Traditional English pub opposite Gloucester Road tube station. Inside and outside seating. Nice selection of beers. Gastro pub style menu. Reasonably priced fir such a high profile area. Staff were all pleasant and polite. Quite busy during my visit, so another bar person would have improved service times. Good choice menu. Nice atmosphere. Large TV screens showing sports. I had the fish & chips which I enjoyed. I will return soon.

Nice cosy pub, clean tables and quick service. Unfortunately that’s where the good part ends. My husband had the pulled turkey pie with mash and I ordered the Christmas burger and chips, but got the received the one. The food was “reheated” and not freshly cooked, definitely not hot. Especially the “mash”, as you can see in the photo. When I mentioned it to the waitress, who collected our plates, (unfinished, for my husband) she apologised and laughed. Definitely not the reaction I expected. We left, very disappointed. Unfortunately, won’t recommend it.

Incredibly rude and disgustingly unfair service - avoid at all costs. Came for the football and enjoyed most of the game sat with a couple of drinks. But then abruptly told with 10 minutes to go of the game that our table was reserved, despite there being no sign on the table. Pub was packed so we then had no seat or view of the screen. As the new occupants switched over, we asked if they'd booked: they clearly said no and seemed shocked they'd been provided a table given how busy it was. With a nail biting end to the game we stayed purely because we wanted to hear the outcome, despite the rude and frankly unbelievable behaviour of the staff member. A few minutes later, said staff member charged in an extremely aggressive manner over from the bar saying 'how dare you look at me' after absolutely no provocation. When we asked if the table had been booked his response was 'if I said it was booked then it was booked'. We then explained how the new occupants said they hadn't booked, and he angrily repeated his stance - which was now clearly a lie. He then got confrontational and aggressive, despite having kicked us off our table having lied about a fake reservation, presumably choosing us as young looking and easy to remove customers in favour of a group of men in suits. Have never experienced such appalling behaviour from a pub. For the pub management's reference it was a male member of staff, bearded and roughly 5'8. We will never be returning and actively encouraging local friends/family to avoid.

The classic pub is a quintessential neighborhood hangout with a laid-back vibe and a bustling crowd. The bartenders are knowledgeable and attentive, and the selection of beers and spirits is impressive. The menu offers classic pub fare, including juicy burgers and crispy fish and chips, which are cooked to perfection. The cozy interior is filled with wooden furnishings and dim lighting, making it the perfect place to unwind after a long day. Whether you're looking for a night out with friends or a casual date spot, this classic pub is a must-visit.

Found this pub around the corner from my hotel and noticed multiple other American tourists there as well. I got the fish and chips and have to agree with another review that said the meal was not spectacular but decent. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is laid back with reasonable prices. Very close to tube station as well.

We really enjoyed our time at The Stanhope Arms! Our food was so delicious and it's a got a great classic pub environment. Pick a table then order your food and drinks from the bar! The chicken and mushroom pie had a wonderful pastry and filling. The Mac & Cheese was to die for! It had so many good flavors. We will definitely be back!

Very nice pub! I’ve been there to grab a beer and some small plates! Everything was good! They got one of my orders wrong, but they were very nice changing it. I recommend it!

Called in for a quick pint with a colleague while down in London on business in January 2020. Seemed a nice pub, clean and tidy, and although it was a Friday early evening and starting to get busy we still managed to get a table. Service was okay, and the beer tasted good. Its proximity to the Gloucester Road tube station and local hotels was also ideal.

Ordered 2 Beef Sirloin and half chicken Sunday roast but was told only one available, so I took the Hunters chicken so my dad would get the roast. When food arrived it was only a beef roast we got. Spoke to the gentleman behind the bar and said, this isn’t what I ordered. His reply was “these things happen”. ** No apology or anything. ** Throughout the meal the bar staff stared at me and made it very uncomfortable whilst eating my meal. I asked the bar staff why was he staring at me while I was eating my meal and I was rudely told to eat my dinner. Absolutely disgusting behaviour by any bar staff. I think management need a good look at their staff or more training should be provided. *** I have now wrote an official complaint to the Green King head office regarding this issue. Intimidating a customer who questioned their meal is disgusting behaviour from any member of staff ***

Had a great Fish & Chips experience during our London visit. The food was delicious and huge portion. We had and paid our order at the bar-desk, and got the food with table service.

Got the fish and chips which was great and well priced given the location (South Kensington), the fish was well cooked and not dry but not soggy either with a nice light crunchy batter. Aspall's cider and a pint of Greene King Abbot Ale were perfect accompaniments. Food, service and atmosphere were really good, would highly recommend!

Given how crowded it was, I was expecting slow service or chilly food. Nope! Service was lightning fast, food was very good (I had fish and chips) and arrived hot. Nice busy pub atmosphere, close to the tube stop.

Standard English pub. The food isn’t spectacular but rather decent. I’d stick to British specialties. Their burger wasn’t great and a bit over cooked, for example, whereas the sausages with mashed potatoes were quite good. Service is ok and the prices are fair.

Ein Muss für ein London Besuch. Ungewöhnlich das man sein Essen selber bestellt an der Theke und Getränke auch. Ein Art Selbstbedienung. Hat uns gut gefallen, insbesondere das Ambiente.

This place fulfilled our desire to visit a typical English pub. The staff were amazing. Our food was top notch. My husband enjoyed his Fish and chips and I had steak and chips with grilled tomato and mushroom.

