Absolutely loved the place, I took my Sister for a Sunday roast when she was visiting me and this pub delivered in every way 😊 the place itself is really cozy, the staff is friendly and amazing, and the food was so delicious I cannot even describe 😊 special thanks to István in the kitchen, was really nice catching up with him 😊

Lovely ambiance and food was nice, the staff were also lovely and very helpful. They are dog friendly and are obeying all COVID restrictions. The only downsides were that the pasta and burger dishes could do with a little more salt and the portions were a bit on the big side. Otherwise a lovely pub and would recommend!

Amazing food and lovely staff. Visited for a Sunday Roast and it was exceptional, 2 vegan options and lots of meat choices too. Excellent choice of sides and delicious sticky toffee pudding. Really accommodating and dog friendly, staff came and gave us treats and water for our dog. Very friendly head chef came to say hello and check we were enjoying the food! Will be back soon, great atmosphere!

I had my leaving drinks from work here on a Friday evening and can't help but praise the pub! From everything from making the booking to the actual evening, they ensured things went smoothly. I wouldn't hesitate in coming back for a drink or booking a private event here again - they're just the best!

Great pub: Tucked away in Hove with a roomy feel about it even though it isn't too big. It has an outdoor patio . Appreciate how clean the bathroom is. Music on Fridays well worth going to see Staff are friendly . Food is good too.

Wow! Travelled from Eastbourne for our visit after reading some very positive reviews. We were not disappointed! Arrived late due to horrendous traffic but staff were OK about it. We had a selection from the tapas menu. Ordered 6 between us, bit of a mistake as portions were very generous. Each dish was fabulous. Highly recommend chicken skewers (wonderful taste), ham hock croquettes, pork bites and mackerel pate. The Better Half is a lovely, interesting, quirky pub with a great atmosphere. Staff really good. Also, dog friendly so we can bring with us next time. Want to try their Sunday lunch next. Well done The Better Half. Very, very impressed.

Really enjoyed this place, hid from the rain and had a late lunch. Only sadness is that the fish and chips comes with normal peas and not mushy peas :(

We had the Sunday roast. Between the four of us we had chicken, lamb and beef. They were up there in my top 3 roasts and we'll be back.

Delicious roast and decent portions, amazing atmosphere and quirky interior. Attentive staff but not overly so, all spot on . Wish we lived nearer as would be our local, love it.

Delicious, roast and all gluten-free, including the Yorkshire pudding, such a treat! Followed by apple and plum crumble – my only criticism, I’d have loved a little more ice cream with the crumble. Staff really nice also!

Truly excellent Sunday roast. Lovely and cosy on a cold wet December afternoon and we all loved the food - tasty well cooked and lots of different veg.

I’ve been coming here for years and and as always a welcoming venue and staff were very friendly. I was very surprised however at the basic food menu on a Saturday evening, I’d booked a table because my past experience here has always been very good, you go here for decent food and a great atmosphere. Sadly tonight the menu was basic, limited and bland, there were no starters and no specials. The pub wasn’t busy yet the food arrived almost an hour after we sat down and was in my opinion sub standard for the expectation of The Better Half. On this experience I would not recommend it or go again due to lack of choice, delay and quality of the food. I could as well have been in The Sussex across the road at 1/3 the price for the meal we experienced. Such a shame but I hope this was a blip or is the pub under new management?

My husband and I had Sunday lunch which was a delicious roast. My husband had sirloin beef & I had the lamb. The portions were generous, especially the meat portions. We also shared a side of cauliflower cheese which was the best I’ve ever had. The pub is lovely & cosy & the staff were welcoming & friendly throughout. We finished off the meal with apple & plum crumble & sticky toffee pudding. Both really yummy. The only criticism for me was that although delicious, the crumble was more of a sprinkle than a proper crumble topping.

A real gem of a place. Stumbled on this pub after a long journey to Brighton and we needed to decompress and eat. It was a Friday afternoon and to our delight, there was live jazz to accompany our meal. The beer battered fish and chips were perfect - flaky fish, crisp batter, nice and fresh and presented well. The fish of the day - bream - was beautifully cooked and a really big portion, too. We ended up staying much longer than we intended and enjoyed every minute of it. Food and wine prices were fairly standard for "nicer" Brighton eateries. Had a good chat with the owner, Simon, and was pleased to hear this is truly a family run, independent business. They should be proud of what they've created. It felt more like a local than a touristy spot but was beautifully decorated throughout and had a very genuine feel to it, which can't be bought, only cultivated. Would definitely return.

Excellent food, took the 3 kids, 2 little one's meals free in summer promotion. Chicken Katsu burger was delicious, recommend to anyone. Friendly welcome and atmosphere, all round great experience.

An enjoyable meal and had good service from the bar staff but was disappointed with the vegan sausage and new potatoes; cabbage was bland, potatoes a little dry.

I went for lunch today with two friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. The table was booked for 14:30 and we had to vacate after 2 hours The meals were lovely and we ordered 3 desserts with just over half an hour in hand. 2 of them came quite quickly but despite 3 reminders they failed to give the birthday girl her pud although they were still quick to remind us of the time and asked us to leave at 16:30 It was quite a sad end to what would otherwise have been a very happy time and the general feeling was that we would go to The Sussex in future

Sunday Roast was nice, took longer than expected to arrive. Some staff were very friendly , but some very much not… having your bill plate lobbed on the table doesn’t really work. Shame as took the edge off a nice afternoon meal. Service included here BTW and 2 hr slots strictly enforced with garden seemingly the only place to go should you want to extend your stay.

I booked a Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago, and we were delighted with the meal but also the service we received. When I wrote to the team to enquire about the booking, mentioning it was for a special occasion (we were married the day before) and that we would be coming with our close family, I was offered a bigger table with window seating - it was perfect. On the Sunday, the food was delicious (great vegan and vegetarian options too, the cauliflower cheese was also so yummy), the staff were friendly and attentive, and we left feeling very satisfied. Definitely will be back with our mates, and will be spreading the word.

Classy setting and I do like the booth touch. Very old school. Service was prompt and polite. Food was delicious. Not a lot to fault them on really. Plenty of choices nearby but I'd recommend this place. Must go back for a roast or to try the pie which looked great also! Vegetarian and vegan friendly.

We very rarely go out for a roast dinner as we have always been disappointed. On a recommendation we decided to try The Better Half Pub. Everything was delicious , beautifully cooked and so tasty. Staff very friendly and helpful As a keen cook myself you will not be disappointed. St

My favourite pub in Hove! Such a nice atmosphere, everyone is so friendly and the food is absolutely amazing! Istvan the chef is a genius! The Wellington roast is so tasty and the gravy is incredible, the sticky toffee pudding is the best dessert ever. Would recommend 100%
