The botanical garden in George was a big disappointment. I visited the botanical garden in Kirstenbosch so maybe I just expected too much. Ut for me it was nothing to see there. Not even a nice parc. The plants didnt look healthy and it was just a wired place. You didn't really know where to go and what to do. The signs wasn't really helpful. But I guess for locals that wanna hab a nice braai the place is alright .

The Park Run at the George Botanical Gardens makes for an Invigorating way to start your day! This Botanical Garden, one of the well-kept beauties in the Garden Route .The easy, 5km run or walk through the Botanical Garden and surrounding forest is suitable for the whole family, so bring the kids along!

The George Botanical Gardens is a popular place for picnics and is located near the center of George towards the mountains. There is an entrance fee for non-members of R20 and kids under 12 enter free. If you want to take a table in (picnics/events) there is an additional cost of R30 for the table. They also have a small venue next to Marshmallow Cafe that can be rented for R100 an hour and you can make use of the Cafe's menu or take your own snacks. Note though you will need to arrange ahead of time. The Gardens are smaller than most, but boast a wide variety of plants and nice walkig trails. Some are paved making it wheelchair accessible, but there are some that are not paved and isn't wheelchair accessible or friendly. There are public bathrooms within the Gardens. Lastly, this is also the startig point of the George Parkrun, a very popular event with locals.

Absolutely beautiful! Lots of vegetation and wildlife. You could take a walk in the mushroom meander and explore the gardens beauty.

Beautiful gardens nestled near the foot of the Oteniqua mountains. The Gardens are well geared towards education. Loved the Mushroom Meander and cant wait to go explore the Medicinal Mound on our next trip.

We stopped here for a walk around the gardens on our drive along the garden route N2. It's worth the stop with great views across to the mountains and the actual gardens are well laid out. A cafe is also there serving a full lunch etc menu.

Our visit was a disappointing experience. Whilst 15 Rand is inexpensive for admission I did expect more. The signposting within the gardens is terrible and I couldn't find any overall map of where to walk so we spent most of the visit wandering rather aimlessly around. The employees we saw looked disinterested and the young man who took our our admission money was unfriendly and unhelpful. There was an abundance of weeds among most of the display plants and a large building claiming to be a conference center which was deserted. We were staying in George so it wasn't too much of a wasted journey but I wouldn't recommend adding this to your itinerary if you doing the garden route.

This is an easy place to find and park at, however, the signs within the establishment were difficult to follow and sparse.

Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Loved how the gardens were looked after. The smell of fresh grass was just the best smell.

We were a little let down with the state of the garden, at the time of our visit (June) it looked very much a work in progress as supposed to a fully mature garden. What redeamed it for us however was the mushroom meander, down by a stream underneath the trees. Also, the bird hide was quite novel especially since I'm not a very patient person. Sofie that alone I was happy to spend the R15 entrance fee.

What a gem! Nature at its best! Beautiful and peaceful surroundings. A place where you can relax, reflect and enjoy being swallowed up by nature. Try it and share in the enjoyment.

The Garden Route Botanical Garden is an indigenous garden at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountain in George. There are several routes one can take from a short 5-minute walk to a 5 kilometre Park Run and many more. The garden is beautiful and one can see that work is being done on the garden. A lovely outing and great place to take kids for a walk.

I lived in George for many years. I used to love hanging with my friends here. It was always beautiful, and the chap who previously ran the place, Dane, did an excellent job at keeping the place running. I was recently back in George for a holiday. Firstly, to my shock, they are charging people to go in. Now, this could be understandable, if the money was actually used to keep up the gardens, which, clearly it isn't. Dead brush everywhere, wildlife is almost totally gone. It looks messy and untidy. Almost like it's not actually being cared for. Not to mention, if you want to charge entry to a place, atleast have card facilities available (people generally don't carry cash nowadays) instead, I had to walk around, while my lunch got cold, trying to locate some lady, who looked like she was on a permanent lunch break, to pay on a card machine in an office hidden in some backwards building. Once that was finally done, my lunch was cold, milkshake melted and I just didn't have a good time. Whoever is running the place now, either do a better job, or allow someone who can to do it, because I will not be returning to the gardens anytime soon, because of you.

What a disappointment! The garden is currently far from its former glory - overgrown shrubs, very dry (probably due to water restrictions) and full-grown Scotch Thistles (Onopordum acanthium) a declared weed in SA, near the ‘trees of peace’. So sad to see the garden so mismanaged

The Gardens are lovely to explore. There is a small restaurant with delicious open sandwiches, coffee and juices or you can take your own picnic. There is also a fabulous nursery of indigenous plants at very reasonable prices.

Lack of electronic paying facilities. We had to leave and could not enjoy the "night walk" because we had no cash.

👍👍 Gericke's Point is a natural rocky outcrop at the end of Swartvlei Beach, located in Sedgefield along South Africa's Garden Route, rivalling similar natural points I've visited in Mozambique like Ponta do Ouro and Tofo.