Nice local bar - typical pub really. The fish and chips portion is HUGE! You could definitely share it. Steak was not bad either. Overall a nice busy place and would return

Beautiful traditional British pub, great tasty food. Steak and Ale pie was exceptionally good, same as the fish and chips and flat iron steak. Cooked into perfection, we enjoyed our meals sooo much. Thank you.

Came here for Christmas lunch randomly. We stumbled upon it after realizing that we couldn’t cook Christmas breakfast at our hotel. The food was so good, the vibes were there, and we ended up having such a lovely lunch. We even decided to have dessert.

🚇 Gloucester Road 🍺 £6.45 Estrella ❤️ An enjoyable Greene King boozer. . The Stanhope Arms is located at the end of a Victorian terrace in plush South Kensington. Gloucester Road Tube station with its beautifully oxblood tiled exterior is just across the road. . This pub was built in 1869 and is named after local landowners The Stanhopes (The Earls of Harrington). There are streets, mews and gardens close by which all bear their name. . This is a traditionally decorated pub that is set out in an “L” shape. There is plenty of seating available which consists of low level tables and chairs, compacted together poser tables, plus one comfy banquette on the right hand side of the bar. This Greene King pub is bright and airy and has some Greene King uniformity around the walls. The star of the show is the stunning ornate back bar with its carved top and etched glass. . The beer selection was good, there were lots of familiar brands and one cask ale on at the time. I had a pint of Estrella, my pint was great and a little over average price. There is a traditional pub grub menu, Fish & Chips costs £15.29. . I arrived around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon and the pub was busy with a mix of older locals, day trippers and tourists from across the pond. There was a nice atmosphere here, even though it was busy everything was calm and relaxed. . There are lots of @greeneking_official pubs in and around Kensington, this is definitely my favourite. I really enjoyed the vibe here and the back bar is a work of art. I would recommend a visit here, I would say during the day during the week is the best time to visit. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 26.03.23

Such a friendly pub. Walked in here after being turned away from pizza express where we were told they were fully booked at 3pm - apparently all the empty tables were going to be filled very soon. Anyway, glad we got to visit this pub. Excellent staff. Reasonably priced drinks. Some drinks, some ice cream, lots of fun

Lovely little pub, staff warm and friendly, food piping hot and lovely. Tables far too close together to make sitting down or standing up easy. Several times our table was bumped with other people trying to sit/stand up at their table, hence 4 stars.

We've been pickpocketed in this pub, i called him out on it loudly and no one helped. CCTV didn't work and apparently this happened 5 days before too. I would avoid this pub.

This was recommended by staff at the nearby Bailey's Hotel as a good spot for lunch and they were right! It was packed, but our food order arrived in good time. They were really happy to help with a gluten allergy by talking us through the iPad and app which detailed the options. Ordering was a bit of a faff as I first had to download the app to my own phone, but the menu was clear, including the GF options (which isn't always the case!) We throughly enjoyed the GF chicken & bacon sandwich, along with nachos and the hunter's chicken sandwich. I tried a new beer, which wasn't the best, but that's not their fault. Overall this was a lovely spot for a bite of lunch and we'd happily return next time.

Fabulous local pub, the big fish and chips meal is a proper belt buster that defeated me but recommended.

Great little pub, nice staff, food is decent and a good range of beers, been here many many times, big screen and two smaller ones showing sport but also good friendly atmosphere and music when sports aren't on.

Really good Fish and chips. The batter was light and the fish exceptionally fresh. Well cooked chips.

Nice cafe-restaurant, spacious and cozy, with all kinds of people. Excellent for watching a football match, because there are several large high-quality screens. Prices for a pint are too high though, at £6.50.

Great food that straddles the boundary between traditional pub fare and stuff that's a little different. Satisfying portion sizes, nothing too big. Pints are a bit on the pricey side but can't do much about that being in central London! All in all great place for a lunch with some decent options even for vegetarians.

Classic pub, good vibes! The big fish and chips is massive! Ask it without bread, the bread is tasteless and soggy (maybe because I am french haha)

Limited seating but decent beer and edible pub grub. Some nice but limited outdoor seating too out the front where you can watch the world go by and a handy meeting point if you're meeting folks near Gloucester Road station

When we walked in here there were very few people but some were eating and it looked nice so we ordered drinks and food. While we were waiting for our food the place started filling up. Our food took ages. Some of the newcomers were served before us. When we asked we were told the kitchen was very busy. It took nearly 40 minutes for our food to arrive, just a fish finger sandwich and ham egg and chips. The egg was cold, the fish fingers were cold and the batter very greasy, oil oozed out of them. The bread was dry. We complained and did get our money back but as we were pushed for time we had to then head off to the show without having eaten anything. Would not recommend this place.

Right so… me and my mates went for a pint after work and my friend was rejected at the bar for her ID because it was a European National Identity Card. On the government website it says that these forms if ID are allowed to purchase alcohol and unfortunately the manager of this pub was very rude to my friend and rejected her without any good reason. The other staff were even apologising to us for their managers behaviour. I would highly recommend to stay well away from this pub even though everyone excluding the manager the staff are lovely. The manager has discriminated my friend for being Maltese and she has left nearly in tears because of this awful experience

Food was ok but entire experience was ruined by terrible customer experience. Served by a bearded, bald man who was very unfriendly when I requested a new pint of lager due to it being flat. After this staff proceeded to stare at me and friends from the bar leaving us unable to enjoy our food and drink and lead to us leaving our food and drinks unfinished as we felt so intimidated. Management need to take a look at the people they employ if they're serious about providing an excellent experience to their customers as this seems to be a consistent issue in their negative reviews. Will definitely not be returning.
