A lovely country pub. Good food but expensive. It has a lovely garden with some pods to sit in if it rains. It has a local theme. There is also a separate bar which is a good idea as it's away from the restaurant. It has an Irish theme as the person who runs the pub is a jovial Irishman.

We stayed overnight and had dinner then breakfast in the morning. Lovely little pub, friendly staff and delicious food. Our room was delightful, bed very comfortable, clean, light and spacious. Well stocked teac and coffee choices with fresh milk a nice touch.

Lovely service and very nice pub. My roast was nice but the parsnip was almost raw and the potatoes were too dry. The location is lovely and they are very dog friendly. There's wheelchair and pram access and a changing station for babies in the ladies room

Stayed here last summer. A beautiful place in a beautiful village. Food was great, the hosts were super friendly, the garden dining area was lovely. Hiking routes and lovely hills all around. Perfect place for a weekend getaway in the countryside! Looking forward to returning this summer.

After a week camping in the wild, we bumped into The Star&Garter. Their food menu is INCREDIBLE. We follow a plant based diet and their options are on another level. Every member of their staff was super friendly, welcoming and supportive, they even opened a room so we could keep our bikes safe and dry during the night. The room was cosy, stocked up and up to high standards. Super recommended!!

Lovely place with excellent food and dog friendly. Portions were just right and great service. They have their own beer which was great. We took the fish and the game of the day. Absolutely recommend it.

Rating for the Sunday roast based on value. The beef was good quality and the meal was generally tasty but I was still hungry. Very small Yorkshire and ONLY two roast potatoes which were not perfectly cooked. The one thing I expect from a roast is not to be hungry at the end, especially for £18.50! Will not return.

Loved this place. Very quiet and peaceful. Great food and excellent service. Breakfast to die for!! Room was cosy. Only three rooms in the pub so not a mad house! Idyllic location. Parking a bit random but not a problem. Highly recommended by me.

We’ve just finished a meal and had to leave a review after such an excellent evening. A really interesting menu with a great selection - each dish was prepared perfectly. The staff were friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. An added bonus is the lovely relaxing vibe and a very good Guinness!

Beautiful pub with friendly staff and delicious food. What more can you ask for?! Be sure to save room for the "knicker bonkers" dessert. It is, indeed, bonkers good! We didn't stay in the rooms but the whole place was well kept and charming, so I feel sure the rooms were as nice.

Lovely little pub. Very friendly staff, couldn't do enough for us. Even offered to drop us off at the nearby wedding venue. Good area to visit nearby Weald museum and Goodwood. Comfortable, clean rooms and nice bathroom. We will return

We’ve just had a fabulous evening. Greeted with a tasty on-the-house stater to try out (utterly delicious) followed by wonderfully imaginative main courses with beautiful presentation. Couldn’t resist pudding, homemade chocolate brownies and cheesecake, just perfect! We’ll be back soon with the rest of the family, thank you.

Visited today and was underwhelmed by our welcome and unimpressed to see the chef sitting in the bar doing his paperwork (unprofessional) and remained there all service. I ordered the fish and chips - not fresh fish but frozen battered fish - way too much batter. The mushy peas were glutinous and unpleasant. The chips were good. The shell-on prawns were thoughtfully served with a finger bowl which was needed as 90% of the prawns had roe attached. Fingers and prawns needed to be rinsed. Disappointed to see into the kitchen and watching staff scraping plates into the bin, positioned by the door. It was hot so the door needed to be open - move the bin out of sight of patrons. Service was good and the waiter pleasant and professional. We won't be back as there are many better places locally.

What an absolute gem of a pub! Wonderful food, impeccable service and so much appreciation from the staff for our visit. Was refreshing to be in receipt of a service where you were guided through the menu recommendations from starters to pudding, the complimentary homemade focaccia was a wonderful touch, and our meals were delicious. Chicken Milanese & the recommended Tubby Mac were our meals of choice, and would recommend in a heartbeat, generous portions and know to leave room next time for pudding! See you guys soon!

Had the best breakfast we’ve had in years at this fab pub this morning for a birthday treat. We had the Star full English each and a Bloody Mary each…. It was gorgeous. You can tell all the ingredients were local and really good quality. The girl that served us was very attentive and very friendly. Highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back. Thanks for looking after us. 👏❤️

Visited while on a walk and stopped for lunch and a few beers. Apart from the great food, the staff were so friendly and considerate. Can't wait to visit again!

A lovely lunch here for my dad's birthday. We were an awkward party with a Coeliac and a dementia sufferer. They were busy but made every effort to help. When a mistake was made they couldn't have done more to apologise or put it right. Real care was taken to look after the Coeliac and chef clearly understood about May Contain. Also a really good choice of non-alcoholic options for adults and a gluten-free beer. Thank you.

We enjoyed lunch at this lovely pub yesterday after a long hike with the dog. We had some amazing hearty traditional British food! I used the last of my chunky chips to clean up my plate!

We called in for a late breakfast a few days ago. Fantastic. With racing history from horses to cars on the wall a great experience ☺️. You get what you pay for! This gastropub is quality, well worth a visit for that special occasion! Enjoy ...

Lovely pub and rooms. Jim was a great host, offering advice about the local area and even offering to drop us off at our event nearby. The rooms are lovely with nice touches such as a good coffee machine, and the food in the restaurant is excellent, really fresh breakfast cooked to order.

Beautiful area of the world. Lovely beer garden. Stayed one night - perfect accommodation. Staff helped me out with my bad back. Wife so happy she demanded we rebooked for later in the year :-)

We stayed two nights at this great pub. The welcome from Jim was friendly and the room was comfortable and clean with views to the South Downs. There was a great coffee maker as well as a kettle and as a real treat fresh milk in a mini fridge instead of long life capsules. The pub served good beer and fantastic food. Service was great and the pub had a friendly atmosphere. We want to explore the area further so we will be back.

Visited for Sunday lunch 20 th March. Food was of good quality but when served was very cool. As everyone knows if food is re heated it hS to be thoroughly heated otherwise bacteria grows. I suffered an upset tummy which fortunately only lasted about 12 hours. The other .embers of party we

Excellent meal with the wife. The food was superb quality, super fresh and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back. A real hidden gem in the heart of the South Downs.

We had a great impromptu family lunch mid Christmas break. Helpful and friendly staff even during what was clearly a very busy lunch. Lovely menu, good kids and great adult choices. We had a tuna main and a hunters grill, both excellent with kids having a burger and a chicken goujons. Nothing left on any plate says it all.

Had a full english here and it was one of the best I've ever had. Scrambled eggs were beautifully moist and soft, meats nicely cooked and good beans. Owners were incredibly kind and we loved the Jubilee decorations, especially the colourful Elisabeths. As a cherry on the cake we walked one of the hiking routes set out by the pub, the South Downs Way, which was a pleasure, albeit also a small challenge with such full stomaches. All in all a full-hearted recommendation to go here.

booked table a week ago for sunday dinner. ordered the roast beef. veg was raw and not cooked. burnt yorkshire pudding and dry patatoes. then asked to leave within 15mins as they had a private party.... if we had known about the party we would have gone elsewhere as looking for nice evening beer and sun. it's a nice pub and i will have a drink there again but no way will I eat there food. £18.50 for something worse than a bad school dinner.

Came across the Star & Garter whilst on a walk to Chichester and very pleased that I did, as was needing to fuel up. Lovely location, warm welcome, great service and I can heartedly recommend it for its full English breakfast which really hit the spot, especially the sausages and the Oxford Sauce. Shame I was too early to sample the ales.
