Pepsi Pools

Tourist attraction Hiking area

👍👍 Amazing and easy trail which you can access from a few points around the George area. Easiest is passing the GRJ dam and keeping left all the way. You'll meet some friendly walkers and runners on the path as well as some furry friends who will welcome you with a sniff or two. :) People often mention hike, walk, pools, Beautiful, trail, Pepsi, nice, swimming, worth, Pools,

Wonderful route following alongside the dam on a dirt road. 12km there and back with shaded parking. The pools are wonderfully cold but are quite dark. Wonderful place to explore and see some wildlife

Pepsi Pools, with its enticing dark brown, bubbly waters reminiscent of the renowned soft drink, clearly derives its name from this familiar beverage. This charming swimming spot, featuring a small waterfall and rock pools, is a beloved destination for hikers and mountain bikers, making it an ideal location for a leisurely summer day with the family. You can conveniently park at Nelson Mandela University and leisurely stroll along the picturesque plantation trail, or opt for the route starting from the Garden Route Dam to get to the pools. Beautiful hike around the Garden Route Dam and the pools are majestic and great for cooling down after the hike. Hike directions: The websites were confusing on where to start the hike however, we found it best to start from the Garden Route Dam. Drive in for 1km and park on the left under the trees. Follow the footpath across the bridge and keep left at all forks. After you see the excavation on your right (+- 4.5km into hike) take a sharp left turn. Keep right at the forks until you see the Pepsi Pools board. Total hike was 12.75km and 161m elevation. The hike was flat and fast. Definitely worth it.

Beautiful hike through the forest. I would definitely recommend this hike to all beginners/intermediate level hikers. The trail has become slightly eroded at one or two parts due to bad weather but overall it is fantastic. The pools are great as well, although diving is not recommended as it contains shallow rocks.

Really interesting! Make sure to park at NMU walk is shorter and nicer, just ask at NMU entrance staff they are friendly and helpful as to where to park. Once parked you can use the Google location for Pepsi Pools to follow the right paths 🙂👍 For those adventurers that are keen you can scale the wall on the right it's not very steep, to make your way to the top pools, the short bushy path is worth it! Photo 2,3,4,5, 6,7is of top pools. Waterfall is photo 1.

I've been to Pepsi Pools many times as a kid. It is nothing spectacular, but the hikes to get there are really nice. The water is from the Swartrivier aka Black river and truly looks like Pepsi. It is also icey cold and great for a swim during a trail run or hiking.

Great place for a picnic and a swim. Don't jump in though, there are rocks scattered throughout the water. As you walk upstream you will find many other nice spots as well.
