This is a beautifully maintained trail in Wilderness. We paid R50 at the gate. The trails are lovely, clean, and no rubbish to be seen. The walk to the waterfall is not strenuous, but requires to climb over a couple of dead trees that fell across the paths. I'd imagine those obstacles won't always be there. Overall, but was a very pleasant experience. We felt safe at all times.

A beautiful hike, sages in parts and well maintained. Permits are purchased at the entrance via Visa/Mastercard and Cash. There is a pulley system to cross the river at one part, so some strength is required. Walk ways are panelled and fairly easy to navigate the trees have been allowed to grow naturally so roots become stairs and in some parts one must limbo under and around the trees. The waterfall is small but there are various pools and rocks which allow for a great afternoon. Take water and snacks and allow for 2-3hours for a full experience.

We spent a lovely morning hiking the Half Collared Kingfisher Trail in the Garden Route National Park. Upon arrival at the gate, you have to fill in the relevant paperwork before heading to the trail itself. Once you’ve paid your permit fees for day visitors, you head into the trail. It’s a little uneventful for the first 15 minutes but soon picks up pace when you have to pull yourself over the river on a raft (there is another alternative route available too). This was great fun but was quite difficult if there were more than a few of you on the barge. Once you’re across the river, the walk truly becomes magical, as you wind your way through the forest along the elevated boardwalks. You catch a glimpse of various colourful birds as you go, and considering the walk is fairly isolated, it is very well looked after and maintained. After around 90 minutes of walking, you arrive at the stunning waterfall, which is a lovely spot for a break or lunch. I would highly recommend making the effort to explore and hike the Half Collared Kingfisher Trail – it’s 100% worth it!

We hired a canoe at Eden Adventures, did the 40min canoeing and later the 40min hike/walk to the waterfall. It's very beautiful and easy going, you could also jogg if you'd want to. Bring along a swimsuit if you want to treat yourself with dipping in the ice cold waterfall pool. But you should be early in order to still have some sunshine over there.

This hike is suitable for people of all ages. There are proper wooden decks to walk on along the trail. The scenery and birds in the area are spectacular. There's also a pontoon rope system for a water crossing, which was a fantastic experience! The beautiful waterfall at the end of the hike was well worth it. After the hike, it's also wonderful to cool off, so bring your swimsuit!

A much longer walk than expected, and I almost lost my phone on the steep rocks at the waterfall, but overall it was a fun walk. Well-constructed path, interesting scenery. You will need a bit of strength (and will get your hands wet) operating the pontoon across the river. My hubby and step-dad took the Bosduif (steep route to the top of the hill) on the way back and reported that it was indeed rather strenuous.

Beautiful and invigorating hike. The waterfall at the end is a wonderful reward. Take caution on the rocks though, they can be slippery.

Great hike for all ages, the walk ways are well made and help the trail be a lot easier to the old and young ones. The tree and bird life around you as you got through the mostly covered trail is amazing. There is also a water crossing with a pontoon rope system which is also really cool, so glad they didn’t do a bridge. The water fall area is nice and the water itself is cold after your long walk which is perfect. The top waterfall is the better of the two but only the fit and able will be able to summit the higher one. The hike/walk is mostly undercover from the trees.

Magnificent trail to a beautiful waterfall. Not too challenging though it is a moderate distance. The trail is beautifully maintained and most of the trail is under forest canopy. A pull-it-yourself barge across a small river adds to the adventure

This is a beautiful trail. Start early so you have enough time to swim at the beautiful waterfall. Take enough water and something to eat, the trail to the waterfall is steep and takes longer than you would think, but the trail has stairs and is well-kept. Please keep your eyes open for snakes, we found a small green Western Natal snake on the way back.

The trail was amazing! An experience I'd definitely do again soon... we walked up the river, then crossed the river on the 'pond' which was such a cool experience and then walked up the other side of the river until we reached the waterfall. It was gorgeous. The path was fairly clean with not much trash lying around. Everything was so green after the rain. Unfortunately the pathway was really slippery after the previous day's rain and I fell twice. We could walk as quickly as we wanted to because we had to hold on as we walked. There is grid wire on the pathway is placed and that really helps. There is a bathroom at the entrance but it wasn't very clean. Fees are decent. The route felt very safe. We were a group of 4 ladies and on our way to the waterfall there wasn't much traffic. On the way back though we walked past quite a few other groups. Everyone was really friendly.

