Went here for a weekday lunch. I ordered the beef Wellington which was really nice and cooked perfectly. It was £30 a portion so thought it would have been nice for it to include some crispy parmentier potatoes on the side too. The gravy was ok but expected something a bit nicer to complement such a great dish.

Our impromptu Sunday lunch group booking was very kindly accommodated. The food here is sensational, and if we could have ordered one of every dish on the menu, we would have! The choice of wines, beers and spirits is excellent too. Service is exceptionally good. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We highly recommend The White Bear.

Beautiful venue and friendly staff. The vegan burger was delicious, but a bit small. The vegan roulade was strange and slimy (seemed to have been defrosted), and also small. Would definitely love to visit the pub again, but avoid the roulade

Our first Christmas meal and not our last at the White Bear was fantastic!! The staff were attentive and gracious. The food and choice of drinks were excellent. For a family with a variety of food preferences this is the most logical choice for a Christmas meal. The vegetarians and vegans loved the options. Thank you for a wonderful experience and a stress free Christmas dinner.🥂

🚇 Kennington 🍺 £5.70 Pravha ❤️ An elegant Youngs pub in the heart of Kennington. . The White Bear is just a two minute walk from Kennington tube station and sits on busy Kennington Park Road. . This is one of the oldest pubs is South London and dates back to 1780. The pub was taken over by @youngspubs a few years back and refurbished in 2016. . This is elegant pub which is tastefully decorated. At the front is an island bar with comfy seating and intimate booths. At the back is a spacious dining area which leads to a good size beer garden. Upstairs is the @whitebeartheatre which has won numerous awards, check out their instagram for upcoming shows & productions. . The beer choice was pretty good, I ordered a Pravha which was great and under six quid. The food menu is full of British classics, fish & chips costs £18.50. The reviews are very positive for dining here, the Sunday roasts are especially popular. . There is a nice feel to the place and the atmosphere was pleasant on this Saturday afternoon. I had a little chat with the manager about Youngs beers, he was personable and a top fella. . @thewhitebearkennington is a classy traditional pub and very easy on the eye. The price point is premium but so is the offering. Kennington is a great place to go for a laidback pubcrawl, be sure to add the White Bear to your list. . ℹ️ Information correct on visiting 30/07/22

I visited The White Bear yesterday with my friend for her birthday. What a lovely place, very comfortable, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Great to visit a pub that is not a chain and has its own individual personality. The food was amazing, especially the sausage sandwich and macaroni cheese! The prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be back I hope locals support this business through these difficult times.

Lovely pub. Bar staff were super friendly and helpful, seems a bit dark when you first walk in but back area has 2 large rooms with skylights which are delightful. I would say it seems quite expensive compared to some other Youngs pubs I’ve been to, and I didn’t eat, but there weren’t loads of veggie options on the menu I noticed.

Visited on Xmas day 21 with my so who lives across the road from this delightful Pub / restaurant/ theatre. We secured great seats next to a raging wood fire, although not dining there they were providing Xmas meals and it was buzzing at 13.00. Thoroughly enjoyed our drinks in a splendid old world surrounding.

As a person who keeps their money un the community, spending here represents some of my most precious memories. Can't believe I've not reviewed this gem sooner. Maybe, selfishly wanting to keep it a secret l guess. Since moving further into Southwark, l visited just before the new year and everything, even the very helpful and friendly staff, clean surfaces are exactly as remembered.

We had the pleasure of an early dinner at the White Bear last night, and it was fantastic. The staff were super friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. The bar was spacious and airy, with a great selection of drinks, including a lovely pale ale from Two Tribes. Food was excellent - I had the confit duck cassoulet, which was delicious. My family had steaks and the steak and ale pie, declaring them to be the best pie and steaks they had *ever* had. The rump steaks were cooked as requested, and not fatty and chewy as they can be sometimes. Finished off with a well made oat milk latte (don't judge me, I can't drink milk!). 10 out of 10, I'd recommend the White Bear and would return more often if it wasn't on the other side of London from me. Thanks to all the team for a fantastic family meal, and Happy New Year to everyone at the White Bear!

Really excellent food, pie of the day not just chucked together with an odd bit of tough meat. Properly prepared filling, very proper pastry. Jerusalem artichoke tart starter really tasty as was apple and plum salad. All tinged with a bit of Xmas spice, appropriate for the season. Also...quite a different, safer, feel to the wider neighbourhood since I last was there in the 'teens as I walked to and from Vauxhall station.

We found out about The White Bear thanks to the recommendation of our AirBnB hosts, we were looking for a classic London pub full of hot food and cold beer, both expectations were more than met. The flavor of all the dishes was spectacular, the meat pie is a must try and the best representative of London food. Thank you for the excellent service and delicious food. Greetings from cancun

This was my first visit to this pub; I was going to see a friend perform in a play in the upstairs theatre. The pub looked very inviting from the outside and has a beautiful interior. Food and service was excellent. I would highly recommend.

I know the pub well and been there a few times. Food is always good there. Unfortunately I got disappointed this time. For the first time I made a booking for my Birthday Celebration. I made the booking over a month ahead and asked specifically for the little nook area behind the bar, which my booking was confirmed with. When I arrived this area was reserved for another and bigger party and we got put into the back area where there is more of a "restaurant vibe" louder, more lights. The guy working there even checked my booking and saw that I've reserved it first and a month ahead! Since they didn't have space anywhere else for the other group they couldn't change it. It's like money is clearly more important and since the other group is bigger they cared more about them. I was very disappointed because I specifically wanted my booking there to have it for drinks and more of a cozy atmosphere. I was surprised that they didn't even offer me a drink on the house or anything at all as an apology. Lesson learned, future party bookings will be made somewhere else.

