabu salad is sour and refreshing! The rice and charsiew are good too. Charsiew house made, not skinn and dry, it was fatty and juicy hehhehe Such a good find in Penang, hope to go again.
