Gericke's Point is a natural rocky outcrop at the end of Swartvlei Beach, located in Sedgefield along South Africa's Garden Route, rivalling similar natural points I've visited in Mozambique like Ponta do Ouro and Tofo. It is a sight to behold and about a 2km walk from the parking area at Swartvlei Beach. At it's foot are incredible rock pools, just mind the tide if snorkelling. A must visit if you're in the area!

Great walk to the point with interesting rock formations. Lots of little pools with marine life along the way, but the best are at the point. Go at low tide to enjoy them without waves crashing into you, and bring a snorkel. The view from the top of the point is excellent. It takes about 20min to track the point from the car park.

Great for small kids. The small pools during low tide is ideal for small kids and families making an outing. The distance to walk from parking to the point is about 2kilos. The parking is very limited but can start parking down the street. We didn't swim in the pools but enjoyed the ocean water closer to the parking lot.

The hike to Gericke's point at low tide allows you to see Octopus πŸ™ star fish, oyster catcher birds and experience nature in her best form

The walk to the point is pleasant and we went at low tide. Awesome for the kids. I did find one rock pool to enjoy some snorkelling, plenty of sea life. But you need to go when the water level is a bit higher to enjoy all the rock pools. Awesome little gem, will definitely go back.

Lovely experience, do check the schedule (google)for low tide when you go. 5km walk, we went around, shoes are recommended for the climb on pointy rocks

Lovely walk to the point at low tide to snorkel in the many rock pools. Clean beach, loads of sea life. Don't get stuck out there when tide comes in though!

This is my favourite place in the world. I've been going there since I was little (I live in Pretoria and frequently go on holiday in Sedgefield as I have friends who stay there). I love the views, fresh air and all the different routes for walking along the ocean. I've taken my girlfriend there a couple of times and she couldn't believe all the different shells you can find, critters like starfish and crabs, squads and octopi, and I've even seen dolfins and stringrays! It's a nice place to take the kids for a picnic or to spend the whole day, just make sure you google the times of the tides as you can only go during low tide and you can actually get stuck there if the tides rise while you are there.

Awesome πŸ‘Œ place. Just a bit sad to see people coming there to catch octopus with the family coming to enjoy nature. Time your visit with low tide

Beautiful setting. One needs to be up to speed with the tides, as it would be very difficult to visit at high-tide

Great for walking. We saw a variety of wildlife, from octopi and crabs to catsharks. There are also a few great wave pools. Definitely bring your camera.

Gericke's is magical. You have to go at low tide to get the best view of the rock pools which are alive with fish, crabs and plants. It is beautiful. Wearing wet shoes is recommended as the rocks are sharp and you are likely to get your feet wet. Also remember your water, hat and sunscreen.

Check when the tide is low so you can make it to the rock, up, along the rock pools and back again. Wet shoes recommended.

Absolutely beautiful spot! But in the last few years the rocks have been stripped bear. On leap low tides you see groups of poachers killing everything they can find! Sanparks should really get their act into gear....

Such an awesome place to visit and is one of my new favourite. We went at low tide and got to see quite a few awesome things including bright orange starfish. Beautiful mountains right next to the beach.

Breathtakingly beautiful. We walked from the parking. It was an hour before lowtide so we strolled along the beach and explored the rock pools. We saw some beautiful sea anemone and starfish. Don't go barefoot on the rocks - you could cut your feet. This is one of the most beautiful and interesting beach walks.

Beautiful place. It's worth it to take the walk along the beach to the point. We have caught fish as well.