We had dinner last night. The home made steak and ale pie was a triumph. Friendly service in a really attractive pub. We will definitely come back to try the Wellington.

Really nice gastro pub, great layout, plenty of seats. We were as part of a large birthday group which is a challenge for both the kitchen and waiting staff but they were amazing. The staff are fantastic, and the food is delicious. I had the crab salad followed by a mackerel main, both superb. I highly recommend it.

Friendly cosy pub. I understand there's more space at the back but have always stayed at the front. It can get fairly busy at times but staff are usually pretty quick serving. Worth popping in if you're in the area, it's within easy reach of the Tube.

Really great place to visit. Excellent well presented freshly cooked food. Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Plus there's a theatre upstairs for extra entertainment.

Visited this place 05/10/2021, the experience was very good, nice workers with excellent customer service. Had food in the restaurant ordered the White Bear Burger with additional onion rings served fries, the presentation and the taste of the food was excellent, would go back there again. Had a few drinks in the pub area, prices were reasonable. Would recommend going for night out and it's very local

A really nice pub with wonderful staff, surprisingly large space and a lovely garden out the back. There’s also a theatre upstairs! Always a good vibe here.

I love the vibe. I've had pre- and post-theatre drinks here. And, you can bring drinks to the show. All staff are super friendly. It makes you feel like one of the regulars with the local pub ambience. Further inside is a bright, big space for bigger groups and a cute beer garden at the back. I would like experience the food next time.

Great food! A really nice place to have lunch and only moment away from the tube. Thank you

Much bigger inside than expected. Had a vegetarian option roast dinner with a beetroot, freekeh, mushroom and spinach Wellington which I recommend and very much enjoyed. Be aware that dogs are welcomed in the restaurant.

Nice decor etc menu looks good, but I didn't have a meal. BUT, £5.55 for a pint in this part of London is ridiculous, no wonder it was empty. Can go a quarter of a mile in either direction and pay 90p less

  • 5/5 Reece H. 2 years ago on Google
I was told that their roast dinners are in the 'winning top 30 in London', I don't doubt this at all. The food was glorious and the location is perfect with so much outdoor space to enjoy in the sun with a cider in hand too. Often in London I find Sunday Roast portion sizes are small for the price tag. Although this roast dinner was a little more on the pricey side (£18.00) I think. You get an awful lot of quantity AND quality which makes it all worthwhile. You can tell they could with love and intention. Thanks for a great first meal here!

After theatre, enjoyed a lovely dinner and drink. I had the vegan barley risotto - delicious but so filling that I couldn’t quite finish it. Would definitely return to try other dishes! Loved the old living room feeling with the odd bits on display. The staff were really great, friendly. Shame about the weather. Hope to venture in the beautiful garden next time.

Great food but ripped off. I called this restaurant to enquire about a Christmas party. I was advised that I would owe 10£ deposit pp but that would be taken off the price of the set menu per person. On the day, due to covid 5/16 of our party cancelled. I called up before about 3 of the cancellations and was told they would lose their deposit but we wouldn't have to pay for the food. When we arrived and learnt there were two more cancellations, the lovely waitress informed us that they would be taken off the bill. When the bill arrived we were still charged for the last two cancellations. The manager then came to sort out the bill. He was very abrupt and spoke to us like we were stupid. He said we had to pay the deposit and for our meals to make up for the cancellations. I. E. It would cost 20£pp who cancelled and we each paid a total of £43 for our three course meal. Which was meant to cost £33 but £23 on the day as we had all paid £10 in advance. The manager was not willing to hear us out and unfortunately one of our party didn't like the confrontation and picked up the bill. He shouldn't have had to and this left a really bad taste in our mouth after what was a very enjoyable Christmas meal, as had been expected. I felt compelled to leave a review because the amount of money that was taken from us is outrageous. Unless any form of compensation can be offered, please avoid this place and the rude manager who will try to get far more money out of you than is deserved.

Bit of a faff having to order through an app, but really nice place. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Will definitely come back here.

Great spot for a pint and good food. Mix with the locals and friendly staff whilst enjoying gorgeous food and appreciating the cool decor of the old theatre and memorabilia they have on display.

I went to The White Bear with my girlfriend for a Sunday Roast, and we both enjoyed it very much. The food was really good, the roasted chicken in particular was delicious, very soft and melty, with a lot of flavour. They have a solid choice of cask beers, and some good kegs as well, plus wine and spirits. I had a very good Sauterne in the end. Additionally, the staff was great, kind and extremely friendly. Just one note, be careful with your orders, because the portions are huge! We'll definitely be back.

We went to The White Bear for our work Christmas Lunch and it was lovely (there was around 14 of us)! They provided us with a delicious three course meal, crackers and lots of nice drinks. The table was very comfortable, the food was hot and tasty and the portions were huge! They even gave me a doggy bag to take home when I couldn't finish all my meal. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and kind and booking the pub and organising the pre-orders for each person was easy and stress-free. I would definitely recommend The White Bear for a tasty Christmas lunch for colleagues and friends.