Versatile but so so beautiful, distance was a bit off. Our watches clocked 6km to the waterfall and another 5.5km back with the route we took.

Wonderful well maintained trail. 3.5km one way to waterfall on mostly flat boardwalk. Stunning views of the valley, labelled trees, even a pontoon crossing. This location is the only trailhead despite other locations marked in Maps. Plan for 3 hour return.

Really nice trail, you don't have to go through the water like I did, thats the more the advanced kind of trail. The regular trail is Great fun. It's not too hectic, it's a simple calm hike with great views at the end

(Translated by Google) The normal hike is more of a difficulty on a long walk on well laid out trails. Those who are sporty and prefer to hike choose the Bosduif route. The steep and demanding trail has beautiful views of the river valley.

Easy hike. The trail goes all the way to an incredible waterfall where you can swim as well. The hike also includes a river pontoon, which I enjoyed very much. Definitely worth it.

One of my favourite day hiking trails and I definitely recommend it for tourists! Absolutely beautiful area and easy hike of about 6km all in all. Remember your swimsuit in summer as the waterfall at the end is a lovely spot to cool down. Great picnic spots as well! An adventure every time. I've hiked this trail approximately 20+ times, but it never gets old.

  • 5/5 Madré R. 2 years ago on Google
Suitable for all up until the river crossing (about 2km in) where the hike gets slightly ‘steep’. Bos bokkies, knysna loerie, hadida and much more fauna and flora to see. Top tip: Take with peaceful sleep, eco friendly sunblock, snacks and if swimming - a towel.

Most beautiful scenery of lush nature & forest. Walk was tough at some points but the views make up for it. Waterfall was soo beautiful. Definitely a must.

11 November 2022 The Activity: Hiked the Half-collared Kingfisher trail. There is lichen, moss, ferns, majestic trees, plectranthus and asparagus plants everywhere. The trail has a prehistoric vibe to it and is lush and beautiful. Viewpoints at the highest parts of the trail are a bit sparse. This is a popular trail. You can expect to cross paths with plenty of foreigners/tourists. The waterfall area at the end of the trail is gorgeous. There are a few options to cross the Touw River, including stepping stones and a pontoon. The pontoon, decked pathway, lushness and little bit of climbing made for an adventure filled hike, which was tons of fun. We wanted to take the Beidel Path to Hoekwil but the path was too overgrown and treacherous

We really enjoyed this walk. Varied terrain so good footwear required. 2 hours to reach the waterfall and 2 back with the occasional stop at the top of stairs to catch our breath! Loved the pontoon to cross the river.

Wonderful walk through forest with a pontoon crossing over the river, rock pools at the end. Nice easy hike of 3.8km one way. Definitely a place to stop and enjoy. The walk is well maintained with boardwalk.

  • 5/5 Justine D. 4 years ago on Google
Very well maintained walking route - one of the best! Beautiful views, nature paradise, gooseberries growing wild, lovely places to swim in summer, good for kids, really cool pontoon crossing. Groups with elderly or small kids don't have to walk the whole route. Cons: Signage could really do with some maps and distances, there are no bins, and the boulders at the waterfall need a rope to aid climbing up. Don't try to climb up the boulders with small kids - you need your hands as it's quite slippery.

It takes just over two hours. The permit is easily obtainable at the SanParks office in Wilderness (Ebb & Flow). I'm coming back to do this hike each year till I cannot walk anymore. If you can walk easily, do it. If you have 3 hours to spare and can row, do the canoes & walk the rest. There's a lovely double waterfall at the end. Enjoy!

  • 5/5 Neil B. 3 years ago on Google
Absolutely beautiful walk to the waterfall and back. Very well maintained. Saw an amazing array of creatures (including Natal Green Snakes and Knysna Loeries). The waterfall and pools are stunning and I'd love to come back when lockdown is lifted.

Fairly level fairly easy hike, can be done with kids . The pool at the waterfall is great for a swim but the water is deep so children should have a flotation device.

What a wonderful trail to walk! We made use of the pontoon on the upward walk and the stepping stones across the river on the way back. We had a nice swim at the waterfall and pools at the top of the track as well as a picnic.

Great trail. The two options to cross the river (via stepping stones or with that float-thing) are the rewards for it. The waterfall in the end is not that impressive.
