Terrible experience here for my birthday wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy. I’ve been going here for years since it’s my local pub, so for my birthday I invited a few friends to come and watch the football. Everything started okay, I ordered some food and a few beers, until two of my friends arrived and an employee named Hazel was refusing their entry. Bare in mind it’s a Sunday afternoon, many under 18s and even kids go to the pub at this time, it’s sunny outside and the weekend. Hazel requested to see their for ID already quite confrontationally which was startling. No one else in my group, nor did I witness anyone in the pub be ID’d (even though they looked considerably younger than us). So it initially seemed targeted, it would be very understandable if they were ordering alcohol but just to enter seemed harsh. They ended up inside, I’m assuming she was disturbed with something else. We weren’t making any form of disturbance, just sitting down watching the match like everyone else. One of my friends who didn’t show his ID bought a cider, Hazel then came over and grabbed his drink very aggressively and if I’m honest made me uncomfortable. The level of aggression was unjust, my friend held his drink since he was practically attacked. Hazel wouldn’t let go and they scuffled around. Luckily my friend isn’t an aggressive person because many people would loose their cool in a moment like that, and potentially leave Hazel seriously hurt, over a drink. Afterwards someone else came over and asked for his ID which he then provided. Hazel could’ve just asked to see it initially, but was behaving very manic and uncontrolled. My second friend went to get his ID from his car after being asked to show it, after providing it, Hazel then asked to see his photos on his phone to prove it’s him. Which sounded unnecessary but he obliged. Following that he was asked his address and other information. The requests were never ending and Hazel clearly just wanted a reason him out, but she couldn’t find a valid reason. The gentleman with the glasses ended up shouting in my friends face, although I wasn’t close enough to hear what it was about. My friends and I were honestly just trying to watch the match peacefully, but constantly being harassed by staff. The day ended with the staff calling the police and wanted us all out because Hazel didn’t believe my friend’s ID was his for some reason. Even though they didn’t ID anyone else, there was about 10 of us. The police were really nice, they didn’t understand why we were being asked to leave neither, since it seemed insignificant. Yet, we listened to the police since and left (Missed 20mins of the match…). They said that the pub calls the police often, which says a lot about the business. Overall, it was a terrible experience and traumatic. I wouldn’t recommend this place, so many better pubs in the local area who don’t target individuals with polite staff who don’t show unhinged aggression. Save your money. Thanks for reading.

I love the vibe here . The food is good too.. the atmosphere is great and it’s a nice place to Enjoy the sunshine and it located in a convenient location. The steak and the Mac cheese bites starters really good and you can sit at the table and use the mypub app to order allowing you to sit back and relax. Presentation isn’t great but the food is really good.

Lovely evening - sat outside. Good range of drinks. Lots of space and air conditioned inside if it got too hot. Can't comment on later evening vibe on a Saturday as we left at 8. Wide age range

I had my birthday here over the weekend (Saturday) and was pleasantly surprised to find they have a DJ now. It was a great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and always smiling, my group of friends had a great time too and enjoyed the food and drinks which were all reasonably priced. Definitely coming back here again and I’ll be telling others too. Thank you for making it a great night to celebrate

An excellent pub at South Woodford. Easily accessible from the underground station. A great array of drinks and food choices. Ample seating inside and outside the pub. Live Sport is shown Different activities like Karaoke night on certain days of the week to entertain the crowd. Great customer service.

Went into the pub and was told we couldn’t even have a lemonade because “house rules say we need I.D to be in the pub after 5pm” what kind of nonesense is that??? Dogs can stay in there till 10pm but we had to leave cause we didn’t have I.D for a soft drink? Disgusting service, disgusting staff and disgusting pub!

Everything is nice about this place. Recommended without a doubt! The staff is very friendly and the food is lovely.

Went to the George pub Woodford with my best mate. It was a girls' night out without the kids. Had chips and bbq chicken, which was very tasty and filling. Also had a glass of lemonade and a rum and lemonade, which was refreshing. The staff were very friendly and easy to have a conversation with. Definitely worth 5☆

Came on Thursday with. Few mates for kareoke night Martin the Batman looked after us throughout the whole night great atmosphere great price just a good overall pub/bar 100% recommend and can’t thank Martin again for looking after us will be there again for next kareoke

Was out walking my dog and the sun came out and passed an old church and asked the priest how to get back to Wanstead area as I was a bit lost, he said head to the George and walk straight from the cinema direction. I did but thought I’d pop in here, they told me dogs were welcome out the front. I had a beer and Hazel from behind the bar brought me out a doggy treat, ronaldo was very happy with this, she also assured me that the priest was telling the truth and I go back home great. Great day out and lovely random interaction, might make it a once a week lost in translation sort of thing!

I love this pub. Can’t drink anywhere else! The staff are always so friendly to me and whoever I come in with, the service is always good even in busy times. Special shout out to Georgia, Josh and Jonny, always go the extra mile to keep people happy!

Nice pub with well priced drinks and multiple screens for sport. Large outdoor area though even though on the road due to proximity to traffic lights not too noisy. Food is standard pub grub.

Come to the George. It's great here. The bar staff are so friendly and there's different stuff going on every night. If you want food I recommend the burger but all the other food is also really tasty.

Always love coming to the George. Although it's not local, the karaoke nights are a great laugh to pop into. Staff are always avaliable and there's never much of a wait to get a drink. Lovely pub with a great garden (front and back) as well as good transport links too for the times when driving isn't a wise idea.

These guys are absolute legends, and great human beings. After I had a great roast and pints I unknowingly left my backpack with our passports back there. With our flight the following day and me freaking out they were kind enough to open the door for me at 1AM while interrupting their in-house celebration in order to look for it and return it to me! They really saved my arse! Thank you so much for being kind and understanding, and sorry if I scared you by knocking on the door late at night ahah In short: would most definitely recommend!

had a great afternoon watching the cricket world cup in the george with some family and friends. had a roast dinner, wings, burgers, and all came out great, tipped the chef Lorenzo cause i was so happy with the food. Sarah behind the bar was great and got me to sign up to an app which gave our group all a free drink and free £5 for referral to each other which we will use next time. 5* will be back

Had a fantastic evening with my partner, the food was spot on, drinks were flowing, was almost going to give up on south woodford untill dave smiled and engaged and made that one moment better and then continued to give service. I will be back, my new go to boozer😋

Martin was brilliant at taking care of me and my friends, he made the best cocktails, me and my friends had to order three rounds. The gents could do with a refurb.
