A good ol' reliable restaurant where you KNOW the food is excellent and the service friendly and efficient. The seafood is very fresh. The preparation and presentation is excellent. They have a good selection of wines and other drinks.

Best Greek salad you’ll ever have! We always enjoy the seafood platter for 1 but tried out the grilled whole fish and it was so delicious! Always a treat visiting the fat fish

Fantastic food, friendly service by Bongi, relaxing atmosphere and an overall aesthetic pleasure! We ordered fish cakes and bobotie springrolls from the starters. The 3 fish cakes were packed with flavor and the springrolls accompanied by tomato and olive atchar did not disappoint! For mains we had the most succulent parmesan crusted grilled Kingklip with the perfect hint of chilli - the best we’ve ever tasted! Dessert was a tasteful journey of meringue, vanilla, banana and banana custard with grilled pineapple, whilst hubby enjoyed the double layer white and dark chocolate hazelnut tart with orange sorbet! We would give 10 🌟 if we could!! Definitely a new favorite 💞

After my car broke down near George we had to spend two days in George. We went to The Fat Fish for dinner and what an amazing experience! The food was out of this world. I orderedthe fish and calamari and my daughter ordered the mushroom risotto, we share so that we could taste both.. They were delicious. It was very difficult not to go back the second night.

The best restaurant I've ever been too. Food so tasty! Presentation of every plate server was of high standards. The service was friendly and professional. Looking forward to going back there again.

The restaurant is beautiful, but.... Don't eat the gnocci, it's a weird concoction that doesn't fit. The fish got smaller and less tastier. The service is good, but it's not good value goes money.

The place is great, the wait time was about 30 minutes,the server will(sorry if I forgot your name) was a great server, the the atmosphere was fine I don't really like music when eating but it's my problem,as seafood this was delicious and the mash potato as well,as a Muslim I would recommend this place for other Muslims for seafood.

Best best best! We were just passing George and were in need of a good spot to meet with friends before taking to the road again and what a gem we found! We went by reviews and popularity and we were more than impressed! From the kind, welcoming and very happy waitress (LuLu) to the whole service, the menu, the wine list, the manger popping by to check on us to the amazing garden area outside, everything was ON POINT! The way the food is presented - mouth watering! And the taste - to die for! Absolute must! Will be coming back and will be recommending to all!

This came highly recommended and it was worth it. Amazing service by Cindy our waitress and the special of the day was fish and it was perfect. Good recommendations were also made on the wine list.

A wonderful evening at the Fat Fish, enjoyed the prawns, currently on special. I struggled to find a restaurant in George which serves prawns and I was pleasantly surprised, large perfectly cooked prawns with great service to add to the experience! I can only fault the peri-peri sauce for being to heavily tomato based, however that is a matter of taste. Keep it up, great food!

Hadn't been in quite some time. I ordered the battered Hake &chips. Best Hake I've had in years. Melted in my mouth, the batter wasn't greasy or over powering. Hubby had the Hake and Sesame calamari. Really unique dipping sauce - was super tasty. Pudding was also light and tasty. Good service and food came quickly. Will return.

Very good food & service! We had tapas starters, followed by mains and dessert. Very delicious! Especially the lamb curry. Pedro is such a welcoming & hands-on waiter! Lovely experience. Definitely recommend & will come back.

In my opinion, hands down, arguably still consistantly the best all round restaurant in George! Great food and variety, great spot, excellent service. For a quiet meal, or a romantic meal or a business meal. 2nd to none!!

Visited the revamped restaurant. Had the Cob with vermicelli. The best fish meal that we have in along time. The salad that accompanied the fish was superb. Well done to the chef. Staff were efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely be back

What a find! Had the artichoke and mushroom dim sum to start and the creamy leek mussels for mains. Well thought out flavours and a beautiful setting! We will be back!

It offers an average meal nothing special. Just to qualify my reply, I was a little disappointed with the fish selection options, I decided on the Fat Fish as I was looking forward to possibly something different from the normal , however, if memory serves me correctly the meat menu offered the same if not a larger choice and I was surprised to see a meat menu, had I known before the time that the Fat Fish was not a fish speciality restaurant I would have chosen a different venue for my dinner experience. Staff welcomed me with a smile and service was efficient. As an afterthought, the name Fat Fish is rather misleading, which annoyed me to a degree. The dish that I ordered was well prepared, tasty and what one expects from this type of establishment, so the three stars was based on limited selection, while quality of meal deserved a four star rating. Possibly adding a grilled whole fish option could be considered.

Wow, wow, wow. Had dinner at the Fat Fish last night and I will be back. Probably as soon as possible. The location is cozy. The staff are awesome. The food is exceptional. Please do yourself a favor and go have a look for yourself. You will not be disappointed. I would personally recommend the dum sum (vegetarian) or bobotie spring rolls (sounds strange, but are absolutely morish) to start with. For mains, the fish and chips (they have a great lunch special running on that on Tuesdays and Thursdays FYI), the Burmese curry (a fish curry and, I would really recommend) or the fish and sesame crusted calamari (side note: order some fries, they're awesome). For dessert we had the banana malva (great!), the amaretto brulee (my personal favorite, perfect balance of flavour, texture and sweetness) and the Panna cotta. I could list a dozen more items that honestly delivered across the board. An impressive feat to accomplish both excellence and consistency thoughout.

Delicious food and amazing service! Prices are reasonable as well. My husband and 3 kids ate there so it caters for all ages and not one morsel of food was left on the plate. The service was top notch. Would definitely eat there again

A gem in George, with class cuisine and service.

Great setting and even better food. We were welcomed by a professional waiter and the food was divine. I had the sesame fried calamari with the corn salad and it was paired together perfectly. The beer battered hake is also delicious and soft. If you are looking for a place to eat in George this is it. You get more than what you pay for with the great quality of food.

Very enjoyabl fish and meat dishes.

A lovely find. Good ambiance and an interesting menu. The sesame calamari starter was a revelation on a bed of black rice and orange slices. Greek salad was a superb interpretation with a balsamic glaze to finish. Mains of prawns (really good size) and the chilli parmesan kingklip did not dissspoint. Our waiter Pieter was top notch making recommendations to make sure our meal was enjoyed. Pricing was good especially when converting from GBP!
