What a fantastic experience. The view is just breathtaking. Trip is almost 3 hrs. On our return the train stops at a picnic spot for a half hour...so be sure to pack a basket. This train trip allows you to see views you otherwise cannot see by car or any other means. Before or after your trip you can also have a look at all the beautiful old vintage cars. Just do it!

My wife and I went here to visit the museum and go on the power van tour, and oh boy was it a great experience. Great trip for a family, very well priced and extremely informative and fun. The museum itself was a tad bit dark since most of the overhead lights were not on and the bathrooms did not have water, but other than that a great destination to visit.

Loved every second of the visit. Need enough time to walk through. During sunny days it gets very hot inside, but not even the heat could stop us marveling in the history and showcases.

Enjoyed browsing the vintage cars and railway carriages on display, ahead of Power van trip. This trip is a 2.5hr trip back and forth, with a 30mins stop for a picnic at a spot overlooking George😊 So pack a picnic basket and enjoy a lovely trip up the mountains and through 4 tunnels 😀 Only negative was the sound system in our carriage, was very tinny scratchy and could not always hear clearly what the guide had to say (who is very knowledgeable about the area!)

Definitely a “must see” in George! Lots to see and well maintained. The biggest disappointment for the kids was that we did not have a 1p coin for the ancient chocolate vending machine. If you are planning on taking the power van up the mountain, it might be a good idea to phone in advance. They were not running while we were there and nobody could tell us what their normal times are or why the operators were not there on the day.

Great day trip visit from singles to families. Lots to see...from trains to cars. Many scale modules as well. Interesting displays...just sorry some photo displays' lights don't work. Entrance is free with save parking but please give a donation to keep this museum open...too many people just walk in when they hear there isn't an entrance fee. George's municipality must consider selling coffee or drinks as one spent a long time there and become quite thirsty. Maybe bring one of the eating coaches back to real life for a special experience?

The museum has previous years won awards from TripAdvisor. A bit sad that they have scaled down due to c19 2020/21. Hope they will return to the high standard they had before. Onsite restaurant has closed down. Still lots to see on display and a trip into the mountains with the powervan is a must.

I just love this place. Been there twice and everytime it is a treat. If you are into old trains, steam locomotives, vintage cars ...this is a must. Entrance was free... I just miss the train diner that used to be there. You can take a ride up the mountain...but make sure its not a misty or cloudy day.

We had such a lovely morning at the museum! We were blown away with the collection & the excellent condition of all the displays. Anthony was our guide on the inspection train trip- very friendly & knowledgeable. The weather was perfect & we got to take some great photos. We will def be back with friends.

Fantastic museum. There is also a train ride you can take up the mountian and back again. Gives stunning views of George, the sea, mountains and surrounding area. Call and book in advance if you can as often full. The museum is fantastic. Full of old trains and cars. Memory lane for sure.

Went a few months ago with my 4 year old, I was a little worried as her ears are very sensitive to noise. She seemed a little anxious as the trip started, but in no time she was all smiles. Very informative trip with loads to see and the picnic and view from the top was amazing, definitely a worthwhile trip in my books😊

A wonderful, spotlessly clean and interesting museum, with a great display of old South African Railway locomotives and coaches as well as old vintage vehicles and other railway memorabilia. It also houses the Power Van diesel coach train that goes up the Montagu Pass on the old railway track. This museum is an example of how museums in South Africa should be looked after and run. A definite must for any visitor to George, whether a railway enthusiast or not.

Beautiful views over George. You will see the old ox wagon trail going over the mountain Take your pick-nick basked along because you will stop at a view point high up in the mountain. You will travel through a few tunnels as well... Visit the railway museum at the starting and end point. You will not be disappointed.

Awesome place to take the kids. They had the Christmas market so there are lots to eat.The old trains are such a pleasure to see as it was before our time. They have a 2 hour train ride into the mountains but you need to book in advance. We went to the train but it was booked 8 days in advance

Wow, what an awesome experience. The museum is spotless and clean and the people are very friendly. The kids loved the old locomotives and old cars, and because of the market, the kiddies loved the train ride with the golf cart. What a great place to visit, and take cold water if visiting on a warm day as it gets quite toasty in side the building. Lots of history.

Was amazing seeing all these big trains. Wish there was a coin dispenser for R5 coin so that kids can watch the model train. Had to ask the car guard for coins as the reception didn't have any. We made booking for the Outeniqua Power Van, this was really fun, however most of the guide was done in Afrikaans. The views were stunning though.

I really enjoyed the train ride with my folks, however the train does screech when travelling on the tracks. The conductor also hoots the horn each time the train crosses the road and that is also loud. The noise is however bearable. The trip on the power van is around 2 hours and takes you to scenic spots on the mountainside with a stop for a picnic in the mountains. It is quite beautiful. Good for a slow days activity in George.

The power van is ineptly run, there is no staff to answer queries, no one answers thier phone, the office is closed, despite having a sign out front stating they are open (and all museum staff stating there was a person there earlier) this is the second time I have come to this museum, and the second time I wanted to ride the van, the first time was a Sunday, and the van does not run on a Sunday, today is a Tuesday... with no one to take a booking, or even sell me a ticket. I have no idea how this business keeps going!!! Edit: the next day, we managed to get a booking and went for a ride, earning them an extra star (from 1) the ride was better than expected (and my expectations were pretty low) nice sites to see and interesting little tidbits of information. It is suggested to call ahead to the pub (oppi spoor) at the "end of the line" for a pub lunch (dont expect much more).

I didn't enjoy the experience today due to the way were treated. We had 3 carriages and 2 carriages were filled with whites only and 1 carriage was filled with non whites. There was a white family in front of us and the lady conductor said to them you not in this carriage and only after take off I noticed the discrimination. (I also have photos and videos to prove this). Really after 25 years of democracy we still have this situation in our Country. Very disappointing.

What a lovely trip down memory lane. It reminded me of many train trips I had the privilege to take with my parents from JHB to the coast. The old world charm of sleeping on the train and having meals in the dining room carriage! All the old trains and locomotives and items from many trains and locomotives from yesteryear! Wonderful to see the preservation of these pieces of our history!

Our second visit to the Outeniqua Transport Museum and it gets better every time. The children loved walking around and spending some extra time by the old cars. This is a must-visit when coming to George. Young and old will love it! I took way too many pictures because the children demanded to have a photo with almost every car!
