This review is about the restaurant, not the guesthouse. 5 stars are not enough. Service was impeccable, food was out of this world, explanations of the ingredients were very helpful. This was the best restaurant in a long time (and we have been to some great places). Prices are very reasonable for what you get.

Fantastic service and ambiance. Great food, just a little too few options for vegetarians. Missed the explanation of the food during the course, while there was a (very) long explanation of everything upfront. All in all, it was a very nice experience and definitely a recommendation.

Fine dining on the Garden Route! Great food, great presentation and service. Coming from Cape Town, where fine dining is super relaxed, it all seemed a bit stiff at arrival but it wasn’t at all - on the contrary. Having the dishes explained to us was not only educational but also entertaining. The value you get for your money is also incredible. Definitely the best place we ate at on the Garden Route, and chef Lizelle, her husband Rudolf and their team are an absolute pleasure to be around!

Best dining we had in a long time. Rudolf and Lizelle we the most amazing, welcoming and enthusiastic host. There were no limit to passion and hospitality. They were exceptional with their presentation and knowledge of their craft and cuisine. We had a blast,... it was our daughters 30th birthday, and they made it very special and memorable. Thanks Serendipity.

Wonderful restaurant. A superb menu with very creative dishes. The springbok loin was particularly good. They provide a shuttle bus from your accommodation which we didn't know about and wished we had taken so that we could have enjoyed the different wines with each course.

Best restaurant experience in a long time, very personal and great food with a local touch. Would highly recommend this to anyone in the area. Make sure to book in advance.

Definitely worth putting on your bucket list. Do the wine pairing option. Who knew you could get a white pinotage! Our waitron was very knowledgeable about the wines, tastes, origins and vineyards. Food has a South African flair e.g. pigeon salami (which I passed on). Springbok, yellowtail, warthog, pap, koeksusters etc. The menu changes as to what is locally available.

Dinner here was a brilliant experience, it was one of our favourite meals of our honeymoon. The chef talks through the menu with all the diners when you arrive and it has a lovely feel with excellent food.

We were looking forward to eating at Serendipity but unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. Hosts were lovely and service good but the food was very bland and uninspired. Most of the courses were lacking in taste ...despite lovely descriptions, presentation was very ordinary and dessert...a chocolate torte ..totally overcooked and just a dry, solid inedible lump. We have eaten at numerous lovely restaurants on our trip where the food has been absolutely sublime and similarly priced so this meal was very poor by comparison. Disappointing!!

South African Fine Dining at its best. From start to finish, a food and wine experience that you'll never forget. Not only is the food superb, but it has a wonderful South African twist. Flavours and aromas that are true to the heartbeat of this country. You can almost call it handpicked. Rudolf and Lizelle are wonderful hosts, and together with their excellent staff, really make cuisine a personal experience. Loved it.

Out of town fine dining restaurant. As a vegetarian I was palpably in the wrong place. Despite telling them my dietary requirements and lifestyle choice when booking, the owner launched into a long speech about his hunting, fishing and shooting! Graphic detail about small pigeon breasts cooked in pork fat. Empathy? Nil. Vegetarian option? One token pasta dish. Each to our own. But not for me.

We had a big birthday celebration at Serendipity and it was a blast! Fine cuisine with local accents, wonderful service and incredible view! Everything was great, but I still dream about their springbok.

Great restaurant experience facilitated by the owners couple. Listening to their stories about where the ingredients come from is an integral part of the experience. As we dined there 2 nights in a row, they offered as to exchange 3 of the courses, and both times the food was absolutely delicious.

We had a lovely time but it was bit of a stuffy atmosphere with no music, felt a little awkward, the food was good but the waiters were gone for ages (smoking breaks) so the service was very slow, but the wine pairings are absolutely huge - not a bad thing. The restaurant arranged shuttle taxis transfers from our hotel which was a nice touch, especially after the wine. Was a little expensive for the service and product.

We were lucky enough to get a table while on the waiting list. We had dinner with our two daughters of 1 and 4 and the owners and staff dealt with the fact that we brought our kids in a great way! The dishes were excellent (especially the springbok) and the wines paired perfectly. All in all we had a great experience.

Well - that really was serendipitous! A chance comment from our wonderful eco river tour host, Mike, earlier in the day, alerted us to this restaurant (and boutique hotel) as we cruised past. We returned to our hotel and immediately checked availability - just in case. Luckily enough we were able to secure a 6pm booking that same day and we were picked up by complementary taxi and driven to the restaurant. We were welcomed warmly, sat outside on the verandah and given a choice of several interesting cocktails to start our evening. We then met our host, Rudolf, who runs the establishment with his wife Lizelle, and were treated by him to an excellent and detailed description of the dishes we would be eating that evening. We were seated inside on a lovely table next to the fireplace. The table was laid beautifully. I’m trying to find the pretty ostrich egg tea lights! We opted to accompany our food with the recommended wine and between us covered most of the dishes on offer. Service from all of our servers was excellent throughout and the wine waiter, in particular, was extremely knowledgeable. The springbok tartare and Cape Malay fish cakes were delicious starters. My ostrich fillet was moist and tender. My husband pronounced the line fish the better dish though! We were very full up (and a little tipsy following four very generous glasses of wine!) by the time we finished and then found that Rudolf would drive us back to our hotel - so were able to thank him personally for a super evening. Highly recommended and good luck for the season! Cheers!

Incredible experience. Not just a nice dinner, it is a very special venue, wonderful hosting and simply the best restaurant food I have had in many years!

The place looks awesome, right by the river. Host is welcoming and provides all the need to know details. There are kayaks free to be used by the guests. Rooms are very comfortable with king bed. During power shut down, there is a generator. The hotel acts as a restaurant at dinner time. If you are not dining, it gets noisy. Breakfast was good but pastries were a bit stale.

Wow wow wow. What a dining experience. Every menu item explained in depth. No long waits between courses. Service impeccable! Photos won't do it justice as the setting is quite dark. 1000% visit if you are in the Wilderness area.

Fine dining doesn't get any finer! This is cuisine made with some of the most unique ingredients combined even more uniquely to create a culinary experience like no other. Portions add up to the perfect Goldilocks just right fullness at the end. The wine list is extensive and not overly pricey for the wines on offer. My only constructive criticism is that we missed some mood setting music

Excellent Restaurant, excellent location, superb service well worth the well above average price tag. There is a set menu at 629Rd/pP (dec 1st 2021) where we could choose from 2 different starters, 3 different mains and 2 deserts. Everything was perfectly prepared and our taste buds had a very pleasant night out. Especially the wine pairing way beyond expectation.

Rudolph and Lizelle made us feel so welcome and they made an effort to prepare our meals according to our dietary requirements. It was a special evening, superb service and exceptional cuisine. Oh and the slurpy was our highlight. We will be back.
